Feeling Froggie
Ages 5+ years
Bullfrogs bellowing, Cricket Frogs clicking, Fowler’s Toads wailing, and more, on this “froggin” good adventure. We’ll use nets to scoop up some of the frogs that call Motts Run home and then stroll the shores, listening to the symphony of the night! Just bring a flashlight and wear boots or shoes you can get muddy. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration closes Sunday, August 20. Location: Motts Run Reservoir.

ONE FISH, TWO FISH
Ages 5+
Interested in fishing but don’t know where to start? Join staff at Motts Run Reservoir for an opportunity to learn to fish. You’ll pick up some tips and tricks, play a fun game, and try to catch a few fish. Bring your own rod and reel or borrow one of ours. Participants 16 years and older are required to possess a current VA Freshwater Fishing License. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration closes Wednesday, September 13. Location: Motts Run Reservoir.

Log Cabin Storytime
Ages 2+
Bring your favorite stuffy and adult to snuggle up with as we enjoy nature stories in our log cabin Nature Center at Motts Run Reservoir. We will gather in our cozy reading corner and enjoy a few stories together. After reading, we will do a nature craft related to the story. We will finish outside for some nature play time! All children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration closes the Wednesday before each program. Location: Motts Run Nature Center.

Insect Detectives
Ages 3+
Come on a hunt to scout out our local insects! We will explore the park with bug boxes and magnifying glasses to discover and catch insects. Once we return from exploring, we will work together to identify and classify the creatures in our bug boxes. Can you catch them all? All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration closes Wednesday, September 20. Location: Memorial Park.

Downtown Tree Trek
Ages 6+
Ever wonder where the largest, most noteworthy trees are downtown? Then this urban hike is for you! Join a naturalist as we scour the city on a search to find the oldest and biggest trees in downtown Fredericksburg. We’ll age the trees together and imagine what the city’s landscape looked like when they were just saplings. Please dress for the activity and weather and bring water. This walk may be up to 3 miles. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration closes Wednesday, October 18. Location: Riverfront Park.

Pumpkin Palooza
Ages 3+
Did you know that there are hundreds of kinds of pumpkins? Come explore different varieties of pumpkins and all their parts! We will cut open pumpkins and explore their similarities and differences. The workshop will end with a craft related to these antioxidant powerhouses of a plant! Participants will get a pumpkin to take home with them. All should dress prepared to get a little messy! All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration closes Wednesday, October 25. Location: Motts Run Nature Center.
