A letter from our Chamber President This should be my last message as the President of the Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce. For those of you that may not have heard, I retired from ILSA on July 2. I am enjoying retirement, my family, ranch, etc. I will stay involved with the Chamber for the foreseeable future, but will look forward to turning the gavel over to the next President. If you would like to serve on our nominations committee, please let us know.

The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce held its first board meeting in September since shutting down last March due to Covid. We voted in two new board members, Bryce Worsham and Jim Bivens. We are planning to have several events in the next few months: - Fall Holiday Market, Saturday, November 6 - Taste of Groesbeck. Saturday. December 4 - Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet, Thursday.

February 10 (doors will open at 6 p.m., dinner served at 6:30) - Spring Pedder’s Market, Saturday. April 23

Of course, all of these are subject to change and/ or cancellation should the situation change regarding Covid. Please check the Chamber website for any updates.

Not If, But When: Cryptocurrency is Real How many people own cryptocurrency in the U.S.?

In the last year, the number of Americans who own a cryptocurrency has jumped from 7.95% in 2018 and 14.4% in 2019 to 23.16% in 2021, an increase of 61% in two years, Do these people commonly use cryptocurrency for transactions?

Many of them want to, but finding local businesses to purchase from is not easy.

Why should I accept cryptocurrency when it’s not as popular as credit cards?

To keep your business on the cutting edge, it’s worth it to accept all safe forms of currency, including cryptocurrency, especially if the payment processor gives a guarantee to pay you in US Dollars with no fluctuation in value.

In the U.S. people are afraid of change. They’ll resist new things until there is no other option. But is it really easier to take no action at all? Do you want to wait until you’re left behind?

For every person doubting crypto’s potential, there’s another person who’s getting won over. This isn’t a sprint, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime shift. But if you want numbers to prove crypto’s trajectory, try these.

What Do Experts Have to Say? The financial industry has spoken and they’re not mincing words. According to a recent survey by Deloitt and Touche, nearly 80% of financial professionals think that digital assets will replace fiat in the next 5 – 10 years. To those in the loop, this isn’t surprising. But if you know someone who’s still resisting progress, it’s time to break the news to them. So, here are some of the major takeaways from the survey: 73% thought their business should adopt blockchain and digital assets, and would lose a competitive

advantage if they did not adopt the technology.

43% of those surveyed said that their business may eventually adopt cryptocurrencies as a payment option, and 45% would tokenize their assets.

18% of business owners already own crypto currency Soon enough, people will be asking themselves a different question. Instead of focusing on the why, they’ll be realizing the more important question….. why not?

What’s the reason to resist cryptocurrency acceptance in your business?

Recently, I read an article that detailed some of the objections that small business owners have about cryptocurrency. Seems like education is the main barrier.

But the primary arguments against accepting crypto were: • Lack of knowledge about the payment method • Not sure if they could figure out how to accept it • Doubting it would increase their sales • Worried about too much risk So, it sounds like most of these people don’t realize that there are companies who focus on processing crypto payments. It doesn’t need to be a guessing game!

And those same companies guarantee your business get paid $100 if their customer spent $100… no fluctuation in value between purchase and deposit.

To start off, it’s pointless to try to figure out the

www.groesbeckchamber.com ins and outs of cryptocurrency before you accept it as a payment method. You could google for weeks, and barely scratch the surface.

But the nice part about accepting crypto is that you don’t even need to know anything to get started. It’s not like merchants are cryptocurrency experts. They just have a desire to meet their customers where they’re at. A simple ipad or android tablet can open up that path to more sales to cryptocurrency customers.

Will all of your customers know how to pay with crypto? Absolutely not. But enough will, over time, to make it worth the effort.

At the end of the day, cryptocurrency users will know how to complete a transaction. And people who don’t use crypto might actually get the urge to find out more. This is the cycle that allows new technology to flourish.

Think about it like this.

Ecommerce was strange and new for many people just 2 years ago. Covid changed that.

With the chip on a credit card, people were wary. Would it really be safer to use? Yes! When contactless or tap to pay option first came out, some people were suspicious. Now every phone and card are able to be a contactless payment.

Remember when PIN numbers were the ultimate in security. Nowadays, most people probably don’t even remember their credit card PIN. And that’s the way things go. It’s just new and novel until it’s not.

One day you’re Blockbuster, flying high. And the next, you’re just an ounce of nostalgia for some 90s kids.

Either get on board or be prepared to be left in the dust.

Your competitors might not think twice about accepting cryptocurrency.

This question really has a simple answer. More people are using crypto every day. The numbers are obviously growing. If you accept credit cards, why wouldn’t you want to accept cryptocurrency.

Doesn’t it make sense to accept as many payment methods as possible?

Nothing to Lose!

As for the other objections, they not be founded in reality. The truth is it’s really easy to get started with accepting crypto. If you’re doubting it will increase your sales, forget about that concern. Nearly 80% of businesses accepting crypto are happy with the results! If your sales don’t go up, you’re still at square one. It’s not like accepting crypto is going to harm your business or even cost much to get started.

Positive results don’t come from nowhere. They come from a growth mindset. And cryptocurrency is not even a ‘risk.’ You should use a payment processor you know and trust in the community. If you’re not ready to add personal investment crypto to your portfolio yet, you don’t have to!

Your business can get paid in US Dollars direct to your bank account, just like credit cards do.

Mass adoption is inevitable. If you’re the person asking why cryptocurrency matters, you’re asking the wrong question. The question is ‘when’ do you need to begin… why not now.

Therefore you should speak to people outside of your social circle. Take a break from the echo-chamber that is social media. Embrace change and you might be rewarded.

Chamber of Commerce Structure and Organization Each chapter of a chamber is governed by a board of directors who advise the chapter on strategies and policies determined by the chapter's mission. The board manages day-to-day affairs and updates the chapter policies. Board members, also referred to as an executive council, are elected within each chapter. Most chapters have an acting president and CEO, for example. Members of the board are elected based on their leadership experience, business background, and ability to execute chapter goals.

In addition to a governing board of directors, a chapter will have at least one employee. Some chapters may have more than one employee and be structured like a business. Employees work to market the chapter, in overseeing memberships, and in tracking the chapter's finances.

In addition to the employees, a chapter has committees to focus on executing specific goals based on the chapter's mission — such as education, environment, or healthcare. Members of the chapter can volunteer for these committees to get more involved.

How a Chamber of Commerce Functions A chamber of commerce chapter is made up of a dues-based membership. Each chapter offers different levels of membership, along with unique volunteer opportunities and a dues structure.

80% of respondents in a Shapiro Group survey were more likely to purchase goods or services in the future from companies belonging to a chamber of commerce.

Each chapter is designated as a 501(c)(6) corporation under the federal tax law. This means a chapter is a nonprofit entity with the authority to represent its membership in matters of policy and debate (unlike charitable organizations that do not act on behalf of members).

Dues are required by each member to contribute to the overall operating costs. In addition to dues, a chamber can raise money to cover additional operating costs by holding fundraising activities and charging fees to chamber events. These costs help the chapter stay operational since multiple businesses rely on their local chamber for networking and resources.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE

A chapter can be found at the local, state, city, regional,

or national level. Some chapters are even associated with specific neighborhoods within a community. Still others are formed to represent a group of specific business interests. Examples of this include female business owners chapters or the National Black Chamber of Commerce.

Since each chapter has its own mission focused on economic vitality throughout a designated area, each can support different industries or initiatives. For example, some focus on economic development while others connect a specific community to local businesses. While each chamber acts independently, multiple chambers can join together to form a larger, collective group serving a similar interest. For instance, several county chapters can join together to form a larger regional chapter to pool together resources.

About 9 months ago Covid-19 deaths were approaching 600,000. Today we are at 714,503, we still have probably a year and a half of Pandemic left. Some folks think it will be around forever as an occasional illness.

Vaccines are helping a great deal. Moderna, the best in efficiency, holds down the spread 95%, Pfizer is at 80% and J & J 60%.

Moderna produces 2.5 times the antibodies as other vaccines. That is why the delay in boosters that were supposed to be given 8 months from the last of your 2 shots. Pfizer will be giving boosters at 6 months. J & J which was supposed to be one and done will give a booster which will bring protection to 93%. We are awaiting a time frame of the CDC and FDA still talking.

How long is natural immunity from having Covid? It looks like a year thus far. The CoronaVirus SARS 2003 gave a 2 year immunity.

90% of deaths recently have been the people unvaccinated. You can still have breakthroughs with the vaccines but it will hopefully keep you out of ICU, the hospital and cemetery.

If you do become ill and fit a certain prototype of it, pre existing problems, time frame there is an Antibody Infusion called Regeneron. A one time infusion you have to go to Waco to the center with your doctor’s orders. It will take a couple of hours.

Christmas at the Fort is the perfect annual event, which will be held December 1112, 2021 at Old Fort Parker Historic Site, 866 Park Road, Groesbeck, Texas 76642. Introduce your family and friends to early Texas history and purchase historic era reproductions for Christmas gifts. Visit with re-enactors and view artisans demonstrate glass blowing, blacksmithing, knife making, woodcarving, beading, weaving, and pioneer cooking. Food booths will be serving their traditional foods. There are a limited number of RV spaces for people wishing to spend the weekend and enjoy Christmas at the Fort. THE 2022 GROESBECK HERITAGE FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR MAY 26-29 On May 26-29, 2022 Groesbeck will hold its second annual Heritage Festival. The 2021 Heritage Festival celebrated the 150th anniversary of the founding of the town of Groesbeck in 1871.

Groesbeck was on the Houston and Texas Central Railway and was named for one of the railway directors, Abram Groesbeeck. Ft. Parker is located approximately six miles north of Groesbeck. The area was settled in 1835

by Elisha Anglin. The area has many farms and ranches.

Groesbeck has been the county seat of Limestone County since 1874. Famous natives include the actor Joe Don Baker.

During last year’s festival there was a carnival, a national ranch sorting competition, a Texas Rangers

display, a parade, a dog agility demonstration, a Texas Longhorn with the longest horns in the state, food and merchandise vendors, three bands that played outside the courthouse, riders from Ft. Hood in Killeen, a Memorial Day remembrance, food available from the American Legion and other local organizations, a Garden Club sale, an open house at The Groesbeck Journal, and the Limestone County Historical Museum was open for visitors. Several groups had informational booths as well.

The upcoming Heritage Festival promises to be a lot of fun for the entire family. We hope to have even more vendors, displays, and demonstrations for everyone’s enjoyment. Many donors and volunteers helped make 2021’s festival possible. But we need many more volunteers and donations to make the 2022 Heritage Festival happen!
