SUPPORT FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS

Sign up to volunteer, donate, and get mental health support resources: fpcsanantonio.org/relief.

The unprecedented flooding of the Guadalupe River in the early morning hours of July 4th uprooted the lives of families in Kerrville, Ingram, Hunt, and surrounding communities. Over 130 people lost their lives. And now, these river communities, beloved by all Texans, are experiencing grief and trauma that will have lasting effects.

First Presbyterian Church responded by first reaching out to our own members who were directly affected by the flood. Then, in the weeks following, groups from our Young Adult Community deployed to the Hill Country to clean out houses, clear debris, establish relationships, and contribute to logistical operations.

Currently, the disaster response is moving from one phase – search and rescue, cleanup, and debris removal – to another involving long-term rebuilding (both physical and spiritual). And in this phase, community leaders remind us, “This is a marathon, not a sprint!”

In the Hill Country

1. Join a rebuilding deployment – Assist in construction with partner organizations.

2. Serve in a staging area – Sort and manage building supplies.

3. Be part of an emotional/spiritual care team – Join our care teams for day trips to support those experiencing ongoing trauma.

In San Antonio

1. Comfort Kits - Help put together ‘Comfort Kits’ that our emotional/spiritual care teams will take to groups in the Hill Country. Donate items for our first packing event on Sunday, September 7, from 8:30 AM - Noon in the Geneva Room. Amazon Wishlist at https://amzn.to/4mkkzoS.

2. Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disasters TrainingPrepare for future disasters with our upcoming practical and spiritual first aid training sessions. Are you ready to be a part of the rebuilding? It might be a life-changing experience!

SERVE LOCAL

Get involved and make an impact in your community through a variety of service opportunities. Here’s how you can contribute:

• Contact Lindsay Selli at lindsays@fpcsat.org for more information.

SERVE GLOBAL

Engage in meaningful global missions and prayer initiatives. Here’s how you can participate:
