Departmental Honors English These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing a solid white cord.

To achieve this honor they have completed a minimum of four English courses during high school and maintained a GPA value of “A” in each course.

Math These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing a solid gold cord. To achieve this honor they have completed a minimum of four Math courses during high school and earned a GPA value of “A” in each course.

Science These seniors have completed a minimum of four Science courses and maintained a GPA value of an “A” in each course. Science honorees are wearing a solid bronze cord.

Social Studies These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing royal blue, royal blue and white cord. To achieve this honor they maintained a GPA value of an “A” in a minimum of four (4) Social Studies courses.

Fine Arts These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing a solid pink cord. To achieve this honor they have completed a minimum of four Fine Arts courses during high school and earned a GPA value of “A’ in the fine arts courses.

Business & Marketing These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing solid black cords.

To achieve this honor they completed the program and maintained an “A” in the course.

Health & Medical Sciences These seniors have taken the three Health and Medical Sciences courses or two Pharmacy Technician courses and earned a GPA minimum of 3.5 in the courses. These honorees are recognized with a red, red, and white cord.

Band, Music (Choral) and Theater Arts For outstanding contributions to Theatre Arts, these students have earned a minimum of 20 points equivalent to 10 hours per point, working on shows in Theatre Arts programs.

They will be wearing blue and gold cords at graduation signifying induction to the International Thespian Society.

Honor Thespians have earned more than 100 points or more than 1,000 hours in four years in Theater Arts.

Trade & Industry Education These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing a black, black and gold cord and/or a pewter medallion. To achieve this honor they have completed the departmental program during high school and earned a GPA minimum of 3.5 in the program.

Family & Consumer Science These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing braided red and white

Organizational Recognition FFA These seniors have distinguished themselves during the past four years in FFA. They will be wearing solid forest green cords for graduation Southwest Virginia Governor’s School Seniors who attend the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School are wearing gold cords or recognize their achievements.

The National Honor Society The senior class has many National Honor Society members. National Honor Society

members are distinguished among their classmates by wearing blue and white stoles with The National Honor Society Emblem.

These students have achieved a GPA of 3.6 or above, were recommended by faculty members and are active participants in community service and volunteer organizations.

PCPS Governor’s STEM Academy Students will receive a pewter medallion indicating their achievements.

Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow Students will receive red and black cords

indicating their achievement.

National Technical Honor Society These seniors will receive purple and silver cords indicating their achievements.

Students must attain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), and be enrolled in a career/technical education program or major.

Color Guard Award Students will receive a Color Guard pin indicating their achievement.

Honor Graduates Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 3.6 to 3.79.

Students will receive a BLUE tassel and medallion indicating their achievement.

High Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “High Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 3.8 to 3.99.

Students will receive a SILVER tassel and medallion indicating their achievement.

Highest Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “Highest Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 4.0 or above. Students will receive a GOLD tassel and MEDALLION indicating their achievement.

Virginia Dept. of Education Diploma Seals The Governor’s Seal The Governor’s Seal shall be awarded to students who complete the requirements for an Advanced Studies Diploma with an average grade of “B” or better, and successfully complete college-level coursework that will earn the student at least nine transferable college credits in Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge or dual enrollment courses.

The Board of Education Seal The Board of Education Seal shall be awarded to students who complete the requirements for a Standard Diploma or Advanced Studies Diploma with an average grade of “A.”

The Career and Technical Education Seal Career and Technical Education Seal shall be awarded to students who: (1) earn a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma and complete a prescribed sequence of courses in a career and technical education concentration or specialization that they choose and maintain a “B” or better average in those courses; or (2) pass an examination or an occupational competency assessment in a career and technical education concentration or specialization that confers a certification or occupational competency credential from a recognized industry, trade or professional association; or (3) acquire a professional license in that career and technical education field from the commonwealth of Virginia. The Board of Education shall approve all professional licenses and examinations used to satisfy these requirements.

The Excellence in Civics Education Seal The Advanced Mathematics and Technology Seal Advanced Mathematics and Technology Seal shall be awarded to students who earn either a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma, and: (1) satisfy all of the mathematics requirement for the Advanced Studies Diploma (four units of credit, including Algebra II; two verified units of credit) with a “B” average or better; and (2) either (a) pass an examination in a career and technical education field that confers certification from a recognized industry, trade or professional association; (b) acquire a professional license in a career and technical education field from the commonwealth of Virginia; or (c) pass an examination approved by the board that confers college-level credit in a technology or computer science area. The Board of Education shall approve all professional licenses and examinations used to satisfy these requirements.

The Governor’s STEM Academy Seal The Governor’s STEM Academy Seal shall be awarded to students who maintain a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average and recommendation from the Academy program area teacher and successfully complete the necessary dual enrollment placement test; complete dual enrollment credit courses and earn a “C” or better in the course; achieve passing scores on the highest level attained on the English and mathematics Standards of Learning tests; complete courses within a specific pathway in the STEM Engineering and Technology, Architecture and Construction, and Production Career Clusters; achieve one or more of an industry certification, at least nine transferable college credits or an associate degree; and complete school/community service and a Senior Project, and adhere to the student code of conduct and attendance policies.

Excellence in Civics Education Seal shall be awarded to students who earn either a Modified Standard, Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma; and (1) complete Virginia and United States history and Virginia and United States government courses with a grade of “B” or higher; (2) have good attendance and no disciplinary infractions as determined by local school board policies; and (3) complete 50 hours of voluntary participation in community service or extracurricular activities. Activities that would satisfy the requirements of clause (3) of this subdivision include (a) volunteering for a charitable or religious organization that provides services to the poor, sick or less fortunate; (b) participating in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or similar youth organizations; (c) participating in JROTC; (d) participating in political campaigns or government internships or Boys State, Girls State or Model General Assembly; or (e) participating in school-sponsored extracurricular activities that have a civics focus. Any student who enlists in the United States military prior to graduation will be deemed to have met this community service requirement.

The Seal of Biliteracy The Seal of Biliteracy shall be awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one other language, and meet additional criteria established by the Board of Education – foreign language means a language other than English, and includes American Sign Language; who earn a Board of Education-approved diploma; pass all required End-of-Course Assessments in English reading and writing at the proficient or higher level; and be proficient at he intermediate-mid level or higher in one or more languages other than English, as demonstrated through an assessment from a list to be approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Class of 2022 Dear PCHS Class of 2022, Congratulations on making it through to your high school graduation! It always seems that there is a great rush of energy and excitement tinged with a little sadness around commencement ceremonies. The excitement comes from knowing that you are about to make decisions that will set the course for your future and in knowing that you’ve just completed a major step toward independence as an adult. The sadness exists from knowing that you will soon be saying goodbye to friends who helped define your childhood. It is a bittersweet experience but thankfully the sweet greatly diminishes the bitter.

Let me say that I am incredibly sorry that your final three years of high school were impacted so significantly by the Covid pandemic. It is definitely not fair that you were deprived of so many great opportunities that have long been considered defining moments of the high school experience. However, I would like to sincerely thank you for the courage and optimism displayed to our entire community by turning these unusual circumstances into a fantastic year which you have filled with enough memories to last a lifetime.

Please walk across that stage on graduation night with the knowledge that you will forever hold a special place in the history of Pulaski County High School. There has never been a graduating class that has endured what you have endured and the fact that you have excelled as a group is a testament to your strength of character and work ethic. You are survivors, you are winners, and you have made our entire community incredibly proud. One guiding principle in life should always be to leave things better than you found them and there is no doubt that our schools are better because the PCHS Class of 2022 came through them. Congratulations Seniors! May your journey be long, your heart content, and your spirit echo through generations.

Most Valuable Cougar Nominees Kimberly Lyons

Kimberly has maintained straight A’s since kindergarten. She has been a DECA member for three years, National Honor Society for two, and is a certified Scuba diver. Kimberly has participated in competition cheer for four years and sideline cheer for three years here at PCHS. She has been accepted to Virginia Tech for 2022 with a BioChem major and pre med focus. Kimberly, daughter of Dustin and Faye Lyons, likes to spend her spare time baking and enjoys Crossfit.

Skyy Semones Skyy is a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. Skyy has an immense amount of love for the arts including singing, dancing, acting, drawing, playing and composing music on four different instruments (three which are self taught), plus has competed and placed in talent shows. He has also participated in theater, band, and choir since middle school. Skyy grew up in Pulaski and has been passionate about school and his community since he was a Critzer Critter. He recently spoke at the VSBA Conference, is president of Red Cross and GSA and is a student representative of the School Board and the Equity Team. He is the son of Barry Semones and Swana Coffey.

Arushi Arora Arushi is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, fluent in four languages, dual enrolled at NRCC, and reporter for our Red Cross Club. Arushi was recently accepted to Virginia Tech as a biology major and is currently working to earn her Pharmacy Tech license. She also serves as the Science MACC team captain and is parliamentarian for the National Honor Society. Arushi is a Southwest Virginia Governor’s School student and will earn her associate’s degree by next summer. She is the daughter of Amit and Monika Arora.

Allen Queen Allen is a member of the National Honor Society and the International Thespian Society.

He has participated with the PCHS Theater Arts department since he was in the first grade.

He is an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Allen has also represented the Class of 2022 as a senior of the month for our district’s school board meeting. Allen, the son of Brian Queen and Leslie Queen, can be found volunteering for The Daily Bread or the Color Me Cameron Run/Walk.

Gwendolyn Puckett Gwendolyn is a member of the National Honor Society, Skills USA, Red Cross and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa at NRCC and has attended Southwest Virginia Governor’s School.

Gwendolyn has been a member of the softball team and choir during her time at PCHS. She is a member of Jordan’s Chapel United Methodist Church and has made NRCC Dean’s list. Gwendolyn is the daughter of Matthew and Brenda Puckett.

Brooke Arnold Brooke has participated in DECA this school year, served on the CTE Advisory Team and PCHS School and Community Team, and has been a member of the National Honor Society since her tenth grade year. She is currently serving as the National Honor Society president and Senior Class President. She is also in FCCLA and enjoys coaching recreation league soccer. Brooke has been on the PCHS soccer teams since eighth grade serving as JV and Varsity captain her eighth grade and senior year. Brooke, the daughter of Marvin and Stacy Arnold, also represents the senior class as a member of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.

Carrie Blankenship Carrie is a member of the National Honor Society, a class officer for two years, and a member of the Golden Cougar Marching band for two years. She has been performing with the PCHS Theater Arts department since first grade, and has held roles in many productions.

Carrie is also a member of the PCHS Advanced Choir and takes dance classes in her free time. She is the daughter of Bryant and Bridget Blankenship.

Elaja Rollins Elaja is a lifelong Cougar who radiates positivity and energy into our Cougar community on a daily basis. He has participated in dual enrollment CTE courses and has completed all levels of electricity and makers lab. Elaja plans to attend Old Dominion University to study electrical engineering. He has volunteered with the Boy Scouts and attends Max Creek Baptist church. He enjoys being encouraging and helping others. Elaja, son of Marissa Rollins and Anthony Mcalone, was our first Senior of the Month for this senior class.
