Come, Holy Spirit! One Worship on Pentecost Sunday
In Acts 2, the early followers of Jesus were gathered together in one place when suddenly the Holy Spirit came upon them like the rush of a mighty wind. Tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them, and they began to speak in different languages—so that people from every nation could hear the gospel in their own tongue. The result was a miraculous, Spirit-filled unity: one gospel, one church, one Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed in many voices.
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit so saturated the first followers of Jesus that they went out from the upper room into the streets of Jerusalem and then around the world to proclaim the Good News and life-changing power of Jesus. And from the day of Pentecost-on, the followers of Jesus started doing the kinds of things Jesus did.
• They stopped hiding and boldly proclaimed the Gospel in public—in spite of beating, imprisonment, torture, banishment, and even death.
• They healed the sick, they raised the dead, they spoke in tongues, and they cast out demons.
• They traveled farther than most people of their age would have ever considered— spreading the gospel from Spain to India.
The Spirit gave them power and supernatural courage, and they just kept going farther and farther. Jesus said, “Go into all the world…” and the Holy Spirit “cranked the engine.” Pentecost was the birth of the Church—a moment when the Holy Spirit empowered diverse people to become one family in Christ. It serves as a beautiful reminder that God’s Spirit is still at work, drawing generations and cultures together into one body to worship, witness, and serve.
That same Spirit is at work today in the life of our congregation. On Sunday, June 8, we invite you to gather with your First Pres family for a special Pentecost “One Worship” service in the Sanctuary, at both 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. This unique service will bring together the rich traditions of both our Traditional and Modern worship styles. It’s an opportunity
to worship as one church, across generations and preferences, united by the Spirit of Christ.
The theme of the morning will center on the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and our church. Through worship, song, and powerful testimonies from Covenant Partners, we’ll celebrate how God continues to renew, call, and commission us just as He did at Pentecost.
As part of our service, we are collecting:
• Gently used men’s t-shirts (large sizes needed), jeans, shorts, and tennis shoes.
• New (unopened) men's and women’s socks and underwear.
All donations will support the ministry of the Kingdom Restoration Lab, serving those who are experiencing homelessness in downtown San Antonio. Bring your donations to FPC by Sunday, June 8, so that we can dedicate them during the Services at 9:30 and 11:00 AM. There will be a table and donation area in the Mauze Lobby throughout the morning where you can drop off donations and learn about ongoing donation and serving needs in the KRL. You can also use the following link to order items from Amazon: https://bit.ly/KRLNeedsList. Join us in extending Christ’s love to our
REV. DR. BOB FULLER
neighbors through the KRL Summer Clothing Drive! (If you need more information or have questions, please contact Lindsay Selli at lindsays@fpcsat.org). Let’s give generously and help restore dignity and hope in Christ’s name!
Following worship, join us for a joyful church-wide luncheon in Westminster Hall, where we’ll continue the fellowship with food, laughter, and shared stories.
And don’t forget to wear red! Red is the liturgical color of Pentecost, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit. Let’s fill the Sanctuary with color as a visible sign of our unity and celebration.
Come expectantly. Come joyfully. Come ready to be filled with the Spirit. Let us worship together as one body, one Spirit, one hope (Ephesians 4:4).
Grace and peace,
Bob

Celebrating Growth and Looking Forward
What a wonderful celebration we had on May 18 at our 5th Grade Graduation ceremony! The joy and pride were shining brightly on the faces of our students, teachers, and families. A huge thank you goes out to our incredible 5thgrade teachers, Mary Henderson and Catherine Miller, for their creativity, faithfulness, and Biblical knowledge. Their tireless devotion to our children is deeply appreciated. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Bob and Gina Stevens, whose dedication as faithful volunteers truly supported these children and our teachers.
Thank you to all the parents for coming and blessing your child—your presence made the day meaningful for everyone. And a big shout out to Mr. Kyle and Ms. Savannah for welcoming us to the Student Center. It was a wonderful time spent together!
Our Children and Student Ministries thrive because of our wonderful volunteers. We cannot express enough gratitude for your care and support throughout the 2024/2025 school year. Just imagine FPC without the tender, loving hands of our marvelous helpers! We have teachers, mentors, campers, crafters, storytellers, prayer warriors, woodworkers, encouragers, baby rockers, Christ lovers, high-fivers, ping pong players, decorators, Holy Spirit huggers, homework helpers, greeters, and more. To all of these faithful volunteers, we give a great big WOO HOO!!!
Wouldn’t you like to join this great group of people and make a difference in the lives of our children and students? We are always looking for more smiling faces to be a part of this wonderful ministry. If you are interested, please contact me at rebeccas@fpcsat.org or Cynthia at cynthiab@fpcsat.org.
As we look forward to more exciting events, don’t forget to register for Vacation Bible School (VBS) and consider volunteering to make this event a success! Thanks to everyone who helped with the Amazon Wish list for VBS— we appreciate your generous support. Another WOO HOO goes out to our kind and giving FPC community!

KRL Sewing Day
For several months I have been asking Chris, the Outreach Specialist at KRL, how our church could help and support the ministries in the KRL. So, when he asked me to make Pocket Prayer Quilts— tea bag sized, fabric packets with a cross tucked inside— I said yes. The only problem— I can’t sew!
So, I put out a call for help. And, one Saturday morning, twelve wonderful ladies answered that call. Some brought sewing machines, others came ready to sew by hand, and all brought joyful hearts. In just two hours, our team made about 80 pocket prayer quilts!
These small gifts, each stitched with love and prayer, will be handed out to our homeless neighbors as a reminder that they are seen, loved, and never alone.

AWC Centers Mobile Medical Unit Update
We got back out on the road in October of last year. We've played around with dates and times but the biggest impact has come from the partnerships we've formed.
We started out with the mobile parked at Harper's Chapel Ministries in the 78207-zip code. It was a great start to piloting our program with a three-man team and we learned a lot. We did not see many women of childbearing age there and mostly provided STD services. We then heard about West Avenue Compassion in the 78213-zip code. They serve over 500 families each week with food and resources. We began parking the mobile there in March of this year.
From October - May we have been able to serve 49 clients with mobile service. Many of the clients we have helped have not been able to obtain insurance or see a doctor. We've had a few women very surprised to be pregnant. And we've been able to treat clients for STI's that they may not have otherwise realized they had.
We recently had one of our faithful client advocates agree to become a member of the mobile crew allowing us to have a Spanish speaker on board with us. We also added a medical assistant to our team who, when fully trained, will be able to commit to our mobile schedule as well.
We are looking to expand these services in the community by adding additional hours to our mobile schedule. We'd love to see the mobile out three days a week by the end of the year.
We are so grateful for the church's hand in making this dream a reality. We covet your prayers as we seek to expand!

Why Praying for Our Schools Matters
As part of our commitment to nurturing our community, we recognize the immense value of supporting our local schools through prayer. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus assures us, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." This underscores the power of collective prayer, reminding us that when we come together in faith, our prayers can have a profound impact.
The Role of Prayer in the Christian Walk:
1. Covering Schools with Prayer: By gathering to pray at schools, we aim to envelop these institutions with spiritual protection, asking for God's presence to guide students, teachers, and staff as they navigate the academic year.
2. Fostering Safe and Nurturing Environments: Praying for safety and a positive learning environment reflects our hope for schools to be places where students can grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, free from harm and filled with encouragement.
3. Supporting Educators and Families: Teachers and school staff carry significant responsibilities, and our prayers can uplift and strengthen them in their vital role. Similarly, families benefit from knowing their children are supported by a caring community.
4. Building Community Connections: This event reinforces our bonds with each other and the wider San Antonio community, promoting unity, compassion, and mutual support in various areas of life, particularly in education.
A Call to Action for All Ages:
Join us for this year’s Back to School Prayer at the Flagpole on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM, at the school of your choice. This is a special occasion to gather as a community and pray for the students, teachers, and staff in our local schools. We invite you to choose a school— whether it's your child’s, your neighborhood's, or any other school—and come together with family members, friends, students, and teachers.
The gathering will be informal, lasting about 30 minutes, with the sole purpose of covering the schools in our city with prayer for safety, protection, and a healthy learning environment. This is a wonderful way to start the new school year and support San Antonio's educational community.
We especially encourage junior and high school students, alongside other community members, to participate in strengthening the spiritual foundation of our schools through collective prayer. Your presence and prayers are a testament to the faith and hope that we, as a church, hold for the future.
Mark your calendars, and let's unite in prayer to send the students and faculty of San Antonio back to school with blessings and encouragement!

Walking Together: Discipleship and Mentorship in FPC's Student Ministry
In student ministry, we believe discipleship and relationship are the core of our ministry, and we want to walk alongside our church in promoting discipleship throughout every aspect of FPC's varied ministries. Our goal is to create a culture where students of all ages are intentionally growing together along the way as disciples of Christ -- through relationships with each other, their classmates, adult mentors, volunteers, or whomever they might find along their path!
Right now, we are looking for committed volunteers for two key areas:
Confirmation Mentors
We are seeking committed adult mentors who are willing to invest in 8th-grade Confirmation students during this pivotal season of their faith formation. Mentors will walk alongside Confirmation students from August to April, and will meet with them in fellowship and discipleship as they explore what it means to follow Jesus and become part of the broader church family.
SALT Team Mentors
SALT (San Antonio Leadership Team) is a new program designed for high school students, aimed at equipping and activating them to become disciple-makers in their own communities. From August to May, students will learn what discipleship means, develop leadership skills, and serve as leaders within our student ministry. We are seeking adult mentors who can walk alongside these students throughout the year, providing guidance, encouragement, and accountability as they step into this important calling.
Beyond these key areas, student ministry has a variety of roles and levels of commitment available. We need Sunday School teachers, Small Group leaders, and volunteers to serve on our Student Ministry Committee! If you are interested in learning more, we would love to talk with you!
Please contact Kyle Bowden, kyleb@fpcsat.org, Preston Miller, prestonm@ fpcsat.org, or Savannah Schatte, savannahs@fpcsat.org, for more information or to get involved.
Peace be with you,

Blessings and love in Christ, Sandy Sturch
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.— Psalm 143:8
I love Thy kingdom, Lord, the house of Thine abode. The Church our blessed Redeemer saved with His own precious blood. I love Thy Church, Oh, God! Her walls before Thee stand, dear as the apple of Thine eye, and graven on Thy hand. Beyond my highest joy, I prize her heavenly ways, her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise. Sure as Thy truth shall last, to Zion shall be given the brightest glories earth can yield, and brighter bliss of Heaven! (Worship in Song, #311)

“Called unto holiness” church of our God, purchase of Jesus, redeemed by His blood; Called from the world and its idols to flee, called from the bondage of sin to be free. “Called unto Holiness” children of light, walking with Jesus in garments of white; raiment unsullied or tarnished with sin; God’s Holy Spirit abiding within. “Called unto holiness” praise His dear name! This blessed secret to faith now made plain. Not our own righteousness, but Christ within, living and reigning and saving from sin. ( Worship in Song, #290)
Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin. Each victory will help you some other to win. Fight manfully onward; dark passions subdue, look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through. To him that o’er cometh, God giveth a crown. Through faith we shall conquer, tho’ often cast down. He, who is our Savior, our strength will renew. Look ever to Jesus: He will carry you through. Ask the Savior to help you, comfort, strengthen and keep you. He is willing to aid you, He will carry you through. (Worship in Song, #436)
Behold the amazing gift of love the Father hath bestowed on us, the sinful sons of men, to call us sons of God! Concealed as yet, this honor lies, by this dark world unknown, a world that knew not when He came, even God’s eternal Son. Our souls, we know, when He appears, shall bare His image bright: for all His glory, full disclosed, shall open to our sight. A hope so great, and so divine, may trials well endure; And purge the soul from sense and sin, as Christ Himself is pure. (The Hymnbook, #120)

Jesus lives, and so shall I! Death, thy sting is gone forever! He for me hath designed to die; Lives the bands of death to sever. He shall raise me from the dust; Jesus is my hope and trust. Jesus lives and by His grace, vict’ry o’er my passions giving, I will change my heart and ways. Ever to His glory living. Me He raises from the dust: Jesus is my hope and trust. None of all His saints is lost: Jesus is my hope and trust! (Christian Gellert, 1715-1769)

FIRST CUP PRAYER LIST
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. (Romans 8:26)
