NEIGHBOURHOOD NEWS

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

5,000sqm park well underway Over Winter we saw the construction of Parkview Releases 1, 2 and 3, and The Outlook release completed, with residents now starting their builds.

Brookhaven’s newest recreation area, Discovery Park, is also now well under construction. Discovery Park is located within the Parkview releases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Discovery Park is over 5,000sqm in size and part of a wider 1.6 hectare open space precinct which includes waterway areas and surrounding multi-use trails. Residents will be able to sit back and relax in leafy surrounds while kids enjoy the playground equipment featuring a slide, rope play, basket swing and a climbing wall all protected by shade sails.

We are also working on new multi-use trails near Discovery Park that are due to be completed in the near future. The construction of Hillside Release 3 is now well underway with these works including a new intersection connecting to Prangley Road with expected completion in the first half of 2020. Please note, later this year there will be some traffic distribution due to the Prangley Road works. Updates will be communicated via Facebook and letterbox drops within the community. Construction will also be commencing very shortly on additional future releases.

“Over the Spring season we will be planting over 11,000 new plants and trees in Discovery Park. We are also planting and revegetating the wider waterway area surrounding the park with an additional 25,000 plants as part of current and future works.” - Richard Sefton, Development Director

Ninja Warrior How did you get into Ninja Warrior?

Does diet play a big part in your life?

I have been watching the show for years! Back when it was just in Japan called Sasuke, then American Ninja Warrior and now Australian Ninja Warrior! I was doing elite obstacle racing but decided I didn’t want to run long distance anymore but, I love the challenge and the obstacles, so I moved to training Ninja Warrior.

For myself, being young my metabolism is still very fast, and I am constantly moving around with training. I also work in construction so I don’t go crazy on my diet. However, I still do eat healthy.

How do you train for Ninja Warrior?

What do you do when you’re not training?

Ninja Warrior is a mix of many disciplines! I mainly do Ninja-specific training such as practicing obstacles from the show, lots of grip strength, rock climbing, body weight calisthenics and gymnastics!

Tod Smith with his wife Mikkayla

What’s your favourite cheat meal? McDonalds, love it.

Generally busy at work or at home with my wife relaxing or watching other countries’ Ninja Warrior, haha!

How often do you train?

Do you think Ninja Warrior will make it to the Olympics?

I train twice a week at the Ninja Gym and workout twice a week in the backyard. On weekends I usually have a Ninja competition or more training.

Yes! Speed climbing has just become an Olympic sport so I believe one day Ninja can make it, and I will definitely be trying to get that gold!

What was your favourite obstacle in this years’ Ninja Warrior?

Where can Brookhaven residents go to learn or train for Ninja Warrior?

The salmon ladder, which is unfortunately the one I made a little mistake on and took me out of the show!

With Ninja, everywhere is a place to train. I train at a rock climbing gym called Crank Indoor Rock Climbing. But I would recommend building upper body strength through chin-ups on a bar, as well as learning to build a big powerful swing!

Will you compete again next season? Yes, I will be submitting my application for season 4. I know I have the ability to go all the way and become Australia’s first Ninja Warrior to claim total victory! Definitely not the end of Ninja!

How long have you been living in Brookhaven? My wife and I have been living in The Enclave since July 2019.

What do you love about living in Brookhaven? Everyone in the Brookhaven community is so nice and it’s a great estate to enjoy walking or running around. INSTAGRAM @ninja_toddles96

Brookhaven Bean Cafe

Why did you decide to run the Brookhaven Bean Café? We saw the opportunity to start a new business so close to our future home. We embraced the idea of working alongside such a great and encouraging team.

What attracted your family to buying in Brookhaven? There were four main things: 1. The cost for the quality was a huge selling point. 2. The green environment and surroundings and the tranquillity of the estate. 3. The sense of community that Frasers Property was encouraging and developing. 4. A genuine approach by the salespeople.

What do you love about your job? Everyone has told me that if you love your job, it feels like you have never worked a day in your life! I honestly love what I do! Plus to make people feel like a million dollars after leaving my salon just warms my heart.

How long have you been working in your salon at Brookhaven? Four fabulous months. We built our home with the salon in mind and love how it has come to life.

What services do you offer? All colouring and style cuts for men and women, blowdrys, keratin treatments, permanent straightening, perms plus facial waxing and tinting.

THE BEE SERIES

What is your background in the café business? Our family has 25 years’ experience running cafés in Brisbane. From the age of 16, my father Ennio immersed himself in the hospitality industry by moving from a small town in Northern Italy to Germany to start his hotel schooling. From there he worked throughout Europe, Asia and Australia before settling down in Brisbane and opening his first (family-run) café alongside my mum Gloria, and myself. I worked for ten years in Florence in the industry and recently married a chef. Hospitality is in our blood.

What is on the menu? Di Bella Coffee, specifically the Felici blend. As well as simple, fresh, but delicious humble food offerings such as gourmet sandwiches and home baked goods.

What are your plans for the Café down the track? We love seeing it grow and meeting new neighbours from the estate, as well as the wider community. We hope to continue serving delicious coffee and food, while creating a beautiful homely atmosphere for our customers. We would love to expand our catering business in the future.

What do you enjoy most about the Brookhaven community? The neighbourhood feel. Everyone working together towards a common goal of a beautiful, clean and safe family neighbourhood. INSTAGRAM @Brookhavenbean

How did you get into the hairdressing industry? I began my career with an apprenticeship in a little salon in Newcastle and fell in love with the industry. Fifteen years later, after managing other people’s salons, my dream of opening my own business, LJ’s Hair Haven, has become a reality.

How are you enjoying working and living in Brookhaven? The family-friendly lifestyle here is fantastic! We have been overwhelmed with how lovely everyone has been to us, not just as a little business, but also as residents. The support and kindness from everyone within the Brookhaven community is heart-warming.

Laura Jetson

LJs Hair Haven Do you plan to branch out your services to more than just hair? While I do offer facial waxing and tinting, I am passionate about good hair, so my salon is mainly focused around haircuts, colours and treatments.
