THE coffey FAMILY By Lauren Loeb Ungar

F

or Kimberly and Shawn Coffey, home has always been about more than a beautiful house. It is where family gathers, where laughter fills the rooms, where a little girl can ride her bike to the playground, and where even an ordinary evening around the kitchen table can become a memory worth keeping. Finding Terrabella Since July 2019, that home has been TerraBella. Shawn grew up in Slidell, while Kimberly was born and raised in Metairie. In 2019, the couple was living in Baton Rouge and enjoying the convenience and energy of city life, but they knew they were ready to put down roots somewhere their family could grow. The couple hoped to move closer to Shawn’s mom, Eileen, who lives on the Northshore. Fortunately, their work circumstances gave them the freedom to explore: Shawn owned, and still owns, his own local Allstate Insurance agency, where he loves helping families protect what matters most, and Kimberly was working remotely in marketing. 8 | TerraBella Living

That’s when Eileen suggested they come up to the Northshore and take a look at the community. From the moment they arrived, something clicked. It was, as they say, one of those “when you know, you know” moments. As they toured the house, Kimberly and Shawn could already picture the life they would create there: birthday parties, holiday gatherings, and their daughter Chloe riding her bike to the playground. Before they had even moved in, the house already felt like home. Seven years later, that feeling remains. Making the House a Home Today, Kimberly describes herself as the Chief Operating Officer of the Coffey household. Before becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom, she worked as a Director of Marketing. Now, she happily spends her days raising six-year-old Chloe, managing their busy family life, and making memories together. “We fell in love with the West Indies architecture, the beautiful landscaping, and the welcoming neighborhood,” Fall 2026

Kimberly recalls. And, over the years, the Coffeys have added their own personal touches, particularly in the landscaping and outdoor spaces, making sure their home reflects their family’s unique style. But the heart of the house has remained the same: an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area that brings everyone together. It is, without a doubt, their favorite space. Above all else, family time is most important to the Coffeys, and the openness of the room allows everyone to be together even when they are doing completely different things. Someone might be cooking dinner while another is working on homework, painting, or watching a movie. Whatever is happening, everyone remains connected. Warm, welcoming, comfortable, and always full of laughter, the space seems to capture the essence of the Coffey family itself. And there are plenty of people to fill it. Their daughter Chloe is in first grade at St. Peter Catholic School. At home, she is part of a family that has embraced the idea of making the most of every season of life. Their Fall 2026

Scottish Fold cat, Peaches, is also an important member of the household—and, according to Kimberly, Peaches is completely convinced that she runs the place. “Honestly, she’s probably right,” Kimberly admits. Adventure is Their Middle Name Life in TerraBella offers the Coffeys plenty of opportunities to enjoy the simple pleasures close to home, but adventure is never far from their minds. If the family had to describe itself in one word, it would be “adventurous.” Whether they are trying a new restaurant just down the street or boarding a plane to another country, they are always excited to experience something new together. Travel is their favorite shared hobby—and perhaps their family’s love language. The Coffeys love experiencing new places together and making memories around the world. Shawn’s favorite destination is Scotland. Kimberly says she would happily move to Italy if given the chance. And Chloe still talks about Hawaii almost daily. It is safe to say that Hawaii has earned a special place in all of their hearts. Their family theme song feels like a natural fit, too: “Ends of the Earth” by Lord Huron. The song perfectly captures their love of adventure and their belief that the best memories are made while exploring the world together. When they are home, some of their favorite adventures happen around the kitchen table. Painting is a favorite family pastime, with Shawn making miniature figurines while Kimberly and Chloe let their imaginations run wild with whatever inspires them that day. And when it comes to dinner, there is a clear family favorite: spaghetti and stuffed meatballs. Their love of discovering something new extends into their life around the Northshore, too. As a family, they enjoy k TerraBella Living | 9

spending an evening at Anchor, where the relaxed atmosphere and playground make it a perfect place for families. Parents can unwind while the kids play, making dinner feel like a night out for everyone. For date nights, Kimberly and Shawn enjoy Bon Sake for great sushi and a fun atmosphere. And with the Northshore having grown so much over the last several years, they are constantly discovering new local favorites. With all the exciting new developments happening in TerraBella, the family looks forward to the community’s continued growth. “We would especially love to see more opportunities for both men and women to shop right here in TerraBella, adding even more to the convenience and charm of having so much within our own community.” What Matters Most For all the Coffeys’ love of travel and discovery, however, it is clear that their happiest place is together. At the end of the day, they simply love being a family. And perhaps that is what makes TerraBella the perfect fit. For the Coffeys, one of the most unique and enjoyable things about living in the community isn’t simply the beautiful homes or wonderful amenities. It is the people. “We’ve found an incredible sense of community here,” Kimberly says. “People genuinely look out for one another, celebrate together, and lend a helping hand when it’s needed.” Some of their neighbors have even become like family—a connection they treasure. After all, the Coffeys may love exploring the world, but TerraBella is the place where Chloe can ride her bike to the playground, where Peaches reigns over the household, where miniature figurines and imaginative paintings share space on the kitchen table, and where countless ordinary Tuesdays are woven into the fabric of life. Whether they are traveling halfway around the world or taking a walk through their neighborhood, the Coffeys make the most of every season of life.

NORTHLAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Business Spotlight

Think Critically. Lead Courageously. Serve Faithfully. What if education was more than preparing students for a career? What if it was about preparing them to live purposefully in the world they are entering? At Northlake Christian School, they believe education is part of a much bigger story. For nearly five decades, they have partnered with families to help young people discover who they are, develop the gifts they’ve been given, and learn to use those gifts in service of others. Because they believe a student’s education should shape more than what they know. It should shape who they are becoming. EDUCATION THAT FORMS PEOPLE. At Northlake, spiritual formation is at the heart of everything they do. Academics, athletics, fine arts, clubs, extracurriculars, and relationships are not ends in themselves. They are opportunities to help students grow in wisdom, character, faith, and purpose. The hope is beautifully captured in Psalm 1:3: “He shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” Northlake wants their students to be deeply rooted, thoughtfully formed, and ready to bear fruit wherever God calls them. They believe the formation of a child is a shared calling. The home is the primary place of formation. The church is the pillar and guardian of truth. And a Christian school has the unique privilege of bringing that same formation into

the classroom, the athletic field, the stage, and every part of school life. That is why Northlake exists: to partner with families and churches in forming followers of Jesus who think critically, lead courageously, and serve faithfully. For nearly 50 years, generations of Northlake families have helped build this community. Today, the school is grateful for the legacy they’ve inherited, committed to stewarding it well, and excited about what God will continue to do through the generations to come.

LEGAL TIPS By terrabella RESIDENT

Audrey Gitz DeAgano of Arena Collective

Is Louisiana a Community Property state, and what does that mean when I am buying and selling property? Louisiana is a community property state. That means anything you acquire during your marriage, including real estate, is presumed to belong to both spouses equally, in an undivided one half interest each. It doesn’t matter whose name is on the title or who wrote the check. The law assumes it belongs to the marriage, not just to you. For most married couples, that’s not a problem. But if you’re buying property you want to keep as yours, a rental, an inheritance you’re reinvesting, a business asset, a pre divorce purchase, that presumption can become a real complication down the road. The good news is that it’s fixable, if you handle it correctly from the start. There are two tools we use to protect our clients’ separate ownership. An Intervention Affidavit. This is the strongest protection available. Your spouse formally signs off, acknowledging the property is yours alone. Done right, at the time of purchase, this closes the door on future disputes before they can open. A Declaration of Separate Property on the deed. This states the property was purchased with your separate, or “paraphernal,” funds, meaning money that’s legally yours alone, like an inheritance. It’s a solid layer of protection for

title purposes. But if a divorce happens later, it’s not airtight on its own. Your spouse can still challenge it, and you’ll need to prove, with real evidence, that separate funds paid for the property. The difference between those two options is exactly the kind of detail that determines whether your property stays protected, or becomes a legal fight five years from now. This is where most people get it wrong. They find out about this after the closing, not before. At Arena Collective, our attorneys and title team work side by side, which means these issues get caught and handled before you sign, not unpacked in a courtroom later. Whether you’re buying investment property, protecting a business asset, or just want it done right the first time, we make sure your ownership is exactly what you intend it to be.

REAL ESTATE TIPS by terrabella resident

Donna Reynolds Naquin

There’s a Story Behind Every “For Sale” Sign

As I write this, there are 20 homes on the market in TerraBella. (That number may change by the time you read this.) Lately, several neighbors have asked me the same question: “Why are so many homes for sale?” It’s a fair question, and the answer may surprise you. It’s not because people are leaving Terra Bella. Often, they’re simply following life’s next chapter. Some families have outgrown their homes and need more space. Others are ready to downsize now that the kids have moved out. Some homeowners are relocating because of a job opportunity, while others are moving closer to grandchildren or aging parents. I’ve worked with neighbors who needed a home without stairs, and others who were excited to build their dream home after years of planning. Very rarely is it just about the house. Real estate is deeply personal. Behind every listing is a story, a season of life, and often a difficult decision. Selling a home where you’ve celebrated birthdays, holidays, and everyday moments isn’t always easy. Buying a new one is about much more than bedrooms and bathrooms -- it’s about finding a place that fits the life you’re living now. That’s one of the things I appreciate most about Terra Bella. Our neighborhood continues to attract people who want the same sense of community that so many of us already enjoy. As one family begins a new chapter, another can begin theirs. So, the next time you see a “For Sale” sign pop up around the neighborhood, remember -- it isn’t about the neighborhood at all. It’s about life. And life has a way of keeping all of us moving forward.

Branch Manager for American Bank

Tips for Connecting and Making a Difference Want to make a difference in your community? Turn your next coffee stop into an act of kindness. Being part of a community isn’t just good business—it’s good connection. At American Bank, we’ve learned that showing up, pitching in, and building relationships creates momentum for everyone. If you’re looking for simple ways to get more involved, here are some tips to help you get started. Tips for Meaningful Community Involvement 1. Find a project that you really like! American Bank is supporting the mission of Brooke It Forward with a donation box for the Cake and Icing Drive conveniently located at The Reminding. A simple donation of a boxed cake mix and a can of frosting can help create special celebrations for local families in need. 2. Follow through to make a difference. Supporting this drive is an easy reminder that

small acts of generosity can have a big impact. Pick up an extra item while shopping, drop it off during your next coffee run to The Reminding, and help Brooke It Forward bring joy to someone’s special day. 3. Support others publicly. Share project successes, highlight community partners, and celebrate milestones of the groups you admire. A simple “great job” posted on social media goes a long way.

Community involvement doesn’t have to be complicated—it just takes heart, consistency, and a willingness to participate. By partnering with Brooke It Forward and The Reminding, we are helping bring neighbors together through simple acts of kindness. Sometimes making a difference is as easy as sharing a little sweetness.

BUILDER TIPS by terrabella resident

Jason Hand

FALL IS THE SEASON TO PLAN AHEAD As the weather cools off, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about that home project you’ve been putting off all summer. Whether you’re dreaming of a new home, an addition, or simply refreshing a few rooms, fall gives you a natural head start—plans made now often mean a smoother spring groundbreaking or renovation kickoff.

It’s also a great season to walk your property with fresh eyes. Take note of what’s working, what’s not, and how your family actually uses your space. Those small observations are often what shape the best design decisions down the road. A little planning this fall can save a lot of second-guessing later.

At J Hand Homes LLC we’ve helped many clients design their home for the future. We’d love to talk about your project and help you determine the path that’s right for you.

Dr. Ravi Tandon is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a particular focus on advanced breast reconstruction. Raised between Calgary, Canada, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Tandon completed his general surgery training at Tulane, followed by plastic surgery training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and a microsurgery fellowship at NYU. After several years in New York, he returned to New Orleans with the Louisiana girl he met during his training. As he likes to say, he was warned Louisiana girls never leave. Turns out they were right. Today, Dr. Tandon specializes in advanced reconstructive microsurgery, including techniques that use a patient’s own tissue to restore form and function. His work in breast reconstruction increasingly focuses on something historically overlooked: restoring sensation through nerve reconstruction and neurotization. His goal is not simply to recreate anatomy, but to restore function, sensation, and quality of life. What is your Favorite Restaurant?

His passion for people, for building businesses, and for investing in his community has shaped both the attorney and the business owner he is today. After earning his J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2015, Jared built his practice in title and real estate law before becoming one of four partners at Arena Collective. Through its affiliates, Arena Law Firm and Arena Title Company, the Collective helps individuals and business owners with business law and consulting, estate planning and successions, and residential and commercial real estate closings. Today, Jared brings a lawyer’s and business owner’s perspective to his work at Arena, where he helps lead a firm built on five core values: Leadership, Integrity, Vocation, Legacy, and Teamwork. That same belief in relationships is what led Jared to co-host In The Arena. The podcast spotlights the businesses and nonprofits that make Southeast Louisiana stronger, giving Arena a way to get to know these organizations on a deeper level and share their stories with the community. It also gives Jared and his partners a platform to talk openly about their own journey of building and growing a business, from setting goals and running better meetings to finding the right people for the team. Outside the office, Jared’s greatest motivation is his wife and three children. You will usually find him coaching his kids’ teams or watching LSU and the Saints on Saturdays and Sundays. Jared draws inspiration from Theodore Roosevelt’s famous words, “It is not the critic who counts.” To him, leadership means showing up, taking action, and making a real difference in the community around him.

TERRABELLA koontz FAMILY PET

Sydney Koontz

Lovingly known as “Sweeter Than Sweet Tea” Sydney, the happy pup has become the heart of Lois’s home—a role that seemed destined long before the charming dachshund ever arrived in Louisiana. A lifelong dachshund lover, Lois had spent years raising four of the spirited little dogs before finding herself without one for nearly a decade. As her 70th birthday approached, however, the timing finally felt right for dachshund number five. “The last thing I needed was another dog,” Lois says with a laugh. “But I’d admired her coloring and the breed standard for a long time, and the circumstances just seemed right.” That decision led Lois on a road trip to Pennsylvania, where she adopted six-year-old Sydney from Kim’s Loveable Dachshunds, a respected breeder. Sydney had spent her life in a breeding program and had raised one litter of puppies before deciding, as Lois jokes, that motherhood simply wasn’t for her. The thousand-mile journey home to TerraBella marked the beginning of Sydney’s new life. Although she’d never experienced such a long car ride, she handled it like a seasoned traveler. Hotels, elevators, and automatic doors were another story. One memorable stop even included an unexpected encounter with a leashed chicken at a Virginia rest area—a moment Lois still laughs about today. While Sydney’s name was chosen for her by her first owner, it also happened to be the name of one of Lois’ favorite people—Sidney was the name of a dear former boss of hers who was a physician she worked with years ago at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. The name fit both her and her new dachshund well! Like most dachshunds, Sydney is long-bodied, short-legged, and full of personality. Originally bred to hunt badgers, dachshunds are known for their determination, loyalty, and occasional stubborn streak. They can be fearless, affectionate, and more than willing to announce every visitor with enthusiastic barking. Because Sydney spent her first six years in a kennel, adjusting to life as a family pet required patience, understanding, and plenty of love. She had never really belonged to one person before, but she quickly formed an

Fall 2026

unbreakable bond with Lois. “It has taken a lot of love and patience to acclimate Sydney to the real world,” Lois says. “Early socialization is so important. While she was very loved by her breeders, her limited exposure to people and everyday activities made the transition a challenge. She’s come a long way, and our neighbors have all been so loving and understanding as we’ve learned the ways of the world together.” Today, Sydney has fully embraced the comforts of retirement. The 22-pound dachshund proudly considers herself a lap dog, happiest with little more than a meal, a walk, and Lois’s lap. While toys don’t hold much interest—she never really learned how to play—she loves relaxing on the front porch swing and faithfully joins the ladies during mahjong games. She’s even learning that not every guest who walks through the front door requires a barking welcome. Every porch swing, every mahjong game, and every quiet afternoon together is another chapter in a story that proves love can find you at any stage of life.

The brooke it forward foundation

In Our Community

Birthdays & All That Jazz The Brooke It Forward Foundation celebrated its inaugural Birthdays & All That Jazz fundraiser on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Covington Country Club. Presented by Penny and Quentin Dastugue and emceed by Daniel Munn, the sold-out brunch marked seven years of spreading birthday magic to over 3,500 children throughout Southeast Louisiana. Led by Founder and Board President Marie Rudd-Gregory, Executive Director Jessica Valladares, Program Coordinator Melissa Ojeda, and Event Chair Heather Rietschel, the afternoon blended celebration with purpose. Guests enjoyed live music from the Felonious Monks Jazz Trio, made possible through the generosity of A Gift Given In Jesus Name, along with a delicious brunch, specialty coffees and libations, elevated BINGO, a silent auction, and the crowdfavorite Mini Masterpiece Machine, showcasing artwork by local artist Marianne Angeli Rodriguez. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of sponsors, donors, volunteers, board members, community partners, and Brooke It Forward’s dedicated Birthday Buddies monthly giving program, the event raised over $56,000 to support the Foundation’s mission of sharing the love and hope of Christ by celebrating birthdays for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, foster care placement, homelessness, or food insecurity. How Brooke It Forward Began Created to honor the memory of Brooke Posey, the daughter of founder Marie Rudd-Gregory, Brooke It Forward carries on Brookes legacy of feeling valued and loved; after all, she was the person who remembered everyone’s birthday. The idea began in June 2019, when Marie saw a story about Bella, a third grader in Kentucky who was creating birthday boxes for children in her school district who could not afford a birthday party. The idea immediately resonated with Marie, who had lost her daughter Brooke in a tragic car accident two years earlier. As Brooke’s 20th birthday approached, Marie wanted to honor her daughter by donating 20 birthday boxes. She reached out to Bella’s mother, but learned that her family wasn’t equipped to accept donations. Instead, Bella’s mother encouraged Marie to assemble the boxes and share them in her own community. Marie did exactly that. 26 | TerraBella Living

On June 12, 2019—Brooke’s 20th birthday—the first 20 Birthday Boxes were delivered to Children’s Advocacy Center – Hope House in Covington, Louisiana. Before leaving that afternoon, Marie asked Hope House Executive Director Thomas Mitchell, “How many boxes do you really need?”

Caleb Dean Shartle For Caleb Dean Shartle, TerraBella is home. For now, though—and for the next four years—Barcelona, Spain, is where he is building his future. With an adventurous spirit, Caleb is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business and Artificial Intelligence at Esade’s Sant Cugat campus. “Moving abroad for college has been a major transition,” he says, “but it has also given me the opportunity to become more independent, experience a completely different culture, and meet people from all over the world.” The experience is giving Caleb a broader perspective that he hopes will shape his entrepreneurial ambitions and the way he sees the world. His interest in business is already taking shape. Caleb is a partner in LA Barnhouse Brewery and its related businesses, joining his family in the company while serving as Chief Strategy Officer. “I enjoy taking an idea, figuring out how to make it work, and eventually turning it into something that creates real value.” Life in Spain has also given him a greater appreciation for where he comes from. “Being away in Spain has made me appreciate home a lot more, including many of the simple things I probably took for granted before leaving,” he says. What he misses most is time with family and friends. When he is back in TerraBella, his favorite things are simple: working out with his dad, playing basketball with his mom, traveling, going out to eat, and spending time with family. Looking ahead, Caleb hopes to start, build, and scale businesses across different industries and countries. For him, success is about more than making money. It is about using what he learns and experiences to create businesses and opportunities that make a meaningful impact, both at home and abroad.
