Shopping Little Growling Café is already popular with locals and, in time, you will be able to easily pop to the shops or access a range of services at The Grove’s future town and community centres. Until then you have Tarneit West Village, Tarneit Gardens, Tarneit Central and Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre with Myer, cafés, restaurants and a Village Cinema.

Job prospects From The Grove, you can easily commute to the CBD by car. Alternatively drive to Tarneit Station to catch the train to either Southern Cross Station or Geelong. There’s also a bus to Hoppers Crossing Station on the Werribee line. Down the track, the proposed Werribee Employment District is expected to provide 58,000 jobs*.

Because we are all drawn to the water‌ The Werribee River starts in the Great Dividing Range and flows some 110 kilometres to Port Phillip Bay. Closer to home, this wondrous water system irrigates the market gardens of Bacchus Marsh. It provides a water hole of sorts for the hippos and other wildlife at the Werribee Open Range Zoo. Then offers lots of leisure opportunities right along its banks.

Go Fishing
There are many walking and cycling paths along the Werribee River. Popular access points are via Werribee’s Watton Street (through Chirnside and Wyndham Parks). Another option is to enter through Riverbend Historical Park. Or, if you prefer, follow New Farm Road to Werribee River Park. Of course, with so many choices, you can always mix it up to make the most of this local treasure.
Cast a line to catch Tench, Brown Trout or River Blackfish. Then again, being a spectator may be more to your liking. Tiny Australian Smelt dart about in schools of around a thousand. Look for them near the surface, especially where there are aquatic plants or floating wooden debris.
Canoe or Kayak Launch off at the Werribee South Boat Ramp or at Riverbend Historical Park. Not only is it a low impact way to exercise, seeing the river from this angle also gives you a different perspective.
Spot a bird or two More than 190 bird species inhabit this water wonderland. But be sure to raise your sights up as high as the clifftops. If you do you might even spy a Wedge-Tailed Eagle or a Peregrine Falcon.
Be inspired Along the banks there are many vantage points to lay a picnic rug or simply lose yourself in the views. For artists, photographers or nature lovers, every visit presents yet another picture-perfect moment.

Meet the neighbours The Werribee River and one of its tributaries, Davis Creek, that both border The Grove, are home to an abundance of native flora and fauna. Recent sightings and surveys even suggest the presence of some threatened and endangered species. So keep an eye out on your walks and you may be lucky enough to spot one.

This much loved and protected mammal is seen on our 20-cent coin but sadly sightings elsewhere are becoming less often. So it’s good to know that the platypus can still be found up and down the Werribee River.
This frog is one of Victoria’s most endangered species but has very happily been found in the preservation area between The Grove and Werribee River. Now, by adding a vast wetlands as part of The Grove’s plans, this community is helping to save this rare amphibian.
The female lays between two and ten eggs on the banks, a few times a year. But because they can take up to five months to hatch, they often fall prey to birds. That’s what makes sightings of these slow movers even more special.
On those weekend strolls, you might even get to see a small Swamp Wallaby. A loss of habitat is adversely affecting numbers, so it’s wonderful that there is enough thick growth on the banks for this very shy marsupial to hide in.
