Untreated abuse and neglect can affect a child’s physical and mental health, their ability to control emotions and impulses; it impacts their success in school, and the relationships they form as adults. The CAC utilizes a collaborative process to identify, treat, and advocate for safe, permanent outcomes for children. We support a community-based multidisciplinary approach when responding to abuse, as well as, comprehensive case management. We conduct forensic interviews (to get the details); coordinate medical assessments (to identify the physical injuries); deliver mental health services (to identify the emotional wounds); and offer family advocacy (support the non-offending caregivers). We provide judicial advocacy through Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) services and set up closed circuit TV when cases go to court; as well as, conduct education and outreach programs (to teach individuals how to report their concerns). This wrap-around response is grounded in research and saves communities money. Paying off the mortgage will reduce the center’s annual expenses by approximately $29,000; allowing us to apply more focus and funds towards victim services.
