Christmas in Italy includes La Befana. She is a kind, but ugly witch who delivers presents to the kids in Italy on a broomstick. La Befana arrives on Saturday, January 6. She is like St. Nicholas or Santa Claus, and delivers gifts and coal on a broomstick. La Befana wears a black, old cloak, mended with colorful patches. Christmas Day is celebrated all through America. It represents when Christ was born. All around the world, people celebrate and feast with lots of food. Some foods are turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and vegetables such as carrots, turnip, parsnips, etc. Children wake up, and open tons of presents with their families. People exchange gifts, decorate their house, and visit friends and family. These are a few examples of Christmas traditions in both America and Italy.

The Importance of Christmas By: Garrett Self Christmas is a holiday that is celebrated to remember Jesus’s birth. This is important because Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and we want to honor him during this time. Most kids enjoy Santa, presents and elves, but Christmas is a lot more important than these things. One tradition that my family and I do that reminds us of the importance of Christmas is that each person gets a new ornament each year.

Christmas Traditions By: Ashling Barrett There are many Christmas holiday traditions but the best one I could think of was the Elf on the Shelf!!! It is where elves from the North Pole come to hide at your house. They usually stay from December 1st until Christmas day and do mischievous things to your house every morning. Say, for example, my family's elf on the shelf is named Buddy and has been hiding at our house for at least two years. He has hid beside my stuffed animals, and has been in the freezer having pizza! My friends once told me they have had their elf turn on the news sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn! You never know what they will do next.

Restaurant Review By: Bailey Bonde “Dough” you like to eat cookie dough before it's baked?

Salmonella doesn't sound as sweet, does it? No Baked Cookie Dough makes it safe to eat raw cookie dough. The dough doesn't even melt! No oven necessary! There are many flavors, such as Mint Chip, Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Cookies and Cream, and S’mores. I chose Mint Chip the first time I went, and it was delicious! The second time I went, I got the original, Chocolate Chip, which wasn't as good as Mint Chip, but still good. Next time I'm going to try S’mores. The basic dough is made with prebaked flour, plant based margarine, and, of course, secret ingredients. At No Baked Cookie Dough, they also have special desserts, such as the Half-Baked Sundae, which is ice cream, cookie dough, and hot fudge. The cones are pink, and they come from a place called the Konery, located in New York. My favorite part of No Baked Cookie Dough would probably be the tasty cones if I had to choose. Don't forget to grab your complimentary water, as this delicious treat can make you thirsty! 5th Grade Gift Guide By: Jordan Connolly What Boys and Girls Might Like for Christmas Girls: Girls are all about crafts and play.

Slime and squishies are super popular right now. Slime is obviously banned from school, but we girls seriously love playing with it. Girls might also like pretty much any sort of clothing. You can’t ever take me away from a mall! Those are just three of the MANY things that girls might want for Christmas.

Boys: I am not a boy myself, but I have a 7th grade brother at home so I think I know enough about what 5th grade boys might like. Nerf guns and laser-tag guns are VERY popular in my house. Boys might also like video games for x-boxes.

My brother spends most of his free time with all of these, so I hope 5th grade boys would like these.

Girls and Boys: Electronics! Every single person in this grade has AT LEAST one electronic and they still think they need more! Phones, iPads, iPods, tablets, etc.

Some boys and girls just can’t keep their mouths closed, so if your parents need some quiet time, tell them to buy an electronic to keep you busy. These are some of the things boys and girls in the 5th grade might like for Christmas. (Tell your parents!)

The Christmas Card Project By: Abby Hill Jacob Thompson’s Story Jacob was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancerous tumor that has spread to his head. Once Jacob was told that he might not be able to celebrate another Christmas, he started to ask for Christmas cards from family, friends, and even strangers. Many people came to visit Jacob in the hospital. On November 9th, members of the law enforcement community from across New England caravanned to Maine to visit Jacob. After learning that Jacob loved penguins, the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut brought the tuxedo birds to Maine to meet their young fan. A common saying of Jacob's was "live life like a penguin". In his last days, Jacob not only received pallets full of mail but had some amazing visitors like the University of Maine hockey team. After fighting a strong battle of cancer, sadly Jacob passed away on Sunday, November 19. The family made the announcement Monday morning on their Facebook page.

After asking for Christmas cards to celebrate the holidays early, Jacob received tens of thousands of cards and gifts from across the country.
