H

omment expliquer, définir Les Folie Douce, à quelqu’un qui ne connaîtrait pas ? Pas facile en réalité tant le concept de ces OVNI de le restauration posés à 2400 mètres d’altitude -sans doute le plus haut d’Europe d’ailleurs- est unique en son genre. On croise bien ce type de spot sur les plages hype de la planète, mais en montagne toujours rien de comparable. Souvent copié, jamais égalé comme dirait l’autre !

Pour mieux saisir l’originalité de l’endroit, on pourrait mettre en avant l’aspect musique, la qualité du son, l’esprit festif ou encore la superbe déco intérieure, mais cela ne saurait suffire. Non, pour vraiment (re)sentir le lieu, mieux vaut faire appel aux sensations, à l’émotion même tant un passage sur la terrasse posée là au milieu des sommets peut être comparable à une bonne toile au cinéma, une représentation théatrale ou un concert privé. La Folie Douce c’est ça, une mine d’émotions autour d’un verre, deux peut-être, pas plus, d’abord à table puis sur les tables au rythme des sets mémorables produits par La Folie Douce Team. Une sorte de réserve du bonheur d’où parfois certains repartent la larme à l’oeil. Comme après une dernière séance...

Des sensations bonnes à partager, de bonnes vibrations qui après Val d’Isère, Val Thorens, Méribel, St Gervais, l’Alpe d’Huez, vont se propager jusqu’à Avoriaz et Chamonix, où l’on retrouvera respectivement une nouvelle Folie Douce et le tout premier Folie Douce Hotels, lequel promet de détonner dans l’hôtellerie de montagne au moins autant que les restaurants Folie Douce ont pu étonner à leur création.

ow could you describe the Folie Douce establishments to someone who doesn’t know about them? It would be no easy task, given that this concept of unusual restaurants, perched 2,500 metres above sea level – without a doubt the highest in Europe – is one of a kind.

You often come across this kind of place on the planet’s trendy beaches, but in the mountains, nothing else comes close. Often copied, never equalled, you could say! To better get across just how original the Folie Douce are, you could point out the music, the sound quality, the festive atmosphere or the wonderful interior design, but that wouldn’t suffice. No, to truly experience one of these places, it’s better to call on the senses and emotions with a visit to a restaurant terrace, rubbing shoulders with the mountain peaks and comparable to a film set, a theatre performance or a private concert. The Folie Douce evoke a raft of emotions while you enjoy a drink or two, first at a table, then on the tables to the rhythm of memorable sets by the Folie Douce Team. A kind of reserve of happiness from which some people leave misty eyed.

Just like after a final session…Good sensations and good vibrations which, following in the footsteps of Val d’Isère, Val Thorens, Méribel, St Gervais and Alpe d’Huez, are about to spread as far as Avoriaz and Chamonix, which will soon be home respectively to a new Folie Douce and the very first Folie Douce Hotel, which promises to be a gamechanger as far as mountain hotels go, at least as much as the Folie Douce restaurants caused surprise when they were launched.

QC TERME BIEN-ÊTRE À L’ITALIENNE FACE AU MONT BLANC

L

e premier centre de bien-être à l’italienne « QC Terme » construit en France a ouvert cet été à Chamonix, près du centre sportif. Un lieu élégant où le meilleur moment consiste à s’allonger sur des lits immergés dans une eau chaude, face au massif du Mont-Blanc. L’après-ski, version dolce vita, devient l’heure de « l’aperiterme » où l’on se retrouve en peignoir pour célébrer la fin d’une belle journée sur la neige.

La bonne nouvelle : le centre reste ouvert toute l’année. Prix d’entrée : 44€.

T

he first QC Terme Italian-style well-being centre built in France opened for business this summer in Chamonix, close to the sports facility. In this elegant location, why not kick back and relax on a bed submerged in warm water, overlooking the MontBlanc range. Italian-style après-ski becomes an “aperitivo” spa time, where people get together in their dressing gowns to celebrate the end of another wonderful day on the slopes. Good news: the centre remains open year-round. / Entry fee: 44€.

Sur l’établissement de Méribel, il laisse la place à un chef bien connu de notre région, Lionel Horlandynio qui sera en poste sur 2 établissements d’altitude, La Folie Douce MéribelCourchevel et le Chalet de Pierres Courchevel. L’an dernier les pirates de toute la région se sont retrouvés sur la terrasse de Folie Douce.

Une journée à part, qui nous emporte grâce aux décors, aux costumes et aux animations proposées pour l’occasion.

Il est d’ailleurs important de souligner le travail fourni par les équipes en amont afin de construire les décors ; l’implication de nos partenaires et évidemment la bonne humeur de nos clients qui font de cette journée, une parenthèse festive, fraiche, légère… et souvent très émouvante.

C’est la journée où l’on se dit au revoir, et quelques larmes coulent sur les joues maquillées de nos équipes et nos chers clients.

very year, the end of the winter season is based around a well-prepared and fanciful theme. Each year it draws in several thousand people, in an electric and unconventional ambiance. Last year, pirates from all over the region joined together on the terrace of the Folie Douce. We love this unique day for the decorations, costumes and entertainment organised for the occasion. It’s also important to highlight all the work put in by our teams prior to the event to build the decors; the involvement of our partners and, of course, the good humour of our customers, who make the day a festive, fresh and light-hearted event… and often one which is very touching.

It’s the day we say goodbye to one another and there are always a few misty eyes among our team members and our dear customers.

UN FESTIVAL À CÔTÉ DE CHEZ NOUS

A FESTIVAL CLOSE TO HOME

L

e concept du Hôt’Peuf Festival est de reprendre les codes d’un grand weekend de ski entre potes autour d’une programmation musicale pointue et dans un esprit festivalier.

La première édition a eu lieu en fin d’hiver dernier à Courchevel. Ce fut une évidence pour La Folie Douce Méribel-Courchevel de prendre part à ce tout nouveau festival à la montagne. Une fine équipe de DJorganisateurs, qui ont pour mot d’ordre la musique, le ski et la convivialité pour un week-end d’hiver.

L’idée est donc de proposer aux festivaliers une offre « Clé en main » incluant l’hébergement, le ski et la musique au sein d’une même unité de lieu.

he theme of the Hôt’Peuf Festival is a great weekend of skiing among friends and cutting-edge music with a festival feel. The first edition took place at the end of last winter in Courchevel. La Folie Douce Méribel - Courchevel felt it could not miss out in participating in this brand-new mountain festival.

The watchwords of the fine team of DJ-organisers are music, skiing and winter weekend fun. The idea is to offer festival-goers a “key in hand” deal including accommodation, skiing and music, all in the same place. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this up-and-coming festival.

T

he resorts of Courchevel and Méribel will jointly organise the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships. The joint bid by Courchevel-Méribel was chosen over that of the Austrian resort, Saalbach by the International Federation. It will be the 4th time in its history that France will host the event, after the editions in 1937 and 1932 in Chamonix, and more recently in 2009 in Val d’Isère. “Hosting the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships is an opportunity to bring together the entire nation around skiing and to offer a unique event to the public, which is likely to generate keen interest in skiing, with knock-on effects in particular for the younger generations and to help promote the French mountains and resorts”, declared the FFS in a press release.

epuis 4 saisons maintenant, La Folie Douce Méribel-Courchevel est gérée par un trio de choc, Marine Joubert, Mathieu Zucchiatti et Julien Joubert.

Cette année, ils se lancent dans une nouvelle aventure en reprenant la direction du célèbre Chalet de Pierres à Courchevel.

C’est Marine qui sera aux commandes de cet établissement mythique. Après avoir commencé à la caisse du self « La Petite Cuisine », Marine est passée à l’accueil de la Fruitière, puis est devenue manager du restaurant pour enfin finir sa carrière « Folie Douce » au poste de responsable des Ressources Humaines.

Avec ce bagage bien rempli, il est tout à fait légitime pour Marine de se lancer dans la direction du fameux restaurant.

Elle va lui apporter une touche de jeunesse et de modernité, en vous présentant quelques nouveautés comme un bar spécialisé, une carte rafraîchie et ce qu’elle souhaite d’ores et déjà mettre en place, sera l’organisation de soirées Folie Douce une semaine sur deux au Chalet de Pierres.

Un moment d’extravagance que viendra apporter l’équipe artistique de La Folie Douce en proposant de pimenter votre diner d’une bonne dose de fraîcheur et d’excentricité.

Une soirée par semaine en alternance au Chalet de Pierres (Courchevel) et au 80 (restaurant de l’hôtel La Chaudanne Méribel).

or 4 seasons now, the Folie Douce Méribel-Courchevel has been managed by a winning trio, Marine Joubert, Mathieu Zucchiatti and Julien Joubert. This year, they are setting themselves a new challenge by taking over management of the famous Chalet de Pierres in Courchevel. Marine will be at the helm of the mythical establishment.

After starting as a till operator at La Petite Cuisine cafeteria, Marine worked on reception at the Fruitière, before becoming restaurant manager and ending her Folie Douce career as Human Resource Manager. With this experience under her belt, it was only right that Marine should manage this famous restaurant. She will bring with her a touch of youth and modernity, introducing a few new features, such as a specialised bar, a revamped menu and the organisation of twice-monthly Folie Douce evenings at the Chalet de Pierres. An extravagant moment by the Folie Douce artistic team, which is certain to spice up your dinner and offer a touch of unconventional freshness.

One evening per week, alternating at the Chalet de Pierres (Courchevel) and at the 80 (La Chaudanne Méribel restaurant.

La Brasserie du Mont Blanc a vu juste en revisitant la catégorie des IPA (Indian Pale Ale) avec une soft IPA, légère (4,7% vol.), rafraîchissante, équilibrée, finement houblonnée à l’amertume modérée. Cette nouvelle création vient de remporter une médaille d’or au célèbre concours international World Beer Award départageant 2000 bières provenant de 46 pays. Que certains se rassurent, à partir de 20 heures, l’hôtel redevient calme, destiné à accueillir une clientèle de tous âges, pourvu qu’elle soit ouverte d’esprit et disposée à profiter pleinement de la bonne énergie dispensée en ces lieux. Sans dire que cet hôtel XXL compte 250 chambres dont des Premium, Access et des « Friends » qui peuvent accueillir à petits prix 4 à 6 personnes. Côté déco, Luc Reversade a sollicité les frères Pissenem pour qui les codes de la fête et de la nuit n’ont plus de secrets, ayant

I wanted to recreate the roaring twenties, when people danced in 5-star hotels”. A fascinating and inspirational era for this epicurean entrepreneur, who has always loved to dance.

A TRENDY FIVE-STAR After creating restaurants as festive as they are delicious, with chefs boasting

one or two “macaroons”, Luc Reversade decided to create this trendy five-star.

Just to set things straight, after 8 p.m. the hotel restores decorum, to suit guests of all ages, provided they are open-minded and ready to take full advantage of the positive energy on tap in these premises. This XXL hotel features 250 rooms, including Premium, Access and “Friends” rooms, offering cost-effective accommodation for 4 to 6 guests. When it came to decoration, Luc Reversade called upon the Pissenem brothers for whom the codes of partying and night time hold no secrets, after having

created several mythical establishments in Ibiza. The result is an atmosphere with elegant, chic and timeless decoration, ready to glow. And for a well-deserved rest, head to one of three eateries with solid reputations and fabulous atmospheres, or to the peace and tranquillity of the spa for a massage. Without forgetting the outside heated pool. “I really want the mountains to wake up in France”, declares Luc Reversade.

otally overhauled under the aegis of the Compagnie des Alpes and designed by Poma, after eight months of renovation works, from 20 December the new Daille ski lift will be ready to transport gourmets and skiers alike in its 10-place, comfortable cable cars.

The fifty new black cable cars will feature sliding doors, wi-fi and heated seats, with a slim design by Pininfarina, transporting 2,800 people per hour, compared with 933 previously. And to top it all off, Luc Reversade, at the helm

of the Folie Douce establishments, has entirely redesigned the cable car station, to compete with the best innovations Europe has to offer. For example, the opening of the “Trois Caves”, which was designed in line with best practices with large brick arches, dedicated to the tasting of fine wines, cigars and cheeses.

One of a kind in Europe, the 200 m2 cheese cellar is overseen by master cheesemakers. Tastings are on an allyou-can-eat basis…

Last but not least, new and high-end services including a creche, a coworking space and an area for ski schools will open as of 2020, a date on which the multi-purpose cultural centre will also be launched. There will also be a huge winebar-cum-art gallery, located in a glass building and oozing positive energy.

Without forgetting the Night Experience programming; an exceptional nocturnal event taking place as part of a dinner show. So, hop on board for 4 minutes to reach the snowy heights of the Folie Douce, to take full advantage of this festive, indulgent and cultural location.

BMW continue d’exploiter le filon des SUV sportifs avec cette seconde génération de X4 logiquement dérivée du nouveau X3.

La partie arrière du « coupé » est celle qui a reçu le plus de changements avec des feux plus fins et plus étirés. Il gagne en élégance et en légèreté. La partie avant est plus cossue avec une calandre proéminente comme sur le nouveau X3.

Le nouveau X4 offre comme le X3 davantage d’espace à ses passagers, plus grand et plus large, il a gagné en effet, 8,1 cm. Sa banquette rabattable en trois parties et son coffre de 525 litres font de lui, un modèle plus dynamique tout en étant plus fonctionnel.

« Je suis agréablement surpris de constater la faible consommation de ces SUV : environ 7l/100 km pour les versions Diesel 20d et 30d. Le nouveau modèle X4 dispose de réglages de châssis spécifiques pour favoriser l’agilité et son centre de gravité est plus bas que celui du X3. Précis et incisif avec une direction réactive provoquant une grande vivacité.

Under the bonnet, the range of engines for the X3 and X4 is identical, with petrol and diesel versions ranging from 150 to 360 horsepower. Just like the X3, the new X4 offers greater space for passengers, it is taller and wider by 8.1 cm. Its foldable three-split rear seat and 525-litre boot make it more dynamic, while improving functionality. Both vehicles feature the high-end finish you’d expect from BMW, with top quality materials.

BMW are continuing to tap into the SUV market with this second generation X4 – a natural follow-on from the new X3. The rear of the “coupé” has received the most changes, with thinner and longer lights. It is lighter and more elegant. The front is more opulent looking, with a prominent radiator like on the new X3.

Respecter la cuisine des lieux où l’on se trouve est essentiel et dans chacun de mes plats, j’essaie de mettre des ingrédients, une herbe, un mode de cuisson en résonance avec les lieux, explique Franck Mischler. J’aime raconter une histoire dans mes plats, et dans la façon de les cuisiner. D’autant que quand on s’intéresse à l’histoire de la cuisine, tout devient logique. » Aussi, pour élaborer sa carte qui couvre la saison de décembre à mai, avec des plats aussi bien en sauce, pour les mois les plus froids (comme la fameuse noix de joue de bœuf en cocotte et carottes fondantes), que des plats plus légers histoire d’apprécier pleinement les beaux jours, il sélectionne des ingrédients locaux repérés chez des artisans et producteurs de choix de la région. À commencer par le lait, la crème et les fromages, comme le reblochon, pour ses fameuses sucettes de reblochon (pané) et lard fermier, le beaufort affiné de 4 mois, dont il raffole, ou encore le Bleu de Termignon

qu’il marie à une truite légèrement fumée avec raviole de Royans. On est quand même dans les Alpes ! Côté poisson, la truite de montagne est donc venue remplacer le saumon avec l’omble chevalier. Quant aux charcuteries, elles sont aussi artisanales, comme les diots et le jambon de Savoie. « J’essaie de travailler un maximum les circuits courts, poursuit-il, même si c’est moins évident que pour un gastro où la clientèle vient avant tout pour le chef, qui fait ce qu’il veut. » Défi rehaussé par la situation géographique, les restaurants étant perchés à quelque 2000 mètres d’altitude, ce qui implique un approvisionnement orchestré au millimètre. Sans parler du nombre de couverts, à savoir 700 pour la Fruitière, et entre 800 et 1000 pour la Petite Cuisine, le « self » qui jouxte le restaurant, soit 1500 couverts jour environ rien que pour Val d’Isère.

Car le chef « corporatif exécutif » partage son quotidien entre les tables de Val d’Isère et de Chamonix.

Bref, une gageure. Pourtant, cette démarche locavore, Franck l’a initiée il y a quelques années déjà, s’y attelant le plus possible, même s’il doit s’approvisionner en grande partie sur Paris. Aussi, il cuisine exclusivement du frais et le plus possible de saison.

Point de surgelé mais de la première fraîcheur… jusque pour les pâtes, fraîches donc, qu’il fait venir d’Alba, dans le Piémont.

Ce qui différencie le bon du très bon à ses yeux ? « Le très bon se voit dans les produits et dans les producteurs.

Dès lors qu’on les a rencontrés et apprécié leur travail, on ne cuisine plus de la même manière après et les trois quarts du plat sont quasiment faits. » Ce qui rappelle les mots Ducasse, où la cuisine est une histoire d’amour où « il faut tomber amoureux des produits et puis des gens qui la font. »

7h15 : rendez-vous en bas des pistes.

7h15-7h45 : réception et déchargement des marchandises – entre 1 et 1,5 tonne par restaurant par jour – acheminées vers la Folie Douce de Méribel en ratrack et pour Val d’Isère en télécabine. Nul retard autorisé pour les livreurs en montagne qui arrivent de la plaine ou de Paris, la télécabine étant réservée seulement tôt pour le restaurant avant d’être libérée pour les skieurs.

9h : début du travail en cuisine. Le self, la Petite Cuisine, ouvre à 11h30 et la Fruitière à 12h00.

A tall order if ever there were one. Despite the challenges faced, the local produce initiative was initiated by Franck a few years ago, and he sticks to it as much as possible, even if he is obliged to order a lot of his supplies from Paris. In this way he manages to use exclusively fresh produce which is seasonal wherever possible. No frozen ingredients, just pure freshness – right down to the fresh pasta which comes from Alba in Piedmont. What makes really good produce stand out in his eyes? “really good produce can be spotted in the products themselves and the producers. As soon as we’ve met them and appreciated what they do, we no longer cook in the same way and three quarters of the dish are almost complete”. Something which evokes the words of chef Ducasse, for whom cooking is a love story in which “one must fall in love with the products and then with the people who make them”.

Pour la première fois depuis le début de leur collaboration, une toute nouvelle bouteille Skoll édition limitée sera mise en vente dans les établissements de La Folie Douce à partir de décembre 2018.

Une étiquette inédite...

Avec cette édition limitée Folie Douce, Skoll se met aux couleurs de l’établissement et habille sa traditionnelle bouteille (saveur vodka agrumes) d’une nouvelle étiquette bleue et blanche. « Skoll est une bière qui a un joli contenant.

son image dramatique appellée « Enfants de Qayyarah » et représentant la ville désolée d’Irak alors que deux enfants sont seuls dans ses rues. À l’arrière-plan, on apercevait la fumée déferlant des puits de pétrole incendiés par les militants de l’Etat islamique.

Cette année, le grand prix revient à Jasmin Salam du Bangladesh pour sa photo « Displaced ».

Dans les années 30, il n’existe pas encore de vêtements réellement dédiés à la pratique du ski et voici ce que l’on pouvait lire dans Le Figaro : «Le pantalon sera large, les emmanchures de la veste bien découpées pour permettre une entière liberté de mouvement ; bannir de votre équipement alpin les couleurs pastels qui ont toujours l’air passées et fanées dans la puissante splendeur d’une transparente matinée d’hiver».

L’anorak constitue la nouveauté de la tenue de montagne de l’après-guerre.

Il est destiné à être porté par-dessus tous les autres vêtements et constitue un survêtement de protection contre le froid, la neige, la pluie et le vent. Il est réalisé en tissu serré, résistant et hydrofuge. Une première !

Anoraks were the new feature of the post-war mountain outfit. They were designed to be worn over all other garments and served as an outer protection against the cold, snow, rain and wind. They were made of tight, robust and water-repellent fabric. A first!

Côté féminin, la mode est à la doudoune aux épaules surdimensionnées ou à la veste en nylon sortie tout droit d’une série B.

Le must des années 90 reste la combinaison avec boucle de ceinture en plastique arborées par des gangs de “monoskieurs”, notamment dans la station des Arcs.

Technicité,vêtements adaptés, sobriété sont les maîtres mots des tenues de ski des années 2000. Exit les tenues ultra-moulantes, place aux tenues amples, voir très très amples !

Il est désormais loin le temps où l’on dévalait les pistes en combinaison fluo. Les tenues se font plus élégantes, sans rien concéder au confort et à la praticité. Et sont à conjuguer au masculin comme au féminin.

Lors des deux mois de tournage à Val d’Isère, l’actrice qui joue Christiane l’esthéticienne s’est sentie très isolée du groupe des autres acteurs, qui ne voulaient pas d’elle dans leur hôtel. Fâchée avec la troupe, elle a fait une grosse déprime à la fin du tournage et menacé de rentrer à Paris.

1/ DOMINIQUE LAVANANT During the two months of filming in Val d’Isère, the actress playing the part of Christiane the beautician felt isolated from the group of actors, who didn’t want her to stay with them in their hotel. After falling out with the others, she eventually fell into a deep depression and threatened to return to Paris.

2/ Mauvais skieurs La moitié des acteurs de la troupe, dont Michel Blanc et Dominique Lavanant, ne savait pas skier en arrivant sur le tournage, et après non plus d’ailleurs.

2/ BAD SKIERS Half of the actors in the film, including Michel Blanc and Dominique Lavanant, didn’t know how to ski when they arrived on set, and still didn’t afterwards for that matter!

3/ Une météo très capricieuse Le réalisateur Patrice Leconte garde un mauvais souvenir du temps. Le froid et une tempête ont eu raison de plusieurs prises.

Notamment au moment de tourner une séquence dans un coin reculé de la montagne où l’équipe avait accédé en hélicoptère.

4/ L’histoire vraie de la liqueur de crapaud

La scène de la dégustation de liqueur chez les paysans savoyards a été recommencée vingt fois.

Le chef opérateur JeanFrançois Robin n’arrivait pas à contrôler un fou-rire quand il cadrait Gérard Jugnot et Michel Blanc.

Par ailleurs, ce curieux breuvage avait déjà été évoqué dans la version théâtre du Père Noël est une ordure.

4/ THE TRUE STORY OF TOAD LIQUEUR The scene in which the actors are sampling liqueur with Savoie country-types took twenty attempts to film. The chief cameraman, JeanFrançois Robin was unable to stop giggling while filming Gérard Jugnot and Michel Blanc. What’s more, this strange concoction had already been mentioned in a theatre version of “Santa Claus is a Stinker”. >>>

3/ INCLEMENT WEATHER The director, Patrice Leconte has painful memories about the weather conditions. The freezing cold and a storm prevented us from filming on several occasions. In particular, while filming a scene in a remote mountain location, which the team needed to access via helicopter.

5/ Le film remporte plus de succès aujourd’hui

7/ Un moniteur de ski plus vrai que nature

Si en 1979, le film n’a pas été un triomphe en salles avec 1,5 million de spectateurs, les rediffusions l’ont rendu culte. En décembre 2008, sa rediffusion avait réuni 10,4 millions de téléspectateurs.

Fernand Bonnevie, le moniteur de Val d’Isère qui fait travailler le « planter de bâton » à Jean-Claude, existe vraiment. Ce Savoyard donnait des cours de ski à Val d’Isère. Après le tournage de la séquence pendant laquelle Michel Blanc lui plante son bâton de ski dans le dos (en réalité dans une plaque de polystyrène cachée sous sa combinaison), le skieur expérimenté était allé boire un verre de vin chaud dans un bar de la station, gardant son bâton planté dans le dos.

6/ La chanson de Michel Blanc n’était pas celle initialement prévue Le refrain qu’entonne JeanClaude Dusse sur le télésiège devait être initialement celui d’ Etoiles des neiges mais les ayants droit de la chanson ont refusé qu’elle soit utilisée dans le film.

Thierry Lhermitte et Gérard Jugnot, co-scénaristes, ont donc composé un autre air devenu célèbre : « Quand te reverrai-je, pays merveilleux, où ceux qui s’aiment, vivent à deux… » .

6/ MICHEL BLANC’S SONG WASN’T THAT INITIALLY PLANNED The song Jean-Claude Dusse broke into on the ski lift was initially supposed to be “Snow Star”, but the song’s right’s holders refused for it to be used in the film. Co-scriptwriters, Thierry Lhermitte and Gérard Jugnot therefore composed another song which turned into a hit.

Fernand Bonnevie, the Val D’Isère instructor who teaches Jean-Claude to “plant a pole”, exists in real life. The Savoie man used to be a real-life ski instructor in Val d’Isère. After filming the scene in which Michel Blanc stabs him in the back with the ski pole (in reality the pole was thrust into a polystyrene board hidden beneath his ski suit), the expert skier went for a glass of mulled wine in a bar in the resort with the pole still wedged in his back!

ernand Bonnevie était un grand homme de Val d’Isère, mais il est connu surtout par le public pour sa prestation dans le film “Les Bronzés font du ski”.

Il était le professeur de ski de Mr Duss (Michel Blanc).

Lors d’une interview avec Stéphanie Boucher, il expliquait : « J’ai jamais vraiment su pourquoi j’ai été pris. Je pense qu’ils voulaient un moniteur qui ne voulait pas faire son avenir dans le cinéma. Car si ça avait été un jeune moniteur, il aurait fait attention à son image, moi, qu’est-ce que j’en avais à foutre ! Je leur ai bien dit au moment du film, vous me prenez comme je suis et n’essayez pas de me changer ! Oh non non ont-ils dit, on ne vous changera pas, on fait un essai ».

Lorsque l’on regarde ce film, on ne sait pas qu’il se déroule à Val d’Isère. Il faut connaître Val pour savoir que cela se déroule là-bas. Selon Fernand, les producteurs avaient demandé 3 millions d’anciens Francs (soit 30.000Fr ou 4.500 Euros) à la commune, qui a refusé. « C’est sûr ça faisait un peu de sous mais maintenant qu’est-ce que c’est 3 millions ? ».

Une autre durant laquelle la petite troupe, perdue dans la montagne, commençait à songer au cannibalisme pour survivre.

8/ CUT SCENES Several scenes – 40 minutes in total – were cut out. One in which Martin Lamotte, playing an arrogant Porsche-driving party animal, squared up to Jean-Claude Dusse as he came out of a night club. And another during which the gang, lost in the mountains, started to consider cannibalism as a way of surviving.

FERNAND AND FRENCH FRIED VACATION 2 Fernand Bonnevie was already a prominent figure in Val d’Isère, but became well known by the general public for his performance in the film, “French Fried Vacation 2”, playing Mr Duss (Michel Blanc)’s ski instructor. During an interview with Stéphanie Boucher, he explained, “I don’t really know why they chose me. I think they wanted an instructor who didn’t want a future in film. Because if they’d picked a young instructor, he’d have been worrying about the way he looked, and I couldn’t care less about all that! I told them, take me as I am, and don’t try to change me! Oh no, they said, we won’t change you, let’s do an audition”. When you watch the film, you don’t realise it was filmed in Val d’Isère. You have to know the resort to understand it was filmed there. According to Fernand, the producers asked for 3 million old French Francs (30,000 Francs or 4,500 Euros) from the town council, who refused. “Sure, it was a bit of money but what’s 3 million nowadays”?

L

’engouement des consommateurs pour ces boîtes à rêve ne se dément pas. Il faut avouer que le principe de la box est séduisant: l’éditeur regroupe plusieurs produits d’un univers de consommation - plutôt haut de gamme - dans un coffret et l’expédie à ses abonnés, qui s’acquittent d’un règlement de 13 à 20 euros environ par mois.

Le contenu de la boîte est jalousement gardé secret jusqu’à sa sortie afin d’entretenir l’effet de surprise qui plaît tant aux destinataires. Sélection drastique des produits, packaging soigné, prix abordables...: les box ont tout pour plaire !

Les start-up qui les conçoivent - créées par des blogueurs ou des jeunes diplômés d’école de commerce - s’appuient sur des plateformes internet au contenu éditorial très travaillé pour capter du trafic et transformer les visiteurs en abonnés. Le concept, arrivé des Etats-Unis, a fait florès et s’étend désormais à d’autres secteurs que celui de la beauté.

But this market in full expansion is still brand new. Two Harvard graduates, Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna, came up with the concept in 2010, with Birchbox. The idea was a box with a cleverly crafted look, sent each month to customers, containing half a dozen carefully chosen beauty products. With 45,000 subscribers in the first year alone, their success gave ideas to others, such as the German Glossybox, the French JolieBox (bought out by the US pioneer) and My Little Box followed suit the following year.

And there has been a surge ever since. “There are around 250 different boxes in France alone”, points out Michaël Maarek, who produces two sites dedicated to the phenomenon, La Box du mois and TouteslesBox. Encouraged by the pioneers’ success, boxes are now entering a series of other domains. Since summer of 2012, Dandy Box for men, Thé Box for tea fans, My VitiBox for wine lovers and WoufBox, for pets have all made an appearance!

onsumers’ enthusiasm for these boxes of dreams shows no signs of slowing. It should be pointed out that the box concept is an attractive one, with several products from a consumer universe - usually highend – being grouped together in a box which is then sent to subscribers, who pay around 13 to 20 euros per month.

The boxes’ content is kept secret until release to really surprise recipients. The wide selection of products, attractive packaging and affordable prices mean that the boxes appeal to everyone!

The start-ups behind them – created by bloggers or young business school graduates – rely on web platforms with very elaborate editorial content to capture traffic and transform visitors into subscribers. The concept, imported from the US, was an immediate hit and is now reaching out into other sectors apart from beauty.

Ce buzzword vous est sûrement familier tant on le voit apparaître sur la blogosphère et les réseaux sociaux. À mesure que le monde se globalise, les cultures se mélangent de plus en plus. Cinéma, musique ou encore cuisine, tout y passe… et la langue ne fait pas exception, bien au contraire.

Nous buvons désormais des Latte après un footing, passons la journée au hammam et ne manquons jamais notre cours de yoga. Autant de mots importés d’autres cultures.

Notre fameux Wanderlust, lui, est apparu en langue allemande il y a environ 700 ans. Il est formé du verbe wandern (cheminer, vagabonder, randonner) et du substantif lust qui signifie « envie » ou « passion ». Et si ce terme si spécifique a réussi à passer dans d’autres langues, c’est parce que nous portons tous en nous l’esprit d’aventure, l’esprit Wanderlust.

« La vie est un voyage et voyager, c’est vivre deux fois » : cette maxime attribuée au poète persan Omar Khayyam résume bien l’essence du Wanderluster : né pour voyager, sa maison est le monde et il n’a qu’une hâte, en connaître les moindres recoins, même les plus reculés. Le syndrome de Wanderlust n’est finalement rien d’autre que la passion, vieille comme l’humanité, qui pousse à découvrir l’inconnu, à dépasser les frontières, physiques et morales. Et il n’y a rien de plus stimulant que d’en faire l’expérience dans la vie.

Les « digital nomads », ces travailleurs sans bureau fixe, allient plaisir du tourisme et activité professionnelle, avec pour critère premier la qualité de la connexion Internet.

France, Royaume-Uni, Pays-Bas, EtatsUnis, Espagne… Ils viennent du monde entier et ont poussé le concept du « travailler n’importe où, n’importe quand » à son paroxysme.

Les uns sont traducteurs, auteurs, consultants, codeurs, communicants, « start-uppeurs », experts en référencement digital, les autres font du marketing en ligne, du graphisme, du design ou encore du e-commerce.

Tous se retrouvent derrière le même acronyme : DN, pour « digital nomads », ces travailleurs sans bureau fixe, qui parcourent le monde en travaillant à distance.

A WANDERLUSTER’S VERY ESSENCE “Life is a journey and those who travel live twice”, this maxim attributed to the Persian poet, Omar Khayyam efficiently sums up the essence of a Wanderluster: born to travel, his home is the world and he has but one desire, to discover every corner, even the most far-flung. The Wanderlust syndrome is actually nothing more than a passion, as old as humanity, which pushes us to discover the unknown and to reach beyond physical and moral boundaries. And there’s nothing more stimulating than to experience this during one’s lifetime.

Digital nomads work without any set office space, combining the pleasure of travel with their professional activity. A reliable internet connection is a primary criterion. France, Britain, the Netherlands, the US, Spain…they come from all over the world and have pushed the concept of “working anywhere” to its limits. Some are translators, authors, consultants, coders, communicators, “start-uppers” or experts in digital referencing, while others are in on-line marketing, graphism, design or e-commerce. All have adopted the same acronym: DN, or digital nomad, workers without a set office space, travelling the globe and working remotely.

You’ve no doubt seen the buzzword repeatedly in the blogosphere and on social networks.

In a globalising world, cultures are converging more and more. Film, music and cooking, you name it, and languages are no exception; quite the contrary in fact. We now go for a latte after our jog, we spend the day in the hammam and never miss our yoga sessions.

These words are all imported from other cultures. The term Wanderlust, appeared in the German language about 700 years ago. It is made up of the verb “wandern” (to trundle along, roam, ramble) and the noun, “lust” meaning desire or passion. This specific term has managed to effortlessly slip into other languages because we all carry within us this spirit of adventure, the Wanderlust spirit.

KENNY SCHARF Artiste de rue new-yorkais des années 1970 et 1980, Kenny Scharf est connu pour ses personnages de dessins animés spontanés.

Sa peinture murale a été un pilier de Wynwood Walls depuis sa création.

New York street artist from the 70s and 80s, Kenny Scharf is known for his spontaneous cartoon characters. His wall painting has been a pillar of Wynwood Walls since its creation.

Le travail de l’artiste de Miami Magnus Sodamin couvre les murs de Wynwood. Peint en stries verticales de toutes les couleurs de l’arc-en-ciel, son travail est ponctué de fleurs inspirées des marins pêchant dans la baie de Biscayne et de la nature éthérée du lever et du coucher du soleil.

The work of Miami artist, Magnus Sodamin covers the walls of Wynwood. Painted in multi-colour vertical stripes, his work is punctuated with flowers, inspired by sailors fishing in Biscayne Bay and the ethereal nature of sun rise and sun set.

Shepard Fairey, an artist based in Los Angeles, is best known for his Obey campaign and the Obama Hope poster. He is also one of the first Wynwood Wall collaborators, creating not only a permanent outdoor fresco, but also the logo and interiors of Wynwood Kitchen & Bar. His wall painting is a collage of figures from pop culture and social justice from Martin Luther King Jr. to David Bowie and Basquiat.

He also produced a portrait of the founder of Wynwood Walls, Tony Goldman which figures prominently.

Maya Hayuk, une artiste basée à Brooklyn, a créé l’une des peintures murales les plus photographiées de Wynwood Walls avec ses formes géométriques aux couleurs pastel qui créent des formes de diamant superposées.

Jessy Nite est l’une des étoiles montantes de Miami dans le monde de l’art.

Son style et son sujet sont effrontés, provocateurs avec un vrai sens de la place de la culture à Miami.

Elle a un certain nombre de peintures murales autour de Wynwood, y compris l’extérieur entier du bureau Redbull peint dans un motif rétinien géométrique, en niveaux de gris.

MSG Crew is a local art collective, whose signature is a Florida orange resembling a cartoon character, with a broad, toothy grin. Heavily influenced by interventionist graffiti, their works can be seen right across the city. At the former RC Cola factory in Wynwood, they painted a huge wall forming part of a Star Wars set.

La police de Londres est un collectif d’art britannique basé à Amsterdam qui apporte un sens ludique à son travail, utilisant souvent un groupe de personnages connus sous le nom de CONT, représentés par de simples dessins au trait avec des têtes rondes et des visages heureux. London Police Force is a British art collective based in Amsterdam which brings a fun aspect to its work, often using a group of characters known by the name of CONT, represented by simple line drawings with round heads and smiley faces. Hygge, pronounced hoo-gah and meaning cocooning, is not simply a decoration trend but a fully-fledged part of Danish art of living. In this northern European country, where the cold days begin with the onset of autumn, locals have developed a life ritual to combat the gloom of a particularly long and harsh winter.

C’EST EXUBÉRANT, EXTRAVAGANT, ÉPOUSTOUFLANT !

ON N’A JAMAIS VU ÇA : UNE DÉCO HORS NORMES, COMME SI ON AVAIT FAIT FUSIONNER SES ENVIES, SES FANTASMES LES PLUS INATTENDUS ET QUE ÇA FORME UNE HISTOIRE QUI A UN SENS : LE MONDE RÊVÉ DE LA MONTAGNE. ÇA SE PASSE OÙ ? AU PIED DE COURCHEVEL, DANS UN HAMEAU CRÉÉ DE TOUTES PIÈCES. IL FAUT DIRE tout de suite que cette création est le résultat d’une complicité parfaite et sans nuage entre les propriétaires, Candice et Marc et leur architecte, Olivier Gay. Une fusion entre l’imaginaire, l’audace, le perfectionnisme des premiers et la culture, les connaissances, le sens de l’agencement de l’autre. L’alchimie a fonctionné et sans elle, rien n’aurait été possible.

Résultat, rien de prévisible, des surprises derrière chaque porte, un sens des couleurs et des matières qui défie l’imagination. Comme un festival de l’air du temps. Les hôtes qui y ont séjourné parlent d’une « expérience incroyable, avec à chaque jour ses nouvelles découvertes ! » AU DÉPART, un terrain familial en contrebas du village de Courchevel 1550. Un pré, un potager et une très vieille grange à la limite d’un bois. Le couple voyage beaucoup, a une passion pour le Groënland et tous les paysages de montagne, explore à ski les hauteurs des Alpes françaises et suisses, photographiant chaque grange, chaque bergerie.

THE CHALET OF ENCHANTMENT

Avec l’envie de faire quelque chose de ce joli bout de terre sans nuire au voisinage, sans être imposant, ni ostentatoire. C’est en comprenant les implications financières du moindre projet, viabiliser le terrain, construire une route, des accès… qu’il décide de voir plus grand et que nait l’idée du hameau regroupant l’ancienne grange, un « mazot », et le chalet Sisimiut (nom inuit) que nous vous faisons découvrir dans ce reportage.

DANS LA CONSTRUCTION déjà se lit leur refus des acquis, des idées toutes faites. La vieille grange se voit adjoindre une extension. Bois contre pierre. Non pas la pierre en soubassement surmontée de bardages comme le veut la tradition, non, tout bois : bardages depuis le sol et toiture en tavaillons. L’extension, elle, sera toute en pierre, jusqu’au toit de lauze. À quelque distance, un chalet noir de noir, en planches de bois brûlé, posé à cheval sur une piscine in & out, festonné comme un chalet suisse et accolé à un chalet de bois clair, tout clair. À côté, un cheval lampe grandeur nature, dans son écrin de verre.

ENTRONS. D’une pièce à l’autre, il devient évident que Candice se fiche des règles classiques et va où la porte son imaginaire.

Et on est sous le charme. Car cette imagination se double d’un perfectionnisme exigeant qui fait que loin d’une succession incohérente, les pièces entrent en harmonie les unes avec les autres et le chalet raconte une histoire qui a un sens : le monde de la montagne, tel que l’imagine Candice.

Au mur un imprimé de Frey, ultra connu (le motif chalets) côtoie un motif de la dernière collection Elitis. Sur le palier des chambres

du bas (que Candice a traité avec encore plus d’attention, parce qu’elle « n’aime pas l’idée que descendre soit moins prestigieux que monter »), un cerf jaillit littéralement du mur, faisant éclater la cloison comme dans une bulle de bande dessinée (une première pour le plaquiste !). Le chalet est une suite de sortilèges. Dans une salle de bains, on est environné par une vue magique sur les cimes des arbres enneigés. Cela pourrait parfaitement être vrai, sauf que c’est un sortilège (un motif retro-éclairé), la pièce n’a pas d’ouvertures ! >>>

This creation is the result of perfect and cloudless complicity between the owners, Candice and Marc, and their architect, Olivier Gay. It is a fusion between the owners’ imagination, boldness and perfectionism and Olivier’s culture, know-how and organisation skills. The alchemy worked and without it, nothing would have been possible. The result is nothing that could have been foreseen, with a surprise behind each door and a sense of colours and materials to defy the imagination. Like a celebration of all that is modern. Guests who have stayed here describe an “incredible experience, with new discoveries to be made each day!”

The property started out as a family plot at the foot of Courchevel 1550 village. There was a meadow, a kitchen garden and a very old barn on the edge of a wood. The couple travel a great deal, love Greenland and mountain scenery, explore the French and Swiss Alps on skis, photographing every barn and sheepfold. Their desire was to make something of this beautiful plot of land, without disturbing the neighbourhood by being imposing or ostentatious. After getting to grips with the financial implications of every single idea, servicing the land, building a road and access paths, they decided to set their sights higher and thus was born the idea of a hamlet, grouping together the former barn, a cabin, and Sisimiut chalet (an Inuit name) that you will discover in this report.

THE CONSTRUCTION itself bears witness to their refusal to accept preconceived ideas. The old barn was extended.

with cladding, but instead everything was built from wood: cladding from the ground up and wooden tile roofing. The extension, meanwhile, was built entirely in stone, right up to the lauze roof.

Nearby, is a black chalet in burnt wooden planks, astride an in & out swimming pool, with scalloped edges to lend Swiss chalet charm, standing next to an entirely light wood chalet. Next to it, a life-size horse lamp, in a glass case.

INSIDE, from one room to another, it becomes clear that Candice couldn’t care less about classical rules and gives free rein to her imagination. And we are captivated. Because this imagination is coupled with rigorous perfectionism, which is far from appearing as an incoherent succession. The rooms are in harmony with one another, and the chalet tells a meaningful story of the mountain universe, as Candice imagines it. On the wall is a well-known Frey print, (chalet pattern) alongside a pattern from Elitis’ latest collection. On the stairway to the downstairs bedrooms (which Candice decorated with an even keener eye to detail because she “doesn’t think that going downstairs should be any less prestigious than going upstairs”), a deer literally leaps out from the wall, bursting through the plaster like a cartoon strip bubble (a first for the plasterer!).

The chalet is a parade of enchantment. In one of the bathrooms, we enjoy magical views over snow-capped treetops. We could be forgiven for thinking what we were seeing was real, except that this is another trick of the eye (a back-lit motif) - the room has no openings!

ENCORE UN SORTILÈGE ? Dans une chambre, au-dessus du lit, un grand trou dans le plafond révèle un paysage nocturne de forêt enchantée, le renard vous regarde, les baies rouges vous tentent… Candice n’aime pas que les choses s’arrêtent quand elles peuvent commencer.

L’imaginaire joue sur cette percée d’autant plus que les planches au plafond sont comme arrachées, inégalement échardées.

AILLEURS, c’est un bois brûlé, calciné qui vous interpelle… Les chambres se succèdent et vous font passer d’un univers à un autre : la forêt et ses mystères, la montagne et le ski, l’igloo, parfaitement blanc, qui libère une atmosphère cotonneuse avec ses rideaux en mohair blanc, son alcôve en stuc, ses luminaires comme une ribambelle de bougies. Tout en haut, logique, on trouve l’alpage et sa baignoire chaudron en cuivre.

ANOTHER TRICK OF THE EYE? In one of the bedrooms, over the bed, a large hole in the ceiling reveals a nocturnal scene of an enchanted forest, with a fox glaring at you and red berries tempting you. Candice doesn’t like things to end where they can begin. Our imagination is given free rein with this opening, particularly because the irregular ceiling joists look like they’ve been ripped off.

ELSEWHERE, burnt wood catches the eye. The bedrooms come in succession, leading you from one universe to another - the forest and its mysteries, mountains and skiing, immaculate white igloos offering cosy surroundings, with white mohair curtains, a stucco alcove and light fittings resembling a slew of candles.

Right at the top, fittingly, is a mountain pasture with a copper “cauldron” bathtub.

MÊME LE MOBILIER joue sa partie et ajoute au trompe l’oeil, ici on croit cette énorme couette bleue oubliée sur un fauteuil… Pas du tout, “c’est” le fauteuil et sa couette est sanglée ! Là, une banquette en « S » aux anneaux de couleur joue les serpents face à la baie. C’est ainsi que Candice et Olivier Gay ont passé des heures à chercher sur internet dans le monde entier des objets qui retiennent leur attention, écumé les antiquaires, les salons, les expositions, tout ce qui pouvait nourrir leur sens de la fantaisie.

EVEN THE FURNITURE plays its part and adds to the trompe l’oeil effect. This enormous blue duvet seems to have been left on an arm chair…not at all, it is the arm chair and the duvet is strapped on! While the S-shaped bench seat with coloured rings, looks like a snake opposite the window. Candice and Olivier Gay spent hours surfing the internet looking for items which capture their attention, they trawled antiques dealers, trade shows, exhibitions and anywhere else that could feed their imagination..

L

a poignée de porte en bronze, créée sur mesure dans un grand format, en guise de bienvenue est un premier détail qui accroche le regard. On franchit la porte en se réjouissant par avance de nos découvertes.

Les propriétaires, Fanny et Yannick Gicquel, ont utilisé les 550 m2, dessinés par l’architecte Cédric Mourier, pour présenter l’univers et le savoir-faire de leur société Refuge, regroupant un studio d’architecture d’intérieur et une entreprise générale de rénovation.

SOIGNER LA PREMIÈRE IMPRESSION « C’est comme au restaurant, si vous loupez l’entrée vous pouvez vous dire que le reste ne sera pas terrible » précisent Fanny et Yannick Gicquel qui ont imaginé l’entrée du chalet comme une mise en bouche donnant envie de découvrir les autres pièces avec « appétit ».

Deux fauteuils pour se poser et se déchausser et de grands placards recouverts de tissus. Sur le mur, on aperçoit un premier papier peint texturé et graphique. C’est un peu la marque de fabrique de Refuge. On en découvre dans tous les projets et même parfois dans des endroits inattendus. L’entrée a réussi à aiguiser notre curiosité. >>>

The made-to-measure bronze door handle, in a large format, as a sign of welcome, is one of the first details that catches the eye. We step across the threshold and already begin to take delight in our discoveries. The owners, Fanny et Yannick Gicquel, used the 550 m2, designed by architect, Cédric Mourier, to showcase the universe and expertise of their company, Refuge, which includes an interior design studio and a general renovations company.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT “It’s like at a restaurant, if the starter is botched then the rest probably won’t be anything to write home about either”, explain Fanny and Yannick Gicquel, who designed the entrance to the chalet as a “hors d’oeuvre”, beckoning you to discover the other rooms with appetite. There are two arm chairs on which to sit down and remove shoes and large, fabric-covered cupboards. On the wall we see a textured and graphic wall paper.

This is Refuge’s trademark. We come across it in all their projects and even sometimes in unexpected places. The entrance truly whets our appetite.

ACCROCHER LA LUMIÈRE Avec ses 5 mètres de hauteur sous plafond, la pièce à vivre multiplie les espaces à usages multiples, sur un immense plateau ouvert. D’où vient ce sentiment d’apaisement et de douceur que l’on ressent ? Des couleurs, avec leurs nuances de crème, de beige et de brun. Volontairement intemporelles, elles permettent d’introduire autant de matières que l’on veut. Des matériaux d’une grande douceur et du mobilier invitant au repos. Qui n’a pas envie de se lover dans la balancelle recouverte d’une peau de mouton, installée face à la grande baie vitrée pour profiter du magnifique paysage ?

La cheminée, imposante, est mise en valeur, par son revêtement : une fine feuille de laiton à l’aspect brûlé, dont les couleurs évoluent au fil de la journée et scintillent à la tombée de la nuit. Du plus bel effet au-dessus d’un socle en granit noir. Les textures et les matériaux sélectionnés ont cette particularité, ils accrochent la lumière. Les matières choisies offrent chaleur et douceur à l’image des tapis en laine, des peaux de mouton, des plaids, des coussins sur le canapé et des fauteuils en peau lainée de la salle à manger qui donnent envie de prolonger les repas. Les rideaux bicolores en laine et lin, au tombé impeccable, se partagent en deux sur la même ligne que le haut de la fenêtre.

Des traits de lumière indirects apparaissent sous les poutres mettant en valeur la charpente, complétés par des abatjours design qui offrent une lumière tamisée. « La lumière, c’est 90% de la réussite d’un projet », nous précise Fanny Gicquel qui a choisi des luminaires en laiton dans la cage d’escalier pour leur couleur et leurs formes géométriques.

CAPTURE THE LIGHT

With its 5-metre-high ceilings, the living room offers a wide range of possibilities of use, with its extensive open area. The colour scheme exudes a sense of calm and comfort, with shades of cream, beige and brown.

Intentionally timeless, these hues allow as many materials to be introduced as required. The extremely soft materials and furnishings invite you to relax. Who wouldn’t want to get cosy on a swing seat covered with sheepskin, next to the window affording views over magnificent scenery?

The imposing fireplace is emphasised by its fine layer of burnt-looking brass, whose colours change during the day and shine at dusk. It provides an even more beautiful effect positioned on its black granite base. The textures and materials selected have the advantage of capturing the light. The materials offer warmth and softness, such as the wool carpets, sheepskins and throws, cushions on the sofa and skin-out arm chairs in the dining room, inviting you to extend mealtimes. The two-colour curtains in wool and linen which drape impeccably, change colour exactly in line with the top of the window. Shafts of indirect light appear beneath the beams to highlight the qualities of the framework, rounded off by fashionable lamp shades, offering a subdued light.

“Light is 90% responsible for a project’s success”, declares Fanny Gicquel, who opted for brass light fittings for the stairway due to their colour and geometric shape. They look wonderful set against >>> wood.

S’OFFRIR UN MUR DE NEIGE DANS L’ESCALIER

De grands panneaux de résine blancs habillent le mur de l’escalier du haut en bas de la maison. La résine du mur « Snow Wall » épouse la découpe de chaque marche.

Les lignes rappellent la topographie des terrains de montagne et le blanc est un clin d’oeil à la neige. Il s’agit de plaques à poser contre mur, qui nécessitent le savoir-faire d’un bon artisan. Les chambres, au nombre de sept, offrent toutes un charme particulier, distillé par le choix du papier peint géométrique et les matériaux. Le must ? Direction la master bed room avec accès à la terrasse couverte, ses rideaux « tie and dye », sa tête de lit en laine qui couvre toute la largeur du mur, avec liseuses intégrées, suspensions en verre qui tombent du plafond pour ne pas s’encombrer de tables de chevet, étagères-cubes recouvertes de peau et cheminée bioéthanol. >>>

A WALL OF SNOW ON THE STAIRCASE

The resin on the Snow Wall closely hugs each stair.

It recalls the topography of the mountain terrain and the white colour evokes snow. It is made up of panels that are placed against the wall, requiring the expertise of a proficient tradesman. The seven bedrooms each offer a unique charm through the choice of geometric wall paper and materials. Don’t miss the master bedroom, which offers access onto a covered terrace and boasts tie and dye curtains, a woollen headboard covering the entire width of the wall with integrated book lights, glass ceiling lights to avoid cluttering with bedside tables, cube shaped shelves covered with animal skin and a bioethanol fireplace. >>>

PRÉVOIR UN ÉCRIN POUR L’EAU La visite du chalet se termine par la piscine et son hammam, situés l’un à côté de l’autre, tous deux revêtus de mosaïque couleur bleu et champagne.

L’une des chambres a directement accès au bassin.

Une cheminée réchauffe et surprend agréablement, près des transats. Pas moins de 70 luminaires en verre survolent la piscine et lui apportent une touche véritablement magique. « Un intérieur ne doit pas ressembler à une couverture de magazine, mais doit être adapté à la personnalité de ses occupants. Nos clients voyagent beaucoup et sont habitués à vivre dans les beaux endroits. Il faut donc leur proposer des univers différents » concluent Fanny et Yannick Gicquel avant de s’envoler pour Londres où les attend leur seconde maison. >>>

A TRUE SHOWCASE FOR WATER The chalet tour ends with the pool and Turkish bath, located next to each other and both decorated with blue and champagne-coloured mosaic tiles. One of the bedrooms offers direct access to the swimming pool.

The fireplace is pleasantly warming and surprising, located next to the beach chairs. No fewer than 70 glass light fittings hang over the pool and offer a veritable magic touch. “An interior should not resemble a magazine cover, but rather should be adapted to suit the personality of its occupants. Our guests travel a great deal and are used to living in beautiful places. DEMONSTRATE CREATIVITY IN MOVEMENT SPACES

« J’adore travailler les plafonds. On n’y pense pas assez ».

Fanny Gicquel n’hésite pas à mettre du papier peint sur le plafond, mais aussi du verre fumé ou des incrustations de matière. Le couloir qui mène au dressing ou aux chambres est souvent aussi triste qu’un jour de pluie. Pourquoi ne pas l’égayer en combinant les matériaux comme ici du faux cuir et du tissu incrustés sur un bande d’une dizaine de centimètres ou par un joli luminaire qui semble tomber du plafond et qui ré-enchante un mur tapissé comme pour accéder au dressing de la master bed room ?

“I love decorating ceilings. We don’t think about them enough”.

Fanny Gicquel has no qualms about putting wall paper, smoked glass, or inlays on a ceiling. Corridors leading to dressing rooms or to bedrooms are often somewhat gloomy. Why not brighten them up by combining materials, such as here with fake leather and fabric inlaid on a strip a dozen centimetres long, or with an attractive light fitting seemingly falling from the ceiling to transform a fabriccovered wall or to access the master bedroom dressing room?

ÉVITER L’ACCUMULATION DE BOIS

AVOID ACCUMULATING WOOD

« La couleur n’est pas facile à intégrer. Je préfère les environnements doux. J’aime surtout les non couleurs ».

La couleur est comme saupoudrée, apportée par petites touches sur les coussins, les accessoires, mais elle offre toujours une brillance pour attirer le regard. Le brun domine car on peut l’associer à autant de matières que l’on veut.

Les matières choisies ici ont ce pouvoir fabuleux d’accrocher la lumière faisant ressortir la texture des matériaux. Dans les chalets, le bois habille souvent l’intérieur du sol au plafond.

Tout le contraire de ce qui est préconisé ici. « Trop de bois tue le bois ». C’est la devise de Fanny Gicquel.

“Colour isn’t easy to incorporate. I prefer soft environments. In particular I like discrete colours”. Here, colour seems to have been sprinkled on, with little touches on cushions and accessories, but it always offers some brightness to capture the attention. Brown is the dominant colour, as it can be teamed up with as many materials as necessary. The materials chosen here have a fabulous ability to capture the light, bringing out textures. Chalet interiors are often covered with wood from floor to ceiling. Exactly the opposite of what is suggested here. Fanny Gicquel’s motto is, “With wood, less is more”.

8 Avril - La fameuse KKH Islamabad. 35 heures de bus direction Skardu. La mythique route nommée Karakoram Highway. La KKH. Autrefois une des routes de la soie, c’est aujourd’hui le seul passage vers la Chine. La route est en chantier perpétuel. Il y a des camions tout bariolés qui se croisent entre les éboulis de pierre et les nids de poule. C’est le bordel. Gros mal de crâne. Il faut que j’arrive à dormir, mais à côté de moi il y a Yannick qui me raconte sa face Sud de l’Annapurna et son pote qui manque de lui claquer entre les doigts. Je l’écoute, baigné dans une odeur d’épices et de diesel, et je réalise avec un sourire intérieur que ouais, ce trip là il va être encore plus fou que les autres. Le Pakistan. Un nouveau pays à découvrir, une nouvelle langue à apprendre : l’Urdu. Nous traversons Abbottabad, la ville ou Ben Laden se planquait. Sac de pellicules photo en guise d’oreiller. « Shab bakher », Bonne nuit.

10 Avril - 2200 m - Skardu Je suis là, je contemple le jardin fleuri du lodge de Skardu, l’Indus qui coule paisiblement en contre-bas. Mes yeux sont grand ouverts. Ses méandres se dessinent dans un lit sablonneux, des dunes de sable blanc au loin. Je contemple le spectacle de la nature. A la pesée nous avons plus de 360kg de matériel qu’on devra porter à 8. Plus on s’en rapproche moins cela semble réel. Mais on y est. On est à Skardu, on fait le packing de tout le matos et des vivres à emporter : luges-traineaux, bonbonnes de gaz pour faire fondre la neige, panneaux solaires, splitboards et skis de rando, cordes, tentes, duvets, sachets de lyophilisés, tomme et saucisson, biscuits, etc. Il faut être le plus léger possible. Yannick, qui est déjà venu 15 fois au Pakistan, ne fait que le répéter.

Nos sacs sont prêts et demain nous serons à Askole, le dernier village au bout de la route. Encore un rêve sur le point de se réaliser.

Qui aurait cru que le snowboard m’emmènerait aussi loin ?

Thomas’ diary 10 April – 2,200 m - Skardu We have more than 360kg of equipment requiring 8 of us to carry it. The closer we get, the less real it seems. But we’re here in Skardu.

Our bags are ready and tomorrow we’ll be in Askole, the last village at the end of the road. Who’d have thought that snowboarding would’ve brought me so far?

11 Avril - 2900 m

13 Avril - 3350 m Traversée du torrent

Askole. On a enfin rejoint les porteurs. Ils commencent le trek avec nous, puis on s’engage dans une boucle très ambitieuse de 150 km, en passant par le mythique col du Skam La, à 5600m. Personne n’est jamais allé faire du freeride par là-bas. Car le véritable objectif c’est la tour nord Biacherahi. Perdue au fin fond d’un glacier méconnu, c’est une face en forme d’aileron de requin que Thomas avait repéré dans un livre à la bibliothèque. Verticale. Jamais skiée. Aucune photo ou information récente. On sait même pas à quoi vont ressembler les glaciers. Mais depuis ce jour, il ne rêve que de la descendre en snow. Quand il a appris que son pote Zak avait eu la même idée il a monté l’expédition. Et maintenant on y est. Le Karakoram. Tout ça à cause d’une photo dans un vieux bouquin. La tour Nord Biacherahi. 5880m. Tom, t’es vraiment un grand malade.

Le temps est magnifique et des sommets pointus se détachent du ciel déjà à 360°. On progresse à travers un décor variable, un coup dans du sable fin blanc, un coup dans des pierriers. Les mules ne cessent de m’impressionner par leur agilité, chargées comme elles sont. Un éboulement nous oblige à traverser deux fois la rivière. Les porteurs et leurs mules passent en 5 minutes quand il faut une demiheure pour nous autres petit français précieux. Je manoeuvre pieds nus sur les rochers glissants et avec le courant l’eau se rapproche dangereusement de mes couilles. Le choc thermique est violent. Je me retourne en arrivant sur l’autre rive pour voir où en sont les autres. Tom en slip chapeau faisait de drôle de grimace avec un sacré style de pinpin.

15 Avril - 4400 m Nobande Sobande !

Le soleil se couche sur note premier camp sur le glacier de Nobande Sobande. Tout au bout de celui-ci se trouve la Biacherahi Tower et le Skam La. Ce matin les porteurs nous ont déposés à 4300m d’altitude, là où nos luges peuvent glisser, avant de repartir en trottinant vers Askole avec un grand sourire. Ils ne sont jamais allé aussi loin sur ce glacier.

Comme nous ne sommes pas sur le chemin d’accès à un sommet de plus de 8000m, l’endroit n’est jamais parcouru.

Ils voulaient faire demi-tour bien avant, mais Yannick a négocié à coup de boites de snickers. Ca fera ça de moins à manger, mais aussi ça de moins à porter. Jérôme a distribué des bon pourboires en plaçant un maximum de salamalèkes en Urdu. Il a fallut packer une nouvelle fois pour remplir les luges. Elles sont tellement lourdes ! Ce soir nous avalons nos premiers sachets de lyophilisés. Les premiers d’une longue série. Notre isolement s’est renforcé encore d’un cran. On est tout seuls. Complètement tout seuls.

Jérôme’s Diary 11 Avril – 2,900 m Askole. We finally reach the porters. They start the trek with us, then we begin the very ambitious 150 km loop passing through the mythical Skam La pass at 5,600m. No one has ever been freeriding there. The main objective is the Biacherahi north tower. It’s a vertical shark fin-shaped face that Thomas saw in a library book. Both he and his friend Zak dream of snowboarding down it so they organised the expedition. And all that because of an old library book!

Léo’s Diary 13 Avril - 3350 m - Traversée du torrent 13 April – 3,350 m – River crossing. The weather is beautiful.

We journey across ever-changing scenery. The mules never cease to amaze me with their agility, as laden as they are. A landslide forces us to cross the river twice.

The porters and their mules cross in 5 minutes while it takes half an hour for us Frenchies.

Thomas’ Diary 15 April – 4,400 m - Nobande Sobande!

The sun sets over our camp on Nobande Sobande glacier. This morning the porters dropped us at 4,300m, before setting off again towards Askole. They’ve never ventured so far on this glacier.

20 Avril - 5020 m La mission Je me réveile à 5h20. Dehors toujours la tempête, mais on doit bouger le camp coûte que coûte. Personne n’est vraiment motivé mais il faut y aller. Demain du beau temps est annoncé. L’entrée de mon igloo est enneigée jusqu’au plafond et les tentes des autres encore pire. Ca va être chaud, il y a des crevasses partout. Yannick donne des ordres à tout le monde pour démonter le camp, une fois que tout le monde est prêt il nous annonce qu’il faut qu’il aille chier.

On attend 10 minutes dans le froid. Hélias en encorde trois derrière lui et prend la tête du convoi. Ma luge est lourde. Je continue à tirer mon fardeau au milieu des trous, sans corde, sans aucune visu. Au bout d’un moment je débranche le cerveau et je marche sans penser au risque. Je suis épuisé, plus rien dans le slip. Ca tombe bien, les autres sont pareils. Vers 16h, on est toujours dans le blizzard, il est temps de mettre le camp.

On navigue au GPS, en lui faisant confiance, car on n’y voit vraiment que dalle. J’attaque à creuser un nouvel igloo mais à 5000m, ça pique. Tom et Hélias me rejoignent quand ils voient que je deviens fébrile. J’ai les pieds gelés, y’a plus d’eau et trop la flemme de faire à manger. Heureusement Zak m’a donné une tasse de thé et un peu de son lyoph’. La tente flappe dans tous les sens.

5 jours de beau sont annoncés dans la tente d’à côté. Je m’endors.

22 Avril - 5020 m A l’assaut des Two Towers 5h00 Il fait -25°C au réveil, et grand beau !

L’excitation du premier jour de ride. On vise un mur de spine proche du camp surplombé de deux grosses pointes rocheuses au sommet.

Départ à 7h20. Yannick installe le relais et me fait signe d’y aller, je passe la rimaye et attaque un mur de glace de 6m de haut avec un seul piolet.

Je parviens à me hisser difficilement, j’ai le bras qui tétanise. Hélias nous rattrape et passe devant. « Ce gars là déchire » je me dis.

La face est plus difficile que prévue, pendant 30 minutes nos deux Himalayistes cherchent un passage dans une goulotte de glace. Les spines sont trop chargés de poudreuse. La tension s’installe. Zak perd patience et leur dit texto « With my knowledge I would have been at the top 40 minutes ago », et là Il se désencorde.

23 Avril - 5020 m - Le plan Deuxième nuit dans le nouvel Igloo. Tout le monde a besoin de repos après la ligne d’hier. Avant de dropper, j’avais visualisé la traversée délicate qui m’attendait. Yannick m’a répété d’y aller mollo : « 30% de marge les gars ! ». Hélias lui a dit de se taire et de me faire confiance. Je me sentais bien. J’étais à 5300m et j’allais faire ma première ligne au Pakistan.

Je me suis élancé dans les flutes. C’était de la bombe. De la MEGA bombe.

Aujourd’hui nous élaborons un plan : la fenêtre météo pour passer le Skam La se rétrécissant, nous décidons d’attaquer la Biacherahi dès le lendemain matin. Pas le temps de niaiser. On va direct sur la fat mama.

Ca risque d’être une sacrée bataille. On recharge un max de batteries sur les panneaux solaires. On boit on mange tout ce qu’on peut. Je prépare et re-re-prépare mon sac. Tous au lit à 18h30. Demain on monte en haut d’un monstre à 5880m. Je ne sais pas comment expliquer mes sentiments.

L’attente est interminable. Je suis à la fois excité et effrayé. Je repense à ce que Zak m’a dit : « Biacherahi Tower is for gangsters only ». Je ne sais pas si je suis un gangster. La boule au ventre, je garde ma gourde contre moi pour pas qu’elle gèle. Je regarde les photos de la face et m’endors en me disant : ça va le faire, ça va le faire.

Léo’s Diary 20 April – 5,020 m - The mission I wake up at 5.20 a.m. The entrance of my igloo is snowed up to the ceiling. Yannick tells everyone to tear down the camp. Hélias ropes up three people behind him and takes the lead of the cortege. My toboggan is heavy. At around 4 p.m. we’re still in a blizzard, it’s time to set up camp. I start digging my new igloo but at 5,000m, it’s hard.

Zak loses patience and tells them “With my experience I could have been at the top 40 minutes ago”. Yannick flies off the handle. Tom calms down Yannick and convinces Zak to come back. He says we’re a team and that we have to stick together.

We’re excited for our first day of boarding. We set off at 7 a.m. I pass the bergschrund and attack a wall of ice 6 metres high with only one ice axe. The rock face is more difficult than planned; for 30 minutes our two Himalaya climbers try to find a passage through an ice gully.

Today we draw up a plan: the weather window to pass the Skam La is shrinking, we decide to attack Biacherahi next morning. We eat and drink as much as we can. Everyone’s in bed for 6.30 p.m.

27 Avril - Presque à Snow Lake Journal de Zak

26 Avril - Skam La !

Aujourd’hui nous sommes devenu le quatrième groupe à avoir passé le Skam La à skis. Quel soulagement, vu l’effort que c’était ! Yannick est vraiment un sacré cowboy des montagnes. Il a fallu trois cordes de 60m pour arriver à bout du rappel versant Ouest, alors que la météo se dégradait rapidement dans une ambiance folle. Au milieu de ce chaos, c’était un vrai régal d’imaginer qu’à partir de maintenant c’est en descente jusqu’à Askole. Tirer les luges avec la gravité de notre coté sera une affaire bien différente. L’expérience de Yannick nous a vraiment sauvés, et Hélias est une totale machine, il est de loin le membre le plus fort de notre petit groupe.

Nous sommes ici sur une autre planète. La planète Sim Gang. Le temps est arrêté. Le paysage n’est fait que de glace et de roche. Seuls à des dizaines de kilomètres à la ronde.

Au gré des éclaircies nous pouvons admirer les habitants de ce nouveau monde. Skam Brakk, Bahinta Brak, Uzun Brak et d’autres anonymes qui me rendent tout autant stupéfait. Je suis abasourdi. Nous descendons ce glacier fantastique et je me dis que j’aimerais y passer du temps. Là il manque du temps. A peine arrivés nous devons nous dépêcher de trouver une ligne à descendre pour le film. L’énorme mur qui se dresse devant nous est trop complexe, rempli de corniches et de crevasses. Je n’aime pas ça. Je n’aime pas me précipiter.

Je veux écouter ce que les montagnes ont à me dire.

On pénètre si brusquement dans l’intimité de ces géants.

On passe, on prend, on s’en va. Pardon. Je reviendrai faire mieux.

29 Avril - Le retour de STOKE-MAN Le fat come-back de Thomas sur la dernière descente ! Incroyable.

En Urdu ils ont un mot pour ça : « Zabardast », une expression qui veut dire à peu près la même chose que « wonderful !». Il a taillé la pente glacée en énorme Z enchainés. Son énorme smile est revenu alors que l’expedition touche à sa fin. Il fait beau et chaud, il n’y a que de la joie et du soulagement dans l’air. Avec tout ça on est à la bourre pour le rendez-vous avec les porteurs. Nous tirons nos luges toute la soirée tandis que la pleine Lune se lève. Ce glacier interminable. Ne sachant pas comment retrouver les porteurs au milieu de ce désert de glace, nous poussons le plus bas possible jusqu’au milieu de la nuit, en espérant qu’ils nous repèrent.

29 Avril - 4400 m - 17ème jour d’expédition J’ouvre les yeux. Mes hanches et mes épaules me font mal. Comme chaque matin la vue dépote grave et me fait oublier mes douleurs. Un glacier de cinq kilomètres de large entouré de méga montagnes pointues. Un monstre ! Le monstre BIAFO. 10h30, nous sommes au pied de la face : trois langues magnifiques. Tom et Zak partent à droite avec Hélias, Yannick et moi à gauche. On monte à bon rythme. Cela me fait du bien de me retrouver seul avec Yannick. Je commence à le cerner, il faut pas hésiter à y aller franco avec lui. Je passe devant. Il s’est aperçu que je connaissais mon domaine. Je suis un Taillefer bordel. Nos visions de la montagne sont différentes mais durant cette ascension nous avons trouvé un terrain d’entente.

Au sommet on a une vue imprenable sur la descente des copains. Ca m’a l’air bien raide leur affaire. Hélias est en train d’assurer Tom qui se prépare à droper dans cette rampe de glace à 55°. Ca c’est le Tom que je connais ! Il a retrouvé sa flamme. Vas-y mon Tom-Tom lâche les chevaux ! Mais c’est d’abord à mon tour d’y aller. Je profite de la vue une dernière fois en attendant le drone. Yannick me répète d’y aller doucement. J’ai ma ligne en tête, je suis focus, je l’écoute pas. Je m’élance.

Today we’ve become the fourth group to pass the Skam La on skis.

What a relief, seeing how much of an effort it was! Yannick is really the cowboy of the mountains. We needed three 60m ropes to get to the west face, with the weather quickly deteriorating and a crazy atmosphere. In the middle of the chaos, it was great to think that from that moment on, it was downhill all the way to Askole. Pulling toboggans with gravity on our side would be a great deal easier.

Yannick’s experience really saved us and Hélias is a total machine, he’s by far the strongest member of our group.

Thomas’ last descent was incredible. In Urdu they have a word for it: “Zabardast”, an expression which roughly translates as “wonderful!”

We pull our toboggans all evening. We have no idea how to locate our porters in the middle of this desert of ice.

Thomas’ Diary 27 April – Nearly at Snow Lake The landscape is entirely made up of ice and rock. I’m dumbfounded.

The huge wall standing before us is immensely complex, filled with ledges and cracks. I don’t like hurrying. I want to listen to what the mountains are telling me.

Léo’s Diary 29 April – 4,400 m – 17th day of the expedition Like each morning, the view makes me forget my aches and pains.

At 10.30 a.m. we’re at the base of the face. Tom and Zak set off to their right with Hélias, Yannick and I go left. At the top we have unobstructed views over our friends’ descent. It looks pretty steep to me. I take in the view one last time while waiting for the drone.

30 Avril - La flamme

1er mai - La fin du trek

Qui a allumé cette flamme en nous ? Pourquoi je grimpe ? Pourquoi j’adore l’alpinisme ? Pourquoi je suis fou d’Himalayisme ? Toujours la même question.

Lancinante. Pourquoi la flamme brûle-t-elle toujours ? Pourquoi je suis pas dans mon canap’ avec mes potes ? Pourquoi je suis pas comme tout le monde a essayer de vivre une vie tranquille, posée. Pourquoi je suis obligé de venir me perdre tout au bout de ces montagnes ? L’attrait de l’inconnu ? L’engagement ? Arriver en haut ? Bein ouais, nous y sommes. Voila pourquoi la flamme bûle toujours. Quand je me retrouve sur un sommet je sais ce que je ressens. C’est évident. Je retrouve un moment que je connais et que j’avais oublié. Un moment volé. Putain on a réussi. C’est quand même la classe d’être là. C’est tellement beau. Je me sens tellement bien. A chaque fois ça m’apporte quelque chose de neuf. Je vis les choses dans le réel. Je me sens un homme rempli, et ça bouillonne à l’intérieur de moi. Une putain de bonne sensation.

Putain de glacier infini de merde de rochers bancales de crevasses de bordel de moraine qui n’en fini pas, à marcher toute la journée sous le soleil dans ce désert à la con à monter descendre sur des saloperies de tas de cailloux des jours durants ! Le dernier jour est le plus dur. Les genoux font mal, les pieds broyés au fond des bottes, l’esprit obnubilé par des pensées de douche, de repas, de frites, de coca, de repos surtout. Un lit.

Le rêve. Le dernier kilomètre avalé, nous retrouvons le petit village d’Askole où nous nous étalons dans l’herbe. Les gars nous apportent le thé, des oeufs, des biscuits. Quel bonheur. Re-passer les gorges de la mort en sens inverse ne nous fait plus peur. On l’a fait les gars. On a fait cette putain de boucle ! Il ne peut plus rien nous arriver d’affreux maintenant.

Jérôme’s Diary 1st May – End of the trek The last day is the hardest. My knees hurt, my mind is obsessed by thoughts of my bed!

We finally come to the small village of Askole where we stretch out in the grass. The guys bring us tea, eggs and biscuits. Bliss.

Yannick’s diary 30 April – The flame Who lit this flame in us? Why do I love climbing in the Himalayas? The flame still burns to encourage us to keep aiming for the top.

When I find myself at a peak, I feel something familiar. Bloody hell we’ve done it. I feel so good. Each time it brings me something new.

I feel fulfilled, and my head’s buzzing.

Premier jour à Hawaii, première session sur le fameux spot de Pipeline.

Nous sommes sur le perron de la maison Quiksilver où il est difficile de faire plus près des vagues à moins de planter une tente dans le sable. Je suis accompagné de Koa Rothman, issu d’une famille hawaiienne emblématique, il est l’un des surfeurs les plus respectés à Pipeline et l’un de plus jeunes big wave riders du monde. Nos passions croisées lui pour le snowboard, moi pour le surf nous ont rapprochés, cela fait de lui l’un des personnages principaux du film. »

Here’s our latest arrival! La Folie Douce in Avoriaz at 1800m, is a new place where all generations can have a great time. The Folie Douce concept is geared to all clients, families, the young and not-so-young.

The new chalet is in keeping with what Avoriaz is and has always been: unique and timeless.

Generous by nature, la Petite Cuisine is the chalet’s self-service restaurant offering a selection of simple and tasty meals for healthy appetites. Soak up the unique market-style ambiance where the rich colours and aromas will whet your appetite! Open every day from 1130am - 3pm.

La Fruitière in Avoriaz is a gourmet treat for foodies thanks to its delicious cuisine.

Let yourself be tempted by a wealth of carefully constructed dishes made with fresh products from the Savoie and Switzerland. La Fruitière is open for lunch from 12-3pm.

New! La Fruitière is also open for dinner from 7pm – an intimate ambiance, the best tables for dinner.
