This catalog of works showcases the assemblage of my projects in my undergraduate studies at Texas A&M pursuing a Bachelor of Environmental Design. Each project explores a unique topic in the architecture field. As a result, each project is displayed with its unique drawings, renders, diagrams, and images to resolve the given topic. The extrapolation of each project has enabled me to explore my inner thoughts and express my ideas and visions through the seen images. Each line and pixel in this portfolio serves a key role in displaying a thorough project. The pursuit of these images produced countless iterations with many hours inputted of development with continued discussions with professors and colleagues. These projects have challenged me technically and conceptually. I have a deep love for each project as they are an expression of me, my thoughts, my ideas, and my designs as an architect.

[ ://FLOWS ] The premise of the project started with research on different types of flows, including people, resources, data, services and frequencies. These have been categorized into 3 layers, which are defined as the Hidden, Seen, and Unseen. After defining these, a tension was discovered of the incomplete perception of the city. As people are more consciously aware of the layer of the Seen, consisting of the more tangible form of flows, which includes private and public transportation. The Hidden defined as the layer mostly found underground and consisting of a more diverse type of flows, including oil, natural gas, fiber-optic, and electricity. And the layer of the Unseen being defined as the non tangible entities that work as services for the people, such as WIFI, cellular coverage, and radio towers. Through the research of networks and flow along

with mapping of the city of Bryan. The perception of the horizontal organization of the city, and we found vertical spatial relations through the idea of the unseen and hidden flows of the city (including services, technology, and data) was discov-

ered. The project seeks to explore a speculative a new model of public space showcasing the unseen aspects of the city. The public space is the main driver of the project in order to produce space for every day activities. By having ephemeral public spaces which make up 60% of the project. The strategies of network, stacking and patterns were used in order to formalize the unseen & hidden layers of the city. In order to flip the current hierarchical organization of the city. Society as a whole perceives flows as services and as a secondary entity. This project attempts to change that perception. The project is based on duality of layers; network and flows (including non-human space), day & night duality, built & unbuilt. The intervention will serve as a way to extrapolate on the layers of infrastructure the city that are non-physical and hidden by formulating them on our site. By the introduction of the service tower this will be accomplished.

[ SWEEPS ] The project began by using ideas and objects from my previous two projects. Project one being my indexicality model which is based from Richard Neutra’s Case study house 13.

Project Two: Which is a digital sectional object that is formulated by using the ideas of splitting and Booleans by Gordon Matta Clark and introducing hi-fi elements of architecture such as poche, and figure from Middleton Park by Edwin Lutyens to a lo-fi suburban house in order to active the sectional cut. The post digital operation of the sweep manipulates figure digitally and creates a figural edge.

Which translates 2 dimensional poche into a 3-dimensional object. These objects begin and end in different ontologies.

Which create a combination of objects that become interconnected with a sweep that act as an external digital joint.

And due to the nature of the sweep the figure is in a state of

constant motion, the object only becomes static through the plans and section which reveal the cross-section curve is derived from poche elements from Middleton Park and my sectional object. All while the sweeps activate the sections and the plans.

This digital operation of the sweep only exists in a digital realm.

And I use the sweep as a vital aspect to my overall project. This creates the digital reality that my project conveys. Which goes into the idea of a digital reality and using that to get a new agency in architecture. By showing the notion that architecture can possibly be articulated through a simple digital operation.

The overall notion of the sweep forces the issue of transmission of authorship from the user to the software due to the software’s restriction in generating the sweep itself. Only leaving the manipulation of direction, scale, and the cross-section curve to the user. Authorship fluctuates between machine and architect.

[ REHABILITATION CENTER ] A prison that holds AI, both physical (robots) and non-physical (data, viruses, glitches) and human prisoners and privileges rehabilitation and reintegration over punishment. This incorporates the ideas of Foucault in which the establishment is not focused on the modern thought of incarceration being centered around locking away members of society but through the goal of beginning their rehabilitation into society. This is contextualized in a future where surveillance has advanced to the point of accurate predictive capacities by AI, but also raises issues of privacy, as seen in the concept of 1984’s “thought police.” This project will also investigate hierarchy and corruption within this hypothetical prison system and how it is reflected in the formal realization. In order to rehabilitate the subjects within the prison, we will use smooth and hard surface modeling to shape an experience that is emphasized by the distortion of scales

and the augmentation of reality. Reyner Banham’s premise of architecture having a responsibility to society allows for exploration of new spaces that are generated to further the assimilation and reintegration of prisoners into society. Iteration I is focused more on the rehabilitation of the prisoners. The aesthetic agency addresses the societal perception of prisons as we move to change towards a focus on rehabilitation. The aesthetic also confronts the reintegration into society in its context within the city. The hard surfaces seek to acknowledge the urban condition while confronting Jacques-Francois Blondel’s architecture terrible in finding its place in the cityhis concept concerns the issue of prisons admonishing the citizenry when situated in the urban fabric. The algorithm facilitates the aesthetic agency as it wraps and pervades throughout the structure, shrouding and revealing the object within as deemed necessary according to the privacy.

[ INTERSECTING DATUMS ] The proposal for this project is to make the existing museum into a bridge connection between Citudella Park and the Born Neighborhood. This is accomplished by introducing two intersecting datums that originate from two regulating lines.

One from the Cathedral in order to signify its historical importance to its relative context. The second will be from the Born neighborhood from a prominent corridor which will intersect the building perpendicular. This intersections will serve as the main entrance in order to establish a straight path between Born, the Building, and Citudella Park. The progress diagrams show case how the final form was establish from the interesting datums. As the datums run erect through the building it extrudes outward to establish hierarchy to the building and serve as the main entrance. And additional bottom floor would be made in order to properly house all of the programmat-

ic needs that the museum will have. However, by adding the additional below ground floor there it would raise some logistical problems. Primarily, there would be a lack of natural light at the below ground floor. However, this was solved with the introduction of light wells around the perimeter of the building.

The datum that intersect the building will be made of glass. In order to give hierarchy importance, while also allowing natural light to penetrate the building. The mesh like shading device is added in order to make a more comfortable experience inside. The glass will also establish straight visual point of view for individuals. So people on the park could see through the building unto the Born neighborhood and vice versa. The main program of the building will serve as an exhibition space. However, it will also provide a fabrication lab for when the museum is closed civilians would still be able to use the museum.

[ CRIME AS ORNAMENTATION ] This project speculates on a prison in the post-singularity era.

The prison is occupied by both humans and AI who have committed cyber crimes, and is governed by a council from both species. As a prisoner is admitted to this center, they are interviewed and assessed based on the severity of their crimes and their initial degree of contrition. Once this information has been obtained, they are sent to a specific chamber of the prison and exposed to a customized VR simulation. This reflects Foucault’s assertion within Discipline and Punish, in which the prison begins to operate in the same typology of the factory or school where one is subjected to the normalizing gaze. In creating this new prison typology, we are reinterpreting Foucault’s anthropocentric basis to fit the conditions of a post-singularity and post-anthropocentric society where the effects reach both human and AI. This model is based in cities and

can be implemented in multiple locations throughout the world as needed. Each model will be tethered to the city but floating above it, and thus acts as both a panopticon and a reflection of crime rates within the city. The wires that tether the object act as data collection structures and can grow and stretch as needed to better absorb information from points throughout the city. The physicality of these tethers is based on the psychological phenomenon known as the Hawthorne effect in which individuals modify an aspect of their behavior in response to their awareness of being observed. The algorithm acts not only as habitable space to define each chamber, but also as a signal jammer to block unauthorized communications from entering or leaving the center. Because of the algorithm’s computational nature, its form fluctuates based on the density of prisoners within the prinson as well as different crime levels throughout its context.

The aesthetic agency is realized through an interpretation of ornament through VR generation. This is articulated through the appearance of sculpted surfaces organized into a hierarchy of elements read as a continuous whole. This ornamental evolution follows a grotesque interpretation in which fear and awe are intertwined through the asymmetrical expression of over-exaggerated repetitive elements. In this manner, the influx of crime data gathered from the city generates further ornamentation.

This ornamentation shifts past notions of baroque and rococo and begins to define its own style, moving forward operating in the post-anthropocene. These concepts are represented through the form of a narrative collage in which the progression through the experience of the prison is displayed in a digital reinterpretation of the collage. The collaged images become something else—a new form that is neither representative of nor derivative of the original architecture that seeks to further dilute reality.

[ LIGHT_SCAPE ] The project was started by analyzing the direct context of the site in regards with the location of our building. We were interested in the landmarks and monuments near the harbor, and we utilized some of these forms as interlocking parts to formulate the mass of our building. This process also reflected the connections of the program and the different experiences of the interior spaces through interactions with light. We were also interested in exploring the notion of color and light and its implications to space. The building is a mix use building, that consists of a yacht club, main lobby, exhibition spaces, café/bar, restaurant, small auditorium, and a boutique hotel with an exterior terrace. The site was modified by the addition of a roundabout, designing the landscape of the site around our building by following projections used from the intervention as it follows the same visual language

along with the expansion of the parking lot space. The project is an exploration of light and color to showcase the building in its lighting expression. Each area of space has a unique color of light, based on the programmatic need of the space. We chose to use the fundamental notions of light and color in a conjoined relationship with the form of our building due to the ability and nature of light and color to change the atmosphere of a space. Light and space are used to create artworks that engage viewers with the limits and wonder of human perception. Colors of the light begin to merge and blend with each other especially through the vertical space of the atrium. The same notion of light and color is translated to the facade with the streaks of light offsetting in all facades of the building. A duality of the building is evident at night, when the visual emission of the different colors from within begin radiate outwards.

[ INHABITING ABSTRACTION ] This project proposes housing models inclusive of working wage families and individuals in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

Six percent of annual population growth and cost of living increases is limiting, even eliminating, housing options that are attainable to a diverse cross section of the population. The situation is comparable to other university cities around the country and small cities in Texas in close proximity to major metropolitan areas. This project is critical of housing models that segregates people based on economic or identity profile.

Instead, the project advocates for designs that increase density and privilege collectivity, challenging dominant suburban models based on detached single family houses on subdivided lots which are socially and ecologically destructive. In order to challenge the norm of current communities. There is a need to redefine how we live, the formation of new subjectivities and

communities. As an experiment in the design process, and unique vantage point to evaluate the work, the project is captured in a capriccio scenographic drawing. As the five-week design investigation ends, the studio environment simulates a scaled model of contemporary domestic life. With the drawing, each desk is an individual component that embodies a residential plot. Displaying the organization and relationship of the component to their respective adjacent areas. Establishing a part-to-whole relationship in order to highlight the modern reality of the interaction of neighborhood communities in an urban context. This begins to challenge the recognized community setting and reconsider ways in which shared space and community outreach can be expressed. It models new modes in which communities and neighborhoods could possibly interact with one another in order achieve a more socially sustainable neighborhood.

[ ENTOURAGE ] T his project proposes to create various digital depictions of a populated architectural drawing through the usage of the entourage in architecture. Entourage in architecture is the usage of people, and other inanimate objects in architectural drawings to showcase a set building/project in our reality which has traditionally been used to convey scale.

This research is important because it will showcase a new drawing convention in architecture of the populated drawing and a recent phenomenon of viewing them at a larger scale through the agency of the entourage and its implication and connection to the normality and biases of a society. Presenting entourage in a new light by progressing it beyond its traditional use.

This project builds upon past research done in the architectural field by using the research of populated drawings, mainly Dora Epstein Jones “Little People Everywhere: The

Populated Plan”, as a guide that will influence the final drawing will exhibit. And drawing references of previous populated drawings such as “The Garden of Earthly Delights Triptych”

by Hieronymus Bosch and “A Situation Constructed from Loose and Overlapping Social and Architectural Aggregates”

by MOS architects. These drawings show strategic ways of using the entourage based on a subject/idea. Which will further the ideas of using entourage as an entity beyond scale.

The expected outcome of this research project is to produce digital drawings based on a new drawing convention in architecture known as a populated drawing. Then drawing a connection between the entourage and its implication to society and emphasizing the ability of these drawings to make a type of proclamation. The project will exhibit the authorship of an architect through the drawings.
