Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest and most revered

The Maha Kumbh Mela attracted more than 400 million visitors worldwide.

As per Indian Mythology, the origins of Kumbh Mela are originated from the ‘Ksheer Sagar Madhan’ (Churning of the Milk Ocean). When the ocean was being churned with a mountain by tying a huge snake around it with gods holding on the tail end and demons holding on the head end, a pot of Amrit (Elixir) emerged out of it and to prevent it from falling into the hands of the demons, Lord Vishnu disguised in his Mohini avatar, fled grabbing the pot of Amrit.

It is believed that drops of Amrit fell over these four places: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik.

The central ritual of the Maha Kumbh Mela is the Shahi Snan, or royal bath, where millions of pilgrims immerse themselves in the holy rivers at auspicious times This act is believed to cleanse individuals of their sins and liberate them from the cycle of rebirth (samsara), ultimately leading to Moksha or spiritual liberation

The confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati at Prayagraj is particularly revered as a site for attaining salvation.

Beyond its religious implications, the Maha Kumbh Mela serves as a vibrant cultural festival that brings together diverse groups of people. It includes ascetics (sadhus), pilgrims, and visitors who engage in various rituals such as fasting, charity, and communal prayers.

The gathering fosters a sense of unity among participants, transcending differences in caste and creed. The event also showcases India's rich heritage through its rituals and practices that are passed down through generations

GUKESH DOMMARAJU BECAME THE YOUNGEST CHESS WORLD CHAMPION

Gukesh Dommaraju, an 18-year-old chess prodigy, has become the Youngest Chess World Champion. He bagged the World Chess Champion title recently at the World Chess Championship that was conducted in Singapore He represented India at the Championship and played against Ding Liren, a 32-year-old grandmaster, representing China. They played 14 incredibly tough matches over a fortnight

The ending moments of the final match were nail biting moments especially for those who managed to catch it live. Dommaraju’s reactions took different forms soon after he noticed that Liren’s move could actually lead him to victory Liren appeared to have realized a little too late The move was done, there was no going back. Dommaraju took time to compose himself.

Any stupid, miscalculated move from his side in a bout of excitement could be deadly. A few seconds of meditation and then the next move. A couple of moves more and there it was- the finish line with the shiny reward waiting for him This was a dream come true for Gukesh Dommaraju, who said he was dreaming about this moment for 10 years! Calling that moment as a surreal moment can hardly describe what could have been going on his mind. A mixture of joy and disbelief

Gukesh’s dream became more specific, since after winning the Under 11 Indian Championship in 2017 he famously told IM Sagar Shah, “I want to become the youngest world chess champion. ”I didn’t pay any attention to it at that moment,” admitted Shah in the take recap of the final game of the 2024 World Championship, since as he explained, “When you interview any young kid, they say that they want to become the world champion.”

Ding came out fighting, won the first game, and after Gukesh hit back in game three, we got an incredibly tense “middlegame” of seven draws that were jam-packed with near misses f b th id Wh G k h 11 t

As Gukesh explained, however, chess f ’ h hi f l

Perseverance and determination to work hard, take the failures that come in one’s way in one’s stride and finding ways to go to the next level and much more, are the crucial ingredients in his journey to the top. Above all, the recognition that he is always a student, learning to pace himself, recognizing the fact that competing with the big leagues involves a lot of a calm and strategy, are difficult traits to acquire. At the end of it all, victory when it chooses to come, is definitely sweet!

He’s four years younger than the legendary GM Garry Kasparov was when he took the title from GM Anatoly Karpov in 1985, with Kasparov in turn a few months younger than another candidate for the greatest of all time, GM Magnus Carlsen, who won the title in 2013 from India’s first world champion, GM Viswanathan Anand

As a seven-year-old, Gukesh watched Carlsen and Anand play when the match was held in his home city of Chennai and had a dream: "When Magnus won, I thought I really want to be the one to bring back the title to India, and this dream that I had more than 10 years ago has been the single most important thing in my life so far."

“The only way to explain is just I’m living my dream!” said Gukesh after his triumph, though he revealed that for

ANOTHER PANDEMIC LIKE COVID? – HMPV

Covid-19 - I’m sure everyone have got enough memories with this term. It forced us to go through one of the most tough times of our lives. It showed us the world in a different perspective. We were scared of everything, scared to touch, scared to breathe and were scared for our lives Just as we are recovering from it, and are trying to let go of it, a new virus has emerged in to the market, again

HMPV, short for Human MetaPneumoVirus, has emerged in China, again. I wonder what’s happening in China. Rumours of school closures in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and Beijing’s acknowledgement of a surge in cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), have prompted understandable concern

Yet, while some people have drawn comparisons with the early days of COVID-19, human metapneumovirus is not a new virus, and is unlikely to trigger the next pandemic

Human metapneumovirus was first discovered in 2001 by Dutch virologists who were seeking an explanation for various individual respiratory infections that had occurred in recent decades, but which couldn’t be attributed to any known pathogen When they analyzed nasal swabs from 28 children who had experienced such infections over the past 20 years, they isolated a previously undiscovered paramyxovirus –a large family of viruses that also includes respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human parainfluenza, measles and mumps.

Having identified this virus, they tested blood samples from other Dutch children, including historic samples. Their investigations revealed that almost all these children possessed antibodies against HMPV by the age of five, which is a sign of previous exposure, and evidence that the virus had been circulating in humans for at least 50 years

Subsequent studies confirmed that human metapneumovirus is a common respiratory virus that circulates in many countries during winter and spring People of all ages can be infected, and reinfected throughout their lives, and while some people who catch it end up in hospital with bronchitis or pneumonia, most experience cold or flulike symptoms – including a cough, fever, nasal congestion, and shortness of breath –and recover after a few days.

Like many respiratory infections, HMPV is most active during late winter and spring. This is because viruses survive better in the cold, and can pass more easily from one person to another as people spend more time indoors with closed windows. In northern China, the current HMPV spike coincides with low temperatures that are expected to last until March

Many other countries in the northern hemisphere, including the USA, are also experiencing a growth in rates of HMPV, said Jacqueline Stephens, an epidemiologist at Flinders University in Australia. "While this is concerning, the increased prevalence is likely the normal seasonal increase seen in winter," she said The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring rates of flu-like illness across the Northern hemisphere, and said it has not received any reports of unusual outbreak patterns in China or elsewhere. The disease is already globally present and has been around for decades. This means people across the world have some degree of existing immunity due to previous exposure, as per experts. "Almost every child will have at least one infection with HMPV by their fifth birthday and we can expect to go onto to have

ISINDIANLAW BIASED AGAINSTMEN?

Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old IT employee, committed suicide, with a placard on his side, on which it is written, “Justice is Due”. Suicides happen every day, so, what is so special about this? What does it mean, “Justice is Due”? Let’s dig in.

Atul Subhash is a software engineer from Southern City of Bangalore, who is married to Nikita Singhania, who worked at Accenture, in 2019. A few years into the marriage, he has accused his wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother and brother of sustained harassment and torture. Eventually, he committed suicide leaving behind a 24-page suicide note and an 81-minute video recording of himself, in which he blamed the trouble in his marriage and divorce proceedings. The two conversations that the 34-year-old described as "instigation for suicide" took place at the Jaunpur family court where the couple's divorce proceedings were on.The first exchange, dated March 21 this year, was inside the judge's room.

When the judge, Rita Kaushik, asked Atul and Nikita why they were not settling the case, he replied, "Ma'am, they first demanded Rs 1 crore, after your interim maintenance order, they are asking for Rs 3 crore. "According to Atul's note, the judge replied, "You must have Rs 3 crore. That's why they are asking. "Ma'am, please see the petition, the allegations they have levelled against me and my family. So many cases... They are not letting me meet my child. She left home of her own accord. She is harassing me and my family. I have to come from Bengaluru to Jaunpur," Atul told the judge. The judge then said, "So what if she has filed cases, she is your wife."

Atul alleged that Nikita, at this point, told him, "So why don't you die by suicide?" The judge laughed at this and asked her to leave the room. After she left, Atul alleges, the judge asked him to settle the cases against him and his family and demanded Rs 5 lakh. When he said he did not have the money, but evidence

The daughter-in-law has her share. Your whole family will make the rounds of court."

News of Subhash's tragic death has galvanised men's rights activists and started a wider debate around India's tough dowry law which was designed to protect women from harassment and even murder. Singhania had accused Subhash and his family of harassing her for dowry. Many argue that with cases of divorce steadily rising, the law is now being misused by women to harass their husbands, even forcing them to kill themselves. India's top court has also weighed in, with one judge describing it as "legal terrorism" that was "intended to be used as a shield and not as an assassin's weapon". Subhash and Singhania married in 2019, but had been living apart for three years and Subhash said he was not allowed to meet their four-year-old son.

His wife, he alleged, had filed "false court cases", accusing him of cruelty, dowry harassment and various other wrong doings In the video, he accused the Singhania family of "extortion" and said they had demanded 30m rupees to withdraw the cases, 3m rupees for visitation rights to their son and asked to raise the monthly maintenance

In the past, Singhania had also levelled grave charges against her husband. In her 2022 petition for divorce, she had accused him, his parents and brother of harassing her for dowry. She said they had been unhappy with the gifts her parents had given during the wedding and demanded an additional 1m rupees.

Singhania claimed that her father died from a heart attack soon after her wedding when Subhash's parents went to him to demand the money. She also alleged that her husband used to threaten her and "beat me up after drinking alcohol and treated the husband-wife relationship like a beast" by demanding unnatural sex Subhash had denied all the allegations.

People are protesting to rewrite or even scrap India’s Stringent anti-dowry law – Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The law was introduced in 1983 after a spate of dowry deaths in Delhi and elsewhere in the country. There were daily reports of brides being burnt to death by their husbands and in-laws and the murders were often passed off as "kitchen accidents" Angry protests by female MPs and activists forced parliament to bring in the law. But over the years, the law has repeatedly made headlines, with men's activists saying it is being misused by women to harass their husbands and their relatives. Amit Deshpande, founder of Mumbai-based men's rights organization Vaastu Foundation says the law is being used "mostly to
