PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I guess we all can take a little time to reflect on the last year of 2021 and see how much our lives and businesses have changed due to Covid-19 and mandates. The Nash- Mary Grace ville Cham- Daughtridge ber has MGD Realty c o n t i n u e d , Group , LLC as a board of directors and officers, to provide to our local businesses what was available to continue to help them where needed to get through this pandemic. It has been quite a struggle for some of them to stay afloat and to provide the public with their needs. Our children have had such changes as virtual learning, our teachers virtually teaching, our businesses transitioning to virtual and online sales. Our meetings and planning have been mostly by Zoom and online, email and phone conversations. With all that being said, we are excited for the lifting of mandates and are again able to meet in public and also bring back this year our wonderful Blooming Festival on Mother’s Day weekend. We were able to have our Children’s Christmas parade in December in which we partnered with Parks and Recreation Dept in Nashville. The children were overjoyed to be able to decorate their “rides” to participate for prizes. All enjoyed the reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” around the newly purchased Christmas tree in the Battleship area downtown. Vendors with goods to sell, actual snow coming down, Santa seeing each one and the games provided for them to finally get out and have an enjoyable afternoon. We recently celebrated the presentation of our 2022 Dis-
tinguished Citizen award to Christian Community Services, a group of men whose ministry is to build handicap ramps. I am so excited to see the new changes coming to Nashville that will continue growth in our community while keeping with that small town atmosphere. Corner Coffee Cafe celebrated a year under new ownership, new businesses opening include the Vino Market, Dunkin’ Donuts, Pink Flamingo Real Estate, 3D Fitness, Bubbles & Bows Pet Salon, Bethel Villa of Nashville and Shining Star Child Care. The Nashville Building Supply Building will soon be known as “The Nashville Junction” with 11 tenant spots for business and a farmers market. We look forward to what 20222023 has in store for growth and development in our chamber. As president for the last few years, I want to say what a great board of directors we have had and continue to have. Without the volunteers and service of our directors and chamber members there would be no support of our wonderful local small business partners, our Blooming Festival or our Children’s Parade to mention only a few. Without our small businesses our area citizens would not have the conveniences that we all enjoy today. Thank you to our small businesses and to our chamber members and volunteers. As I write this message may I say how fortunate we are in our nation to have our freedom and be allowed to be an individual, to be able to be an entrepreneur, to go and do things as we please and to worship in our own preference, no matter what our religious preference. We need to come together as individuals and pray each other and for our country and the less fortunate in other countries that do not have the choice of freedom. May we treat each other with the love and kindness we wish to be treated with and to help others in need.

VICE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The Nashville Chamber of Commerce recently held its Distinguished Citizen event which recognizes an individual or group of individuals who work to bring about improvement and increase the quality of life here in Nashville and the surrounding area. At the same time a local youth aged 12-18 is honored for their efforts to make this community a better place to live. Whether their work is through school, church, civic group or just on their own, current and future residents will reap the benefits of their endeavors. Congratulations to our recipients Christian Community Services and Alyssa Hasan. After two years of no Blooming Festival, everyone is anticipating Mother’s Day weekend and all the fun and excitement the event brings. Countless hours of planning, fund raising and checking each list twice add up to a Festival we can all enjoy and be proud of. From the Friday night band and street dance to the Saturday parade, carni-
val, and all the craft and food vendors to the local and national musical talent on Saturday afternoon and evening, all should have a wonderful time. As always, we can use help. From financial support to volunteering to assist with the parade there is plenty of work to go around and the great thing about it is you meet and get to know some of the best folks around. Why don’t you try becoming an active participant next year? Of course, these are not the only projects the Chamber undertakes. At out annual meeting in the summer, a long time Nashville business and chamber member, The Valentine Law Firm was recognized as Business of the Year. Before the fall municipal elections, we sponsored a wellattended candidate forum to allow citizens to learn more about their candidates for Town Council. The Nashville Chamber also partnered with the Town of Nashville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Department and Nash County Sheriff’s Department
VOLUNTEER
Cliff Joyner Edward Jones to host a downtown Trick or Treat event along with a drive-in movie. Our annual Children’s Christmas Parade sprang back to life this year after Covid 19 even better with added events through partnership with the Town. To encourage folks to shop and support local businesses, the Chamber hosted Shop Small Saturday and a holiday season long Shop Local event. We’re fortunate to be in a growing area with new residents and businesses but we must patronize our businesses. Over the past several years this area has seen several long-time independent businesses close their doors. We welcome the regional and national chains, but local independent businesses are what separate us from other similar size towns. There are a lot of other ideas for projects to support Nashville and our business community being discussed. The Chamber welcomes all businesses and individuals to become active members to keep Nashville the best place to live and work.
Want to make a difference?
The Nashville Chamber of Commerce is always seeking volunteers who are interested in the community. The chamber offers several opportunities to volunteer including: • Distinguished Citizen Award Reception • Children’s Christmas Celebration / Bicycle Parade • Nashville Blooming Festival • Fall Social / Christmas Social / Annual Meeting • Business After Hours • Budget / Finance / Fund raising • Marketing • Networking Events • Government Affairs • Economic Development • Ribbon Cuttings Nashville Chamber of Commerce members Lisa Hattaway, • Education The Nashville Exchange, and Laura Bartholomew, Faith Christian Ministries, volunteer at Nashville Elementary School’s open house to offer information about the chamber and Nashville.
Please join us! If interested in volunteering contact us at nashvillencchamber@gmail.com or call 252.459.4050.

NASHVILLE Nashville is known for its small town charm, friendly people and is a “Great Place to Live, Work and Play.” Founded in 1780, the Town of Nashville is located in eastern North Carolina along US64 (Future I-495) only 5 minutes from I-95. It is centrally located along the east coast approximately half-way between New York City and Miami. The town has a population of 5,500 and is the County Seat for Nash County. It maintains many of the charms of southern towns with tree lined streets and older historic homes. Just over a 30 minute commute to Raleigh, NC, the town is a central location for business and pleasure. Its convenient location near the intersection of US64 (Future I-495) and I-95 allows for easy travel along multilane modern highways to nearly any part of the US. RDU International Airport is only a one hour drive. Further, it’s only a short two hour drive to points along the sandy North Carolina beaches and approximately four hours to the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains. Washington, DC, is only four hours up Interstate Highway I-95.

TOWN OF NASHVILLE
Small town charm at its best!
Nashville, NC is one of 12 Nashvilles in the United States and is the oldest. The town continues to be regarded as “A Great Place to Live, Work and Play.” Nashville’s growth rate has made it the fastest growing full service municipality in Nash County, according to the 2010 US Census. This trend is expected to continue as Nashville continues to serve as the geographical and institutional center of Nash County. However, Nashville has kept its small town charm while continuing to grow. A Downtown Redevelopment Phase I project was completed for the Washington Street area of the Downtown area which is part of a revitalization project for all of Downtown that will include improvements such as streetscape work on sidewalks, lighting, underground utilities, and building facades. This is just one of many community development projects designed to ensure focus on both issues of depth along with growth to make sure Nashville remains “A Great Place to Live, Work, and Play.” But the main key has always been the citizens of Nashville. As the county seat, the town is also host to the county administrative building, courthouse, health department, social services, emergency services, Sheriff’s Department, Senior Center, Nash Arts, and Nash-Rocky Mount School System Administrative Offices (along with Nashville Elementary, Nash Central Middle School, Nash Central High School and Northern Nash High School being located either in town or close by.)
Pictured above is the new addition to the Nash County Courthouse, which was completed in 2018. Nashville is home to multiple historic structures along with modern facilities and activities for adults and youth. Residential areas include a unique blend of historical homes and new construction. Citizens have access to a variety of businesses and services along with parks, recreation and many community organizations which contribute to the quality of life.
THE “ORIGINAL” NASHVILLE • 1780 Small town charm at its best! The Town of Nashville is a vibrant community of 5,500 citizens with a prosperous local economy. Our citizens enjoy a high quality of life with a low crime rate and great schools.
