A beginner’s guide For those that have never booked a yacht charter before you may have many questions about the booking process, the costs and what the crew do. Below is a quick guide to help make your first charter experience smooth sailing.

PREPAR ATION

We advise booking your charter several months in advance to be sure of getting your preferred yacht and dates, especially for larger yachts; some of the most popular yachts can be fully booked up to a year in advance.

There is an abundance of destinations to choose from, charter yachts can be found in almost any ocean these days. Facilities ashore may vary but the yacht will always provide exceptional service and the crew will help to create unforgettable experiences, whether you’re cruising around the Aegean islands or breaking ice in the Antarctic.

However not all yachts are available to US residents while in US waters.

Most modern motor and sailing yachts are equipped with the very latest technology and communications equipment including cellular and global satellite telecommunications so you can stay in touch wherever you sail.

A standard yacht charter is normally seven full days, so if you board at 3pm on a Saturday you can stay until 3pm the following Saturday. Charterers may choose to book the yacht for a longer or shorter period, although some yachts will not accept shorter bookings during the peak season.

FINANCIALS

You will be asked to fill out a preference sheet, a very detailed questionnaire that will allow the Captain and his crew to prepare everything on board to suit your requirements; from arrival and departure times, to food and drink preferences, what you like to read and where you want to go, everything will be ready for your arrival, as if you’re arriving home from home.

ON BOARD

The professional crew will offer you top-class personal service around the clock. Besides your Captain there will be a world class Chef and a Chief Steward or Stewardess, as well as many other crew ensuring that everything for

The high week rate is normally for July and August, plus special events such as the Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, Christmas and New Year holidays. The low rate is normally used at all other times.

The charter price includes the cost of chartering the yacht, the crew and the yacht’s insurance. However items such as fuel, dockage, food and beverages are paid separately through the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA). This is normally estimated at an extra 20-30% of the charter rate. All expenses are accounted for by the Captain and if there are any unused funds at the end of the charter they are returned to the charterer.

RISE AND SHINE

Wake up from a peaceful sleep in a new beautiful anchorage and head straight outside into the warm sunshine, guests can choose between an early morning swim, yoga on the aft deck or catching up with the day’s news via the yacht’s high speed WI-FI. When you are ready, breakfast will be served on the sun deck.

Fresh fruit, homemade pastries, juice, or even a full English fry up – whatever takes your fancy, the Chef can prepare.

After a fun packed morning it’s time to relax and take in some sun on the sundeck, Jacuzzi or enjoy some quiet time with a good book. Or, for those that want to explore why not head ashore to take in the local sights, go shopping, or just to have a stroll.

SPLASH TIME

The crew will always have the watersports equipment ready and raring to go for you. Dive into the crystal blue sea with a Seabob and explore the hidden world below, test your abilities on water-skis, try out the latest hover or flyboard, race around the yacht and local coast line on a jet-ski, or simply float the morning away in an aqua lounge… the choice is yours. The crew will be waiting to assist and give expert guidance or simply a fresh towel whenever needed.

SUNDOWNERS

Enjoy cocktails on the sundeck whilst watching the sun go down. Then choose between dinner on board or jumping on the tender to go ashore and try out a local restaurant.

Alternatively, you could even ask the Chef and crew to prepare you a private dinner on the beach under the stars… Anything is possible!

AFTER DARK

Take in a show, club or casino ashore. The crew will take care of any reservations, so you can just simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Later… once everyone is safely back on board, the yacht will quietly cruise to your next destination while you drift off into a much needed sleep on the luxurious king size bed.

LUNCH IS SERVED

Your favourite foods will have been relayed to the Chef in advance, so that they can prepare you a magnificent feast, served by the highly experienced crew. Whether you want to have a light lunch of fresh fish caught by the crew that morning, a bbq on the sundeck or a taste of exquisite cuisine from the other side of the world, the Chef will be able to prepare it for you taking into account all dietary requirements.

PARTY TIME

Yacht charters are not just about relaxing with friends and family, they can also offer the perfect opportunity to celebrate an important event. The Captain will then create a more detailed itinerary, finalising his recommendations of which restaurants to try, which bays to visit and when to move between locations to optimise your time at each destination. While the Chef and chief stewardess will be preparing everything you need based on the all-important preference sheet that you will have completed.

Once you actually step on board the yacht you will experience the world’s best service first hand. Whether you prefer the crew to remain discreet and in the background or to get involved and take you on a magical mystery tour of the local sites they will do whatever is needed to ensure that you have the most enjoyable stay and never want to leave.

I love to create incredibly artistic creations that trick the eye, often making dishes look savoury when they are sweet and vice versa. I’ve trained in worldclass hotels and various Michelin Star classes as I’m always looking for new inspiration.

I love to astound guests and watch their surprise when they discover the real flavour of what I have created.

JONATHAN MACLEAN, ANDIAMO!

TIZIANO NASTRI, HERE COMES THE SUN

My main focus and culinary drive comes from Caribbean – Asian Fusion cooking.

I love the freshness of the ingredients and utilisation of different techniques throughout the countries found in these regions where I grew up (Caribbean) and have travelled extensively (Asia).

One dish that I really like to make is a potato wrapped grouper with green papaya and mango salad and Tamarind habanero sauce. The exquisite fusion of sweet and savoury flavours delights guests every time.

My style of cooking has a prominent south Mediterranean influence, while still infusing other culinary cultures.

I tend to feature one ingredient in each dish, which allows for a unique and heightened flavour experience. I love to cook seafood, such as octopus in a Galician style or stuffed calamari with herbs, roasted peppers and parmesan.

DANIEL CARTWRIGHT, LAUREL

On LAUREL we make all our own breads on board, every day; I started a sour dough starter several years ago from apples and raisins and from this we make JEROME TRICOCHE, BACCHUS our selection of breads every morning.

One of my favourite things to make for The selection depends on what guests guests is a blown sugar apple. Guests on board would like, from whole wheat, are often a little confused when they are served with what looks like a green rye breads, French style baguettes, ciabattas, focaccia’s and of course we apple for dessert, but then they are amazed when they realise that the apple also make gluten free breads as well.

There’s something about the smell of has been made out of sugar that has freshly baked breads that often brings been blown as thin as glass and filled with a light espuma and crumble with guests into the galley and then it’s a perfect time to chat with them about chocolate caviar. Relaxed luxe Sophisticated nightlife & tranquil bays There is more to the brilliant bling of the Balearics than meets the eye, including some of the best party spots in the Mediterranean and the allure of secluded coves with sangria and paella served on deck.

Board in Port Adriano in Mallorca, then head to Sa Calobra and anchor in this quiet inlet with amazing views. Head to Sa Fordada and admire the incredible sea arch opposite the Tramuntana cliffs then go ashore for paella at the famous Sa Fordada restaurant.

Heartfelt thanks It is time once again to thank all of the people that have helped make this publication possible. It is always an enormous task pulling this book together to a very tight deadline but a challenge that we always enjoy, especially when we see the end result.
