Our food tastes are a little eclectic. However, what all of these dishes have in common is they leave you feeling satisfied, warm and cozy. Most of these eateries offer take-out food and delivery as well as dine-in food service.

Crabs Cakes from Carriage House Inn in Emmitsburg CARRIAGE HOUSE The Carriage House Inn is an elegant restaurant that just makes you feel welcome the moment you walk through the columned entryway. Located in Emmitsburg, a 30-minute drive north from Frederick, the Carriage House Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Place. The dining room features a wood-burning fireplace as well as soft lighting and crisp, white tablecloths.

However, as romantic and charming as the atmosphere is at the Carriage House, it’s the food, especially the crab cakes, that keeps us coming back time and again. In a state that certainly knows something about crab cakes, these excel. They are loaded with crab and as little filler as possible, sautéed until they

Fried Chicken from Watson’s in Jefferson The fried chicken at Watson’s makes you think that you’re back in your grandmother’s kitchen. Located in Jefferson, southwest of Frederick, Watson’s offers chicken dinners that come complete with two sides and cornbread as well as buckets of chicken and chicken by the piece.

The coating is crispy with just a hint of spice and chicken is tender and cooked perfectly. Sides include creamy coleslaw, house-made macaroni salad, country style green beans, baked beans (another house recipe) and sweet potato fries. If a chicken dinner from Watson’s won’t comfort you, we don’t know what will.

Cream of Crab Soup from Wilcom’s Inn in Monrovia We also like the cream of crab soup at Wilcom’s Inn, an international steakhouse and wine bar that’s a 20 minute drive from Downtown Frederick. If you’re a wine lover, you’ll appreciate that they are the only Wine Spectator Award of Excellence recipient in Frederick County. Their wine list includes over 100 wines - both “Old World” and “New World” wines. The cuisine offered is a combination of the chef’s Peruvian heritage and Italian culinary training.

Housemade Beef Chili at Pretzel & Pizza Creations in Frederick Nothing says cozy like a warm bowl of chili. Pretzel & Pizza Creations is a known hot spot for delicious pizza, but their chili is what captures our hearts.

You can order a cup if you’re looking for a tasty appetizer or a bowl to make a meal of it. Pro tip: Order a salted pretzel and dip each bite in the chili.

Chicken Karage Ramen at Tsunami in Downtown Frederick

Perhaps chicken noodle soup is what you consider comfort food. This would be considered a modern take on an American classic. Any of the bowls at Tsunami are going to warm you up on a cold winter day, but the Chicken Karage Ramen is our favorite. The little bites of fried chicken (served in a separate container so they don’t get too soggy), the noodles, and the veggies combine to make your mouth happy. You’ll be surprised that you were able to finish the whole thing.
