first hit in March 2020 and was shut down for about six to eight weeks. Arnone says people come because their sizes are not like the competition. A competitor’s large size might be half the size as Bubba’s large. Some popular items, according to Arnone, are their banana split in a cup and a strawberry or hot fudge sundae with wet nuts. Wet nuts are pecans in Bubba’s homemade maple syrup. Arnone states when they open, it is all weather-based as March can be iffy. “This year, opening first three days was double than last year. Once it’s lighter outside and the weather turns, that’s when the business kicks in, into early April.” Arnone stated when he posted when Bubba’s would be opening for the season again, it got more than 500 shares and 50,000 views on Facebook. “It’s pretty crazy for a small little 600 square foot building,” he said. “We don’t have enough room for what we have. Arnone plans to continue the tradition of Bubba’s into the upcoming years, but he is taking it year to year as he is looking for a new location. He also hopes to have multiple locations but nothing is confirmed. He explains what makes owning Bubba’s worth it. “The people, the loyal customers,” he started. “It’s the same people that come back. I formed relationships with the customers and seeing their smiles. They enjoy Bubba’s desserts.” Arnone has a message for someone who hasn’t stopped by or wants to. “If you haven’t come by and tried a banana split or a strawberry or hot fudge sundae, come by, and you’ll love it.” •
In Danville, there are a few places to get ice cream, including Dairy Queen, SweetFrog and Hopper’s Poppers, but there is only one that has been a tradition for more than 60 years. Clarence “Bubba” Barker first opened Bubba’s on N. Main St. in 1959. His family owned and ran the store until 2015 when the state stepped in and shut it down due to unpaid taxes. Current owner John Arnone took it over in 2016. “Everybody comes for the ice cream,” Arnone said. “It’s been in the community for so long, but people just love coming to Bubba’s; it’s just the popularity of it.” Arnone explains why he chose to take over the store. “I was new to the area about 10 years ago and was looking for a business to invest and run,” he said. “My cousin was from here, and when we found out Bubba’s was for sale, he told me that, back in the day, it was a good business and it fell on hard times.” Arnone did feel some pressure when he first started but learned everything about it from the old employees. “I wanted to keep everything as it was before it was shut down,” he said. After reopening the store, he said business was getting better with each year with the exception of when COVID

TRUE GRIT EXTREME BULL BASH COMES BACK TO ODAC STORY & PHOTOS BY ZACH MCKNIGHT
Cowboys, bulls and the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex can only mean one thing: the True Grit Extreme Bull Bash was back in town for the 10th time. Daniel Lanier is the announcer and co-owner of this event, and he said this is an annual event. As soon as ODAC opened, they came. Lanier says bull riding is a growing sport. “Awareness and professionals are bringing more awareness than ever before. As a result, lower level events have gained traction,” he said. He said the bulls that are used for this event are bred for this kind of use and each bull can weigh around 1,600 pounds. Due to this, there is a huge level of danger that comes from it. “This is the most dangerous sport in the world. You can lose your life and that’s just part of it,” he says. Lanier says the worst injuries that do happen in a bull riding event is getting stepped on. “More often than not, the bull is just enjoying himself. It is an accident,” he said. To help prevent these accidents, these events have bullfighters. “They get the bull’s attention. They put their hands in their face and make them seem bigger. The bull is trained to do its job. Jonatan Rodriguez is one of these fighters. For 16 years, he rode bulls but is still pretty new when it comes to fighting them as he has one year of experience. “We keep the cowboys safe. If we need to take a hit, we’ll do that so they (the cowboys) walk away safe. Our job is to 10 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
keep the bull’s attention. If we need to make the bull chase us, we will do that to get the cowboy out,” he said. “You stand the risk of getting hurt, but it’s minimal. The risk is as relative as the person making the run by doing the right things.” While it’s not common for the cowboys to get hurt when the fighters are in the ring, Rodriguez says they can only do so much. “It’s very rare you have one of those freak accidents, as we can move their heads but not their feet.” Rodriguez said the real professional is his partner, Cleive Adams, another bullfighter. Despite this, Rodriguez states what keeps him going. “Keeping close to God. When I’m in that arena, my faith is strong. It’s a family back there; the camaraderie is strong. Austin Beaty from Bedford is one of these participants. He said the trick is to find someplace open and let the fighters do their job. “You find the spot the animal isn’t. The bullfighters will go to work. They’re trained to put the barrier between you and the bull,” he said. While Beaty has never gotten seriously injured before, a lot of injuries come from mistiming. “Because you are not prepared, you usually land straightarmed or legged,” he explained. To ride one of these 1,600-pound bucking bulls, Beaty says training helps tremendously. “You have to maintain a fitness level, and that’s just dedication. Some do and some don’t. We built our own devices to train.” Beaty also said the mental side has progressed. Before

getting ready, Beaty reminds himself not to get too excited. “All you’re doing is riding a cow,” he says. This kind of event has a highest possible score of 100 points. Two judges score based on 50 points each, 25 for the rider and 25 for the bull. However, getting a 100 is almost impossible. As a result, Beaty has to focus on each run at a time. “You’re always trying to improve, trying to make the last one better than the rest.” Beaty says his personal highest score is a 90. This event was part of the sanctioning body known as SEBRA (Southern Extreme Bull Riding and Barrel Racing Association). Beaty says they generally hold a final every January to crown year-end champions. If anyone wants to join one of these events, Beaty has 12 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
a message. “It’s exposure. The more you expose yourself, it will inherently lead you to success. At a minimum, let us try to show you the true cowboy way of life.” Lanier also has a message for anyone that wants to watch or join. “It’s the competition of man versus beast. It’s extreme, the greatest show on dirt. Rodeo is a sport where you get hooked, you want more, it’s action-packed and that makes you want to keep coming back. It’s family entertainment.” Over 70 entrants participated in the weekend event from several states including: Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia and more. •

Picture a warm, summer evening along a quaint Main Street lined with shops, restaurants, historic sites and cars. Lots of cars. Cars from all eras and of all colors, shapes and sizes. It’s the annual Chatham Cruise-In, sponsored by the Virginia-Carolina Classic Chevy Club. The Cruise-In is held the fourth Saturday night from April to September along Main Street in downtown Chatham. The series kicks off this year on April 23 from 4-8 p.m. The cruise-in got it start more than a decade ago as a way to help the businesses in Chatham, said J.R. Gibson, president of the Virginia-Carolina Classic Chevy Club. Main Street is blocked off from the stoplight to Hargrave Boulevard and the cars are parked “any place we can find a place, we put them,” he said. The cruise-in averages around 300 or so cars, but the most it ever had was 735, said Gibson. “They come from all over,” he said, ticking off a list of farflung cities, from Richmond to Myrtle Beach, S.C. The cruise-in helps all types of businesses, from stores to hotels, said Gibson.

The big surprise for many out-of-towners is how pretty Chatham is. Most were unaware because they have only come here for court or to pay taxes, joked Gibson about Chatham being the location of Pittsylvania County’s courthouse and administrative offices. There is no admission to attend, but those who do are asked to bring a can of food, which goes to the Northern Pittyslvania County Food Bank. “We just want to help the community,” said Gibson. The car club also prints about 200 calendars a year and the proceeds from those goes to those in need in the county. “The money we raise, we give out to charity. It’s all for a good cause,” said Gibson. During the summer months, the club meets during the cruise-in and the rest of the year it meets monthly. All cruise-ins are held from 4-8 p.m. on the following dates this year: April 23, May 28, June 25, July 23, Aug. 27 and Sept. 24. For more information, contact ctgn40@gmail.com. •

A hot cup of coffee, or two, plus some conversation and good-natured ribbing among old friends is what gets these men going in the morning. The group begins gathering each weekday morning between 7-8 a.m. at Links Coffee House in Danville’s River District. “We’ve had people think we’re movers and shakers, but they’ve sat with us and realized we’re not,” joked Bob Willeford of their group. Steve Petrick calls his nearly daily appearance a habit and Willeford chalks it up to being old and waking up early. Camaraderie is another draw. “We laugh alot. I think it’s good therapy,” said Lawrence McFall of
the gathering, which does not have an official name other than “just the coffee group.” They are there without fail nearly every day, said Danville Sheriff Michael Mondul who also gets his coffee at Links and has been known to stop by. “They’re a very positive group of citizens,” said Mondul. Most of the regulars at Links on March 16 were either retired or nearly there. Willeford is an insurance broker and plans to retire this year. Former tractortrailer driver Jr. Emerson said he didn’t so much retire as “I quit punching the clock.” Eddie Mitchell retired from Goodyear, McFall from the former C&P Telephone (now Verizon) and Petrick

from the City of Danville where he worked in the assessor’s office. They make up most of the core group, which has commandeered a corner table near the window in the coffee shop. When people see them, they stop in and say hello, said Mitchell. The group got its start in 2001 and met regularly at the Main Street Coffee Emporium. It is similar to other such informal, but dedicated, gatherings that take place each morning in coffee shops and fast food restaurants in small towns and cities alike. This group met at the Main Street Coffee Emporium until 2020 when the pandemic arrived and the shop closed. Mitchell then struck his claim with the
corner table at Links and “we followed him,” said Willeford. The topic that day was golf — a sport enjoyed by Emerson and Mitchell, and formerly by Petrick. The group tries to steer clear of politics and describes themselves as being pretty much the same on that topic — the “sanity side,” joked Petrick and made no further distinction. Sometimes politics does rear its head and there can be disagreements, but nothing serious, said Petrick. “It’s never come to blows,” said McFall. Willeford used to be in charge of the daily trivia question, but his source ran out, he said. Mostly, “we’re always pontificating
about something,” joked Petrick. Some members of the core group knew each other outside of the coffee time. Emerson knew Mitchell through work and all had heard of McFall, who is a local historian. With the advent of cell phones and texting, the group can continue their conversation throughout the day. One day the group spent the morning naming the various tobacco companies that had been located in Danville — except one. They simply could not remember what it was called. A few minutes after the group dispersed for the day, a light bulb went off for Mitchell.
McFall said his phone rang. It was Mitchell. “He said Imperial and then clunk,” said McFall indicating a quick hangup, who went on to inform the rest of the group. It was the Imperial Tobacco Company. The group has also lost some members, to include Tom Arthur, who passed away in 2020. Greg Adkins is considered the “youngest” member of the group, and looked the part — sporting a ponytail when he arrived a bit later that Wednesday. He grabbed his cup of coffee and came to join the others. “They are my therapists,” he said. •

The new Tourism Division is wasting no time getting major initiatives launched. That’s because Meriwether says it’s crucial to have a fully functioning tourism division in place before Caesar’s opens their doors next year and brings thousands of new visitors to the city. “Company’s coming. And if we’re not getting ready for this, then how in the world are we going to be able to share the rest of our community with these visitors?,” she said. Meriwether says a lot of their prep work will focus on information gathering. “We need data, and we need it fast,” Meriwether said. “We’re talking geo-fencing data, everything. We need to know where our visitors are coming from, and why are they coming? How long are they staying? What’s important to them?” In the months leading up to the casino opening, Meriwether says they’ll target local residents to sell them on the idea that, yes indeed, tourism is a big industry. They’re also reaching out to local residents do two things. MORE THAN FLOWERS BLOOM IN CHATHAM’S “SOCIAL HUB” STORY & PHOTOS BY DIANA MCFARLAND
Maybe it comes from being surrounded by flowers all day. Or maybe it takes a certain type of person to go into the business. Whatever the underlying reason, there’s a feeling of joy blooming at the M&W Flower Shop in Chatham. The joy shows itself when Charles Williams greets his longtime customers with sheer exuberance and delight. It shows when delivery driver Terri Younger returns from brightening a customers day with a flower bouquet, and she is greeted with a big smile from floral designer Michael Rose, along with Vickie Hall, who as been in the flower business for more than 30 years. It shows in the friendly banter between people who have worked together for many years. “We’re family,” said Williams of his co-workers and the customers who return again and again when flowers are needed — for a birthday, an anniversary, to get well, a wedding or funeral or “just because.” The M&W Flower Shop has been on Main Street in downtown Chatham for 54 years. Williams, 82, bought it from the previous owners along with his former business partner, Jerry Mosler, who died about eight years ago. He now co-owns the business at 20 Main St. with Rose. When Williams arrived in Chatham he likes to say, “I had a 22-inch waist, black hair and thought I was hot.” “Everyone has heard that,” teased Hall, who came to M&W about seven years after working at a shop in Altavista. Being on Main Street for more than a half century has allowed Williams to watch the town’s transition. It was once a bustling downtown and the flower shop stayed open nights during the holiday season, he said of the 1970s. “We’ve seen ‘em come and we’ve seen ‘em go,” said Williams of the different businesses that have been on Chatham’s quaint Main Street that also serves as the seat for
M&W Flower Shop, located at 20 Main St. has been at its same location for 54 years.

Pittsylvania County. Through all the changes, the M&W Flower Shop has endured. “We’re the social hub for downtown Chatham,” said Williams. Angeles Atkinson stopped in one day in late March for a visit. M&W helped her with flowers recently for her late husband Stephen’s funeral. Atkinson said the florists “went the extra mile” and prepared 45 floral arrangements for all the support personnel who had helped her husband over the years, such as doctors, church members, therapists and more. “I could not ask for better friends during this difficult time,” she said. When Atkinson arrived at the shop, Williams, of course, greeted her with his signature effusive effervescence. Williams may be an octogenarian, but he has no plans to stop working, as retail is all he knows. “I won’t retire. I will be here until I die or Jesus comes first,” he jokes. Williams loves to talk and especially enjoys staying in touch with everything that’s going on in Chatham — and with M&W being the “social hub,” that’s not hard to do. Rose graduated with top honors from Danville Community College in accounting, but has also managed to access his creative side — combining a head for business with a love of color, form and texture. Rose was working part-time as a delivery driver at M&W in the late 80s when he was asked if he could arrange three carnations in a bud vase. “That’s how I got started,” he said. Rose hasn’t been formally trained in floral arranging, but 24 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
learned on the job by attending conferences and other events where he was able to pick up the art and design of the trade. His mother, Lola Rose, 93, also worked at the shop and retired just two year earlier. Younger delivers the flowers once the arrangements are created — a job she loves for the immediate — and usually happy — reaction she receives from recipients. Her most memorable customer was a blind woman who often received flowers from family members living out of town. Since the woman could not see the flowers, Younger was asked to describe their colors, shapes and textures. “That’s what it’s about. I made her smile, I love what I do,” she said. Rose said selling flowers is about touching a special place that is unique to each person. Perhaps it the color, the smell or the type of flower itself, that sparks a memory or feeling in the customer. “We deliver emotions,” he said. •

MASTER NATURALISTS PROMOTE CONSERVATION, VOLUNTEERISM THROUGHOUT VIRGINIA STORY BY ADAM POWELL

The state of Virginia has a wonderful program in place for those who seek not only to preserve the state’s natural resources, but also to find ways to give back. The Virginia Master Naturalist are a community-based program that includes volunteer educators, citizen scientists, and stewards under a common purpose — to help Virginia conserve and manage natural resources and public lands. “We are a statewide volunteer training and service program focused on natural resources,” said Michelle Prysby, the statewide director of the Virginia Master Naturalist 26 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
Program. “We are focused on natural resource conservation, environmental education, citizen science relating to natural resources, and we have volunteers involved in those things all across Virginia.” Prysby, who works in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also works with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, which serves as the lead sponsor of the Master Naturalists. Additional sponsoring agencies include the Virginia Department of Conservation and

We have 30 chapters around Virginia in the program. Each of those 30 chapters are run by volunteers, and they are responsible for coordinating the training of new volunteers, recruiting new volunteers, and getting new projects set up for people to do

Recreation, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the Virginia Museum of Natural History, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s Center for Coastal Resources Management. The program is based in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation within the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech. “We are a program that is sponsored by seven different state agencies in Virginia,” Prysby explained. “The Master Naturalist program is not a stand-alone statewide organization. It is a program that is within Virginia Tech, and Virginia Cooperative Extensions as our lead sponsor. In addition to the Virginia Cooperative Extension, there are six other agencies that sponsor the program.” The Master Naturalists are primarily a volunteer organization, which more than 2,000 people throughout the state of Virginia across 30 chapters who come together to promote natural resource conservation, along with education and the promotion of access to public lands.

VMN volunteers in the Central Piedmont Chapter partner with the James River Association to monitor and test the Appomattox River water quality under the Main Street Bridge in Farmville every week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. River quality monitoring throughout the Appomattox and James Rivers provide Virginia citizens a monitored and safe recreational river experience. Before jumping in the river for a swim, or kayaking, canoeing and fishing, the public can look on the James River Association website, and obtain current “real-time” river quality and conditions. Prysby indicated that the Virginia Master Naturalists work within a few broad categories, including education and outreach, citizen science and stewardship. “Education and outreach might include things like leading a nature walk in the community for the public, or being a guest presenter on a natural resource topic for a school group. Or doing an educational program at a facility like the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville, which is one of our sponsoring agencies, and we have a chapter there. Or it could include developing educational materials like interpretive signs or brochures for trails or parks.” “The second category is citizen science,” Prysby continued. “That isall sorts of monitoring of natural resources. A really common one for our volunteers is water quality monitoring. They are going out to local streams and rivers and monitoring the water quality, either through doing chemical testing of water samples, or by looking for invertebrate animals in the water stream that are indicators of how the water quality is. Other citizen science projects include collecting data on all kinds of wildlife. Some do weather monitoring projects. But water stream quality is a really big one.” “The third category is stewardship. That is on the ground work like habitat restoration or trail maintenance - things that improve our parks and natural resources, or improve peoples’ access to them.” “We have about 2,200 people who actively volunteered in the program last year,” Prysby explained. “They come 28 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
from all kinds of places, and there is no prerequisite to being in the program in terms of having some sort of degree in science, or any sort of job background in natural resources. The prerequisite is an interest in learning about nature, and a commitment to volunteering. There are people who come in with a lot of background in natural resources, and people who come in with not very much background in that at all. But they do share the idea that they want to volunteer to do something to help natural resources, participate in conservation where they live in a way that is for public benefit. And they often come because they are interested in meeting other people who share their passion for nature.” One of the newest chapters of the Virginia Master Naturalist program happens to be in Southside Virginia — the Southern Piedmont Chapter. “Our newest chapter is the Southern Piedmont Chapter. They are having their very first training course for new volunteers right now,” Prysby said. “They come mainly from Mecklenburg County, but serve all of the counties surrounding that. They are doing training right now, and having that chapter has really helped us fill a gap. We didn’t have any other chapter close by there, so people who wanted to be in the program in that part of the state didn’t really have a good option for a chapter that they could join. And the state parks in that part of the state really didn’t have a nearby Master Naturalist chapter that they could work with to get volunteers. So we’re really excited to have them.” Terri Mewborn, a volunteer leader within the Southern
Piedmont Chapter, indicated that the new chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists sprung to life initially through a collection of natural resource activists who came together on social media. “The Southern Piedmont Chapter is the newest Virginia Master Naturalist chapter, chartered in July 2021,” Mewborn said. “This chapter evolved from a local Facebook group, “Southside Online Naturalist Group (SONG)” which brought together a community of naturalists in the Southern Piedmont counties, aka “Southside Virginia.” According to Mewborn, the SONG Facebook group has grown to over 300 members, and of those, 20 are currently in the chapter’s first Virginia Master Naturalist Basic Training and certification course, which runs through September. “There is already a waiting list for next year’s course, which is a testament to the Southside residents’ appreciation for nature and conservation,” Mewborn said. “The chapter’s focus counties include Mecklenburg, Halifax, Lunenburg, Brunswick, and Charlotte counties — a sprawling, rural region. Over the past two years, the Southern Piedmont Chapter and its predecessor group, SONG, have hosted many educational programs and service projects, which has made the local community aware of not only the aims and goals of the Master Naturalists, but to provide opportunities for local
residents to volunteer. “We have provided public programs on forestry, birding, native bees, and nature journaling,” Mewborn explained. “We have partnered with Virginia State Parks, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Tobacco Heritage Trail organization on service projects, such as refurbishing a model Native American hunting shelter, restoring two historic cemeteries, and litter collection in three of our five counties. Most recently, the Southern Piedmont Chapter has joined the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Adopt-a-Highway program, committing to ongoing litter cleanup along a section of roadway. The chapter has also adopted the Christanna Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail, a program managed by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).” “Chapter members are particularly looking forward to observing and documenting the birds, other animals, and plants along the Christanna Loop — a wonderful way to contribute to citizen science as well as encourage local communities to get out on the trails with us,” she added. HISTORY & THE OUTDOORS CONVERGE ON THE RINGGOLD TRAIL STORY & PHOTOS BY DIANA MCFARLAND
Walk the route once taken by the Confederate troops when rail cars ferried men and supplies between Richmond and Southside Virginia and points further south on what is known locally as the Ringgold Trail, or the Richmond and Danville Rail-Trail. Formerly part of the Norfolk Southern railway system, the 5.5 trail opened in 2001. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy a comfortable journey through leafy forests and past farm land that for many allow a place to “unplug” from the stresses of daily life. The lightly graveled trail is also wheelchair accessible. Rail trails are built along former railroad corridors, and the flat or gently sloping nature of these pathways makes them easily accessible. They can be used for many different activities, such as walking, cycling, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has identified more than 2,000 rail-trails, with at least one in every state, according to 30 | DISCOVER MAGAZINE | SOUTHSIDE
the organization. Special features of the Ringgold Trail include a restored railroad depot and caboose at the Ringgold Road trailhead, along with informational signs along the route that provide more history about the former Confederate transportation corridor. Those keeping track of their mileage will be pleased to see indicators at each half-mile mark. Picnic tables are provided at trailheads for a place to take a break and have a snack. A stone bridge is also part of the trail, but is currently closed for repairs. The trail passes by Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, which includes some hand-carved tombstones Tropical Storm Michael washed out a portion of the trail in 2018, as well as destabilized the bridge, so only two miles are currently open. Pittsylvania County has received $3.3 million from FEMA and the state to make the necessary repairs to the trail and
bridge and it is anticipated that the portion of trail will reopen in December 2022 once the work is completed, according to county spokesman Caleb Ayers. The Ringgold railroad station was completed in 1855 and train traffic began the next year. Confederate soldiers from North and South Carolina used the rail line to fight battles further north. Confederate President Jefferson Davis rode the rail line in 1865 to travel to Sutherlin Mansion in Danville, which was the last capital of the Confederacy. Many other presidents traveled the line, to include Grover Cleveland, who passed
through Ringgold while on the campaign trail. By 1958 the use of cars and planes had increased to the point where the rail line was closed. Three trailheads provide access to the trail: From Danville, take US 58 east for 2.5 miles then head north on State Route 734/Ringgold Road for three miles. To access the Kerns Church Road Trailhead, continue east on US 58 for 3.75 miles then head north on State Route 656/ Hackberry Road for 3.25 miles. The Shawnee Road Trailhead is 1.5 miles from the Ringgold Road Trailhead and four miles from the Kerns Church Road Trailhead. •

Community Holiday Light Show
Now is the time to begin planning your display for the Community Holiday Light Show! Help light up the park December 8 – 23. Spaces are limited so reserve your spot today. Have you been interested in kayaking, but want to try it out before buying your own boat? Rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard from our boathouse at Abreu-Grogan Park and be ready to beat the summer heat and enjoy a peaceful day of paddling. Boathouse hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. All boats must remain on site. Boats are also available to rent by appointment Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (434) 799-5150.

All you need is a group of friends or co-workers and we can plan your next outdoor trip! We will work with you on your group size and needs to develop a personalized trip for you and your group. Disc Golf at Ballou Park
Play a round at the challenging 18-hole course with several new pro and amateur tees. The nine-hole course now has tee pads, signs and a kiosk thanks to three scouts who took on course improvements for their Eagle projects. Philip Wyatt Memorial Skate Park
