Great News! The Grand Prix Series is back in 2021!

The South African government and Athletics South Africa approached SPAR to continue with the series this year in order to assist the top runners to compete and earn prize money as they have not been competing and earning an income over the last year due to COVID-19.

While the SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge is to take place in September 2021, it will not form part of the Grand Prix Series this year. SPAR is excited to introduce 6 standalone races to give our top runners a chance to shine. Each of these 6 standalone SPAR Grand Prix races will give runners a chance to win some amazing cash prizes. We are sad to say that there won’t be any spectators allowed at the races this year, but we are ever hopeful we will be able to run the races as part of South Africa’s most beautiful road race again next year. > 40-49 years

> 50-59 years

> 60-69 years

> 70+ years

Durban: 27 June 2021 Tshwane: 7 August 2021 Pietermaritzburg: 22 August 2021 Cape Town: 4 September 2021 SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge: 4 September 2021 Johannesburg: 3 October 2021 Gqeberha (PE): 9 October 2021

Prize money for each race will be R100 000.00 with a Grand Prix year end purse of R545 000.00 with the winner taking away R185 000.00, runner up R75 000.00 and 3rd place R45 000.00. All the other category winners will take home R5 500.00.
