Volunteers and members of the local Martha Laird chapter of the Daughters of the America Revolution will once again be hosting a Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Mount Pleasant in December of this year, and preparations are al-

ready underway.

The local DAR chapter hosted the ceremony last year at Edwards Cemetery in town and it was a great success. They had many local veterans join in the ceremonies, as well as a local Boy Scout troop that performed the Color Guard. The Mount Pleasant High School Band also attended and played the national anthem

This year’s ceremony will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 11 a.m. on December 17, 2022. The cemetery is at 3312 US-67. The chapter says they are aware of approximately 315 veterans buried there that will have a wreath placed on their headstone. To complete this massive endeavor, funds are needed. The Texas heat is here to stay and forecasters say the next few weeks will be a typical Texas heatwave, plus some.

Forecasters are telling us that a northward shift in the jet stream will build a “heat dome” on top of the central part of the United States, with temperatures rising anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above normal. A heat dome causes the air underneath to sink, forcing temps upward and wiping out most chances for rainfall or even cloud cover.
