Winter/ Spring 2021 Serving VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY JOB DESCRIPTIONS
EVERYONE MATTERS, EVERYONE MINISTERS. At Frazer, we believe that, as followers of Jesus, God has given every one of us gifts, abilities, experiences, and passions that motivate and equip us to serve others. We experience joy and purpose as we discover those gifts and put them into use for the Kingdom of God. In this booklet, you will find some of the many ways to serve God through Frazer. We encourage you to prayerfully read through them to discover where the Holy Spirit may be calling you to get connected. Two important notes about this booklet: 1. These opportunities are for the Winter/Spring semester (January–May 2021). More opportunities will be shared later for the Summer months and the Fall Semester. 2. Many of the ways we have served in the past have been put on pause due to the pandemic. We will continue to monitor this situation and communicate when areas of service reopen, but in the meantime, we encourage you to find new ways to serve. How to take the next step: ❏ We will have a Commitment Sunday on Jan. 24, 2021. You can turn in a volunteer sign-up card at that time in person or through the Frazer App. Our ministry leaders will then follow up with you to provide training and plan out serving assignments. ❏ You can also sign up to serve at any time by reaching out to the ministry contacts listed for each opportunity in this booklet. ❏ If you have general questions about the Frazer serving process or need help finding your place to serve, contact our Volunteer Connection Coordinator, Teri Brown, at teri@frazerumc.org.
I. CORE WORSHIP & DISCIPLESHIP PROGRAMS A. SUNDAYS HOSPITALITY Parking Usher: Welcome guests and members onto the campus and direct the flow of traffic safely. Two hours, one Sunday per month. Contact: Ron Rein, rrein@frazerumc.org. Guest Greeter/Usher: Welcome guests and members at the entrances and assist with temperature checks and masks, and/or serve as an usher to hand out bulletins, welcome worshipers direct them to available seating, and assist with offerings, communion, and other worship moments. WORSHIP & MUSIC Worship Prayer Team: Also known as “Hedge Prayer” and “Altar Call Prayer” teams. Pray during one of our Sunday morning services (8, 9:30 or 11am). Choose from two options: Praying behind the scenes in the prayer room, or being available during the service and immediately afterwards for prayer with individuals. One hour, one Sunday per month. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@ frazerumc.org. Sanctuary Choir Member: Attend weekly rehearsal (Wednesday 7–8:30pm) and be available to sing during 9:30am worship and at special events. Sanctuary Orchestra Member: Attend weekly rehearsal (Wednesday 7:00–8:30pm) and be available to play during 9:30am worship and at special events. Note: Due

Handbell Choir Ringer: Play in the sanctuary hand bell choir periodically at the 9:30am worship service. Rehearse Mondays at 6pm. Interview with director required. TV Production Crew: Facilitate sharing our worship services with the world through television and online streaming by operating a camera or video graphics. GROUPS Bible Study Class Teacher: Teach a Bible-based lesson and provide leadership for an adult class at 8, 9:30, or 11am Sunday mornings throughout the year. Training and leadership covenant required. Contact: Kelly Slover, kslover@ frazerumc.org. Bible Study Class Officer: Coordinate prayer/care, social activities/ events, missions and other various duties for an adult class. GROUPS Small Group Leader: Facilitate group discussions using video teachings and/or other Bible-based resources and foster an environment for building faith-affirming relationships within a small group (typically 3-12 adults). One-two hours a week. Children and Student programming is available for groups that meet Wednesday nights, but groups may also meet at other times during the week. Groups may meet in person, online, or hybrid. Sign up now for the Winter/Spring session (Jan.–May) or let us know of your interest for the Summer or Fall sessions. II. MINISTRY AREAS MEN Men’s Special Events: Serve as part of a team of men known as “Lion Chasers” who make themselves available to help as needed with setup, cleanup, parking ushering, and other duties as needed for special events and projects. Widows/Widowers Handyman: Help with small jobs or errands for an assigned widow or widower. As needed, typically check in to assess needs monthly. WOMEN
Half-time Witness: Share a 5 minute inspirational devotional with parents and players at one of our Sonshine Soccer games. One or more Saturday mornings in April & May. Contact: Craig McKissick, craig@frazerumc.org.
Women’s Special Events: Take part in planning and implementing women’s events throughout the year. Decorating, set-up, clean-up, food planning/prep, ticket sales, promotion. As needed throughout the year, two–eight hours. Contact: Susan Fisher, susan@frazerumc.org.
MEDIA
Widow Encouragement: Write notes, make phone calls, and assist with one-two events per year to encourage and support the widows in our church family. Flexible, as needed, two-three hours per month. Contact: Susan Fisher, susan@ frazerumc.org.
Photographer: Take photos of worship services, ministry programs or special events, using your own equipment, to be shared on Frazer Media. Background check required for events/programs in Children’s or Student Ministry. One Sunday per month or as assigned. Contact: Ken Roach, ken@frazerumc.org.
STUDENTS
BUILDING
Special Events: Assist as needed throughout the year to help with various trips and events including but not limited to DNOW (Feb. 12-14), Mission Montgomery and our Guys/Girls Nights. Background check required. Contact: Tyler Grant, tgrant@frazerumc.org.
Safety Team: Perform a building safety check in specific areas of the church. Two hours monthly. Contact: Bob Wood, bob@frazerumc.org.
SPORTS Soccer Coach: Coach a team of boys or girls, K5-6th grade. Training provided; expert knowledge of soccer not required. One hour a week practice and one hour per week game. Background check required. Practice either Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings and games on Saturday mornings in April & May.
Maintenance Helper: Perform light maintenance around the church as assigned. Half a day, once or twice a month. Contact: Jerry Robinson, jrobinson@frazerumc.org. Worship Center Care & Decoration: Assist with preparing and beautifying worship centers weekly and/or for Holy Week/Easter. Contact: Bob Wood, bob@frazerumc.org.
Ministry Areas
CARE Homebound Visitation: Listen, love, and pray with an elderly person who is homebound or in an assisted living/nursing facility. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@frazerumc.org. Care Calls: Make phone calls from home or the church to those who have missed worship for several weeks and let them know they are missed and give words of support. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@ frazerumc.org. Visits with Pets: Known as the PAWS Ministry. Share your love of animals a couple of hours each month by taking your friendly pet to visit people who are sick or homebound as a means of emotional support. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@ frazerumc.org. Funeral Support: Known as the “Joseph Ministry.” Serve our grieving families during visitation or a funeral service when it is held at Frazer. Choose to serve as: a greeter to welcome and guide guests around our church campus the day of the service; serve during Visitation; or hand out printed programs prior to the funeral service. Cancer Care: Known as “Our Journey of Hope Ministry.” Be trained to give support to cancer patients and their caregivers in one-on-one and
group settings. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@frazerumc.org. Sewing for Preemies: Known as the “Threads of Love” Ministry. Sew clothing from home on your own schedule for premature infants and provide encouragement to their families. Patterns are provided for cutting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting to make gowns, blankets, bonnets, and booties. Contact: Neil Epler, neil@frazerumc.org.
PRAYER Ministry Prayer Team: Support an assigned ministry area of Frazer with prayer on a weekly basis on your own schedule. Contact: B.J. Nave, rnave@frazerumc.org. Personal Prayer Team: Respond to prayer requests submitted online or by phone. Pray on a weekly basis on your own schedule. Contact: B.J. Nave, rnave@frazerumc.org. National Day of Prayer: Plan and carry out Frazer’s participation in the NDOP on May 6, 2021.
OUTREACH Outreach Events Team: Assist with planning and carryout out special events to reach guests and help them connect with the church. Needs include Night of Worship (Mar. 7), Holy Week Events (Mar. 28–Apr. 4), and Teaching Seminars (Feb. 6, Feb. 20, and Mar. 6). Contact: Johnathan Williams, jwilliams@frazerumc.org.
III. MISSION AREAS CONNECTING AT-RISK CHILDREN TO FAMILIES Foster Care Provider: Be trained by DHR to become an approved foster care provider. In addition to DHR training, Frazer works to create a community of like-minded foster parents and supporters to uphold you in the difficult but rewarding journey of fostering. Foster Care Support: In partnership with Promise686 ministries, provide direct care, prayer and encouragement to Montgomery County foster families by creating “care communities” who live out God’s promise in Psalms 68:6 to “Place the lonely in families.” Contact: Elizabeth Drollette, edrollette@frazerumc.org. Transformation Montgomery Children’s Ministry: Work with children from the TM Preschool, Chisholm Elementary School, and within the Garden Square community through one or more of our weekly programs: Terrific Tuesday After School Program (3–5pm) and Good News Club (Mondays 3:15-4:30pm). ENDING FOOD INSECURITY Backpack Ministry Helper: Shopping, packing and delivery of food to children in the community at risk
of food insecurity through backpacks of food taken home for the weekend. One-two hours per week on Wednesday or Thursday during the school year. Contact: Robin VanderMey, robin@frazerumc.org. Food Pantry Assistant: Assist with sorting and stocking food donations for our ministry to those experiencing a food crisis. First Sunday of each month, 30–60 minutes. Meals on Wheels Delivery: Work with MACOA (Montgomery Area Council on Aging) to deliver hot meals to a homebound senior at risk of food insecurity on one of three Frazer routes. BREAKING CYCLES OF POVERTY Transformation Montgomery Home Renovation: Assist with renovating properties in the Garden Square neighborhood of North Montgomery. Completed properties are offered to qualified families as part of a long-term strategy to provide pathways out of generational poverty through affordable housing and community transformation. Transformation Montgomery Adult Ministry: Assist with various adult ministry programs including financial coaching, health and wellness classes at Transformation Montgomery in North Montgomery. The mission of TM is to transform lives one person, one family, and one neighborhood at a time through affordable housing, holistic life skills training and relational community renewal. SUPPORTING HEALTH FOR ALL
Homeless Care: Show God’s love in practical ways to people who are currently homeless. Assist with monthly outreach on fourth Saturday mornings, and/or monthly assembly of Personal Care Kits on weekday evening TBD, 5:306:00pm. Contact: Robin VanderMey, robin@frazerumc.org. *Special Leadership Need: Frazer is currently seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for our Homeless Care ministry. If you sense a possible calling from God to serve the homeless and you are willing to explore a leadership role in this ministry, contact Cody Hager, Minister of Missions, chager@frazerumc.org. Financial Coach: Work one on one to help others understand and implement a household budget. Several meetings may be needed with a client at mutually agreed upon times. Financial coaching is a key part of Frazer’s strategy to go beyond crisis care for those

Medical Outreach Helper: Assist with medical or administrative work serving the uninsured or medically underserved at the Medical Outreach Ministries Clinic, 5741 Carmichael Parkway. IV. SERVING FROM HOME Note: These options are offered for those who desire to serve but who are minimizing contact outside the home due to the pandemic. Virtual Worship Host: Participate in live streaming worship on Facebook or frazer.church/live, greet other online worshipers, encourage engagement, and alert Media staff to any problems with streaming quality.
