DAY TRIP: Lone Star Flight Museum

Texas Aviation Hall Of Fame, Flight Simulators, NASA Displays

The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) is a 501c3 aviation museum and STEM learning center with a mission to celebrate flight and achievements in Texas aviation as well as educate and engage our youth through science, technology, engineering and math. In addition to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, the 130,000 square foot museum is home to a flying collection of rare and historic commercial, general aviation and military aircraft. Guests can experience the wonder of flight in a warbird ride and get hands-on in the high-tech Aviation Learning Center and Flight Academy. Multiple public and STEM-focused education programs create an unforgettable museum experience for visitors of all ages. The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) opened to the public in November 1990 at Scholes Field in Galveston, Texas as a dream come true for its founder, Robert Waltrip. His expansive collection of aircraft created an amazing museum experience, and in 1999, added the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame to the museum. In 2017, the museum relocated to Houston at Ellington Airport. LSFM’s move from Galveston was much more than a change in location. It marked the transformation into a flight museum experience designed to inspire and educate future generations, honor those who

flew in the past and commemorate the rich history of Texas aviation, highlighting its impact on the state, the nation and the world. FLIGHT ACADEMY In the Flight Academy visitors will be introduced to the foundations of flight and aircraft design, all explained with basic scientific principles through engaging hands-on educational stations. Visitors of all ages will engage in four interactive sections: Design and Engineering Lab, Science of Flight, Briefing Room, and Ground Training featuring: 27 hands-on exhibits, three replica Flight Simulators cockpits featuring a Curtiss Jenny and two P-51 Mustangs (ADA accessible), two hang glider live action simulators. Blind Church Attenders

by Bob Vaughn, General Manager / Founder KJIC Radio Jesus said that we must be born again before we can see (perceive, understand, be aware of) the Kingdom of God. Those who are not born again cannot understand why we reason and believe and act like we do. Don’t expect them to. They are in spiritual darkness. They are spiritually blind. It should not be our goal to teach the blind to act like they can see, but to bring sight to the blind. Much of the professing church sits in spiritual darkness because they have never been born again. And because they’ve not been born again, they cannot understand the difference in worldliness and holiness. And if, perchance, we get some of these blind church goers to conform to some degree of outward holiness, they are all blind and lost. What then must we do? Hopefully, we will live our lives in such a way that it will

cause the blind to realize that they are lacking something. When they see that we gladly - from the heart - live a life of holiness, and that they grudgingly conform to certain standards of the church, the difference may become obvious. They may begin to seek the King, the giver of spiritual sight. An awesome responsibility rests on the preachers and teachers to be watchful for these blind church goers. To allow the blind to sit in the pew week after week unchallenged should be unthinkable. And yet it happens far too often, in far too many churches. Yes, the spiritual landscape of our country is growing dark. And the same is true in many churches. Worldliness at its worst—homosexuality; pedophilia; adultery; greed—are rampant, not only in the world, but in much of the professing church. Is there any hope? There is always hope for God’s people. But what about everyone else? They must be born again. Then their holiness can come from a willing heart. Then they can understand the Kingdom of God. Jesus also said that we must be born again if we are to enter the Kingdom of God. By the grace that God imparts to us when we are born again, we can begin to see God’s rule, and then we can enter into His rule. He sets up His kingdom in our hearts. You Must Be Born Again! Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom Of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ John 3:5-7 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13 No one will have to tell you when you are born again. You will begin to perceive thing differently. You will reason differently. Your view of the world will be different. Your world view will be different. Things in your life will begin to change. You will be a new man. You will be a righteous man. You will be a child of God’s. You will be an ambassador for Christ. Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now we are ambassadors for Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Currently on display from NASA are the following: the Shuttle Mission Simulator Motion Base that trained every Space Shuttle crew, Small Pressurized Rover which was part of a 2010 weeklong field test in Arizona and a Centaur Humanoid Robot which is designed with the role in mind of assisting humans on future lunar and martian missions. TEXAS AVIATION HALL OF FAME The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame was established in 1995 to honor famous aviators who are Texans and famous Texans who are aviators. There are currently 80 individual members with a few of the honored following.

Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman The first black female aviator to receive an international pilot’s license in 1921. Unable to find an instructor in the U.S., Coleman learned French so she could receive flying and aerobatics instruction in France. Back in the U.S., “Queen Bess” performed in airshows to raise money to open her own flying school. Dwight D. Eisenhower Dwight Eisenhower was the first president born in Texas and the first president to hold a pilot’s license. Although best known for being Commander in

Chief and for his leadership in World War II as the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, Eisenhower learned to fly in 1935 while serving in the Philippines. He soloed there in a PT-17 Stearman. As president, he realized the value of aerospace and signed legislation to create NASA in 1958, placing America firmly in the space race. James Henry “Red” Duke, Jr. With a vision to use aviation as a tool to enhance life-saving techniques, famed physician “Red” founded a helicopter-based emergency medical transport system in Houston, TX in 1976. Hermann Life Flight was the first of its kind in the state, to bring medical services to badly injured patients in remote location.

TxDOT releases draft EV charging plan

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) unveiled a draft Texas Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan on June 7 that aims to develop a charging network capable of serving millions of electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming years. Using current growth trends for EVs, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles estimates Texas will reach 1 million EVs by 2031. The plan also intends to comply with federal guidelines, take public feedback into account, and respond to Gov. Greg Abbott’s direction. In a March letter, Abbott instructed TxDOT and stakeholders to include in the plan a way for Texans to easily get from Beaumont to El Paso and Texline to Brownsville in an electric vehicle (EV) – with a focus on rural placement and connectivity. For fiscal years 2022-2026, Texas will receive $407.8 million, with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) apportioning $60.4 million of that already for FY 2022. The funds will be split 80 percent federal, 20 percent state, with third parties funding the state’s share. No state funds will be used. DC fast charging stations will be 50 miles apart on the Electric Alternative Fuel Corridors and usually 70 miles apart anywhere else in the state. Drivers will have multiple options for EV charging along their intended travel route. Every corridor charging location will have at least four units each rated to deliver 150 kilowatts of power. The stations will have room for pull through spaces for passenger vehicles pulling trailers or recreational vehicles. Locations will be discoverable online at the U.S. Department of Energy Alternative Fuel Data Center and various third-party applications.
