Mission Statement
The mission of the Freeport Park District is to promote the use of recreation in generating an exciting, dynamic quality of life by providing the highest quality facilities and programs to meet the ever-changing needs and interests of individuals of all ages and abilities. The Park District will preserve and protect land and resources for the enrichment of the community and future generations.

Residency Policy
For purposes of registering for a Freeport Park District program, renting a District facility or purchasing a District service at the resident rate, the individual’s primary residence must be within the Freeport Park District boundaries. Any owner of real estate within the boundaries of the Freeport Park District and paying taxes to the Freeport Park District, but residing outside the boundaries of the Park District, shall receive the resident rate, as will his immediate family. Immediate family defined as spouse and/or children residing with property owner. Proof shall be required in the form of property tax bill and photo identification.
Gift Certificates
Freeport Park District gift cards are great for any occasion and can be used towards recreation program registrations, season passes, facility rentals and admissions. Gift cards can be purchased for any denomination and quantity. To purchase a gift card, please visit the Freeport Park District Administration Center or call us at 815-235-6114 ext. 0.
If you need assistance in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, please contact the Freeport Park District Administration Center or state your need when registering for a Freeport Park District program.
Occasionally, Park District staff may videotape, or photograph participants enrolled in programs, classes, events or enjoying park facilities. These photographs are for Park District publications, flyers, brochures and future promotional materials. All photos and videos taken on Park District property are for Park District use and become its sole property.
The Freeport Park District recognizes the need within our community to provide assistance to residents who do not have the financial resources to participate in the fee-based services we provide. Financial Aid is available for Freeport Park District residents who meet the District’s Financial Aid program guidelines. Financial Aid Guidelines and Application are available at the Freeport Park District Administration Center.

Public Nuisance Regulations
The Freeport Park District is committed to operating our parks in a safe and secure manner. A Motor Vehicle which is used in violation of Sound Amplification Systems, Window Obstructed Vision, Curfew Violation, Required Liability Insurance, Underage Possession of Alcoholic Liquor, Unlawful Possession of Drugs, Unlawful Possession of Weapon, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer shall be declared a public nuisance and a threat to public safety.
Freeport Parks Foundation
The Freeport Parks Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created to provide resources beyond conventional public funding to enrich and enhance the Freeport Park District. The Foundation is fully committed to assisting the Freeport Park District reach its full potential in terms of land acquisition, facility enhancement, parks beautification, and programming. Race starts at 9:00 am Oakdale Nature Preserve Park
Take in the spectacular scenery at the Autumn Leaf Run. It’s open to all ages and all skill levels of runners, walkers and nature enthusiasts. The 5K trail winds through diverse terrain, including wide tree-lined trails, moderate hills, prairie areas, bridge crossings and several single-track trail sections. The start and finish lines will be in close proximity and the race will be timed using a chip timing system. All proceeds go to the Freeport Parks Foundation to help fund upcoming projects at Oakdale Nature Preserve Park.

How do you load up on Halloween treats in a fun, totally safe and festive outdoor setting? There’s a trick . . . it’s the Trick-or-Treat Trail! Parents appreciate the one-stop convenience, stroller-friendly walkways, and this safe alternative to trekking up and down streets with costumed children. The trail begins near the carousel and admission is free.
Moms, your special young man 10 years or younger would love to escort you to an evening of dancing, prizes and entertainment at the Masonic Event Center. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Weather permitting, ice skating and hocky are available at the regulation sized, outdoor ice rink located in Read Park adjacent to the Family Aquatic Center. The rink is lighted for nighttime use, and is shared for general skating and ice hockey. When skaters are present, hockey is restricted to the west side of the ice rink.
This popular slope is located next to the Koenig Amphitheater in Krape Park. Patrons are required to follow the posted guidelines. To protect this green space, patrons should not use the sled hill when it is closed.
Enjoy outdoor winter activities that are low impact and cardio pumping. Oakdale Nature Preserve Park and Krape Park are great locations for hiking as well as other winter sports. Please observe trail rules and etiquette.

Learn about Milwaukee’s thriving brewpub scene and taste a variety of different beers on tap! Enjoy ice-cold refreshing samples while you take a behind the scenes tour of daily operations. Participants are individually responsible for purchases of food, drinks, and souvenirs. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed on the bus.
FaLaLa! Enjoy the holiday decorations and shopping in Chicago without the hassle of city driving. We’ll drop you off right in the heart of the Magnificent Mile where you can shop, see the lights and explore unique cuisines. The bus will depart from the Read Park parking lot behind Little Cubs Field. All children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Choose how to spend your day in the Windy City! View the latest domestic and imported vehicles, plus experimental and concept cars at the Chicago Auto Show. Cost includes bus transportation and show entry fee. Not interested in the auto show? The bus will make an additional stop downtown at the Water Tower Place for city exploring. Swim Lessons - Level 1
Introduction to Water Skills - Participants will learn to enter and exit water safely, float on front and back, submerge underwater, exhale underwater, explore swimming on front and back, follow basic water safety rules, and submerge to pick up objects underwater.
All classes will be held at Read Park Family Aquatic Center
Swim Lessons - Level 2
Fundamental Aquatic Skills - Participants will build on skills learned in Level 1 and learn to tread water, explore swimming on side, perform rhythmic breathing, glide on front and back, rollover front to back, and swim on front and back using combined strokes.
Stroke Development - Participants will build on skills learned in Level 2 and learn to jump into deep water, dive from sitting or kneeling position, bob with head fully submerged, perform rotary breathing, survival float, swim front crawl, swim back crawl, perform butterfly kick and body motion, perform HELP and huddle positions, perform reaching assists, and use Check-Call-Care in case of an emergency.
Stroke Improvement - Participants will build upon skills learned in Level 3 and learn to dive from compact or stride position, swim underwater, perform feetfirst surface dive, coordinate butterfly, swim breaststroke, swim elementary backstroke, swim on side using scissors kick, perform open turns on front and back, tread water using sculling arm motions and kick, use safe diving rules, and perform throwing assists.
Stroke Refinement - Participants will build upon skills learned in Level 4 and further refine the front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and elementary backstroke. Participants will also learn to shallow dive and begin swimming, tread water with two different kicks, survival swimming, tuck and pike surface dives, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn, and rescue breathing.

Swimming and Skill Proficiency - Participants will further refine all six strokes to perform them with greater ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over longer distances.
If you are looking for more individualized swim instruction, private swim lessons are available at the Read Park Family Aquatic Center. Private lessons are available for any level of swimmer age 3 and older. Registration for private swim lessons can be done at the Administration Center in Read Park or Read Park Family Aquatic Center.
½ hour lesson - 25 ½ hour lesson (x4) - $75
Designed for parents and tots ages 4 and under. This class will introduce your child to the pool in an interactive and fun atmosphere. Parent is required to be in water with child at all times.
This program is designed for good swimmers who are comfortable in deep water. This two-week course develops strength, flexibility and confidence while learning basic dives off a one-meter springboard. Emphasis is placed on safe diving.
Designed for the non-swimmer, you will be introduced to water safety, survival float, front crawl skills and other basic strokes.
This program is designed for the soon-to-be swimmer who is ready to explore the water without a parent, but not ready to participate in level 1 swim lessons. Classes will be kept to a minimum 1 to 3 instructor/participant ratio.
Freeport Park District is looking for lifeguards to work at the Read Park Family Aquatic Center, May – August. All lifeguards are required to be certified through the American Red Cross. If you are reliable, attentive, and comfortable in the water, we offer opportunities

Join us on the last Wednesday of the month at Tot Time! Bring your littles to the park to make a craft, enjoy playtime, hear stories, play games, and end the program with group parachute fun! Join the Freeport Public Library and the Freeport Park District for a fun-filled hour and don’t forget to bring a water bottle! Please note each date requires a separate registration.

Pickleball is a popular paddle sport that can be enjoyed by all! It combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. The rules are simple, and the game is easy to learn. Meet us at the new pickleball courts in Krape Park. Paddles and balls will be provided.

This exciting instructional class will introduce your child to a different sport every class including soccer, t-ball, tennis, football, volleyball, and golf. Please ask for a schedule with class locations when registering.
Location: Multiple Facilities
This class provides a solid foundation to build skills and understand stance. Instruction includes hand-eye-coordination, racket skills, and stroke production with emphasis on ground strokes, serves, returns, and volleys. Court position, scoring, and singles and doubles are introduced. These classes are noncontinuous. Each class covers beginning fundamentals.

T-ball is one of the Freeport Park District’s most popular instructional programs. The 4-week program will focus on basic fundamentals. Participants will learn hitting, fielding, throwing, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Master Sung Sop An and his black belt staff from the Rockford Academy instruct all classes. The Rockford Academy is World Tae Kwon Do Federation licensed, which means that each student’s belt level will be recognized anywhere in the world.
The Freeport Park District does not require you to purchase any additional equipment to participate in martial art classes. However, if you would like to move up in the rank/belt system additional equipment, uniform, and testing fees will be determined by your instructor. Participation in competitions outside of the class will require additional registration and equipment fees.
Join Master Sung Sop An and his black belt staff for Little Ninjas classes. This program is designed to teach 4 to 12-year olds the important qualities of respect, self-control, and confidence while improving motor skills and coordination. Location: Krape Community Building

Tae Kwon Do teaches children to respect themselves and others based on five principles: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. Studies show that students that participate in martial arts programs often perform better in school.

Tai Chi Chuan is a gentle form of exercise for relaxation. Tai Chi can help reduce stress and physical aches while keeping your system strong. Researchers have found that long-term Tai Chi practice has favorable effects on balance, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. Freeport Park District facilities are very popular for gatherings such as reunions, picnics, weddings and other group functions. Outdoor shelters and picnic areas are available on a first come, first served basis to the general public unless reserved and paid for through the District’s Facility Rental & Reservation process. Stop by the Administration Center or call us at 815-235-6114. Rental fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.
Facility Rental/Reservation Policies
A $100 deposit is required for all indoor facility rentals and is due at time of reservation purchase. Your deposit will be forfeited if you do not return the key, if there is any damage, or if excessive cleanup is required.
Reservations can only be made within each calendar year. A $50 surcharge will be added to your rental fee for all reservations outside the current calendar year up to 1 year in advance. An additional fee of $100 will be charged to groups of 150 or more utilizing a Park District facility.
Non-profit organizations planning to conduct fundraisers on Freeport Park District property must apply for a permit at the Administration Center in Read Park. If the organization is not renting a facility or paying a user fee, the organization will pay a flat rate of $50. Tickets may be issued for violating regulations. Penalties vary. Park fines are determined by violation classifications: (A), (B), (C), and (D). Maximum fine is $500.
• Park Sites shall be open to the public from dawn until dusk, or as posted (Class C).
• Pedestrians and bicyclists always have the right of way over motor vehicles. (B)
• Park patrons may feed the white domesticated ducks in Krape Park. Feeding wild ducks and geese or any other wild animal is prohibited. (D)
• Under no circumstances are temporary signs, balloons or any other items to be pinned, stapled or otherwise attached or placed on any tree, park sign or along the roadway. This action will be considered littering. (C)
• Motor vehicles are restricted to roadways, parking lots or designated parking areas only. Vehicles are not permitted on park walkways or trails at any time. This prohibition includes loading and unloading purposes. (B)
• Fires are only allowed in designated metal fireplaces that are provided by the District. Use of all privately owned grills (gas or charcoal) is not permitted without prior approval from the District. Use of gas grills will require a certificate of insurance from your homeowner insurance carrier naming the Park District as additionally insured. (A)
• Tents, nets or canopy structures are not permitted without prior approval from the Administration Office. (B)
• Picnics and events utilizing third party suppliers (tent rental, caterers, etc.) must be approved by the Park District in advance and may require the purchase of a liability insurance policy naming the Park District as additionally insured for the duration of the event including setup and breakdown dates. The use of all third-party suppliers require at least 30 days advance notice to the event.
• The use of amplified sound (public address systems, radios, boom box, musical instruments) is prohibited unless authorized in writing by the Executive Director. Groups seeking authorization should consider use of the Koenig Amphitheater. (B)
• The use of profane, abusive or loud, boisterous language or conducting oneself in a disorderly manner is prohibited. (A)
• Activities that damage or disturb any natural or man-made feature are prohibited. (A)
• Possession or consumption of alcohol and/or illegal drugs is prohibited. (A)
• The possession or discharge of firearms, fireworks or explosives is prohibited. (A)
• Wading or swimming in all district creeks and ponds is prohibited. (D)
• Minors under 10 years of age shall at all times be under the direct supervision and control of a parent, guardian or responsible adult custodian. The applicant/user is responsible for monitoring the conduct of their guests or invitees. (D)
• All dogs and pets must be on a leash, no longer than 10 feet, at all times. Hitching or tying an animal to a tree, bush or shrub is prohibited. The owner is responsible for the conduct of the animal and shall carry equipment and supplies for removing feces and shall place feces deposited by the dog or pet in an appropriate receptacle Continuously barking dogs and/or animals displaying overly aggressive behavior will not be permitted in any park. (D)
• All waste and trash must be deposited in proper garbage receptacles. (A)
Registration for Park District Programs is Handled on a First-Come, FirstServed Basis . The Importance of Registering Early
Please note that each Freeport Park District program has a registration deadline that is listed in the program description. Registration deadlines are created to allow time for staff to determine if minimum enrollment is met, create schedules, order supplies and equipment, form rosters and organize other resources to ensure a successful program. Registration may not be accepted after the published registration deadline. Many Freeport Park District programs have a maximum capacity and fill up quickly. It is strongly encouraged to register early to guarantee enrollment in a program.
The Freeport Park District reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes.
Refunds for classes and events will be given if requested two weeks or more prior to the program start time (minus a $5 service charge). If a refund request is made within two weeks (14 days) of the start of the class or program, only a partial reimbursement (less a $5 service charge and direct program expenses) will be issued. Refunds for bus trips (minus a $5 service charge) will be issued only for a documented medical emergency or if arrangements are made for someone to fill the opening. Cash refunds will not be issued once the class/program has begun. A Program Refund Request Form must be completed and submitted to the Park District Administration Center before a refund will be issued.
The Freeport Park District provides year-round opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate with their peers without disabilities in recreational programs. Inclusion opportunities are available to individuals of all ability levels and ages. If you or a family member would like to enroll in a Park District program and need assistance, simply request additional services at the time you register. The request will be reviewed and the appropriate assistance determined. The Recreation Supervisor will monitor progress throughout the program by staying in direct contact with the individual or caregiver. The sooner we have the information about your request, the better chances are for a successful inclusion experience. Please provide at least two weeks notice prior to the start of the program date for an inclusion request. The Freeport Park District does not provide transportation to and from programs, however, the Pretzel City Transit currently provides transportation 6:00 am through midnight Monday through Friday, and 6:00 am through 1:00 pm on Saturdays. All rides provided by Pretzel City Transit are demand response rides. In other words, there is no fixed route. Those needing a ride can call dispatch at 815-235-RIDE the day before to schedule a pick-up.
All participants attending Freeport Park District activities or using Freeport Park District facilities are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been created in order to maintain a safe, enjoyable environment for all participants. Additional rules and guidelines may vary for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff.
• Show respect to all participants, staff, and volunteers.
• Follow program rules and take direction from recreation staff.
• Refrain from using abusive or foul language.
• Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self or others.
• Show respect for property, including equipment, supplies, and facilities.
• Not be in possession of weapons.
Recreation Staff Will Attempt to Resolve the Problem Using the Following Conduct Model:
• First offense – verbal warning.
• Second offense – time-out of activity and discussion with supervisor.
• Third offense – suspension of activity/ facility privileges, removal from activity/facility for remainder of the day.
If a participant continues to refuse following directions of recreation staff or if the incident is an emergency, Police will be called and the participant may face further disciplinary action. The Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant whose behavior endangers his or her own safety or the safety of others.
