The Season of Lent marks the forty days of preparation for Easter. During these forty days prepare your heart for the Resurrection through fasting and repentance as we remember the forty days that Jesus spent in the desert tempted by the devil fasting in the wilderness. Notice the purple vestments on the Communion Table, pulpit, and pastors’ robes that will remain until Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE/THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. ANTHEM

WE RESPOND TO GOD *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. OFFERING/OFFERTORY Deeper and Deeper | Arr. Stephen Ministry Lenten Devotional A new Stephen Ministry Lenten Devotional is available in the Gathering Space and online at fpcmarietta. org/lent. This compilation of devotionals for each day of Lent 2024 was lovingly and prayerfully written by FPC Stephen Ministers, both past and present. Through these writings, they share God’s love and the hope of the scriptures. 40 for 40 Food Drive In observance of the Lenten Season, many people choose to “give up” something they enjoy as they enter a period of reflection. An alternative is to “give” to someone who needs what you take for granted. Please consider donating shelf stable items to The Pantry on Church. You and your family may: donate an item per day, as indicated below, one item per week, or have your children choose their favorite item to contribute. A flyer with weekly lists is available in the Gathering Space and online at fpcmarietta.org/ lent. Lenten Bible Study: Finding God in the Wilderness with Dr. Brennan Breed Sundays, February 25 and March 10-24 | 9:45am-10:45am | Great Hall | Livestream available In the Bible, the wilderness is a space of deprivation and danger. Wilderness is a space where people experience their fragility, mortality, limitations, and failures. Yet the Bible also presents the wilderness as a special place of God’s presence and creative power to re-make people and communities––and so wilderness stories celebrate God’s provision, transformative power, and renewal. The liturgical season of Lent lasts forty days in order to mark Jesus’ time in the wilderness, and this Lenten season we will explore the ways that the wilderness experiences of our own lives bring us to recognize both our limitations and God’s salvation. Music & Arts Aspiring artists, hobbyists, phone photographers, have you taken a great photo you could share? We invite you to find out more about FPC’s first ever Photography Show on exhibit during Holy Week. We will display photographs that honor God’s creation, take us on a journey into a story, or create a beautiful moment to celebrate the creativity God has given us. Find out more by emailing ginlea@me.com. Easter Lilies If you would like to dedicate a lily in honor or in memory of a loved one this season, please complete a form in the Gathering Space and return it and a check to Sandra Varnum, Finance Associate.
