Deceased Birds H5 Risk For veterinary clinics preparing birds for collection. Please use this guide before placing a deceased bird in the clinic freezer or requesting collection. Public or client-found birds If a client or member of the public has found a sick bird, deceased bird, unknown-origin deceased bird, multiple dead birds, or a bird where Bird Flu is mentioned or suspected: do not accept it into the clinic freezer. Confirm the bird type before freezing 1. Owned pet bird: accepted if there is no exposure risk, Bird Flu concern, or infectious disease concern. 2. Wildlife bird where Bird Flu is not suspected: vet clinic collection only. 3. Suspected-risk or unknown-origin deceased bird: do not freeze or request collection. Report to 1800 675 888.
Owned pet birds 1. Confirm no Bird Flu concern, exposure risk, or infectious disease concern. 2. Bag, label, freeze normally, and tell the driver it is an accepted owned pet bird.
Wildlife birds accepted by vet collection only 1. Only request collection if Bird Flu is not suspected. 2. Double-bag and fully seal with a body tag and yellow tag.
Deceased birds not accepted for freezer storage Do not place deceased birds in the freezer if they are unknown-origin, found in public areas, part of multiple bird deaths, showed illness signs before death, or if Bird Flu is mentioned or suspected. Report to 1800 675 888.
Keepsakes Keepsakes are only for accepted low-risk owned pet birds. We do not take feathers from wildlife, declined, referred, unknown-origin, or suspected-risk birds.
Escalate or advise us Contact us if you are unsure, packaging is open, damaged, leaking, unclear, missing required tagging, or a suspectedrisk/unknown-origin deceased bird has been presented.
