First off, I, Reyna “Queen” Herrera, owner of T-N-T (Tacos N Tamales) Restaurant, want to thank The Port Lavaca Wave for having awards that support and show off small local businesses within our surrounding community.

All small local businesses open for a reason, and to be acknowledged is just amazing. I am so grateful that T-N-T was awarded Best Breakfast in the Best In Golden Crescent contest.

Thirty-two years ago, I was working as a cook, cashier, and waitress at T-N-T, and was offered to own the business 31 years ago.

I remember thinking that day, when the previous owners asked if I wanted to take over the business, I was in shock and honestly very scared to go after something so huge and life changing. It was such a scary feeling, but there was something inside of me that told me to just “Go for it”, and I know now that it was definitely God whispering in my ear, letting me know that I will be able to succeed and manage T-N-T to what it is today.

There were many times I got frustrated managing the restaurant and sometimes wanted to quit, but honestly, if it wasn’t for the support of my deceased parents, Maria and Felix Herrera, receiving this award wouldn’t be possible.

When my only child was born, she became my world. During those frustrating times, I pushed through, because I wanted to support my daughter, Reyna Oyuki. I wanted her to realize one day that with faith in God, love and family that supports you,

I have tried my best to maintain the high quality that T-N-T has always obtained. Without my ladies, and staff, that wouldn’t be possible. From The Ground Up Testengeer engineered its way to the top of its field; expanding its offices into Louisiana In a highly competitive business, Testengeer Inc. outshined all the competition in the Best in Golden Crescent contest for the Best Engineering Company.

Testengeer Inc. has been a mainstay in the Calhoun County area.

The company was incorporated and began in 1979 in Port Lavaca.

The company provides an array of engineering services, which include civil, mechanical, I&E and commissioning, according to CEO Shane Dworaczyk.

Dworaczyk of Calhoun County, started at Testengeer Inc. in 1990 and, at that time, it employed approximately 25 employees.

Since then, the highly sought-after engineering company has grown to employ nearly 400 people.

Testengeer Inc.’s first client was Union Carbide, which is now Dow. Testengeer Inc. now services industrial industries all over Texas and into Louisiana.

Formosa Plastics Corp is a huge client for Testengeer Inc. and has helped its growth.

“Formosa has been good to us. We have a lot of staff out there on site. It allowed us to grow another company called Taurus Services LLC, which is our staffing business,” Dworaczyk said.

Dworaczyk was pleased to hear Testengeer Inc. won the Best Engineering Company in the Golden Crescent.

“One thing it does say for Testengeer is the things that we do for our employees, around the community and the quality work we put out, it shows that what we are doing is working,” Dworaczyk said.

Testengeer Inc. has offices in Corpus Christi, Victoria, Freeport, Houston and just opened one in Louisiana.

The corporate headquarters in in Calhoun County, at the crossroads of State Highway 35 and State Highway 2433.
