Community Project

Who is responsible for delivery?

Status as at 12 September 2022

Government Primary School

Victorian Government (Department of Education and Training Victoria/ Victorian School Building Authority)

We are in final stages of negotiating the sale of the school site to the State Government. The neighbouring school, Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary School, has also recently advised that they are expanding due to demand and are currently oversubscribed for admissions in 2023. We are progressing as quickly as possible.

Community Centre

Mitchell Shire Council

The masterplan of Phase Two of the project – south of the Taylors Creek – has been designed to incorporate a Council-run Community Activity Centre adjoining the proposed school site. We are currently in discussions with Mitchell Shire Council over a prospective purchase of the proposed site.

Proposed Retail/ Commercial Centre

Mondous Property

Wallan township is well established with a retail precinct including three supermarkets. As the population of Wallan East grows the demand from retail and/or commercial tenants that might comprise this proposed retail area will be gauged. To support a retail presence a major supermarket tenant is required as the ‘“anchor’” for the smaller retailers. We are engaging an economist to complete a retail assessment to outline the estimated timing of when Wallara Waters will support an anchor tenant and will provide an update in the coming months.

Sales

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property

Stage 22 land sales are now underway in Phase Two of the project, to the south of Taylors Creek. There are also some remaining lots in Phase One. The lots along Wallara Waters Boulevard are currently on the market ranging in size from 350 to 535 sqm and priced between $314,000 and $410,000.

Hume Freeway Bridge and Macsfield Road

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property

An additional road connection is planned at the southern end of Wallara Waters which includes a new bridge over the Hume Freeway. This is a relatively complex project that requires the acquisition of land on the western side of the Hume Freeway and approvals from both the Shire Council and the Department of Transport. Structural engineers have been appointed and are currently working on the bridge design. Mitchell Council have approved the functional layout for Macsfield Road. This is now pending approval from the Department of Transport.

Power outage issue

AusNet

AusNet are the energy providers for the region. AusNet has provided advice to Frasers Property that they are covering a major growth area and the infrastructure needed upgrades to cater for this growth have been impacted by weather and flora and fauna events – AusNet has advised that they always seek to advise affected customers – If you would like to contact AusNet, you can do so via the following email address: customersupport@ausnetservices.com.au

Taylors Creek and wetlands system

Frasers Property Australia and Mondous Property Australia

You will have noticed some significant earthworks on the south side of Taylors Creek. This major landscaping project to create the wetlands requires a drier environment than we have at present so these works have temporarily stopped but will recommence in the warmer months later in the year.

Hume Freeway ‘on’ and ‘off’ ramps at Watson Street

Victorian Department of Transport

The Commonwealth Government committed funds to this project in September 2020. We believe early geotechnical investigations have been undertaken at the site. The next step is a formal design process by the Victorian Department of Transport.
