L Krystle Byrd is a happily married mother of three –– Charlie, Annalise and Willow –– who resides in Paris with her husband, Klark Byrd. She has always had a love of reading, which has fed into her love of writing. She also enjoys photography, especially in the fall, which is her favorite season.
Toni Clem has written the Deja View column since 1984. She has been married 51 years to Paris attorney A.W. “Plug” Clem of the Moore Law Firm, and has two grown sons, Chivas and Bachman. She had a Public Relations/Marketing firm, T.Clem & Associates, from 1986 to 2016. She is a graduate of the University of Texas/Austin, where she started graduate school. She continued that at Texas A&M Commerce, where she was a graduate instructor in political science. When she and Plug moved to Paris in 1969, her first job was ‘Society Editor’ for The Paris News. She left that to be press secretary for Jim Farris’ congressional campaign. She is an active member of the Northeast Texas community.
M Shannon McGuire is a graduate of Roxton ISD, after which he played collegiate basketball for four years and graduated from both Grayson County College and Wayland Baptist University. He also graduated from Dallas Bible Theological Institute. He has been employed for the last 22 years at Collin County Juvenile Probation Department serving as the Court/Legal Liaison for Juvenile Detention and Probation in the 417th District Court Collin County, Texas. He has been pastoring for 11 years and currently serves as Senior Pastor at Paris New Generation Church, 1513 Lamar Ave. in Paris. He is married with two children.

Ayesha Shafiq lives in Paris with her husband, Dr. Khalid Shafiq, who owns Paris Cardiology Center. She has three kids, Sayekm, Layla and Maya. Ayesha has been writing a heath column for Paris Life magazine for the past few years.

ony oss is a part of many local bands. e has an active music and business, oss ntertainment, he plays in his local church s music ministry, and he s also a school teacher. ony has played for a variety of venues and continues to humbly receive praise from satisfied customers for his outstanding business standards. It brings me to the ible verse, roverbs , A man s gift makes room for him and brings before him great men, ony said. ith so many activities on his plate, it might seem the music life could be stressful but not for ony. or me, music is a form of therapy, going all the way back to when I was a kid. usic keeps me sane and focused on something positive, he said. ony also receives a lot of support from his wife and family. nfortunately, most musicians have to work during the times when most people are spending with their families and that can be really tough. hankfully, I have such a supportive wife and family at home, to be able to do this. hey sacrifice their time with me a lot. y wife is very understanding of what I have to do. he music life is definitely not easy, on the musicians or the family. As ony notes, there s a lot of investment in equipment, and the time away can never be given back but this is what he loves to do. It s not such a harsh reality when your second job is the same as your passion, he said. As ony continues to build oss ntertainment, he carves out time for playing with all of the bands he s involved with and loves every minute. veryone s looking for a purpose in life, a deeper meaning, a way to leave their mark. usic is my mark. u

Actually, jewelry should be the last thing you put on when you leave the house and the first thing you take off when you get home. Should the Federal Trade Commis Commission sign off on the acquisition, the deal will complete in 2023 and Kotick will be out as CEO. Activision Blizzard will report directly to Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming.
Spencer has a great reputation as a leader and CEO, and the studios previously bought by Microsoft — Rare, Mojang, Playground Games and Obsidian Entertainment, to name a few — are generally only heard about when they’re ready to release a game. What does Microsoft get out of it? It gets more intellectual properties for its Game Pass service, a bump in mobile gaming power and entry into whatever “metaverse” is being built. And that comes at a time when Sony is rumored to be working on Project Spartacus, a Game Pass rivel combining Sony’s PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services. Elsewhere in the industry, Google is quietly walking away from Stadia. The company swears it will continue to bring more games to its streaming platform, but it’s licensing the technology that powers Stadia to other companies like Peloton and AT&T for their own initiatives.
Then there’s Nintendo. Good ol’ Nintendo continues to move forward without the need to purchase other studios and developers. And that’s worked for Nintendo, so far. We’ll have to see what the future holds, and what these acquisitions by Microsoft and Sony will mean for the future of video games.

Embrace your destiny, Guardian Between releasing a DLC on Feb. 22 and Sony’s acquisition of game developer Bungie, “Destiny 2,” a massively multiplayer online-only first person shooter, has been making quite a few headlines lately — enough so I decided to give the game a go. By the time this magazine prints, the latest DLC, “The Witch Queen,” will be available, and that means portions of “Destiny 2” I played in early February will be secured away in the Destiny Content Vault. Downloading “Destiny 2” to my PlayStation 5 required 101 GB of free space, and that’s going to increase to 105 GB with “The Witch Queen,” according to Bungie. So keep that in mind if your game system is running tight on space. While the game downloaded, I started playing it on Google Stadia. I created my character, an Exo Warlock, and played through the tutorial rounds. I also created and linked a Bungie account to my Stadia and PlayStation account so I’d have my character no matter which system I’m playing on. Here Bungie did an awesome job — you can freely switch between platforms while keeping your character progress. I also love that “Destiny 2” is crossplatform, meaning you can play with your friends no matter which version they’re using. No matter where you play “Destiny 2,” you’ll start the game with a choice to make: Are you a Warlock, Hunter or Titan? Titans may be slow, but they’re resistant to damage and have aggressive assaults, whereas Hunt30 Paris Life
ers are quick on the draw and extremely agile but fall at the drop of a hat. Warlocks are the middle-of-the-road option. Each class offers a choice of subclass to boost an aspect. Although purely aesthetic, players also get to choose a species: human, Awoken or Exo. Awoken are the blue-gray skinned descendants of humans and Exos are humanoid machines. The game’s customization goes even deeper once you start earning weapons and armor. It’s important to note that “Destiny 2” has evolved quite a bit since its release in 2017. Originally pay-to-play, the game became free to play with the Oct. 1, 2019, “New Light” DLC release. New players now get an opening cinematic with narration providing a history of the game’s world, followed by Ghost resurrecting the player at the Cosmodrome. All Guardians are first resurrected by their Ghost with no memory of their past life. Your Ghost not only provides information, but also resurrects you when you die in the game.
The world of “Destiny 2” is shared and living. You’re sure to encounter other players tackling player versus environment challenges, including strikes, raids, dungeons and public events. You can team up with other players or create a party with friends. There’s also the Crucible, a player versus player game mode to test your skill against other Guardians. “The Witch Queen” won’t be the final DLC for “Destiny 2.” Bungie has said this part of the “Light and Dark Saga” will be followed by “Lightfall” in early 2023 and a final chapter, “The Final Shape,” presumably in 2024 before the beginning of a new saga. That means there’s plenty of life left in this game, which also boasts improvements for next gen consoles. So, Guardian, are you ready to stand your ground against the Witch Queen? Savathûn has stolen the Light, but you’ll have 50 new weapons, six new exotic armor pieces and powerful exotic guns to help stop her and her undead army. y the time this article comes out, I will have completed an eight week sermon series titled I Am. It was placed upon my heart to preach this series, not only out of a deep re sponsibility as a pastor, but also reali ing that esus himself thought it to be important, too. he series takes us through the book of ohn beginning in chapter . esus is teaching and iden tifying who he truly is, what his life means to us and how, if we let him, he can have a major impact on our lives. esus e plains this in a very simple and easy way to understand. even times in the book of ohn, and once in the book for evelations, esus refers to himself as I Am. e have learned in the last few weeks that esus said, I Am the bread of life. As the bread of life, esus satisfies. esus also said, I Am the light, and as the light e sancti fies. e t, he said I Am the door, and esus as the door is referring to a door that saves. n a recent unday, we learned esus said, I Am the ood hepherd. his is a shepherd who leads and sacrifices, paying the ultimate price for his flock. As the ood hepherd, he reveals his care for us, the sheep. ing avid had a close relationship with the ord. In salm , he refers to the ord being his shepherd. hrough his poetic imagery, he e presses his complete trust in esus to lead, protect and meet all his needs. his passage of scripture has given many of us peace, hope and comfort in our times of need. ver the weekend, I ran into a man I hadn t seen in many years. here was an encounter we had that I ve never forgotten, and I finally had the opportunity to thank him for what he did for me. ack in the day, oddy ortham was a big time football player in aris. e had everything

one needed to be a successful football player muscled up and strong. I was, on the other hand, a skinny si th grader from o ton, trying to be cool at the local skating rink. ne night while I was at kateland, by myself, a big fight broke out. eep in mind I was just a little country boy from o ton. I was scared to death and didn t know what to do. oddy saw me and said, ey little man, hold onto the back of my shirt. I got you. I held on tight, staying close, while oddy led me out of the chaos to safety. I ve never forgotten that and as I stated before, I finally had the opportunity to thank him just a few days ago. hat s a great story, but I ve got an even better one. he ible tells us that esus leads his sheep, calls his sheep by name, speaks to his sheep, and when he puts forth his own sheep, e goes before them and they follow him. hy do they follow him ecause they know his voice and he leads the way. on t ever forget the times that esus, as the ood hepherd, has led you to safety, protected you and provided for you. It s important we stick with the ord and follow him closely. ust like sheep, we oftentimes don t even know when we are in danger or can t fully understand what we truly need, but e does. e s always there looking out for us. I encourage you to read the entire book of ohn. here is a lot of meat in this book possi bly more than you may have ever reali ed. About in adults at least have some signs of kidney damage. very human has a pair of kidneys, and each kidney is the si e of your fist. he kidneys do an important function by maintaining the right balance of water and other nutrients inside the body. ince kidney malfunction does not cause symptoms right away, in most cases, you may not feel sick until the issue becomes serious or irreversible. ou can lose three quarters of your kidney function and still have no symptoms. he main job of the kidneys is to filter your blood. ach kidney possesses a million filters that can process about gallons of fluid a day. hen blood passes through the kidneys, the filters sift the nutrients and wa ter that your body needs and filters the harmful wastes and e tra nutrients to the bladder to be flushed out. he kidneys also produce several hormones that

his is one of my late olombian ather in aw, erman enavides , favorite dishes. It is known in ogot , olombia to be a hangover cure, and is often made prior to a fun night out, to be eaten for breakfast the ne t morning. I could eat it at any time of the day however. I do find it to be very soothing, and now that I have been introduced to it, I crave it frequently. I believe in this time of I , when so many people are under the weather , that this is the perfect dish to make. aldo de ostilla was around before bone broth was all the rage y husband, enavides, makes this soup now in the tradition of his late father, and so does my mother in law, aria. he is a wonderful and natural cook, and this recipe was born from watch ing them make this time and time again. he never gives e act measurements, but somehow her dishes are always divine. After observing them make this, and through my own trial and error, I give you this recipe. . In a blender, add the garlic cloves, scallions and cilantro with enough water to blend every thing together. our mi ture over short ribs, then add enough water to the utch oven to cover ribs by about inches.
. eanwhile, make the Ahi by adding all aji ingredients to the blender. our into small bowl and set aside for serving. . If your short ribs are e tremely fatty, you can cool and remove the fat once it solidifies, then bring the mi ture back to a boil to warm it up before serving.
. ring mi ture to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for about hours, keeping an eye on the water level. Add more water if needed. kim the top periodically and discard foam.
