“As a small but mighty nonprofit lender, Exodus Lending relies on our pro bono partnership with Fredrikson’s Caitlin Houlton Kuntz and Doug Hiatt to help us navigate the federal and state regulatory environment and ensure our work is not only in compliance but is operating in a fair and transparent manner for those financially underserved borrowers. This has taken the form of reviewing and revising our loan documents, drafting cross-organizational partnership agreements, and educating our team on third-party risk management, federal and state compliance laws, and regulations that apply to our day-to-day work. This partnership allows us to operate with the same legitimacy of a large regulated bank or credit union and, in turn, attracts continued investment in our work that will allow future growth! As the Executive Director leading this work, I feel like I can always reach out to Caitlin and Doug when developing new lending programs and partnerships or to understand the risks and rewards of any changes we make. A huge thank you to Fredrikson for operating this pro bono program that allows us to serve financially excluded and extracted communities with our small dollar consumer lending!”
