Santa is Home at Eiffel Tower Park in Paris With the help of the City of Paris, their Parks and Recreation Department and the Board of Public Utilities, The Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Paris Association led the initiative to add this 16 ft tall lighted Santa Claus, who appears to be climbing the iconic 70 ft. Eiffel Tower. “Kim Foster, Jennifer Morris,Tony Lawrence and the entire Parks and Recreation crew have done an amazing job making Eiffel Tower Park a destination. When we started the brainstorming process on what we should do this Christmas, we knew we wanted to contribute to their efforts,” commented Travis McLeese CEO of the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce. “We know how easy it is to click a button and drop an item into an online shopping cart. We believe projects like this and our events that we create provide a festive energy that gives shoppers an experience.We were thankful that Terry Wimberly and our friends at BPU has the knowledge and ability to make this come to frutition” The funds were raised as a collaborative effort through all of the Downtown Unwrapped Sponsorship opportunities. Discovery Park of America Announces Free Admission for Children in January and New Exhibits for 2022
Thanks to a partnership with Magnolia Place Assisted Living, children 17 and younger will receive free admission to Discovery Park of America in January 2022. Magnolia Place’s support is being made in memory of Bart White who was a long-time board member and board president of Magnolia Place. “Bart White was a true servant of our community and a good friend to us all,” said Cindy Cox, administrator of Magnolia Place. “This year, we see this as a way we can honor Bart while helping even more young peo-
ple have an opportunity to visit Discovery Park.” Discovery Park has developed a strong reputation for being a museum that is both educational and fun for young visitors. Tennessee Tourism’s recent award-winning Kid Reviewed campaign incorporated a wearable device called the Laugh Tracker. The device tracked laughter and heart rate to measure excitement of children at more than 30 Tennessee attractions including Discovery Park. The data was then paired with candid reviews to scientifically prove where kids have the
most fun. Young people at Discovery Park experienced “75 average laughs and 162.3 average moments of excitement per hour.” In 2022, there will be many opportunities for “moments of excitement” for children and adults at Discovery Park including three temporary exhibits. “The Fascinating World of Murray Hudson’s Globes and Maps” will shine a spotlight on one of the most unique collections of globes and maps in the world. Hudson is a former English professor, stockbroker and farmer from Dyersburg, Tenn., who owns the largest private collection of DISCOVER | 7
for-sale antiquarian maps, globes, books and prints in the world. On display will be early maps from the 16th century to the present, items of historic relevance and incredible globes that could pass for works of art. Those exploring the exhibit will also get to see rare globes that range from a two-and-a-half-foot wide diplomat’s globe from 1918 that focuses on political geography to one of the smaller curiosities in his collection, an 1840s boxed globe from Germany that shows Texas as an independent republic, just before it was annexed by the United States. This exhibit is sponsored by Conley and Conley Attorneys at Law. “Southern Artist Showcase: Hattie Marshall-Duncan” will be at Discovery Park March 31 to Oct. 24, 2022. Selftaught sculptor, Hattie Marshall-Duncan of Jackson, Tenn., turns common household items and found objects that are often overlooked into distinguished masterpieces. Hattie’s work is reflective of her African American community and family. Recipient of the 2019 Tennessee Governor’s Arts Award, Marshall-Duncan’s art is displayed statewide in various galleries including Discovery Park’s partner in this exhibit, the West Tennessee Regional Art
Center. Making its Tennessee debut Aug 12, 2022 to Jan. 8, 2023, “Discover Steampunk: A Fantastical Hands-On Adventure” includes a series of immersive galleries featuring one-of-a-kind, handson interactive Steampunk sculptures. Steampunk typically combines the romanticism of the Victorian Era, steam-powered technology and science fiction. The exhibit, created by Imagine Exhibitions, utilizes the stories of seven 19th-century visionaries to explore the power of imagination and creative problem solving. Visitors will also discover the important intersections of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), art, history and reading. The visionary authors featured in “Discover Steampunk: A Fantastical Hands-On Adventure” are: Mary Shelley, the English novelist who wrote the Gothic novel “Frankenstein;” Jules Verne, the French novelist, poet and playwright who wrote bestselling adventure novels including “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas,” and “Around the World in Eighty Days;” and H.G. Wells, the science fiction author who wrote “The Time Machine,” “War of the Worlds”
and the “The Invisible Man” and who is often remembered today as the "father of science fiction." Joining them are four influential Victorian-era inventors: Isaac Singer, who developed the sewing machine; Thomas Blanchard, who worked on automation and the first automobiles; George Eastman, who helped popularize photography; and Jan Matzeliger, the son of a Surinamese slave, whose inventions made decent footwear accessible to the masses. The annual Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Discovery Awards Gala returns on Sat., March 5, 2022 and will once again recognize individuals whose work, like that of Discovery Park, brings enlightenment, inspiration and education to those whose lives they’ve touched. The 2022 honorees are Anita Kay Archer, Lt. Gen. John “Glad” Castellaw (Ret.), Dr. Ron Kirkland and Jerry Reese. Among other events returning in 2022 is the Rhythm on the Rails Summer Concert Series on Friday evenings May 6 to June 22. This family-friendly festival will feature live performances at the Train Depot, food trucks and fishing at Discovery Park’s lake.

The evening’s total marks the 21st consecutive year that the dinner has grossed more than a million dollars. The event featured comedian and best-selling author Jeff Foxworthy, whose books have sold more than a million copies. Foxworthy shared with the audience
that he hoped that laughter would release some of the pressure and stress everyone has felt during the nearly two year COVID-19 pandemic. Foxworthy’s jokes about helping his mother learn to text on an iPhone after getting rid of her flip phone and his wife’s packing routine for family trips filled the auditorium with laughter. During a sitdown conversation with FHU President David Shannon, Foxworthy shared how discovering his gift helped shape his life. FHU’s annual benefit dinner is typical-
ly the state’s largest single-night fundraiser. Since its inception, the benefit dinner has provided students with scholarships to help bridge the gap between tuition costs and financial aid. Forever Communications was the premier media sponsor. For the second year in a row, benefit dinner guests enjoyed Christmas in the Commons which featured horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers and a hot drink station. MLF Announces 2022 Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Roster Pickwick Lake is Announced as Tournament Site
Major League Fishing (MLF) announced today the roster for the 2022 Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit, showcasing a field of 157 of the top professional anglers in the world competing in the five-biggest-fish format across six regular-season tournaments. In its 27th season, the 2022 Pro Circuit roster features a solid field of veterans and a fresh crop of rookies from across the country, all competing for a total season purse of more than $6 million. “We had a fantastic 2021 season and are excited to be going into the upcoming year stronger than ever,” said Daniel Fennel, MLF Senior Director of Tournament Operations. “We’re thrilled to offer our top pros an exciting 2022 schedule with expanded media coverage and more opportunities than ever before. 14 | DISCOVER
We’re extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the last few years, and with this power-packed group of pros, we’re looking forward to very tough competition and the opportunity to continue that legacy in 2022.” The 2022 Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit roster features former FLW Cup champions Darrel Robertson (1999), Dion Hibdon (2000), Randall Tharp (2013), Brad Knight (2015) and John Cox (2016), TITLE champions Rusty Salewske (2020) and Jimmy Washam (2021), along with former Pro Circuit Angler of the Year (AOY) winners David Walker (1999), Mark Rose (2018), Ron Nelson (2020) and Michael Neal (2021). Bass-fishing legend “The General” Larry Nixon also returns to the field for his 24th season on the Pro Circuit.

Competition kicks off on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Jan. 27-30, in Brookeland, Texas and culminates with the 2022 Tackle Warehouse TITLE, the Pro Circuit championship, on the St.
Lawrence River, Aug. 16-21, in Massena, New York. Each stop will be broadcast live on the Major League Fishing app, MyOutdoorTV (MOTV), and MajorLeagueFishing.com. The 2022 MLF Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit will air on the CBS Sports Network and the Sportsman Channel beginning in July 2022. The full field will compete on Days 1 & 2 of each regular-season event, with the top 50 pros based on cumulative weight from days 1 & 2 moving on to Day 3. Weights will be zeroed on Day 4, where the top 10 pros based on cumulative weight from the first three days will compete for the grand prize of up to $135,000, including the lucrative $35,000 Phoenix MLF Bonus for qualified anglers. important, is that it be the right kind of exercise.
Regular exercise has many health benefits for people with arthritis. It increases strength, flexibility, balance and posture. Exercise reduces joint pain, strengthens the muscles around your joints and can help you maintain bone strength and density. Not exercising weakens those supporting muscles, creating more stress on your joints. Besides decreased pain tolerance, weak muscles, stiff joints and poor balance, which are common to many forms of arthritis, can be made worse by inactivity. For those with arthritis, participating in joint-friendly physical activity can improve arthritis pain, function, mood and quality of life. Joint-friendly physical activities are low-impact, which means they put less stress on the body, reducing the risk of injury. Joint-friendly activities include walking, biking and swimming. Body awareness exercises, such as gentle forms of yoga or tai chi, can help improve balance, prevent falls, improve posture and coordination and promote relaxation. Routine activities such as mowing the lawn, raking leaves and walking the dog count as well. Any movement, no matter how small, can help. Stretching and range of motion exercises help maintain or improve the flexibility of your joints and nearby muscles. Strength exercises build muscle strength, provide stability to joints and improve the ability to perform daily tasks. It is important to stay as active as your health allows and change your activity level depending on your arthritis symptoms. Remember, some physical activity is better than none. Be sure to check with your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise regime.
