Although the early history of the community’s settlement varies depending on which account is read, all agree that Azle was named for Dr. James Azle Steward.

Dr. Steward owned much of the land where Azle now stands. He was a great benefactor of the community, donating land for schools, businesses, churches, and eventually enough land for a town site.

Azle became an incorporated city in April of 1957 as a general law community. In 1969, the population reached 5,000, allowing Azle to become a home-rule city. The current City Charter was adopted in 1971 and has been amended over the years to meet the changing needs of the city.

Today Azle is a master-planned community with a council and boards dedicated to protecting the quality of life in the city. It is a full-service municipality, committed to caring for the community and serving the citizens.

Who We Are and What We Do The Azle Area Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)6 nonprofit organization comprised of a voluntary membership of area businesses, professionals, and interested citizens all who have joined together to improve the economic and civic wellbeing of the city of Azle and the surrounding area.

Our Chamber is financed through membership investments, fundraising, and by the support of our member businesses, professionals, and individuals who generously donate their time and services.

Our membership is comprised of both small businesses and large corporate businesses. All benefit equally as Chamber members.

Members are encouraged to become involved in Chamber activities and serve on committees that address key objectives and goals of the organization.

A Board of Directors is elected in accordance with our by-laws. The Chamber is led by an Executive Director that is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the organization.

Azle City Profile at A Glance Population Azle is located on State Highway 199, 15 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth. It encompasses 8.8 square miles and falls within two counties, Tarrant and Parker. Azle has an estimated 12,952 residents within the city limits. Roughly 35,000 additional residents make the surrounding area their home, giving a population of approximately 48,000 for the Azle Independent School District.

Eagle Mountain Lake www.eaglemountainlake.org Eagle Mountain Lake is found on the city’s eastern border and encompasses 9,200 acres. Fishing, boating, swimming, and skiing are all popular activities on Eagle Mountain Lake.

Contact the park, boat rental company, or fishing guide directory about reserving camp sites, pavilions, boat rentals, fishing guide services, or anything else that requires reservations.

Calendar of Events COMMUNITY There is always something to do in Azle. The Azle Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Azle, and many other organizations offer events for citizens and visitors to participate in throughout the year. Listed below are some of the events that take place annually in Azle.

We hope you will come out, get to know your neighbors, and enjoy the fun in Azle.

Sting Fling The annual Sting Fling Festival is an all-day Festival with crafts, food, entertainment and information booths, as well as a parade, a color fun run, and activities for all ages. It is held the 2nd Saturday of September each year and is Azle’s largest community event.

Christmas Event The annual Christmas Event held the first Saturday in December includes a parade down Main Street and a kid’s celebration at 404 Main.

Santa is on hand to hear Christmas wishes, and other fun activities take place during the event.

Annual Sporting Clay Shoot Since 2007, the Azle Area Chamber of Commerce has held a Sporting Clay Shoot in March. There are 100 challenging targets with lunch and lots of fantastic door prizes. Over 150 shooters come out for a great day of food, fun, camaraderie, and lots of prizes. The public is invited. This is quickly growing into a muchanticipated yearly event!

Annual Golf Tournament The annual Chamber Golf Tournament is held each year in May at the beautiful Cross Timbers Golf Course in Azle.

Music/Movies in the Park The City of Azle offers free musical concerts to the community. Music in the Park concerts are held at the amphitheater in Central Park, 263 W Main Street, on Friday evenings at 8pm during May and June. These concerts are a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to gather and listen to a variety of music.

Family friendly movies are shown on selected Saturdays in the Spring and Fall.

Follow the Flag Held at Central Park, 263 W Main Street, Follow the Flag is a community-wide event for the whole family that offers food, fun, fireworks, and Christian Music! Bring your family and friends, your blankets and lawn chairs and celebrate the Fourth of July in Azle!

Azle Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet February 10, 2022 The Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet is hosted in January or February every year.

This event satisfies our bylaws as a yearly membership meeting for members of the Azle Area Chamber of Commerce. It is an event that recognizes our businesses and business leaders for their achievements and contributions to the community.

Clay Shoot March 25, 2022 The Annual Clay Shoot is held in March every year, usually at the Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds. It is a fun event for members, allowing them an opportunity to spend an afternoon networking and promoting their business.

Golf Tournament May 13, 2022 The Annual Golf Tournament is held at Cross Timber’s Golf Course in Azle. Teams are recruited from area businesses and organizations. The Chamber provides lunch, games, door prizes, as well as a round of golf for our members. It is a fun day spent networking while enjoying a beloved sport.

Sting Fling Festival September 10, 2022 Azle Sting Fling Festival is held on the second Saturday in September. The festival provides the City and its surrounding communities with an all-day festival featuring vendor booths, food, entertainment, a parade, a car show, and activities for children of all ages.
