History comes alive
at the Stevens County Gas & Historical Museum Explore the familiar and the unknown during your visit to the Stevens County Gas and Historical Museum, at 905 S. Adams in Hugoton. The complex currently stretches over an entire city block, encompassing the main building and several auxiliary buildings as well as an enormous shop full of historical vehicles and signage. The Museum also features a walking path with plenty to look at along the way in the form of various industrial machines and farm implements. The evidence of Hugoton and Stevens County’s participation in the infancy of the gas industry is available for visitors to peruse both inside the Museum and throughout its grounds. Trinkets from the earliest days of the community adorn the walls and display cases within each building. Stop by the main building to get the lay of the land, then make your way through the jail, one-room schoolhouse, the church and the train depot. You can even go inside a fully-furnished house - one of Hugoton’s first houses! From salt shakers and genuine military uniforms to a dentist’s office and even a meteorite - there’s something for everyone at the Stevens County Gas and Historical Museum! They’re open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed Saturday and Sunday but reservations for tours by Curator Steve Lewis can be arranged for those days. With every part of my being I wanted to continue working but to my dismay, I was forced to retire from my dream job. That is when I started thinking about others and their ability to have their dream job. So many people have their passion but work other jobs to support themselves or their families. I wanted to show thanks for the chance I had, by helping others achieve their dream job. I want to allow each individual to see their gift is worth something. The JEWEL The boutique has artists, creators, etc that are local to the Hugoton area and beyond. The inventory ranges from charcuterie boards and coaster to wooden signs and door hangers, original water color, acrylic and charcoal art work to canvas photography, hand sewn hilarious gifts and coffee or cocoa bombs to organic bath balms, baby lotions, lip balms, shower steamers and more, Jewelry, cards, magnets, coffee mugs, wine glasses, hair products and tools, pillows, wall hangings, other art and more. The featured artists receive 100% of the profit for the sale of their items. It’s all focused around showing how truly valuable their gift is to others. The name… The building at 511 S. Main St. in Hugoton was at one time the Jewel Cafe. When my husband and I
renovated the building originally in 2006, we were able to see where the old cafe tables were bolted to the walls! With all the amazing stories about Bonnie working at the Jewel Cafe, we decided to have fun and add a hidden door between the store and salon as throw-back to prohibition…assuming Bonnie was already potentially up to no good when she ran the cafe. We thought there was no better way to honor the history of the building than by naming the store the Jewel. And the name fits on different levels. A nod to the original cafe of course but also as a description of the people who are included in it. The diamond in the rough, the artist that is out there but hasn’t been discovered just yet. And for me, the Jewel on Mane Hair Co…the thing that is helping me keep my dream alive. Helping people achieve a goal for themselves in a small way. With my current family situations evolving, I don’t know when the store will have regular hours. The building also houses Mane Hair Co. where Kristy Warnock works doing hair design, perms, waxing etc. Kristy also makes the Jewel accessible to clients and customers when possible.

You can also get a bag of ice. Mi Mi’s Sweet Treat Monday has fantastic homemade cinnamon rolls to go with that drink you just bought. Also Fridays is a perfect time for that parfait breakfast. Flavors include triple berry and double berry. They are all with vanilla greek yogurt and french vanilla almond granola.
