A Positive Childhood Memory by Pastor Lee Peoples
Dear Friends, What is one of your most positive childhood memories? Maybe it was a vacation you took, a friend you had, an activity you did? For me it was going to Vacation Bible School (VBS) as a child. I can still remember some of the songs I sang as a kid in VBS. LifeWay Research released a poll recently that said, “70% of adults who attended VBS as a child had a positive, memorable experience”.
people to a new life with Christ. One of the ways we do this is through our children’s programming. We desire for children to know that God loves them! This summer we are having our Vacation Bible School from June 13-17. VBS is open to children who will be entering kindergarten this Fall through completing 5th grade. This is a FREE program and runs from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm each day. You can register at www.heightschurch.org/events. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 281-331-8201.

DAY TRIPS: San Jacinto Museum of History Monuments, Battleground, Exhibits, Other Sights
Whether you have an hour or an entire day, the San Jacinto Museum of History, Monument and Battlegrounds is a must-see. Come immerse yourself in a part of what makes the Lone Star great. San Jacinto Museum of History The San Jacinto Museum of History is housed in the base of the San Jacinto Monument and operated by the San Jacinto Museum of History Association, a non-profit organization, in association with the Texas Historical Commission. More than just a gateway to a great view, the Museum is your gateway to Texas culture. It was established not only to honor those who fought here in 1836, but also to re-visualize the history of Texas and the Spanish Southwest. It was created as a steward
of history, and to promote friendship between Texas, Mexico, Spain, France and Latin America. Special treasures can be found from Mexican Texas, the Texas revolution, and the Republic of Texas. But the museum also holds art and artifacts from the Spanish conquest, French Texas (a small collection), Spanish colonial life, the Mexican Revolution and the Anglo colonization of Mexican Texas. Texas’s early statehood and the Civil War are also featured. Open hours: May 26-30: 9a-6p, Thur-Mon June 1-5: 9a-6p, Wed-Sun June 8-12: 9a-6p, Wed-Sun June 15-19: 9a-6p, Wed-Sun June 22-26: 9a-6p, Wed-Sun

San Jacinto Battleground Walk the Battleground and relive the famous battle for Texas Independence. Granite markers designate locations of the Texian and Mexican camps, as well as the site of the advance by Texian forces. In 1894, a committee of veterans of the Battle of San Jacinto located important sites of the Battle’s events. Metal pipes were placed to designate these sites which were replaced in 1912 by granite boulders by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
The Brigham Monument The eight men of the Texian side who died in battle or shortly thereafter, were buried on the battlefield. The graves, with the exception of that of Benjamin R. Brigham which had a headstone, were marked by wooden stakes. When a 15 ½-foot marble shaft was erected on

the graves in 1881, that of Brigham was the only one that could be located, as the stakes had decayed. The other graves were known to be situated in a row adjacent to Brigham’s grave. The shaft, carved with nine stars, lists the men buried nearby, as well as the name of a ninth man, who died less than a month after the battle: Benjamin Rice Brigham, Lemuel Stockton Blakey, John C. Hale, George A. Lamb, Dr. Wm. Junius Mottley, Mathias Cooper, Thomas Patton Fowle, Ashley R. Stephens, Olwyn J. Trask. A number of other markers from the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century are nearby. Marsh Restoration and Boardwalk From the 1,210-foot long marsh trail and boardwalk you can view the native prairie, tidal marsh and bottomland forest as it appeared at the time of the historic 1836 Battle of San Jacinto. Visitors will spot coastal birds like the Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork, Mottled Duck, Osprey, White Pelican and other wetland denizens such as the River Otter. Recreation Area All throughout the grounds you’ll find picnic tables, grills and water faucets. Many people see the monument and museum in the morning, take a picnic lunch and enjoy the park.
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
Be Prepared If Evacuation Is Necessary EVACUATION PLANS
Should I evacuate? Do not wait until a mandatory evacuation is issued. Monitor conditions and leave whenever you can. Hurricanes and disasters can be extremely unpredictable and can become much more dangerous in a matter of hours. Where should I go? If you do not have hotel reservations or family you can stay with, you may evacuate to the public shelters. Make hotel reservations as soon as possible. What route should I take? There are no mandatory routes you must take when evacuating from your city. In fact, there are several different routes you may take. When weather is good, take your family on an outing to check routes and become familiar with roadways and fuel locations The State has designated evacuation routes: SH-36, SH-288, SH-6, I-45, SH-290, HWY-59. If you choose to take an alternate route, essential services such as food, fuel, etc. are not guaranteed. Depending on the strength of the storm, contra-flow lanes might be open on SH-45, I-10, and SH-290 thirty-six (36) hours prior to the arrival of gale force winds. Plan your evacuation routes carefully (having more than one route planned), realizing that contra-flow lanes have priority over all other routes.
When evacuating you should: • Coordinate your departure with the people who will be traveling with you. • Notify an out-of-area person of your evacuation plans. • Make arrangements for your pets. • Pack your disaster supply kit into your vehicle. • Secure your home. • Double check your evacuation route and leave. Should I carry food and drinks in my car? Yes! Stopping for food or drinks during a large scale evacuation may significantly delay you in getting to your destination. Some restaurants and stores along hurricane routes may be closed and those that are open are likely to be very crowded. Additionally, once you leave the evacuation route to purchase food or drinks, it may be difficult to re-enter the flow of traffic.
I don’t want to evacuate! Should you choose to stay, there will be NO SHELTERS OPEN in Brazoria County. There will be NO SERVICES available to you (sewer, water, electricity, etc). Hospitals will close, ambulances will not run, and police and fire cannot respond until the storm passes.
Fire & EMS Station Plans Set There will be a Groundbreaking Ceremony for Brazoria County Emergency Services District No. 3
Fire & EMS Station on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. The station will be located at 3042 Meridiana Parkway. JUNE 2022

The Books Beginning at Birth website is filled with free tips, videos, and other literacy resources to support families in developing strong reading habits. Reading together is also a great way to develop bonds with your babies. Language develops in a baby’s brain as soon as they are born. It’s never too early to start reading to your baby! Digital books are also available for kids along with recommended activities and more for families. Books Beginning at Birth is presented by BookSpring and The Texas Association for Education of Young Children. Both organizations hope to bridge the equity barriers to school readiness for all Texas children.
