A

ttaining the golden age of 50 is no mean feat. Those who attained this age has entered the age of happiness because they have the peace of mind of having paid off their mortgage, got the children off their hands or are simply enjoying spending more time with loved ones and friends.

Researchers also believe that many of those who have passed their half century are enjoying the time of their lives -comfortable and content with their lot. And that could perhaps explain why all roads led to Ondo Kingdom on August 22, running through August 25, 2018, when family members, friends, business and political associates as well as well-wishers, rolled out the drums to celebrate an achiever, successful medical professional, farmer and business mogul, Hon. Dr. Ajibayo John Adeyeye.

This edition of the RealityLife Magazine is specially dedicated to this medical doctor-turned politician, former majority leader at the Lagos State House of Assembly and currently, Special Adviser on Health to the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who as part of the activities marking his 50th birthday celebrations, presented his Autobiography titled: The Privileges of God. The avalanche of encomiums poured on Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye by his siblings, family members, friends, well wishers, political and business associates, the celebrant is perhaps entering into the other half of the century of his life, a happy and fulfilled man. He is a certified medical doctor, successful farmer, business guru, political juggernaut and on the verge of becoming a lawyer.

This magazine, a collector s item, showcases every activity that took place in honour of Hon. Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye. The high, the mighty and the low all gathered to celebrate with a man widely acclaimed to be so much in love with his people. Some parts of Ondo and Lagos States were agog for some days in August 2018, as activities lined up to celebrate the 50th birthday of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, erstwhile Majority Leader of Lagos State House of Assembly and current Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Governor, took the front burner. The activities included a thanksgiving service, public presentation of his autobiography, a tour of his Igbado Agro Allied Farm Ltd, and the launch of his Empowerment programme. Our Editor reports……

I

n his Forward to the Autobiography, “The Privileges of God,” published in commemoration of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye’s 50th birthday celebration, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora aptly captured the medical doctor-turned politician this way: “It is a super story of God’s grace and faithfulness in his life without discernible embellishment. It is also a story of a son’s dogged determination meeting with his dad’s passion and commitment to see his son succeed in life.”

And in a Preface to his Autobiography, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, currently Special Adviser on Health to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State literally corroborated Senator Mamora’s verdict.

According to him, “My early life was said to have been characterized by series of febrile convulsions, I managed to survive childhood and with determination of my loving parents, I attended the best primary schools. My life has been quite eventful and full of so many reasons to be grateful to God. I have enjoyed the uncommon privileges of the almighty

God, and to Him be all the glory and adoration.”

Born August 22, 1968, Ajibayo John Adeyeye, started his journey to success at Ebun Oluwa Nursery and Primary School, Yemoja, Ondo. He was later to be admitted into Primary 3 of Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure.

After successfully sitting for and passing the National Common Entrance Examination in 1978, he gained admission into the Federal Government College, Ido-Ani, Ondo State. He also attended the University of Lagos, where he studied medicine. He is today, running a programme in law at the University of Lagos.

Hon. Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye gathered the crème de la crème of the society to a three-day event in commemoration of his birthday in which family, friends, market women, traders, politicians, professional colleagues and well-wishers from all works of life attended in solidarity with a man widely acclaimed to be so much in love with his people.

The birthday celebration began at 10:00am with a thanksgiving service held at The Cathedral Church of St. Stephen (Anglican Communion), Oke-Aluko, Ondo on Wednesday, August 22, 2018.

Some of the dignitaries present at the church auditorium which was filled to the brim included some traditional rulers, Muslim clerics and Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora among others.

Titled: ‘The Celebration of The Privileges of God,’ the thanksgiving service was officiated by the Anglican Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Rt. Revd. S.A. Oni, who eulogized the good virtues of Dr. Adeyeye, testifying to his forthrightness, hard work, honesty and his good leadership qualities which he has used to touch lives and praised his commitment to God, the church and his community.

Cover The reception which followed immediately after the thanksgiving service, took place at his palatial home in Ondo Kingdom, where he played host to guests cutting across the old, the young, the rich, and the poor, from all corners of the world who had come to celebrate with him and his amiable wife, Dr. Olufunke Adeyeye, who welcomed and looked dazzling and colourful in her Aso-Oke attire, alongside the children, siblings and relatives.

It was an event which saw speaker after speaker in their goodwill messages, celebrate and describe Dr. Adeyeye as a true leader who filled the vacuum that was left behind by his late parents, Chief S.K. Abaja Adeyeye and Mrs. Simbiat Olufunke Adeyeye. Guests were treated to all manner of entertainment and sumptuous

meals and drinks.

On Day 2 of the two-day event, Dr. Adeyeye, in continuation of activities marking his 50th birthday celebration, launched his Empowerment programme where he distributed cash of various amounts, farming and fumigation tools, and agro chemicals to about 689 people comprising of the youths, market women, traders, widows, and farmers.

He also asked all the motorcycle riders in the kingdom to go to designated filling stations to fill their tanks with four liters of fuel for free.

Chairman of the Empowerment Programme event, High Chief Adeduro showered encomium on the celebrant for all the good works he has done in both Lagos and Ondo States declaring that he has taken on the footsteps of his father.

He asked him never to relent being generous.

Speaking exclusively to Reality Life Magazine, Dr. Adeyeye said: “I didn’t just decide to do this in the last few days, it has always been in my mind for almost 10years and since then I have decided that when I turn 50 by the grace of God, I was going to celebrate it in Ondo kingdom. And am going to give back to the community even though what magnitude I could not say I was going to do this much. To the glory of God today, we gave empowerment to 689 people.”

On the evening of the second day, family members, friends and well wishers followed him to Ighado where he played host to them at his Agro Allied Farm Limited, entertaining the guests with different kinds of food, drinks and music.

I Feel Sad When I See People In Pain And Wallowing In Poverty AJIBAYO ADEYEYE is a medical doctor-turned politician and farmer; he is also a lawyer in the making. The former Majority Leader at the Lagos State House of Assembly speaks in this special interview to mark his attainment of the golden age of 50 about his insatiable passion for the development of his people, community and State. Excerpts…….

A

s a medical doctor, tell us your experience before you got into politics?

I graduated from the University of Lagos (College of Medicine, Idi-Araba) in the year 1991. I practiced medicine very actively for 20 years, though I have not practiced in the last seven years. When I graduated, I did my housemanship in LUTH and my Youth Service at the National Sports Commission where I was staying with the Nigerian teams and then going around with them to take care of them whenever they sustained injury.

After my graduation, I decided to do

a post graduate training in anesthesiology at the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos where I did specialist training in anesthesia, and thereafter, I started my practice at my own ClinicJohn Stephen’s Hospital, Ikosi, Ketu, till I got elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2007.

Is your hospital still functioning at the moment?

Unfortunately no, I had to shut it down before I even left the House of Assembly, because I didn’t have the time to run a hospital any longer. It was not good enough to have other people take responsibilities for you. It was a commu-

nity practice and it was very personalized and attached to my name, so I needed to do away with it so I can concentrate on providing service to the people politically.

In your introduction, you said you are also a farmer, how did you come about farming?

Well, I became a farmer by accident; there was a neighbour of mine here in Ondo State of blessed memory whom I used to accompany to his farm. On one of the occasions that I followed him to his farm, he asked whether I was interested in farming and I said if only I could have access to land that is very accessible.

Interview He then took me to one of the lands he had acquired long ago and agreed to sell it to me which I eventually acquired and that was how I started farming business.

Today, without fear of contradiction, we are among the largest producers of eggs in the state.

How impactful has your community (Ondo) felt your presence and how much do they appreciate your person?

That is left for the community to say but as an individual and as a native of this town, I have been doing my best to serve the community in any capacity that I have found myself. In recognition of my contributions, the Osemawe in Council made me a member of the Ondo Development Committee and as a member of that committee, I have been contributing my quota and I have been doing my best to ensure that we promote the ideals of our society and move the community forward.

How was growing up here in Ondo town like?

Ondo is more like an elitist society, we are very proud people; we grew up to know that you needed to do what is right at all times, because you don’t want a situation where your family name is attached to any wrong doing in the society. In fact, in this society, there is a festival that we call Opepere. If you do something bad in this society, the youths will go out with drums and they will sing with those bad things that you have been doing so that people will hear about your secrets. So, it’s not fashionable at all to do bad things in this society. We grew up with those very noble values and all of us aspire to be noble and good people in our society.

You have a household family name here in Ondo Kingdom, how will you describe your time with your dad?

Well, my father was a fantastic man; he was my friend. He did everything to ensure a solid foundation for us to succeed.

He is part of the reason that I am what I am today. He ensured that I had every privilege anybody could have in any society. I went to schools that anybody that

He was simply a great and good Dad. Despite your elitist background, people say you are very humble and that you don’t discriminate, what is the secret?

It might not be totally unconnected to my background; it was a value that was inculcated in us from the foundation. My father in his life time will entertain not less than 10–15 people every morning and we are used to entertaining the high and the low, the rich and the poor in our house. It’s a tradition, it’s something we are used to as a family. My father never discriminated against anybody and that was how I was brought up. It will be something very strange for me to discriminate.

You are obviously a very busy and active person, even your wife confirmed that, but how do you find time to relax?

I will say I create time to relax, I do a lot of exercise, I am on treadmill a lot of times, I swim very well, I play table tennis very well and in the last one and half years or so, I have started playing golf, I enjoy playing golf a lot. I mean I just realize I need to enjoy myself so I create time to do just that. I also enjoy travelling; I

Do you have any favourite kind of music?

King Sunny Ade and Francis Akintade are among my favourite musicians.

What makes you unhappy?

I feel unhappy when I see people in pain and wallowing in poverty. When people are in pain, I feel touched such that I would want to do everything possible to get them out of that excruciating condition. So, when I see people in pain

Sir, what food do you enjoy most?

Unfortunately, it is something that my wife and I sometimes worry about. I don’t have any particular favourite food that I enjoy more, I simply enjoy any good food that is well prepared.

2019 is fast approaching, though this is not part of your birthday, but could you tell us what you are contemplating?

I am aspiring to be a member of the Federal House of Representative and it is borne out of my concern about my people and I already have some experience as a former member (Majority Leader) of the Lagos State House of Assembly where I served for eight years. I have had a lot

of trainings, both local and international. I have been preparing myself for this project; it is part of the reason why I am studying law at the University of Lagos.

Would you want to say anything about your mum?

My mum is an exceptionally caring and loving woman, who did everything to make us the kind of children everybody is proud of just like my dad too. I think their agreement to ensure that we succeeded actually impacted a lot on us.

My mum retired when she was less than 50 years old in 1985 and her sole reason was to ensure that she monitored us and ensured that we had all the attention we needed to succeed.

50 is certainly a landmark; Congratulations Sir! What would you say are the things that propelled you in the past 50 years and what are you looking forward to?

I am grateful to God for the first 50 years and first half of my life and I look forward to helping humanity, to serve my community. At this level, I can say my personal needs are reduced, because already two out my three children have graduated; only one is still in the university. So, my major preoccupation at this level is to help others, because God has helped me to that point that it is now my duty to help others. So if I am working now and earning anything, it will be to serve other people.

ow long have you been married?

We’ve been married for over 23 years now.

Lagos, where we first met and became friends, but later took it to a higher level and got married years later.

Can you please tell us how it all started?

My husband is a loving man, he’s dependable, he’s God-fearing and he is a

very just person. He hates dishonesty, he’s service-oriented and a very cheerful giver. He always loves to impact his environment positively. In fact, my husband is a cool guy. He is dedicated, focused, and he has got great love for people. He is a fantastic father, husband and family man.

Interview Do you know anything about his social life?

I think he does everything in moderation, he’s just himself, he’s passionate about service and he loves his family. He loves to spend time with his family the same way he likes taking care of other people.

Talking about service, we learnt he has been into politics for a number of years now, how will you describe his political life and his family setting?

I would say my husband has been able to balance both. He takes his family very seriously, he looks after his children, he’s passionate about what they do, he knows what they do, he is part of our lives and he has never allowed his involvement in politics to destabilize the home, he‘s been able to balance them well.

We understood that besides being a politician, your husband is also an entrepreneur in agriculture, how about that?

My husband is passionate about development and likes to go into green areas. He is someone that likes to make a difference in his environment. He is the type that is restless; he does a lot of things at the same time. As for the family front, he is a great family man that cares a lot for his family. With the farm, there are a number of things I don’t buy any longer and the farm has also provided employment for some people both directly and indirectly.

I like that part that you don’t have to buy so many things Yeah! By the grace of God and the hard-work of my husband, we get a lot of farm produce without going to the market to buy them.

From all indications, you have numerous memorable experiences, would you mind share at least one with us?

Well, my most memorable experience would be when we had our first child. I remember how the event went and how happy we were when we had her.

How does your husband relax with his hyperactive nature and busy schedules?

He has always been a restless person, somebody that likes to do so many things

I would say my husband has been able to balance both. He takes his family very seriously, he looks after his children, he’s passionate about what they do, he knows what they do, he is part of our lives and he has never allowed his involvement in politics to destabilize the home, he‘s been able to balance them well.

Who is his favourite musician?

I know my husband loves and enjoys King Sunny Ade’s music so much and I also know he is passionate about some of the hymns.

What about food, any special favorite?

My husband is not thrilled by any particular kind of food, he enjoys any good food.

What would you want to tell him at 50?

I want to tell him I love him so much. I also want to use this opportunity to wish him all the beautiful things of life and God’s special favour, guidance, protection and the grace to enjoy his good works and family.

He Is A very Kind And Loving Father

- Adeyosola,

Dr. Adeyeye’s Daughter

D

r. Adeyosola Adeyeye, the first daughter of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye has reminisced her growing up under the watchful eyes of her father and said that growing up was quite an interesting and challenging experience, because not only is his father kind, he is also a disciplinarian even though we all know that children detest being disciplined until they finally grow up to know that all that the parents did were about them.

“He taught me most of the things I do today. He taught me how to swim, how to drive, and he corrected us when we did things that were less than ideal. He instilled a lot of discipline in us, but then he is very tolerant, kind and always there for everyone whether biological child or not. He taught us to appreciate our family and others. Most of the skills I have, I probably learnt from my dad,” she said.

She noted that the father made them to understand that without the family, they are not complete. “He made us to have self-confidence and to be proud of our home – Ondo. Though I cannot speak the Ondo dialect, but at least I can speak

Yoruba well. He taught us a lot of things and I am grateful for that.”

She recalled that growing up was of course teamwork with her mum and dad, and that they have been very great parents so far, adding that they always have a lot of people come around. “It still takes us back to family, growing up has been a great experience.”

She described her father as a very kind and loving man, a very purposeful person, who loves his family so much yet he is purpose-driven, humble, generous and God-fearing.

On what usually makes her father angry, she said the father is rather very slow to anger. “Probably those times when we appear to be lazy or inefficient, he could express disappointment but it wasn’t really anger in the true sense of the word.

He has a way of just making you see and even just explains to you why what you just did was not right in a way that even you would feel bad about yourself, it’s not like he really gets angry. In fact, I don’t remember anytime he has ever beaten us as children even though he was a great disciplinarian.”

On what she could recall as her memo-

rable experience with the father, Adeyosola recalled, “It definitely has to be when I was inducted to the medical profession.

My Dad is the current Chairman of the alumni association of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. He was the one that decorated me and I was so happy and I am sure he doesn’t even understand how happy I was.

“I was so proud and so happy that I finished from my parents Alma matter and that they are both alive to witness it even though this is just the beginning. I am so glad and grateful to him for giving me sound education.”

As Dr. Adeyeye marks his 50th birthday, his daughter, Adeyosola prayed he should continue to be the amazing, honest, respectable man he has always been, adding that he should not change but should continue to be God-fearing, and continue to grow in grace. “I wish him long life and prosperity and I really pray that he is going to continue to move from grace to grace.”

She declared: “Thank you very much Dad for everything, I love you so very much even though I don’t say it as much as I should.”

He Is An Exceptional Character And Personality - Adeyeye Jnr.

jibayo Adeyeye Jnr, son of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye has said that his father is someone he always looked up to as a model insisting he is the kind of father that is prepared to do everything for his family both nucleus and extended and even community to be successful and upright.

“He provides for us and at the same time disciplines us when the occasion calls. As the first son of the family, he has carried on very well and even as a community leader.

Daddy is an exceptional character and personality. If there is another opportunity to be reborn and I am given the opportunity to choose a father, I will choose him over and over. He is such a caring and loving father with unparalleled wisdom.

He’s always there for everybody,” he said.

Adeyeye Jnr, an engineer, described his father as a very patient person, who is extremely slow to anger, tolerant, humble and generous person who looks out for the best interest of everyone. “He is very selfless and he is not someone that does things because they are good for him. But he would do things because they are good for as many people as possible. That is one of his main characteristics I really admire and want to emulate in my own life too.”

Speaking about some of the good

virtues he learnt from his father, he said he learnt how to be selfless, humble, accommodating, wise, patient, tolerant, generous and honest, admitting that his father brought him up in these values.

On a memorable experience he once had about his father, Adeyeye Jnr recalled how about two years ago, he met his father who visited alongside his friend, one Mr. Abegunde while on his first internship in the United States. Then he (Adeyeye Jnr) had just closed from work, met them on the street somewhere outside a shop, and as soon as his father came out of the car, he took a quick assessment of him and discovered that he was not looking tidy.

“The first thing he did was that

he took off his belt which was a very quality one, gave it to me and he took mine. That act alone made me realize I have to dress properly always,” he said.

As the father marks his 50th birthday, Adeyeye Jnr joins others in wishing him all the happiness that life has to offer, and success in everything that he’s doing. “I wish him long life, sound health and the grace to continue to impact humanity positively.

“I am extremely happy to have been able to make it down here for his birthday, I don’t know how I would have felt if I wasn’t able to come. Congratulations and happy 50th birthday, Dad,” he concluded.

What can you say about your father while growing up?

My dad is my role model and an outstanding man of integrity. While growing up, my dad had taught us to be hard-working, and straight-forward; and these made us well brought up children.

The most memorable experience I had with my dad was when I gained admission into the University of Ghana to study medicine, and my dad travelled to Ghana with me and when we got there, he ensured that I had everything I needed in order for me to settle down as it was my first time in the university.

I am so glad and proud to be his daughter and I thank the almighty God for giving him to me as a father. He made my life so meaningful with the way he provided me with the entire consistence I need to

hairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter, Ade Adetimehin has said that as a member of the APC, he has known Dr. AjibayoAdeyeye as a true party man, full of vision and ideas, who can be trusted and relied upon.

According to him, “He is a man of capacity, competence and ability; a man who has the interest of his people at heart. He is a man of enviable background. He is a man who in spite of an affluent background is yet, very humble.

He is intelligent, gentle, easy going and generous. He believes in the survival and well-being of others; he is a team player.

He is a grassroots person. He is indeed dependable.”

Adetimehin, however, advised Dr. Adeyeye to sustain what he has been doing before and should do more because there are more challenges than even before.

He wished him long life and prosperity.

“The Lord that has been sustaining him right from youth will continue to abide with him and take him to greater height; he will celebrate 60, 70, 80 90, 100 and as much as he would wish.”

The APC Chairman recalled that Dr. Adeyeye came into the politics of Ondo State in 2012 when Arakunrin Akeredolu, SAN was running for the governorship of the state and since then, he has been a dependable ally, who says it the way it is.

ndo State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa has said that though Hon. Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye is his colleague, but much more than that, he is like a brother to him and somebody that he holds in very high esteem, describing him as a very upright man, and a man of integrity.

Akinterinwa went further to describe Dr. Adeyeye as a fantastic human being, who is very frank, sincere, hardworking and humorous, especially when he starts speaking Ondo indigenous dialect.

“Despite his urbane status, he is still very much a village boy who is so fond of his home. He is somebody that is very dependable, when he tells you yes then

“He is someone that is also very passionate about the well-being of others around him, that much I noticed in all my interactions with him. In commemoration of Dr. Adeyeye’s 50th birthday, the Commissioner congratulated him on his attainment of the golden landmark, saying that he has eventually become a member of the golden club. “Again, I pray that God will

grant him more fruitful years in the land of the living and as well empower him to make more impact in the lives of people irrespective of whether they appreciate or not. He is no doubt a great guy. My advice to him is that he should not relent in his service to humanity.”

Hon. Akinterinwa remarked that Dr. Adeyeye is great fun to be with, as he has a very high sense of humour. “When you are with him, there is no dull moment; if he is not cracking some jokes then he is probably talking about very serious issues that pertain to the well-being of the people. As young as he was then, he knew I was always broke because of my lifestyle, but he would go to his sister who worked in the bank and get the luncheon voucher and

bring it to me so that I could eat. He was and he is still such a wonderful person.”

He admonished the young ones to learn Dr. Adeyeye’s ability to engage in multi tasks at the same time as well as his generous disposition, adding that he does not care “if you give him, but he likes giving, and he is an exemplary personality worth emulation.”

In an interview with RealityLife Magazine, she said that Dr. Adeyeye is a man of impeccable character and personality, an epitome of humility such that one would hardly know he is from an aristocratic or elitist background.

“He relates freely with all manners of persons including the high and the lowly. He is very industrious and enterprising. In fact, he is more of a businessman than a medical doctor. He is always thinking about the people all the time and he is a grassroots politician.

r. Gbenga Osobokun, a former Secretary to Agboyi--Ketu Council Development Area has said that as a man he has known in the last 30 years, he can describe Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye as a very blunt and straight-forward person, who detests sycophancy.

“He is a man of many parts: He is a medical doctor, an administrator, a politician, a farmer and a lawyer to be. His philanthropic disposition was the thing that attracted me to him. He is indeed a wonderful person. He has touched so many lives, changed so many peoples’ story and restored hope to the hopeless.

“In short, he is a man you will not imagine to have come from a comfortable background. His concern for the common man tends to create the impression that he is somebody that has tasted poverty before, but interestingly he has never tasted poverty. Again, he is a good listener and a humble man,” Osobokun said.

While advising Dr. Adeyeye as he attained the golden age of 50, Mr. Osobokun noted that at the age of 50, one shifts from being a boy to a man, and is at the middle of the road. rickety car. And when I asked him why he chose to do that, he said those that ply the road in that car are as human and ordinary as himself and that was how we carried on throughout that day.”

Osobokun, who is also a politician, farmer and author recalled that his second experience was that one day they were on their way to Ondo in Dr. Adeyeye’s car with a friend (foreigner) from outside Nigeria and when they got to Ore, they stopped to buy a few things and having paid, he was expecting the seller to give me him the balance, but Dr. Adeyeye said, let the traders smile today that they have passed through this road and that was how they left their balance with them.

“In fact, in some cases, even when we did not buy anything, he will give some five thousand naira, ten thousand naira, and so on. At Kosofe Local Government, sometimes he will come unannounced and would share money to the traders, some twenty thousand naira even when their wares are probably not worth five thousand naira, some fifty thousand naira when in actual fact the things they are selling are not worth twenty thousand naira, and so on. He is such a man given to charity,” Osobokun recalled.

“We were in the 6th and 7th Assembly together at the Lagos State House of Assembly; he was at a point Deputy Leader and in the 7th Assembly, a Majority Leader. He is somebody that you will appreciate knowing, he is very honest,

open-minded, simple, unassuming, generous, more importantly, a team player.

“He is somebody that I can say without any fear of contradiction, is a selfless human being. He is a goal getter and an entrepreneur. He is a caring father and a loving husband to his children and wife; he is highly passionate about the well-being of people. He is a man of integrity and impeccable character. I rejoice with him and congratulate him on

his 50th birthday. I am happy to be among the few to testify of his sterling qualities.”

He said he could still remember what happened during the burial of his Dad. He was highly hospitable, and ensured that we all had the best, he is that hospitable.”

ife of Tokunbo Adeyeye, the younger brother of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, Mrs. Ololade Adeyeye, has described her brother in-law as being wonderful to her and the family.

“He is very accommodating; I have never seen him angry. He has taken that place of a father-in-law; he’s no more a brother-in-law to me, but a fabulous father-in-law, we love him. He has been there for me and my family during hard times and good times.

“From the bottom of my heart, I say you are simply wonderful, you are down-to-earth, selfless, in fact, I don’t know how to describe you, Uncle Jibayo. You are so wonderful, you are a rare gem. I just like to wish you a happy birthday and more wealth, wisdom, long life and good health.”

On what she cannot forget about Dr. Adeyeye, she recalled: “The

memorable day was when I had my first child and he came to London with his Aunty, Funke. That was actually the first time I met him in person, we used to talk on phone and I really felt so elated. I will never forget that day.”

“As he celebrates his 50th birthday, I wish him more wealth, more successes, more incredible things, all the good things he desires. I pray the Lord will grant him and his family more grace and favour.”

On what she learnt from Dr. Adeyeye, she said she learnt to be calm, humble, accommodating and the importance of relating well with everybody around.

“I have learnt and imbibed a lot from his personality, the way he talks and accommodates everyone. I now take life as simple as it truly is. I have accepted the fact that we are all equal before God just the way Uncle Jibayo treats everybody around him.

“This is from me and the kids and my entire family, we wish you more bountiful years ahead, keep smiling Uncle Jibayo. We love you, from me and the kids and your brother, Tokunbo,” she concluded.

hat can you tell us about Dr. Ajibayo John Adeyeye?

He is a good friend of mine, a friend of the downtrodden people of our Local Government.

He once represented our constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Throughout his tenure in office, he ran an open door policy that made him the toast of the people.

He hates seeing people in pain and he is the type that relates with practically everybody no matter how highly or lowly placed. He is a perfect gentleman and a wonderful family man. He has impacted many lives positively. He is a dynamic, amiable, responsible, God fearing and humble man.

What will you wish him at 50?

I want to join millions of Nigerians, particularly those of us from Agboyi-Ketu and members of Kosofe Integrity Movement to wish him long life and prosperity. I pray that God in his infinite mercy will take him to the next level.

You related with him for the period he was here in Kosofe. Do you have any personal memorable experience that you will like to recount for us?

There was this day that my late wife was critically ill and I put a call through to him, I never knew he was out of the country but roamed his number; he picked it and said Engineer what is the problem and I said my wife is ill and he asked where she was at that moment and I said she was in a private hospital at Ijede and he screamed: Why did you take her there? That I should immediate-

ly transfer her to LASUTH and I did.

Honestly, if it were to be money, I wouldn’t have lost her, because Dr. Adeyeye and his wife gave every support possible. The wife was the first to return and she gave every support, and as soon as Dr. Adeyeye returned, he came straight to the hospital and did all they could, but unfortunately we lost her anyway. Since then, the family has remained a huge pillar of support even till now despite he is no longer in the Lagos State House of Assembly. I am sure you can understand the quality of the man we are talking about. He is such a role model.

Once again, I wish you a wonderful 50th birthday celebration, Honourable Dr. Adeyeye.

t’s Ajibayo Adeyeye’s 50th birthday, Sir, what do you have to say about him?

The first time I met him was at the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) where he was actively involved in the politics of the association. Surprisingly, we met again when we were both in the race for the chairmanship of Kosofe Local Government Area in 1998. That was how our relationship started and since then the relationship has blossomed. In fact, he is such a jolly good fellow.

Interestingly, his wife also happens to be a professional colleague, a medical doctor; a medical consultant and we became family friends so to speak. Again, he happens to come from Ondo State from where my wife also comes. He has since remained a very good friend and political ally so to speak. He is a very humble and brilliant gentleman. I’m

happy for him as he attains and celebrates his 50th birthday.

What’s your wish for him?

That the good Lord that has kept him thus far would continue to sustain him in the years ahead and that whatever good he wishes himself, God will grant unto him, strengthen him, give him more wisdom and sound health.

May God continue to empower him to render service to humanity. I am indeed proud to be associated with him. I pray he will celebrate 60, 70, 80, 90, until he is willing to relocate.

What will you advise him at 50?

My admonition to him is that whatever part he has chosen in terms of career, education, politics, and what have you, he should continue to be himself as he has always been and that all the good things we have known him for, he

should continue to do them and remain focused.

Any memorable experience to recount?

Yes, I just told you a lot of things about how we met and have continued as friends, does that not seem memorable enough? Our meeting and friendship would suffice.

But since at the beginning you were both contesting for the same positions, was there any point at which there was rancour?

Not at all, there was never such a time.

He is my junior both in medical practice and politics and we have consistently respected ourselves. It has always been about service to the people and therefore, there has never been rancour at all.

I will continue to count on him. Once again, I wish him a beautiful golden celebration.

member representing Ifako-Ijaye Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Dayo Saka Fafunmi has described Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye as a very good friend of his, worthy of his trust, adding that he has a lot of respect for him.

“Aside being a medical doctor who eventually decided to go back to school to study law the same way I did, I see him as someone who is determined to make a difference in his generation, a man who stands for the interest of the people. I see him as someone who will fly, who will go places.

“While we were together as lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly, he did creditably well and we are very proud of him. Now that I have the honour to say something about him, I want him to know that some people are seriously missing him at the Lagos State House of Assembly. We have been friends since 2007 and ever since, there has never been cause to regret knowing him; he is such a jolly good fellow,” Hon. Fafunmi said.

While celebrating with Dr. Adeyeye as he marks his 50th birthday, Hon Fafunmi noted: “Well, at 50, I will say that life has just begun. And 50 is more like a half of a circle, but I know he takes good care of himself, even when most of us were adding weight, he would come and tell us to jog, that he goes to the gym and jogs every day and that is why he looks younger than his age.

“Turning 50 is a great feat to attain, but that would equally have its own demands, part of which is that he has to be more careful, because sometimes

he might still be seeing himself as a boy which he is not in actual fact. I know God is with him and will always be with him.”

Hon. Fafunmi recalled that he alongside Dr. Adeyeye have had many things together as lawmakers and friends, and recollected that there was something that he (Dr. Adeyeye) did that actually surprised him. “When I was coming back for a third term, even when he couldn’t come back to the State House of Assembly, he still came to give me support which most other colleagues won’t do. With that, he has simply proved the good and friendly person that he truly

is. He is the kind of friend you can count on; he is very dependable, when he gives you his word, he keeps to it.”

As Dr. Adeyeye clocks 50, Hon. Fafunmi has this to say: “Well, my friend listen to me, you are 50 years now, and when you are 50, you know what that means, you have to slow down in all your activities. I know you don’t drink and don’t eat so much, but ensure you do less of the things you have always done in terms of physical activities. I know you do a lot of exercises, please continue as far as your strength can carry. I wish you the very best in life. Congratulations on your 50th birthday.”

How much of Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye do you know?

Hon. Adeyeye was with me at both the 6th and 7th Assembly. He was my Deputy Majority Leader in the 6th Assembly and the Majority Leader of the House in the 7th Assembly. To talk about ‘Jibayo is one thing I will always find very interesting because he is an interesting person. He is an extraordinary young man and has proven himself over time to be extraordinary.

He is not only intelligent but he is also very diligent, he is forthright and he would put in all that he can, all that is necessary in every cause that he believes in.

As my Majority Leader for four years, I never found him wanting; he

stood out, he worked so hard, even as a medical doctor. I found his legislative ability quite exciting, it’s interesting and how much he is able to weave together in the area of law making. To his credit he has a number of bills, with the medical thing in him manifesting because he showed a lot of interest in the people. To his credit for example, we have the medical insurance team, he brought the bill and wove it together. If we put it to use, it will definitely help us a lot in the medical sector of our economy.

There are so many things that ‘Jibayo did that made him outstanding. I can call him any time of the day or night and tell him what is agitating my mind and whatever ideas it is I want to use

to do something about it. We would go into arguments about ideas that will help bring solutions to Nigeria’s problems. Nigeria has a good gift in the young man.

He has left Lagos politics to some extent and has moved to Ondo where he actually hails from, and I believe that his politics thrives and does well over there. And of course, I know our country Nigeria needs the likes, not only at the State level but at the National level to move the country forward and to get things done right so as to take the country to its desired destination.

You said he’s a forthright person and in Nigeria today there are bound to be some forms of challenges when you are being forthright. What’s your take?

Encomium It’s not only him. The honest truth is that to be forthright in our country today is to be straight forward and be up and doing and try to do things the proper way. Anything contrary to the interest of the people will always earn you a lot of talks, a lot of bashing, and beating. It’s only if you are lucky that you will survive it.

The major trouble we have today is that those who are naturally good, honest, forthright, and who want the best for the people, consider politics too dirty. They find it too tough to thread on and so, they stay away leaving only a handful of their lives in politics. But politics is also a game of number and a game of figure. If there are ten of you and one or two decides that this is what should be while A says it shouldn’t be the other, you can as well go to sleep because the eight forms the majority and they will always have their way while the few who may be forthright gets mauled up, muscled down in the game.

He’s not alone in it, there is an ultimate decision maker who makes it happen even though we do it our way every day.

But when he says it is time, His time is always the best if you remain committed and steadfast, you will get there.

What would you advise him as he turns 5o?

At 50, he looks a lot younger than his age and the strides he has taken so far to me appears to be a lot more than that of a 50-year old. I know the type of background he came from. With such a background, he was cool-headed enough not to get distracted, spoilt, not to lose focus and has become a medical doctor at about 22. He also has an extraordinary wife who has been very supportive, he has children who are well-groomed and doing well and his son has also beaten his record.

Things are going well for him and I’m happy for him. I want him to remain steadfast, to remain godly, to serve God more, serve humanity more, his people and Nigeria and do the best he can for humanity. The energy most likely decreases after 50 and it takes the grace of God and the support of medical science and paramedical sciences to keep you fit

and strong. So to remain strong to be able to go ahead is really a thug of war.

He should take his time to look after himself since he’s always conscious of himself. He should look after his family and be more dedicated to the assignments God has given to him. He has always been an honest person and remains godly. With that and with God on your side, you cannot get it wrong.

Would you want to tell us about a memorable experience you had with him?

The honest truth is that he came in when I was going for my second term as the speaker of the House. At the initial stage, the parliament is a different ball game and the politics outside is something else. The politics in the parliament is totally different and not easy; it did not take me much time to find out that he is an interesting young man that one could draw closer.

With rumours here and there as usual in the parliament, they will tell you stories and if you are the head, you are lucky if God is on your side for you to know how to shove those stories aside and face your assignment otherwise you would have thrown away the water and the baby at the same time before you realize what you are doing.

Almost every day brings new expe-

rience, and it was one of the guys who called him Mr. Speaker’s son. So whatever somebody like him comes to tell me, I hold dear because I know he will not just carry the normal street rumour, he will just do it for the sake of telling me. The experiences were palatable and beautiful especially when we travelled out of the country for assignment. I always have that assurance that whatever be the reason that I have taken the decision from the House to go for that programme, I can rely on ‘Jibayo to bring back the good that I want out of him.

For instance, we went to Texas when we wanted to make the Cremation law, it was novel around here and there was a lot of trouble around it. I had to lead the team over there and I had somebody like him in the team; and it’s a question of just being there. I can take my time and be relaxed because I had ‘Jibayo around.

What are you wishing him as he marks 50?

I wish him many more years of good health and i pray his star continues to shine. I know the sky is no more the limit for someone his age; he will go beyond the sky. I pray that all that makes him happy, God will keep for him and everything that he wishes himself after 50, God will grant him.

hairman of Bet9ja Betting company, Kunle Soname has said that he came across ‘Jibayo Adeyeye in 1998 when they both started politics together in his local constituency before he (Dr. Adeyeye) eventually went to the House of Assembly and himself became Kosofe Local Government Chairman for eight years, describing him as an extremely reliable friend, who stands for that which is true and fair.

“When you have his commitment or his words on something, you can go to sleep. I can say that what caused him a seat at the House of Assembly was his insistence on credibility. I am talking about him being trying to be credible, to do things in the interest of all that is the majority. I will say it is a major challenge for him and I know for certain at the end the truth shall prevail and the just shall be comforted and the people of crooked means shall be disgraced, that I know,” Soname said.

Of course, at 50, we really don’t think that he is going to change. I will wish him long life and prosperity and more wisdom from God. On a memorable experience he’s had with the celebrant, Soname recalled: “When I was in the Local Government as Chairman, he was at the House of Assembly, then the Deputy Majority Leader; that was his first time and I was called to the House of Assembly and was being drilled generally by the House.

ment Chairman is from your constituency, you are not expected to participate, you are to leave others to drill the fellow.

He found it difficult to adhere to that; he was always interjecting on my behalf.

Am trying to say how passionate he is with things that are correct and right. He is someone who sticks to the truth and fairness.”

On what he learnt from the medical doctor turned politician, Soname remarked, “we should all stand to be forthright at all times, though that has

its own short term disadvantage but on the long run, it pays to be forthright. We have seen evidences of that from time to time. As one of my leaders would say ‘the eyeballs of a righteous man will turn red because he will suffer persecution and everything but at the end of the day, the redness will go and yield way for clear brightness.’ So you must stand for that which you think is correct and true and you must hold firm. That is the only way this country can move to the next level.”

How did you get to know Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye?

I have known ‘Jibayo for close to 20 years. I’ve known him to be an upright person, a selfless person and a philanthropist. And he has served in various capacities in the state representing his people. I remember very well he has attempted to be in the House of Assembly right from the return of democracy from the military rule in 1998.

From his effort at that time, he got appointed into the Teaching Service Commission TESCOM. Beyond his appointment in TESCOM, he also served

as Commissioner in the Civil Service Commission of the state. But eventually, his effort in politics and political representation came to fruition in 2007, when he contested and won primary elections to represent his people in Kosofe II. Then we both served together in the 6th and 7th Assembly at the Lagos House of Assembly.

In the two assemblies just mentioned, ‘Jibayo served as the principal officer in the House of Assembly and breaking the jinx because there is a tradition in the house, that it is only a ranking member that can serve as one of the

official members of the house in 2007.

But because of his brilliance and the love the members had for him at that time, his first coming to the house, he became the deputy majority leader in the 6th Assembly. On his return to the House of Assembly in 2011, he was made the Majority Leader by his colleagues. Though he lost at the primaries in 2014, he has ever remained a loyal and committed member of the APC. He turned 50, what would be your description of his personality?

You said you’ve known him for about two decades; do you have any memorable experience you would want to share with us?

We have been in the House of Assembly for eight years together, we have done things together and we are discerning minds. I could remember some of our escapades in the House during the first or second tenure, he was indeed very dear to the institution because being the principal of the house means a lot.

Between 2011 and 2015, I was indeed the deputy majority leader when he was the majority leader; I was the deputy whip when he was the majority leader.

Other than the fact that we were together at parliamentary sections with members, professional opportunities of being together while we were fewer as principal officers in meeting, he is indeed a very courageous man, very outspoken, knowledgeable and above all, he is fearless. And because of his fearlessness “he did not return to the House of Assembly.”

But that did not indicate or depict the

This was a bill he was so passionate about and in support of some other colleagues, he was able to come up with a very robust bill. Apart from that, he was also instrumental to the passage of Sunshine law in Lagos state that never came to be.

He worked very hard on it but it appeared as if our democracy was not ripe enough for the Sunshine law.

Apart from that, he also made meaningful impact in the passage of the LABRO (Lagos State Budget Research Office), he made several attempts too.

These are bills if eventually passed into law, will further enhance the legislative institution into better performance.

Ordinarily, if the House had passed the Sunshine law, it was for government to electrify the rural areas.

What morals should people learn from his character as a person?

He is an inspirational leader, who possesses high and good values, a highly moral person. He has displayed this in a number of ways and for me, I cherish him a lot because he has displayed good leadership traits.

What will you advise him at 50?

It is for him to continue to be himself, he has accomplished so much in life. Two of his children are graduates, he already has all that an accomplished man needs to have. I can only implore him to continue to be himself and to keep up with the good values he’s been known for.

What are your wishes for him?

I want to wish him a happy birthday and more prosperous years ahead. I will also urge him to continue to be philanthropic as he does to his people and to mankind. I pray that God will be there for him at his point of need.

ow would you describe your brother as he attains the golden age of 50?

We thank God because the most important thing in life is that God has already been faithful to all our family members. It all started from his dad (may his soul rest in perfect peace), High Chief Dr. S.K. Adeyeye a.k.a Soka. His dad was a great man, a philanthropist; he helped the Ondo indigenes in town and in the Diaspora. And seeing Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye being successful, the handwriting has been written on the wall.

I call his dad father Abraham, and he was blessed with lots of children because among all his peers he’s the best. Even Hon. Ajibayo’s mom, late Mrs. Simbiat Olufunke Adeyeye was also brilliant and also was the pillar in our family. Everybody in the family loved her for being such a great woman we have in the family. She is from Akinfolarin's family and they are great as well. But today, Adeyeye family is one of the best families in Ondo;

What is your most memorable experience with him?

That was when I got married to my pretty wife, Dr. Yewande Adeyeye and Hon. Ajibayo stood in as my father.

What are the morals you learnt from him that you think other people should follow?

It’s in the lineage of the family that we should be upright, straight-forward. Though Hon. Ajiboya is the most straight-forward person, he works hard, and he is a leader that has a very good

lhaja Bimbo Akinfolarin Yusuf, aunt to Dr. ‘Jibayo Adeyeye has said that the celebrant has from childhood been known as one who does not fight with anybody, who relates with everybody equally, and one who does not discriminate against people as a result of their non-membership of the family. According to her, he took these virtues after his mother, describing the family as cheerful givers.

“I can say right from day one when he was born, because after his birth, his mother went back to school to study further so he was brought to our mother

She added that she was very happy for him and was convinced Dr. Adeyeye will still do more for the community and the nation at large and wished him a happy 50th birthday and more prosperous years ahead.

“He is a giver and he never gets angry, he’s always laughing and he’s always available to go give a helping hand. And I know that whatever he’s looking forward to achieve, he’ll get it because the people loves him and God is with him,” she said while speaking about what she learnt from him.

What is your relationship with Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye?

He is my brother in-law but it is more appropriate to call him my brother as I do not have a natural big brother. I have known him for the most part of my life, since my teens, that’s how long I’ve been seeing him around my sister. So he is not only a brother, he is like a young father so to say. I lived with them when I was out of the University for a long time, he is the most accommodating gentle man I know. He’s very articulate, smart, and very bright. He’s always wanting to help people, he’s always there when you need him.

My relationship with him is at the top, I see him as someone I can always run to, he’s always available to assist and then he has a very good foresight. Most of the things that I’ve heard him talk about as things he would like to do, I have seen him work towards those goals. He’s an achiever, he is a people’s person, he loves to serve. For as long as I have known him, he has always served the people in one capacity or the other and he is also

very tolerant.

I once told his wife that I have never seen brother Ajibayo angry, I have never seen him express anger even in the face of provocation. And that takes a lot from any gentleman for you to be so resilient and keep your emotion in check. I have never seen him being rude to any of his staff or anybody. I think whatever society or community that he serves or works with, they are very fortunate to have him because he is very strategic, and he loves children. He has very good leadership qualities. He is able to bring people together and he is able to provide shared vision.

As he turns 50, what will you wish him?

I will wish him the best that life can offer. Like I said, he is very strategic and he does not rush through life. He plans then he goes by those goals, and he is down to earth and humble. If you look at his pedigree, you will expect him to be a very proud human being but he is gentle.

I want him to continue in that line, and I am so happy that he is doing a lot of em-

powerment program. If you are a leader, it will be good to replicate yourself, that’s what I see as his success. He is always bringing people up.

What would you have for us as your most memorable experience?

He is very resilient, articulate, smart, kind and very jovial. When he had his first child, I was present with my sister at the labour ward, so I was there for most times. The baby came and we needed to go back home. So he said we should go and get some things for my sister, we were driving home so he said since we were coming back this way, you have to come with him. I said no that am not coming because I have been with you guys all day, I need to bath and have my rest and we laughed about it.

What morals have you learnt from him?

The morals I picked from him is honesty, integrity, transparency and he has a listening ear. There is no shade of grey in him.

H

ow was growing up like for you guys?

Growing up was fun, we had the most exciting childhood. I am number four while Jibson is the first and the oldest and we are six boys in the family. As you would expect, with so many boys, you would have everything, we were happy, supportive of each other; we had squabbles with each other and it wasn’t a problem at all. He had so many responsibilities as an elder brother and he spent a lot of time away from us when we were young and he went to boarding school and comes back during the holiday.

How will you describe his character?

He is loving, affectionate, and open, he is just the nicest person you can meet.

than everyone else even though we play with each other, and I win him from time to time even though he wasn’t the more athletic.

What are the morals you learnt from him?

Basically he led by example and the key was hard-work and integrity and he does not say much; he just led by example.

And the fact that I chose to become a doctor was because I want to follow in his footsteps. I visited him in the medical school and I saw him with his friends on their white clothes with big books and they look very smart. And I said I will like to be like them. And the dream and passion came in and he told me what I needed to do to become a doctor and told me how much work was involved.

What would you say to him as he turns 50?

When our dad was 50, we said he was a very old man and now you’re in that club now. You are not very old, you look young. Advancing age comes with it experience and responsibilities. I pray that these serve you right in this political career you’re embarking on in this town.

May it bring a lot of success and hopefully you will help to empower the people of this town and make life better for them.

What are your wishes for him?

I will like to say congratulations to him and his family and I wish them all the best. Hopefully we will continue to celebrate many more happy years and memory together as a family.

What morals do you think people should learn from this person?

Like I said, he is a gentle man, a loveable husband and father to his wife and children and the entire family- both the Adeyeye and Adekalu family and Ondo as well. I will like people to learn those aspects of his life.

What is the most memorable experience you’ve had with him?

When we were growing up together, Honourable happened to be the most quiet of all the children of Chief Adeyeye; he is very gentle. When you see him speaking in those days, he’s very gentle. He is an action man, he doesn’t talk much, very vocal and very intelligent as well; he interacted very well with people.

He just turned 50, what would you say to him?

I have to wish him happy birthday, many happy returns of the day. And I pray for the next 50 years to come, God will preserve his life and the relationship will be stronger. ow would you describe Dr. ‘Jibayo Adeyeye?

I had known ‘Jibayo casually in the past but we became friends 12 years ago through Insight club. And one thing I noticed is that he is a driven person, anything he decides to do, he goes for it and he goes with integrity. I have also realized that if he says something is black, you can go home to sleep. His black is never white, he is also someone who is very generous because I know he is doing a lot of scholarships. And you see people milling around him, and that is something that has made him successful in his

political career, particularly.

Now that he has turned 50, what would you say to him?

I will tell him to keep on being him, keep on being himself. He should not change now that he has joined the wisdom group; we welcome him to that group. And one thing I will tell him, I am happy that he had a church service today, he should always remember that everything that he has achieved today is through the grace of God and he should remember to give glory to God all the time

What are you wishing him?

At 50, I wish him long life, I wish him good health because without good health even if you have a billion naira, money cannot buy good health. I wish he will have joy all through his life time and for the love between him and his wife to continue to grow stronger and stronger. I wish that his children also will continue to be source of joy and blessing to him.

hat is your relationship with him?

The late mother was my sister, we are that close. I am not just his uncle but his friend; we are very, very close. He is a fantastic guy, I am proud of him, and he is upright, forthright and steadfast.

How would you describe him?

He virtually grew up in our house, he didn’t grow up in his father’s house. He grew up with the grandmother, that was in our own house. We know him very well and we have always known he will become somebody like this; we are always proud of him. Like I said, he operates on a very high moral pedestal, he is a decent person.

He has all the virtues of a leader because if he doesn’t have that, he wouldn’t have been the majority leader of Lagos State House of Assembly. Lagos is a country on its own so anybody that has held such a position in Lagos state must

hat were your experiences with Dr. ‘Jibayo Adeyeye while growing up?

He is a very wonderful brother, very loving and caring brother. He looks after us very well and we thank God for his life. I can remember so many experiences, a lot of memorable ones. To be honest, I can’t count, he has a loving attitude towards us. I can remember a particular one, when I was in primary school and he came from the university and saw me a bit worried. I had not eaten and our mom was not at home. He went to the kitchen and he cooked a very delicious meal. I ate and was so happy. And when our mom came, she couldn’t believe that my brother cooked such a delicious meal for me.

So many good times I can’t count all.

There was a time he came to my school, Federal Government College, Ido Ani with my mom’s driver to come and collect me in school. I can never forget

that experience as well. All the way from Ondo town, through Akure, Owo down to Ido Ani, he is a very amazing brother.

Apart from that, even up till now, he is equally an amazing brother. We have lost our parents, we don’t have a father, we don’t have a mother, he is always there.

people, very amazing people. I am so glad and so happy they are still in the family.

How would you describe his character?

He is a very loving man, very caring and his attitude is giving. Giving has been a part of him and he is a very wonderful person. I love him so much, he is a very good brother. If I come back to this world the second time, I would want to be his younger brother if at all I will have a brother. I love him to be my brother.

He is very good and the wife is wonderful, amazing family.

During my wife’s 40th birthday, he came all the way from Nigeria; he was the least person I was expecting to show up, but he turned up in the venue. And he surprised me with a beautiful visit.

I love him so much, he is a very good brother. He is a politician and he is doing very well. I wish him the best in life and I can see him becoming the governor of this state. He is a very good man, he has the heart for everybody. He is out to look out for everybody and he has really demonstrated that in this family.

What would you say to him as he marks his birthday?

Happy birthday to you brother. You are

such a wonderful brother. Thank you for everything you have done. Even though we don’t have a mom and dad, you are there for us; thank you so much, I love you. You are such a kind brother and I pray by the time you will be 100, we will be celebrating it and by then, I will be 92 as well; we will live together and celebrate together.

What moral lessons have you learnt from him?

He is a very intelligent brother and very accommodating. Such values are not common and today we have had over 400 people in the house from every corner of the town. He is selfless such that he can do everything for anybody.

He can give anything to anybody; he is such a very nice person. He is going to live 60,70,80,90 100 and over in good health, and me as well, I will live like that.

I learnt from him to be very accommodating, to be helpful, to be supportive, to be kind, to be giving, because giving is part of him. There is nothing in his hand that he cannot give. I love that, I appreciate that and I have taken that on board for a very long time. He is everything to me

“I

have known Dr. ‘Jibayo Adeyeye for almost 20 years now before I even got married to my husband. He has been a wonderful person; he is humble, he is indeed a father, he is a leader. Since I have known him, he has not treated me as a wife, he treats all of us wives in the family as daughters. And that’s the way our mother in-law wanted it to be. He really showed us the fatherly love and we didn’t even feel that dad and mom are no longer there.

“He will talk to us and advise us about anything. I can approach him anytime, I can go into his bedroom and can discuss my career with him because am a pharmacist. I can discuss my career with him, what my concerns are. He will be there to advise me to share his experiences with me, to help me with whatever capacity he deem fit he can help. He is indeed a role model to his younger brothers, his younger ones; he is indeed a leader.

“He is somebody you want to associate yourself with, he is somebody you would love to be part of his success and everything that he is doing. That’s why we have come this time from the UK to celebrate him, because even when I was celebrating my 40th, he was there. He flew all the way from Nigeria to the UK to celebrate with me. So I don’t see any reason why I cannot come down here with my family to celebrate with him at this point. He has been a great role model to us; I just love his humility.

“Dr. ‘Jibayo is a very humble person, he is somebody you can approach at any time and talk to. I could remember there was a particular scenario he was at a meeting with his brothers and I

And I went back and he said come back here Funke, you are part of the family, you need to sit down, you need to contribute and tell us your opinion. Why would you excuse yourself in the room as if you are not part of the family? In some family, where men in the family are discussing something like that, wives are not meant to be part of that discussion.

“That’s the kind of person he is, he is a listener and he is very humble to the core as you can just go to him for anything and he is ready to listen to you. As you can see from today’s party, he is the people’s person, no matter who you areyoung or old, he will associate with you;

that’s the kind of person he is.

“My prayer for him is that he will continue to lead us and God will continue to grant him all his heart desires. I wish him long life and prosperity in good health, lines shall continually fall in pleasant places for him, God will go ahead of him and make all rough surfaces smooth, he shall always be the head and not the tail.

ow was growing up with Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye?

Jibson as we popularly call him, is a very modest person, very humble. But I can tell you he is not street wise as we all did. He is one of a kind, he is the locus parentis in our family. He is the heir apparent to the throne.

He was always mommy and daddy’s pet.

Growing up for him was very good and I think he was born with a silver spoon. He has everything to himself, God has been with him, and everything about him is just perfect; I really thank God for him.

He is a performer and he has the grace.

Jibson is a very modest person, very down to earth. He is a very straight-forward person, some people don’t like him for that though but he is a very straight-forward person. He will tell you as it is and that has played out for him

it’s an extended family and everyone comes to him with his or her own problem. To me it was my wedding day, the day I found my heartthrob, my wife.

What are you wishing him as he turns 50?

I wish him longevity, peace that reigns.

I wish him what is contained in Psalm 91

There are lots of memorable experiences I’ve had with Jibson. To me, being an orphan, no dad, no mom and this person we are talking about inherited a lot of problems. He never knew he was quickly going to be saddled with too much problem and liability as he is carrying now. He is carrying the burden of over 50 people,

hat can you tell us about Dr. Adeyeye?

In fact, we grew up together; it’s been a very long journey. Honourable Adeyeye has always been there for all the family. He grew up as a humble person, he grew up as a gentle man that would give anything to us. There are a lot of samples I could point out: Is it about money? Is it support either psychologically or emotionally? He has always been there for everybody, there are limitless of things I can say.

What memorable experience do you have on the course of your relationship with him?

It was quite incredible. Growing up together, we had a bicycle, honourable will be driving the bicycle and I will sit on the back, we still have the pictures; that is how close we are together. We play ball together, we talked about everything, we have the chemistry as young guys growing together. His dad was younger than my dad, but at the

same time, because his dad was younger than my dad, it was more or less sociable. Definitely they have a lot of things in their house that we would like to leave our own house and go in there to take advantage of what they have. there are lots of good experiences we shared together.

What would you say to him at 50?

Age is just a number as we will say.

Then, after I turned 50, and a lot of my friends are just 35 or 40 so, I look at 50 as just number. You have the inherent ability in you to look 20, to look any years. I will always tell him don’t look 50, always look 40.

What are your wishes for him?

I wish him happy birthday. I wouldn’t want him to relent on the pillars’ stake that he has always been holding for his family. He has done well and I pray to God almighty Allah to be with him and continue to bless him for him to come out with flying colours.

What morals do you think people should learn from him?

He has a lot of things that can be inherited from him as a person. He likes to give, he likes to support. He gives you a credible and impartial advise.

People should emulate to be fair, honest, impartial and transparent because honourable will ask you all the time, what happened? And he will give you a perfect advice and 90pecent always comes out good.

hat’s your impression of the man, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye?

I knew him through his father and mother for over 35 years. His father was one of the eminent chiefs in Ondo kingdom, he died as Adaja of Ondo Kingdom. He was High Chief , Adaja from 1991 until he died. I was Chief Saro of Ondo kingdom from 1986; his father was the person that encouraged me to apply for a chieftaincy title in 1982, when it was vacant. He saw me fit for the position fortunately, I told others that I wasn’t interested and I saw other people fitter than I was. It was because of his father I had to go for it.

I became very close to him and also supported him for the title of High Chief Adaja. We worked hand-in- hand together to ensure the development of Ondo kingdom. The Civic Centre in Ondo kingdom, his father and myself scout-

ed for the place we sited it and worked towards the building and other projects too till he died.

Even how Jibayo Adeyeye became a doctor, it is said that a good tree cannot produce a bad fruit. This saying applies to Adeyeye; the mother was so useful to the community just as the father was; so I am not surprised Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye what he is today. A young medical doctor who became a politician with the aim of developing his community. I also commend his hard-work as Majority Leader for 8 good years; that shows how credible he is.

Look at the personalities that came to celebrate him. I think he should continue to show good example to the younger ones and the community at large and with that, he will be the envy of everybody.

He’s very industrious and never gives in to any setbacks. He looks like his father, apart from the tribal marks his father had, Ajibayo has the same facial

I advice that he must always remember what his parents were and what they stood for when they were alive, and he won’t go wrong when he does that. ell us what you know about Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye?

He is well known to me. I got to know him through the father, late High Chief Stephen Kolawole Adeyeye, The Adaja of Ondo Kingdom. We came to know each other at Oreretu, where I was born and his father had his business office, SOKA electronics workshop as far back as 1960s when the father was into gas refill business and later expanded to electronic business. His father’s shop was where I bought the first electronic I ever used in the year 1965. That was where I met Ajibayo and he was a very young lad by then. We grew together and he developed the interest in me and I reciprocated. And being the first son of Baba Adaja, he was very close to me.

How would you describe his childhood days?

He was very hard working man, very diligent and very respectful. He’s ambitious when he was very young and his ambition was further boosted he came back for holiday. I will invite him and give him assignment, try to get him along very well. I taught him English Language.

Through my effort and the grace of God, he was able to make the school certificate paper and JAMB and his results were very good. That’s exactly where I got into his life, helping him to overcome his problem in English language, and he will never forget it.

How will you describe his person?

Jibby is a very industrious man, who never gives in to any setback. If you look at him, he is very much like his father, he resembles his father to a fault. He has gone through medical training, he is a successful medical doctor and at a point in time, he branched into politics.

And successfull too, he was elected into the House as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and eventually became majority leader for two tenures till he came back to establish a farm at Igbado. He Is a very industrious person and he is going to make it in life, very much than his father. His father was very pragmatic and forward-looking and very helpful to his neighbours.

‘Jibayo leads a crop of children whom the parents left behind. When the parents were alive, they took very good care of their children and gave them the best education. No wonder all the children are all successful in life in their various fields of endeavour. I want to advise him now that he is back home, he has succeeded in politics, I think he still has a long way to go and he can make it if he decides to.

Can you recall any memorable experience you had with him?

When he was coming to me for coaching, I used to tell the father because the father respected me, he was older than me. His father took me as a close friend and I used to see ‘Jibayo as my own son too. Anytime I give him an assignment, he will do it and if he doesn’t do it well,I give him strokes of the cain. But I will not hide my feelings and I will tell him this is what you did that made me to flog you, this is how to do this; this is what to do.

And he will apologize and say sorry Sir. Another very interesting experience was when the father was being installed as a Chief first, as the Loboshin of Ondo and I was a member of his club, The 20 Brothers. ‘Jibayo was still very young then, he would call me uncle then and we will go out together. When his father advanced to the Adaja of Ondo kingdom, we were also together. And each time Baba Adaja would want to go out, we will go together and beat the drum. He will be very polite, and whenever I had something to do, he will always want to help me. He was very respectful and jovial.

I know him very well. Firstly I have to congratulate him for clocking 50 years and I have to wish him long life and prosperity. Firstly, I knew his father for about 40 years, when his father, late S.K. Adeyeye was The Adaja of Ondo Kingdom. I knew Dr. ‘Jibayo as the first male child of late S.K. Adeyeye. He is a very responsible man to the core, he is very respectful, obedient, diligent and he is a disciplinarian. I knew him as far back as 20 years ago or more. He is an honest man and very brilliant as a doctor, he performed very excellently in his job as a medical doctor.

During the life time of his father, he was very, very close to his dad and at that time he was so loved by his late father and so also it’s the same thing with the Ondo people. He is a lovely chap and the people of Ondo Kingdom and the community, we like him so much because he is very respectful and he doesn’t show height to anybody, he’s so gentle and he is a humble man.

I could remember when he was the majority leader in the Lagos State House of Assembly, he performed excellently well. Now he has come back to Ondo, his home state. I wish him the best of luck because he is aspiring to higher position and we the Ondo community, we are ready to clamour with him and support him in all ramifications so that he will achieve his aim. What would you advise him as he turns 50?

As he turns 50 now, I will advise that as he is growing older, he must continue to mix up with the people, the Ondo people; show love to everybody as his father did when he was alive. He should show love to everybody irrespective of religion or ethnicity. He should embrace everybody and be happy with all of us. That is my advice to him.

Do you have any memorable encounter Any memorable experience with him?

My personal relationship with him has to do with the fact that I always visit him, give him useful advice, particularly his ambition because he is a politician. I am not a politician anyway, but I normally agree to what he tends to do because he told me that he is aspiring to a high level.

I wouldn’t say that now but I pray to almighty God to grant him long life so he could achieve his aim.

Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, YEMI OLOWOLABI, a friend and colleague of Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye tells us what distinguishes the golden boy from the rest of his contemporaries….

H

ow long have you known Dr. Adeyeye and what’s your relationship with him?

I have known ‘Jibayo for a very long time, we never had any relationship. I knew him when he was in Lagos State House of Assembly; I am a Lagos-based journalist, so by virtue of my profession, I knew him by reputation. I also knew him by the reputation of his family. For instance, I knew his dad very well and also by reputation, I never had an encounter with his dad but there is a musician from my home town Idanre, who is based in Ondo, by name Francis Akintade. Akintade in every of his album, paid glowing tribute to ‘Jibayo’s dad that is late Chief Stephen Oseyemi Kolawole Adeyeye, popularly known as SOKA. In every record, every album released by Francis Akintade, he would always dedicate special song to this man called Adeyeye. So he was first Loboshin of Ondo and later became Adaja of Ondo Kindom. Even as a young man growing in my village, I had known the Adeyeyes’ by reputa-

tion. Even I had told ‘Jibayo one day that one of my children once asked me that who is this Adeye because then I was trying to teach them Idore songs especially the ones produced

by Francis Akintade. In every song, Akintade will say Kola Adeyeye, so my son actually asked me one day that dad, who is this Kola Adeyeye? So I’ve never met the man Kola Adeyeye but I knew him by reputation, in fact, I can recite several lines of Francis Akintade when he paid tribute to the late Adaja of Ondo Kingdom.

So for me as a young man, I have known this man called Soka by reputation courtesy of the lyrical quality of Akintade’s music then. But my best standout interaction with Dr. ‘Jibayo Adeyeye started during the governorship campaign especially during the primaries while we were preparing for the APC Governorship primary of Ondo State. Even though there were over 20 aspirants, ‘Jibayo and I were in the same camp that is Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s camp. So we met there regularly, we interacted regularly, frequently, on strategies and methods

on what to do to win APC’s ticket and eventually by God’s grace, our principal, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu won the primary and became the governorship flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress.

How would you describe his personality?

‘Jibayo is quite amazing in the sense that in spite of his background, he’s extremely humble. Even in the cabinet, he would always refer to everybody as sir, he’s just an amazing person. For instance, for us that are contemporaries, he would always address you with respect and agreeably for his age, he’s that tremendous instrument for a man of uncommon achievement. Give it to him, one thing you cannot take away from ‘Jibayo is that yes, his father was rich but am sure he would be richer than his father now because he’s extremely hardworking, a trained medical doctor, who forayed into politics amid his mark.

So ‘Jibayo is a man of many parts, now he’s a doctor, he is a politician; a farmer now, he also wants to be a lawyer. He is a man who has this incredible taste for knowledge. When we have issues, when we are talking, when we are debating, ‘Jibayo’s contributions are largely seminal and cerebral. He is one medical doctor that has tremendous intellectual capacity; I respect him a lot.

What would be your word of advice to

him as your contemporary?

First like they always said to me, those who did 50th birthday before me, I will also welcome ‘Jibayo to the group. Like the advice our principal gave to us when we were leaving secondary school, “you must strive and uphold the values and virtues, the values of a territory” and continue to do these things that have elevated you to this Olympian height.

At 50, ‘Jibayo has done what some 100-year olds have not achieved. At 50, he has left an incredible mark at a certain time. So, I will recommend him

to God and I will advise him to continue to live on the path of honesty, humility, dedication and commitment to the people.

What are you wishing him as he clocks 50?

I want to wish him happy birthday. I would also pray for him, using that same song from one of the very important lines Francis Akintade did for his father then.

He Is An Upright Man That Can Be Trusted - Tokunbo Adeyeye

ounger brother to Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, Mr. Tokunbo Adeyeye has described the celebrant as a complete gentleman, adding that out of everybody he has ever seen in the world, he is the only man that tells him good morning and he wouldn’t bother.

“I have trust issues with people, but when it comes to him, if he tells you A is A, and B is B, if he says no, its no and yes is yes. He would treat everybody equal even those that are not his siblings,” he said.

As Dr. Adeyeye clocks 50, Tokunbo stated that he can only be thankful to God on his behalf for keeping him alive, hale and hearty and prayed to God for His infinite mercy upon him to do more in the years ahead.

“There is one of his course mates, his name is Dr. Vincent. When they were in Medilag in Idi Araba, I visited them on vacation for about two weeks. We were just having a laugh outside before I came inside, it’s a very good experience for me, he is a nice man, that’s all I have to say. There was no way I would have had much time with him because the age difference is a lot probably my other brothers would share a lot,” he recalled.

On what he learnt from him, he said,

“Like I said, he is an upright man, I am willing and hoping seriously if I can be like him at some point. He should keep whatever he is doing up, this is the same thing the bishop was saying in the church.

“He said he came to him and asked him that 10am is too early and he told him don’t

worry if they are coming for him, they would come. I was really surprised to see that kind of crowd on a Wednesday, a work day in Ondo. And of course, the Saturday event put together by family and friends was second to none.”

He is highly cerebral and well grounded in legislative duties. Those of us who were with him at the 7th Assembly

benefited a lot from his enormous wealth of knowledge of legislative proceedings. As for me, he deserves all the accolades he is receiving today from the people of his community and Nigerians in general because he has never failed to give his best to the service of his people and humanity at large.�

I didn’t just decide to do this in the last few days, it has always been in my mind for almost 10years and since then I have decided that when I turn 50 by the grace of God, I was going to celebrate it in Ondo kingdom. And am going to give back to the community

As part of activities marking his 50th birthday celebrations, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye empowered about 700 people with cash, farming tools, fumigation tools and chemicals in his Empowerment Programme. In the following interview, he talks about what inspired him into embarking on the programme and how he plans to sustain it…..

even though what magnitude I could not say I was going to do this much. To the glory of God today, we gave empowerment to about 700 people.

About 700 people got empowered today with a minimum value of ten thousand naira each, about 120 people got twenty thousand naira each some even got twenty-five thousand naira. But the minimum was ten thousand naira. I

thank God for giving me this privilege and that is why I have christened the celebration of my 50th birthday ‘The Privileges of God.’ We know you are a member of the APC, you are a politician, how did you arrive at the number of people that benefited from the empowerment?

I don’t want to mix my thanks to God with my campaign for political office.

In choosing those that benefited today in this empowerment programme, we gave the mosques some slots, we gave the churches some slots. We gave different trade unions slots, many different socities,we gave market women slots and Farmers associations. All these people are necessary, not APC members.

And we don’t care whether they are APC members or not because all that am worried about right now is that I want to give back to my community, I want to give back to Ondo kingdom. And irrespective of whatever colouration they wear now, irrespective of any political party, they are Ondo indigene. There are a lot of non-indigenes that live in this kingdom and a lot of them benefited too.

Of course, don’t forget APC members also live here too in choosing people, there is no way you won’t choose APC members too; they constitute a very large percentage of politicians in this kingdom. .

Is this going to be a continuous thing or it’s just for this occasion?

It will be a continuous exercise not just for now. To the glory of God, am 50 years old and to the glory of God, my needs are not as much as I was when I was 40. But I will still continue to work and whatever income I get, will definitely be more than what I require. So this is going to be a continuous exercise as long as God continues to bless me. I will find it necessary to bring people together and give back to the community.

When people come to your residence, will they have access to you no matter what party they are?

Even this morning, am sure not less than 50 people saw me in the house before I came out for this. And that is almost how it is on daily basis. So I live within the community even though am a government functionary. I still live in Akure and I come back to sleep in Ondo every day, it’s for a purpose. I enjoy living amongst my people, I enjoy living within this kingdom and its more of a culture for us living to want to live within this king-

What will you say to the people that came to celebrate with you?

I thank God, it’s not everybody that enjoys the privilege of wanting to eat and inviting other to join you in eating and

they agree to come and join you in eating.

All the preparations for this started just 3 to 4 days ago and as you can see, over a thousand people gathered here today even though we have slots for 689 people that were given card to collect things.

It shows how acceptable one has been within the society, if you can call people within 72 hour and have this crowd.

What are you celebrating today?

I am celebrating my birthday today; I turned 42 years today and I give God the glory because today is an amazing day in my life.

What will you have to thank God for 42 years of life?

I have a lot to thank God for, God has been very great in my life, and He’s been very beautiful to me. I’m so happy that God is always by my side. I thank God for everything that I have achieved so far in life- good health, happiness and my beautiful wife and family, am so happy.

Can we have your brief profile sir?

I am the Chief Executive Officer of Capson Global Limited, I own the company as well and I have a Health Company in the United Kingdom and I live there.

Living in Nigeria and in the UK, what is the major difference?

To be honest, it doesn’t make any much

difference; the most important thing is individual, your person, behaviour, attitude towards everybody that comes across you and your ability to make people that come across you happy, that is the most important thing.

You could be equally very successful living in Nigeria or in the UK, but the most important thing is that you need to invest in people because when you make them happy, you are definitely going to get it back. What you sow is what you reap, so I don’t really see much difference living in any of both countries. You

You said your birthday started without you planning it?

My birthday actually started like a surprise to me, to be honest, I never planned anything even as at yesterday when we were celebrating my brother’s 50th birthday at the Civic Centre. I did not plan anything. Even when I woke up this morning, I started receiving text messages from friends, banks and well-wishers. I still did not plan anything until about 2pm and I started putting calls through to my brothers and talking to them.

Hon. Ajiboya Adeyeye who Hon. is my elder brother (same jibayo,wife parents) said you’ve come all Olufunke, the way with your family to celebrate me, let’s do someOtunba Bola thing in your house. And I said his wife I haven’t had any much plan Christy. Mrs today, I just feel like going to Akinfolarin the swimming pool and then with go to bed and sleep. He said to Celebrant me, no, let’s do something and and his told me to go and get people and put chairs out there and family people started coming. Am so happy, glad and fulfilled to see so many people and amazing people like yourself celebrating me. And I said God, it can only be you not any other person and I’m so proud of every one of you.
