League of Women Voters

/// Devin Driscoll, Sarah Theisen, Rachel Dougherty

Devin Driscoll and Sarah Theisen were joined by Rachel Dougherty on another important amicus this year. In collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota, Anoka County Attorney’s office, the Minnesota Attorney General’s office, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP and the University of Wisconsin Law School, Fredrikson filed an amicus brief on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Minnesota (LWVMN) to challenge an improper quo warranto action filed by the appellants. The appellants requested that the court reverse their recent decision in Schroeder invalidating the “Restore the Vote” legislation, which addresses the voting rights of individuals convicted of felony-level offenses. It is estimated that the “Restore the Vote” legislation could restore voting rights to about 55,000 people. On August 7, 2024, the Minnesota Supreme Court unanimously dismissed the lawsuit challenging the “Restore the Vote” legislation.

LWVMN was proud to file an amicus brief in this case, and thanks the pro bono legal team of Devin Driscoll, Rachel Dougherty, and Sarah Theisen, of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A., Minneapolis, Minnesota, for their support.”
