Message from the 2018/2019 Chair of the CFA Board of Directors The Canadian Franchise Association’s (CFA) accomplishments over the past year are indeed notable.

Throughout the 2018 calendar year, we promoted the franchise business model, fostered the growth of our members’ franchise concepts, and addressed government policy directly impacting the industry head-on with key advocacy work.

Among the CFA’s landmark accomplishments in 2018, we worked to clearly define what we do as an Association, and for whom we exist to serve. With the unveiling of the CFA’s new branding and mission to help everyday Canadians achieve the dream of building their own business, we moved forward with the mindset of Growing Together™. By connecting everyday Canadians with the franchising opportunities offered by our more than 700 corporate members, we’re helping franchise systems across a vast array of categories to grow and prosper while putting the franchise industry as a whole on an upward trajectory.

With the appointment of Sherry McNeil to the President & CEO position in November, we set forth on a path towards both change and opportunity. Under Sherry's leadership, the CFA has begun to ramp up its strategic transformation to serve those in the Canadian franchise community by advocating for franchising, offering the best learning resources, and providing a plethora of support and growth opportunities. As highlighted throughout this report, we have laid some solid groundwork for the CFA to move forward in the right direction under Sherry’s leadership.

While we accomplished a great deal in 2018, there’s still more to be done. As part of a vibrant, growing Association, we are always looking to further enhance our members’ ability to attract quality leads, whether it be online, in print, in person, or through our new lead generation initiatives, like our Webinar Live Chats and direct email campaigns. We help you and your franchisees save money and time through a member exclusive savings program, and we continue to build on popular networking and learning events, including the CFA National Convention.

These are just a few of the exciting developments the CFA has focused on as we work to strengthen and grow our Association. This Accomplishments Report presents a more detailed summary of the CFA’s accomplishments in advocacy (page 9), lead generation (page 13), education and networking (page 19), and membership (page 25). The initiatives and accomplishments highlighted here serve as a starting point for the future of the CFA and the Canadian franchising industry.

Message from Sherry McNeil, President & Chief Executive Officer At the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA), we look back on 2018 proud of what the franchising community in Canada has achieved. In 2018 the CFA released the first-ever Franchise Forecast and Economic Impact studies, wherein our industry’s contributions to the Canadian economy were brought to the forefront.

Featured in a CBC report on franchising, the studies showed Canadians nationwide just what the franchise business model can help them achieve.

These extensive reports, which looked at both the present and future of our industry in Canada, advanced the message that the CFA continues to push forward: that the franchise model helps everyday Canadians realize the dream of building their own business. By annually contributing $96 billion to the Canadian economy, 1.8 million jobs, $61 billion in household wages, and $16 billion in federal tax revenue, the numbers show how franchising is fuelling our economy with jobs and revenue for franchisors, franchisees, and the ground-level employees that help franchise operations run smoothly.

Internally, we introduced the new CFA brand to keep this momentum going. A member-driven initiative led by the CFA Board of Directors, the CFA Branding Committee, staff, and branding agency Pigeon Brands, the initiative introduced the four new brand pillars of Advocacy, Lead Generation, Education, and Corporate Offerings to benefit our members, and advance this message even further.

As highlighted on page 13, the CFA continued to offer our extensive suite of lead generation products. Providing our members with the right tools to grow their franchise systems such as trade shows in key markets, publications, e-blasts, the LookForAFranchise.ca website, and an extensive offering of other lead generating tools, we reached more than 415,000 prospective franchisees last year.

The 2018 CFA National Convention in Ottawa brought more than 500 franchisors and franchise support services suppliers together for three days of non-stop networking events, educational learning opportunities, and engaging presentations that covered a wide range of pertinent franchise topics. At Convention, we recognized the franchise systems that have demonstrated the strongest relationships with their franchisees through our Awards of Excellence.

We celebrate these award-winning concepts on page 16. You can find more information about Convention, our first-ever golf tournaments, the CFA Holiday Luncheon, our Webinars on Wednesdays (WoW) series, and other key 2018 events and educational initiatives on page 22.

In addition, Growing Together™ became our tagline and in December 2018 we adjusted our focus to centre on our diverse community of franchise leaders. In the end, franchising is about people. Our new tagline and focus means fostering the growth of our member’s franchise concepts by opening the doors of the franchise business model to Canadians coast to coast.

Everything we do at the CFA – from advocating on the important issues impacting our industry to ensuring our members can grow and thrive with effective lead generation tools – is done with the ultimate goal of helping everyday Canadians realize the dream of building their own business. As highlighted throughout this Accomplishments Report, the CFA has, and will continue to emphasize the need for Growing Together™ with our franchise community throughout 2019 and beyond.

In 2018, we made it a priority to protect the franchise model through grassroots advocacy. #FranchiseAwareness in Ottawa helped to build relationships with the Federal and Provincial governments that will lead to more engagement, consultation, and partnership opportunities regarding

The Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) is a national, not-for-profit association of more than 700 corporate members representing more than 40,000 franchised business owners. We are the voice of the franchise community and the recognized authority on franchising in Canada. We speak for a business sector that represents every industry and touches the lives of every Canadian, in every community across the country.

In 2018, Canadian franchises contributed over $96 billion per year to our economy and created jobs for over 1.8 million people. Canadian franchises enabled 75,000 hardworking Canadians to be their own boss as the owner of their own small business franchise locations, serving their neighbours in communities from coast to coast to coast.

Recent Accomplishments As the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) looks back on 2018, we see an exciting year for both the Association and the franchising industry itself. With a mission to help everyday Canadians realize the dream of building their own business, we launched key initiatives in advocacy, education, and networking to bring the power of franchising in Canada to the forefront.

Working under the mission statement: Growing Together™, these key initiatives of 2018 were about connecting Canadians with the franchise business model, advocating on the issues that impact franchising, and delivering learning opportunities to make franchising stronger.

ADVOCATED FOR THE FRANCHISE BUSINESS MODEL

With a mission to help everyday Canadians realize the dream of building their own business, the CFA made it a priority in 2018 to fight to protect the franchise business model through extensive advocacy efforts.

• Supported the passing of the Making Ontario Open for Business Act (Bill 47). As part of the CFA’s commitment to creating an environment where franchise businesses can thrive, we backed Bill 47, which repealed a number of burdensome aspects of Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act. • Received an Ontario grant under the Employment Standards Training and Education Program (ESTEP). The CFA partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Labour to raise awareness of employer responsibilities under the Employment Standards Act (ESA).

• Submitted comments on B.C. Employment Standards Review. When the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) released a 400-page report with nearly 80 tentative recommendations to government for amendment of their Employment Standards Act, the BCLI requested feedback from stakeholders. We submitted a written response which aligned with those previously submitted in Ontario and Alberta during their respective employment standards reviews.

• Submitted comments on B.C. Labour Code.

We joined a network of B.C. businesses to produce joint-submissions for commenting on the province’s mandate to update their labour and employment laws. We helped identify areas that require improvement due to the modern and ever-changing workplace.

• Released the first ever Economic Impact Report on Canadian franchising. We partnered with the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis (CANCEA) to produce the CFA’s Economic Impact Report, which presented an overview of franchising’s contributions to the Canadian economy.

• Consulted with Ontario Government on Retail Cannabis Distribution. Our ‘Frannabis’ Task Force advocated for the franchise industry to operate cannabis retail stores in Ontario following the federal government’s legalization of recreational cannabis.

• Held Vital Meetings Coast to Coast. The CFA took to the East Coast to meet with Deputy Ministers of Business, Labour, Finance, Industry, and others in Newfoundland, P.E.I., and Nova Scotia. These proactive government meetings built on similar meetings held in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan earlier in the year.

• Raised #FranchiseAwareness on Parliament Hill and in Queen’s Park. We celebrated Franchise Awareness Day on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and at Queen’s Park in Toronto to connect face-to-face with politicians to talk about the importance of franchising.

• Submitted comments on class actions.

Following a Law Commission of Ontario (LCO) review of class actions in Ontario, the CFA submitted comments on the review, suggesting that Ontario’s class proceedings statute address national class actions in a way that fosters the continued growth of the franchise business model.

When it came to lead generation in 2018, the CFA strengthened our brand, shared success stories with millions of Canadians, and developed new ways to tell the story of franchising.

• Expanded our reach into Saskatchewan with a special insert about franchising in the Regina Leader Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix, enabling our members to reach more than 3,500 prospects in the province.

• Unveiled the CFA’s new brand purpose and mission. At the 2018 CFA National Convention, we revealed our new logo, Growing Together™ tagline, and purpose and mission statements. Our rebrand involved a complete visual overhaul of all of our print and digital properties, and an increased focus on telling the stories of everyday Canadians in franchising.

• G rew our social media following by over 200% to more than 7,500 followers on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. We also started using Snapchat during our live events to create more engagement.

CONNECTED PEOPLE WITH OPPORTUNITY

• Promoted our members to more than 415,000 prospective franchisees in 2018 through our print, digital and in-person lead generation products.

• Generated nearly 102 million media impressions and 200 positive news stories about franchising. Working with National Sponsor Fishman Canada, we developed a year-long public relations campaign focused on sharing franchise success stories. We were featured in outlets like CBC, CTV, Global News, Globe & Mail, Toronto Sun, and more!

• Hosted Ottawa Franchise Week, our first-ever virtual tradeshow, for prospective franchisees in the Ottawa area.

FOSTERED EDUCATION AND NETWORKING

Through wide-reaching educational programs, trade shows, and networking events, the CFA helped connect our corporate members with opportunities to learn and grow.

• I ntroduced VIP Panel Discussion at the Franchise Canada Show. In Toronto, attendees of the Franchise Canada Show learned from franchise consultancy, finance, and legal experts through the Ask the Experts: VIP Panel Discussion.

• A ligned all prospective franchisee focused products and services under the Franchise Canada master brand. This brand restructuring helps prospective franchisees find all of our resources in one convenient location: www.FranchiseCanada.

Online. Not only does this provide a cohesive brand experience to prospective franchisees across all of our products and services, but it also makes it simpler for them to associate the Franchise Canada brand with the Canadian Franchise Association.

• Hosted Franchise Law Day. Nearly 100 CFA members attended the 2018 Franchise Law Day where they learned about the most critical and pressing legal developments to provincial and federal laws impacting the Canadian franchise environment.

• Launched the Franchise Canada Chats… podcast featuring weekly in-depth interviews with franchise industry movers and shakers who share their challenges, successes, and tips for other aspiring franchisors and franchisees.

• Hit the Links Across Canada. Our annual Golf Tournaments returned to Ontario, British Columbia, and for the first time ever, Moncton, New Brunswick.

These tournaments provided franchise leaders with a fantastic networking opportunity.

• Launched Franchise Canada TV featuring behind-the-scenes video interviews with franchisors and franchisees profiled in the pages of the latest issue of Franchise Canada Magazine.

• Spread Holiday Cheer. Over 100 CFA members came together to celebrate the holiday season and network with industry peers in a relaxed and fun environment at our Holiday Luncheon at the Mississauga Convention Centre.

• Relaunched LookforaFranchise.ca with a slick new look and user interface to deliver more leads to our members.

• G rew our audience of prospective franchisees by more than 46% by increasing our reach on social media, sharing success stories, and developing targeted campaigns to grow our e-mail lists.

• Took to the Capital for the 2018 CFA National Convention. More than 500 delegates, franchise experts, keynote speakers, and new and emerging franchisors attended Canada’s largest franchise education and networking event in Ottawa.

• Mixed and Mingled. Following successful Franchise Canada Shows across the country, our members had the opportunity to connect at our cocktail receptions.

Advocacy & Government Relations The Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) is dedicated to the protection of the franchise model through grassroots political advocacy. In April 2018, the CFA’s Franchise Awareness Day in our nation’s capital organized in-person meetings between senior executives at CFA-member franchise systems and their local politicians.

Meetings were then followed by an evening cocktail reception, where politicians and their staff networked with franchise business leaders in an effort to build bridges between franchise leaders and government to raise awareness about the importance of franchising in Canada. This proved to be a valuable tool in the CFA’s advocacy efforts when it came to critical legislation impacting the franchise industry.

After years of consultation and voicing the concerns of the franchise community and the broader business community, the CFA is committed to fostering strong relationships with the government to create an environment where business can thrive.

The CFA’s Key Advocacy Accomplishments Conservative Government Overturns Previous Liberal Government’s Labour Changes

After consultation and voicing the concerns of the franchise community and the broader business community, the CFA and its members are committed to creating an environment where business can thrive.

Late 2018, the Ontario government passed the ‘Making Ontario Open for Business Act’, fulfilling one of Premier Doug Ford’s leading campaign promises to make Ontario “open for business” once again.

The Making Ontario Open for Business Act enables Ontario employers to boost job creation and investment by cutting unnecessary regulations and repealing some of the most burdensome aspects of Bill 148. Amendments repealed include: Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA)

• Maintaining Ontario’s current minimum wage at $14 per hour until 2020, to be followed by increases tied to inflation • Replacing the current Personal Emergency Leave rules with three days for personal illness, three days for family responsibilities, and two days for bereavement • Repealing scheduling provisions to allow for more flexibility for employers and employees • Repealing the averaging public holiday pay formula prescribed by Bill 148 and returning to the previous prorating formula • Repealing equal pay for equal work on the basis of employment status and assignment employee status, but maintaining the requirement for equal pay on the basis of sex • Repealing the requirement for the employer to prove that an individual is not an employee where there is a dispute over whether the individual is an employee Labour Relations Act, 1995 (LRA)

• Repealing rules that forced card-based certification on the workers in home care, building services, and temporary help agencies, and will return to vote through a secret ballot • Repealing rules that force an employer to provide a union with employees’ personal information if 20% of workers showed interest in joining a union

• Reinstating pre-Bill 148 test and preconditions for the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) to certify a union as a remedy for employer misconduct • Repealing the power of the OLRB to review and consolidate newly certified bargaining units with existing bargaining units CFA Submits Comments on B.C. Employment Standards Review

In the summer of 2018, the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) released a 400-page report with nearly 80 tentative recommendations to government for amendment of their Employment Standards Act. BCLI requested feedback from stakeholders and the public by August 2018.

The CFA submitted a written response which aligned with those previously submitted in Ontario and Alberta during their respective employment standards reviews. Thankfully, BCLI’s report had no recommendations suggesting a joint-employer designation.

After a full review and consideration of all submissions, BCLI will amend their recommendations accordingly and submit to government. The CFA will keep members updated as they progress on this file, and will continue to advocate for policies that allow the franchise industry to thrive.

CFA Submits Comments on B.C. Labour Code Review Panel

As part of the province’s mandate to update their labour and employment laws, the B.C. government appointed an independent review panel to review B.C.’s labour code and identify areas that require improvement due to the modern and ever-changing workplace.

The Panel held a first round of consultations in the Spring of 2018, and after consideration of input from those consultations, released a full report with 29 tentative recommendations to the public, requesting another round of consultation.

The CFA joined a network of other B.C. businesses to produce joint-submissions for both rounds of consultation and are confident the government is hearing the business industry’s perspective.

The CFA Awarded Ontario Grant to Produce Employment Standards Training and Education Program (ESTEP)

CFA Consults with Ontario Government on Retail Cannabis Distribution

The CFA was one of four recipients to be awarded an Ontario grant under the ESTEP initiative to produce various materials designed to help franchise business employers better understand their obligations under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA).

The key objective of the ESTEP program is to expand the scope of the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s existing education and outreach efforts by funding external organizations to develop educational programs aimed at educating employers and employees within different industries.

The CFA officially launched their Employment Standards and Education Program for Ontario Franchised Businesses initiative shortly after our 2018 National Convention. Materials available to members and the broader public include a detailed and informative Tool Kit, articles in our Franchise Voice and Franchise Canada magazines, webinars and seminars presented by employment and labour lawyers, as well as other materials to help make Ontario’s labour laws more accessible and easier to navigate.

Late 2018, the CFA struck a ‘Frannabis’ Task Force in response to the legalization of cannabis in Canada, and the preliminary stages of allowing recreational retail cannabis stores in Ontario. The CFA felt it necessary to be ahead of the curve on advocating for the franchise business model’s place in the retail market.

In the wake of Bill 36, Cannabis Statute Law Amendment Act, 2018, the CFA submitted written comments to the Standing Committee on Social Policy, emphasizing our support of the lack of restrictions within the statute, therefore allowing the franchise industry to operate recreational cannabis retail locations within the province of Ontario. The emerging Canadian recreational cannabis market provides an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurs, including franchisors and franchisees, to enter into a rapidly growing industry.

The Government of Ontario has decided that it would allow only 25 retail store authorizations before December 13, 2019 and that these 25 applicants would be selected by way of a random lottery. On January 11, 2019, the 25 lottery winners were selected.

CFA Commissions First Ever Economic Impact Report on Canadian Franchise Industry

The CFA will keep members updated as this process continues.

The CFA joined forces with an economic research firm to produce the first ever report of its kind in Canada. The CFA’s Economic Impact Report presents an overview of the state of the nation for franchising in Canada. Prepared for the CFA by the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis (CANCEA), this report gives an in-depth look at what’s happening in Canadian franchising –from the economy to employment to growth both national and provincially.

CFA Consults on Class Action Review

The CFA had also commissioned Canada’s first ever Franchise Forecast report, detailing franchise growth across the country in 2018 by sector and province.

The report presents an outlook of franchising in the Canadian economy in 2018. For franchisors operating in Canada, the information is vital when planning expansion efforts and modeling system-wide performance.

Last year, the Law Commission of Ontario (LCO) took on the first independent, evidence-based, and comprehensive review of class actions in Ontario since the enactment of the Class Proceedings Act in 1993. During this period, class actions have grown dramatically in volume, complexity, and impact in Ontario and across Canada.

In March 2018, the LCO released a consultation paper asking for submissions from the public. The CFA participated in this consultation, ultimately submitting that Ontario’s class proceedings statute address national class actions in two distinct ways.

First, Ontario should adopt the approach of other provinces in setting out the standard for an Ontario court to assume jurisdiction over a national class action. Second, Ontario should also adopt the approach of other provinces in expressly permitting Ontario courts to decline to certify a class proceeding where one already exists in another province.

CFA Meets with Ministers and Politicians Throughout Canada

The CFA continued to advocate for the franchise business model with key meetings held between franchise industry leaders, politicians, and ministers throughout the country. First, the CFA took to the East Coast to meet with Deputy Ministers of Business, Labour, Finance, Industry, and others in Newfoundland, P.E.I., and Nova Scotia. These proactive government meetings built on similar meetings held in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan earlier in the year.

On April 24 2018, the CFA brought their advocacy efforts to Parliament Hill for #FranchiseAwareness Day. Organized by the CFA, Franchise Awareness Day was designed to educate government about the importance of the franchise business model in Canada by connecting Members of Parliament (MPs) from across Canada with more than 75 senior franchise business leaders.

From Caucus meetings to one-on-one meetings to our cocktail reception, it was a day marked by connection, education, and empowerment. Together, participating franchise members were able to express the ongoing role franchising has played in their lives and their communities.

Raising the Profile of Franchising In 2018, the CFA reached more Canadians than ever through our lead generation products, media relations efforts, and social media campaigns.

Tying these elements together was the CFA’s new brand, which is focused on everyday Canadians who achieve their dreams of business ownership through franchising. Whether it’s in the pages of our magazine, a podcast episode, a social post, or a media pitch, we’ve been putting a face to franchising by sharing success stories.

Building the Franchise Canada Brand

In 2018, we reached more than 415,000 prospective franchisees through our lead generation products, which were consolidated under the Franchise Canada banner to create a more powerful and consistent brand.

As part of this rebranding, LookforaFranchise.ca was relaunched with a slick new design and user-friendly interface. We also introduced new Franchise Canada products, including the Franchise Canada Chats… podcast and Franchise Canada TV, enabling us to share even more inspiring franchise success stories using new and innovative mediums.

Finally, we expanded our reach into new geographic regions in 2018. In October, we published a special insert about franchising in the Regina Leader Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix, enabling our members to reach prospects in Saskatchewan, which was identified as fertile land for franchise growth in the CFA’s 2018 Franchise Forecast. We also hosted our first-ever virtual tradeshow, featuring a series of webinars hosted by members looking to expand in the Ottawa area.

Through these initiatives, we’ve been able to amplify our brand across Canada and inspire more Canadians than ever to achieve their dreams of franchise ownership!

Celebrating Franchise Excellence Our annual awards program celebrates the foundation of Canadian franchising by recognizing excellence across the industry. Participation is free and exclusive to CFA members, with winners receiving free editorial with the CFA, bonus media coverage, and a powerful marketing tool to recruit franchisees.

The awards program includes the Awards of Excellence, Franchisees’ Choice Designation, and Recognition Awards. New in 2019, we’ve also added the Franchisee of the Year Award.

CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising

The Awards of Excellence are the pinnacle of franchise achievement in Canada and are presented annually to franchise systems that have demonstrated the strongest relationships with their franchisees. Franchise brands compete through an independent survey that evaluates them in franchisee relations, leadership, marketing, training and support, and more.

These awards are split into Traditional Franchises (those with brick and mortar locations) and Non-Traditional Franchises (those that are mobile or home based) to recognize the range of franchise opportunities on the market.

Franchisees’ Choice Designation

The Franchisees’ Choice Designation (FCD) recognizes franchises with exceptional rankings in franchisee satisfaction. Recipients are determined by the scores they received in the awards survey. Education & Networking The CFA is made up of a community of franchise leaders and small business owners who are committed to sharing best practices, amplifying the understanding and power of franchising in Canada, and ultimately, Growing Together™ by promoting franchise excellence through best practices. In 2018, more than 250 CFA members contributed their knowledge to our many events, publications, and franchise resources. Here are some of the highlights from the past year:

Introducing the CFA’s Employment Standards Training and Education Program

In 2018, the CFA was one of four organizations to receive a grant under the Ontario government’s Employment Standards Training and Education Program (ESTEP) to produce various materials to educate franchise business employers about their obligations under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA).

Launched in September, our ESTEP program is designed to educate and inform the Canadian franchise community on their rights and obligations under Ontario’s latest labour and employment laws.

As part of our ESTEP resources, the CFA is proud to provide online modules, print articles, webinars, and in-person seminars to help make Ontario’s new laws more accessible and easier to understand. To date, 210 participants have registered for ESTEP webinars and seminars. The CFA will continue these educational resources throughout 2019.

Franchising in Canada: Economic Impact and Forecast Canadian Franchise Industry Economic Outlook

The CFA is committed to helping our members grow their businesses by providing the most current data on franchising across Canada.

2018 February 2018

In 2018, we published our first-ever Economic Impact Report and Franchise Forecast in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis (CANCEA), a leading economic research firm.

The reports contain information about franchising’s contribution to Canada’s GDP, as well as its projected growth in each province, territory and major industry sector.

This information not only helps our members with their expansion plans, it gives us the data we need to position franchising as a critical economic driver across the country when we speak to media and government.

New VIP Panel Discussion at the Franchise Canada Show

In October, we introduced the Ask the Experts: VIP Panel Discussion to our Franchise Canada Show. Exclusive to attendees who pre-registered for the Franchise Canada Show, each panel discussion is led by a team of franchise experts, including a franchise consultant, financial and legal experts, and an experienced franchisor, and is intended to help attendees learn more about the franchise business model and connect with leaders in the field.

Since launching, over 320 attendees have pre-registered to attend a VIP Panel Discussion at one of our Franchise Canada Show’s. In addition to our regular shows in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, this year, we are also bringing the Franchise Canada Show to Edmonton.

CFA Franchise Law Day

Nearly 100 CFA members attended the 2018 Franchise Law Day where they learned about the most critical and pressing legal developments to provincial and federal laws impacting the Canadian franchise environment. Throughout the one-day event, 36 of Canada’s leading franchise law experts shared their knowledge during plenary, concurrent, and roundtable sessions.

2018 CFA National Convention

In 2018, the CFA National Convention returned to Ottawa with a new look.

More than 500 delegates, franchise experts, keynote speakers, and new and emerging franchisors attended Canada’s largest franchise education and networking event in the nation’s capital.

Last year’s festivities brought together the best of the best in Canadian franchising for three days of non-stop networking events, educational learning opportunities, and engaging keynote presentations led by Charlwood Pacific Group’s CEO & Chairman, U. Gary Charlwood, sales expert Todd Cohen, and Nurse Next Door and LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic co-founder, John DeHart.

In-between networking opportunities, roundtable discussions and concurrent sessions, the CFA unveiled to delegates our new brand, created in partnership with the CFA Branding Committee and branding agency, Pigeon Brands.

The camaraderie was outstanding with everyone being so willing to help. Holiday Luncheon

By popular demand, the CFA brought back its Holiday Luncheon in late 2018.

Over 100 CFA members came together to celebrate the holiday season and network with industry peers in a relaxed and fun environment. Guests were treated to lunch, drinks, prizes, and a special performance by international violinist, Grenville Pinto.

CFA Golf Tournaments

In support of the CFA’s advocacy efforts, our annual Golf Tournaments returned last June to Ontario, British Columbia, and for the first time ever, Moncton, New Brunswick. Exclusive to franchisors and industry suppliers, our Golf Tournaments are designed to help franchise leaders make substantial business connections and support advocacy. In 2018, nearly 200 golfers made their way onto the greens, competed in friendly competition, and networked with esteemed industry experts.

Membership: Year in Review CFA welcomed 88 new franchise brands and 44 new suppliers to its growing membership in 2018.

Member Satisfaction

We’re here to help our members grow their businesses. That’s why we offer opportunities for members to provide ongoing feedback. From check-in calls from staff, to online survey requests, your feedback ensures we fully understand your needs so we can continue Growing Together™.

In 2018, we continued to offer the Net Promoter Score (NPS) survey as a member communication tool. This quick, two-question survey is sent out quarterly and empowers CFA members to provide ongoing feedback. This enables us to take timely action to continually improve your membership experience.

And your feedback has been positive! Our most recent NPS was 61, which is considered to be a “world class” score and an indicator of exceptional client satisfaction. We’re performing 144% higher than the average NPS score of B2B organizations comparable in size to the CFA (average B2B company overall NPS is between 20-25).

Not only are we performing favourably compared to others in our industry, we’re also improving over time. When we launched the survey in 2016, our first quarterly Net Promoter Score was 42. By the end of 2018, our quarterly rating was 61, representing a 19% increase in member satisfaction since we first launched!
