As Jeremy Weldon, our editor, mentioned in the Winter edition of Batesville and Beyond, spring would come and indeed it did.

I am taking a more active part in this magazine, as Jeremy focuses his attentions this Spring on hard hitting community news in the print edition of The Panolian, The Panolian website which gives us an opportunity to deliver news daily. I will be taking on the magazine for this edition, especially since much of this is focuses on Weddings and brides.

In this edition, we are excited to finally share Donna Traywicks’ story about honey bees that she began tracking last fall. Donna has been giving us updates all winter and doing research about the honey bees importance to feeding our planet. The bees have finally made their rounds from California, and parts north before arriving back in Panola County, Mississippi to do their important pollinating work.

Next, hearing about the special place that bakers have in Panola County, we held a contest for the “Prettiest Cakes in Panola County.” We had over 90 photos of the most delectable, creative cakes imaginable. It is a good thing it was a photo contest and we did not have to taste them all. Readers voted on their favorites in four categories, wedding cakes, bridal shower cakes, birthday cakes and cupcakes. The winners are presented here, and we dare you not to drool.

Special thanks to the talented bakers who shared their photos with us. We look forward to making this an annual feature.

Brides had a special challenge last year in having gatherings of any kind from their wedding to their showers due to the pandemic. As a right of passage, bridal teas and showers have been a big part of this community for decades and these brides would not be denied. Several brides share their stories of how these events took place and were a success. We also are so happy to have the wedding feature in the pages of Batesville and Beyond for Brides married in the past year. The Wedding edition is always a reader favorite, and a keepsake for the families.

Rounding out, we have photos from our Car Show and the Junior Auxiliary events, and style feature for shopping around Batesville. We hope you enjoy this edition of Batesville and Beyond.

Homeward Bound Honey Bees in Batesville

From cosmetics, to cough syrup, to cereal to a good hot buttered biscuit, honey is the only commodity that is used by man which is produced by an insect.

Consequently, the honey bee is the only insect that produces food for man.

Bees were in North America before the colonist brought them over in 1622, but the great advantage was that they pollinated the seeds and saplings that the immigrants brought with them.

As time passed on people began to realize the benefits of the honey and the honeycomb and they began to commercialize both.

During the centuries, bees up north were having a hard time surviving the -20 to -30 degree weather.

More and more bee keepers were finding places in the South to winter their hives.

Patterson made arrangements for Hefeldp and partners Jerry Fisher and Sean Fickle to “farm out” their hives to responsible land owners in Panola County.

on a trailer truck in November. Local mild winters afforded the bees plenty to feed on.

In February, many of the hives are loaded up again and taken to California to pollinate the almond trees.

Hofeldp, Fisher, and Fickle supervised the move back to Panola County at the end of March.

HONEY FACTS  According to Farm Bureau magazine the total value of Mississippi honey production per years is $1.88 million. 19,000 is the number of honey producing colonies in Mississippi in 2016.  In cooking, for every 1 cup of sugar substitute ½ to 2/3 cup of honey.  In 1980 the honey bees was designated the state insect.

the hives and work a producing a queen for each new hive. The bee hives left Panola County for South Dakota around April 10.

The honey is extracted in South Dakota and marketing under the name “Sue Bee”. There are products such as honey barbecue sauce, honey spread, among others.

While staying in the Mt Olivet community they had the opportunity to pollinate a nearby peak orchard and several farms that grow and sell vegetables at local farmers market.

Bees like both white and red top clover, dogwood trees and soybean fields. Bees are attracted to blue, purple, white and yellow flowers. Bees also like the flower allium, crocus, hyacinths, peonies, tulips as well as many annuals.

Mississippi’s short winter make the state the perfect candidate for harboring honey bees.

Prettiest Cakes in Panola County Contest When we asked bakers in Panola County to submit their prettiest cakes in four different categories, they did! We had 118 cakes entered in the contest and readers voted on their favorites.

Houston said she bakes as a hobby only on weekends, as she has a full time job during the week. “My autistic son pushed me to do this when I baked him a birthday cake in 2009 and it took off from there” said Houston. I am self-taught and all recipes are from scratch.”

Tigers Track Coach

The old saying, “home is where the heart is” is nothing but the truth for South Panola head track and field coach Montez Griffin. A 2010 graduate of South Panola, Griffin played football and was a member of the track team. He competed in 200 and 400 meter races and was a member of the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.

Griffin’s athletic career continued on the collegiate level at Ole Miss where he ran outdoor track and was a member of the 2014 SEC indoor track team during his senior season.

After graduating from Ole Miss, Griffin decided he wanted to return home to Batesville where it all began to build a track program. “It was always a dream or aspiration of mine to come back and once I kind of

knew what I was doing and go about things, I just wanted to give back to the community,” said Griffin.

Back when South Panola football was the center of attention statewide, the school’s track program was almost non-existent. While there were plenty of athletes to go around, track was pretty much an afterthought.

“Football was king back during my high school days, but we had some people who ran track who were pretty good. Morry Turner was on the track team and is now an assistant coach at Kansas Community College. He is the coach-of-the-year for that region.

“We had athletes here, just people didn’t know their names simply because they didn’t play football,”

said Griffin.

Griffin admitted that while most of his training on the track was self-taught, he owes a lot of gratitude to one former coach in particular.

“Hank Farrish was our coach my first two years and then after that we were basically coached ourselves. We had adult coaching supervision, but we were out here running on our own, said Griffin.

“But I owe a lot to Coach Farrish, he was my mentor and a person that helped me get into coaching and has been a big inspiration to me,” said Griffin.

While still at Ole Miss in 2013, Griffin returned to South Panola on a volunteer basis and coached the Lady Tiger 4x100 relay team that advanced to the state finals. That same year, the Tiger boys produced a standout hurdler, Chris Felix, who went on to have success on the track team at Jackson State University.

Griffin is currently in his third year as head coach on Tiger Drive after taking over the reins from former coach Matt Moch who is now the head football coach at North Pike High School in Summit, Mississippi.

“Coming back to Batesville and coaching here at South Panola means a lot, basically its homegrown. It’s more of a pride thing.

When I was here, we ended every practice by saying ‘State, State, Tiger Pride’ and that meant having pride in your program.”

“When I was at Ole Miss, we were taught to not only run for what name is on the front of your jersey, but your running for your family and your friends back home and your community. That’s something we are trying to instill into the kids today. They have family that went to school and might have played sports that you’re representing. But it really is a dream come true to be back here,” said Griffin.

Griffin admits it was difficult to find kids who wanted to come out for track, especially cross county at the beginning and can remember walking the hallways inviting students to tryout. “There was one young lady in particular named Tyler Hamby who also plays softball I asked to run cross country. She was a little reluctant at first, but started running and was really good, so yeah it took me a little recruiting to get kids to come out and run track,” said Griffin.

Success is already beginning to show in the program as the Lady Tigers captured the first district championship since 2002 and are currently preparing for the Regional 6A meet.

For Coach Montez’s fourth season, he is looking forward to the new outdoor track that is being created at South Panola. This professional track will give the coach a better place to train and develop his young track team and build the success of the South Panola track program for years to come.

Confessions of a Four-leaf Clover Hunter

Yes, I am a lifelong four-leaf clover hunter. It’s an addiction. I cannot pass a clover patch without looking down and scanning for the small chance of finding a four-leaf clover.

It is a skill I learned in the lazy spring days as a child when springtime clover patches would appear in lawns in our neighborhood. Childhood friends and I would plop down near the edge of large clover patches and compete to see who could find a fourleaf clover. It was a game of patience, with very little reward of searching through every clover. The cool green of the clover patch was welcome on a warm day.

After a while, the clover hunting game would get tiresome, as there were never many four-leaf clovers to be found. We would move on to something else, like making a chain necklace from

the white and purple tipped clover flowers. We would wear them around our necks, unaware that it made us much more attractive to the bees always lurking around those clover patches. But I digress.

Fast forward, and for some reason the very rare thrill of finding a four-leaf clover reinforced a habit and being able to spot a four-leaf clover that others would miss.

It is not that I am looking for luck, as it is a game.

I do feel lucky when I find one, but I do not feel like it has anything to do with being lucky or a sign of anything else that will happen. It is just finding a needle in a haystack. The joy is in the finding itself.

Every spring, I always hope at least one neighbor doesn’t believe in killing weeds. Clover grows fast in the spring, and will stand out over the brown Bermuda grass that is slower to grow. Maybe also

angles. Don’t count the leaves first. Look for the pattern which stands out at right angles for a four-leaf clover.

the deep green is a welcome sight after the long winter of browns and grays.

I scan quickly to see if there is any small chance that I will spot one with four leaves instead of three. Oh, the common clover can be trick for the four-leaf clover hunter. Some threeleaf clovers get tangled together to look like one great big sixleaf clover. It’s a ploy, and works to make me reach down, and discover, it is just two three-leaf.

I can go months and months scanning every patch in parking lot medians, side yards and not find a single four-leafed one.

There are only threes, threes, threes. Maybe the fours are completely gone! Just something in my imagination.

Then, when I have half given up the hope of finding one, a tiny four-leaf suddenly catches my eye. Jackpot! It is a thrill to find. I pluck it from the ground, and triumphantly hold it carefully until I can show it to my husband. Then I press it in a book, as my four-leaf green trophy. There it stays, where past treasures are pressed between the pages.

Sometimes the same patch will again produce the rare variant four-leaf clover. If that lucky clover patch is on my evening walk with the dog, evening, after evening, the dog is wondering why we keep stopping to look down at the same spot. She is ready to keep on moving. Although, she does enjoy nibbling on a bit of tender grass now and then. For a few days, there could be a more. Sometimes that patch will yield four or five, before it stops. For no good reason, it goes back to being just an average normal three-leaf clover patch. Special no more.

This Spring, for whatever reason, I have found more fourleaf clovers than usual. I found a five-leaf on St. Patrick’s Day. A few days later I found four four-leaf clovers in the same patch. The next day, excited to pass that patch again, I found 12 four-leaf clovers. All were found in less than 2 minutes. It does not take long if they are there. Twelve is the most I have ever found at one time. Then one more from this patch, and then nothing.

The clover spoiler was an outside force, the lawn mower. Yes, my neighbor decided it was finally time to chop down the weeds, clover, and other wild grass into one mottled same height “lawn”. The clover patch will not recover this year, as Bermuda takes over growing faster as the days warm up. The Spring clover is gone for the season in that spot.

But next year when the clover patch appears again, you bet it will be the first place I look.

Q&A With Miss Northeast Mississippi, Caroline Parnell

Caroline Parnell, a Batesville resident and student at the University of Mississippi, has found her passion for literacy through the Miss Mississippi and Miss America Organizations. Born in Sevierville, Tennessee, Caroline and her family relocated to Batesville when she was twelve years old for her dad, Dr. Don Parnell, Jr., to work at the hospital now known as Panola Medical Center. By the time she graduated from North Delta, she had been a member of fourteen different school clubs, sports, and organizations. Notable among these, she was a Hall of Fame graduate, instrumental in forming the North Delta Cross Country team, and a State Champion in

PANOLA LIVING the High Jump. Currently, Caroline is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi where she is an active member of the student body and Greek life.

When Caroline was seventeen and a senior at North Delta, she became interested in competing for the Miss Mississippi Organization. Through the help of North Delta and University of Mississippi graduate, Charley Ann Nix, the 2019 1st runner up to Miss Mississippi, Caroline was able to win her first local preliminary title of Miss Modern South. This was her ticket to the Miss Mississippi stage in Vicksburg, Mississippi. When she won her first title, she took up her Social Impact Initiative of “Let Your Imagination Soar, Read More”, where she advocates for the literacy of children in Mississippi. Since then, Caroline has spent the last three years promoting and learning about literacy programs for the state of Mississippi. Currently, Caroline holds the

title of Miss Northeast Mississippi.

What led you to choose literacy as your Social Impact Initiative?

“Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a deep love and appreciation for reading.

Sharing my birthplace with the one and only Dolly Parton, I was fortunate to be a participant in her program, Imagination Library, which began in Sevier County and is now available worldwide. This program gifts children’s books each month from birth until the age of five. I was fortunate to receive sixty books from birth to kindergarten, not counting the ones that my older brother and younger sister received. Even at a young age, my siblings got excited for the books that would arrive in the mailbox. We knew that we were about to experience something thrilling.

love of reading I formed in my early childhood. Reading was demonstrated as more of a choice not a chore. Through my platform “Let Your Imagination Soar, Read More”, I strive to help all children understand that reading can be for enjoyment instead of viewing it as mundane. A goal I am working towards is to see Imagination Library expand across more Mississippi counties. It is currently in 18 of the 82 Mississippi counties. By fostering a love for reading in today’s youth, we can improve literacy rates and help blaze a trail for students’ future successes.”

Why is “Let Your Imagination Soar, Read More” important to Mississippi?

“Instilling the importance of reading at an early age can have a tremendous effect on an individual’s perception of reading. The early foundations of reading are fundamental in creating what is essentially a domino effect. This effect has the potential to propel a student’s academic career towards success. In Mississippi, reading proficiency at the 4th grade level in 2017 was 27%.

However, recent data shows an upward trend in Mississippi’s reading testing scores at the fourth-grade level. Yet these scores still fall below the national average for the 8th grade. The effect of this is reflected in the high school dropout rate of 9.7%. In July 2019, Mississippi was ranked 47th for Reading Test scores and 44th for median ACT scores and is continually ranked at the bottom when it comes to foundational literacy in the United States. While educational and governmental programs are vital, they do not replace the importance and impact of reading in the home.”

What would you say to someone who says pageants are just about appearance?

“During my time in the Miss Mississippi Organization, I have learned an extraordinary amount about myself. I have learned that I can strive to better myself daily. I have been blessed to learn how to improve my confidence as a public speaker and have had more interview practice than I ever thought possible. Even more so, the Miss America Organization is one of the largest scholarship providers for women in the world. In my opinion though, one of the best things about being involved in this organization is that the organization allows women to create a platform to advocate for on a matter about which they are passionate. I never would have had the voice I have today without Miss Mississippi.”

Do you have any upcoming events?

“Yes! I will be having a book give away at the Batesville Springfest on Saturday May 15th. I would love to see everyone there! I am also planning on being at the Batesville Farmer’s Market on June 2nd to give away more books, while supporting Batesville’s small business owners. Also, I am excited to be competing for Miss Mississippi in Vicksburg in June. Preliminary nights are June 23rd, 24th, and 25th and finals night will be June 26th. Individual night tickets will be going on sale starting May 10th, for anyone that is interested in coming to Vicksburg to watch the competition!”

2020 Bridal Showers in Batesville

For southerners, bridal showers as a tradition have always been important, and in Batesville they are part of the fabric of the community. A bridal shower – or multiple bridal showers lead up to the actual big day. A celebration for the bride-to-be with her family, many friends and even friends of friends.

Everyone is invited to the party. People fly in just for the shower from out of town, and guests feel special to be invited guests.

Remembrances of past showers abound in Batesville. Lisa at Plaza Jewelers credits the formal ribbon for who gave place settings of

china, flat wear as an invention by the hosts of her shower. Another person tells the story of a lost in the mail shower invitation for one of her friends, but no worries. A last-minute phone call assured the guest that their invitation was in the mail. The guest did not mind. She was going to crash the shower anyway and already had a gift bought.

For brides this past year, they had the added concern of Covid, and how to make the shower safe to attend. We asked some 2020 brides how they adapted and what they remember about their bridal showers from last year.

Amelia Bailey Question: When was your shower in 2020 and how was it different due to Covid and where was it held?

Answer: My shower was on June 28, 2020 and was held at Pope Baptist Church. It was different due to Covid because we had to schedule it after we had

actually gotten married. The gathering restrictions were still in place before our wedding on June 6th, and I did not want to have a drive-by shower. I had always envisioned having a traditional celebration.

Question: How many people attended?

Answer: Approximately fifty people were in

attendance.

Question: Who were the hosts for your shower, and what kind of preparations did that they make?

Answer: My hosts for my shower were women from Pope Baptist and others from the community.

They were so patient with scheduling a date due to not being sure about restrictions or Covid guidelines.

They sent out invitations, picked up my gifts from local establishments where I was registered, decorated the fellowship hall, and displayed all of my gifts beautifully. They also ordered several different cakes, fruit, and made punch and coffee for my shower.

Question: Did you register at any local Batesville retail establishment?

Answer: I registered at Plaza Jewelers, Talk of the Town, and The Candle Shoppe.

Question: What is the most memorable moment of your bridal shower that you will always treasure?

Answer: The greatest thing I took away from my bridal shower was simply being able to have a shower with the ones I love at all. For my 2020 wedding, we had to arrange everything so meticulously due to Covid and some things were not able to happen as I initially planned. The women in charge of my shower did everything in their power to make my dream of having a traditional, in-person gathering come true. I am so grateful for them, and they were all presented small vases of zinnias out of our gratitude!

Jordan Potts Question: When was your shower in 2020 and how was it different due to COVID and where was it held?

Answer: To avoid having a large bridal shower gathering, I had four smaller showers. There were two showers held in Olive Branch, Kyle’s hometown, and two showers held in Batesville, my hometown. Three of the showers were a small gathering with the option of driving by/dropping off and one fully “drive-by” shower. These showers were held on October 24th, November 7th, November 29th, and December 5th.

Question: How many people attended?

Answer: At each of these showers, the average attendance was around ten people, not including the hostesses.

Question: Who were the hosts for your shower, and what kind of preparations did they make?

Answer: My “drive- by” shower at First Baptist Church was hosted by Ramona Beardain, Patricia Benson, Bonnie Burkes, Denise Coy, Kelli Dickins, Jennifer Howell, Teresa Lloyd, Brandy Moss, Cindy Pierce, Amy Richey, Jill Roberts, Joyce Snyder, Melanie Whitten, and Debbie Williams.

They made COVID safe cupcakes and treats individually wrapped to give to the guests and set up a drive-by area for me to sit at outside and 22 Batesville & Beyond

meet guests that drove through. My other shower in Batesville was hosted by Kellie Potts, Tresah Harden, Cortney Harden, Susan Hood, Morgan Neese, Lindsey Simmerman, Cammie Simmerman, Rachel Pickett, and Grayson Pickett.

They made food preparations and provided beautiful decor. The showers in Olive Branch were hosted by Janie Shearin, Becky Chunn, Carlotta Gibson, Diane Brown, Tara Drewry, Stephanie Shearin, Jane Wall, Barabara Harris, Barbara May, and Mary Katherine Greshem. At these showers, hostesses prepared food, decorated, and observed COVID precautions by taking temperatures at the door.

Question: Did you register at any local Batesville establishment?

Answer: Yes! I registered locally at Talk of the Town and The Candle Shoppe.

Question: What is the most memorable moment of your bridal shower that you will always treasure?

Answer: The most memorable part of each of these showers was the overwhelming amount of love and support felt during them, especially in the middle of a pandemic. It was such a sweet time in my life I’ll always treasure that time and be forever grateful for those who showered us with love and support.

Jordan Erica Potts and Samuel Kyle Brassell were wed at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Batesville. First Baptist Church of Batesville is very special to the couple as this is where they first met and where their engagement was located. Dr. Sam Brassell Jr., father of the groom, officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van Potts of Batesville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Jason Chrestman and the late Mrs. Dessie Chrestman of Batesville, and Ms. Sue Stroup of Batesville and the late Mr. Elvis Potts. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Sam Brassell Jr. of Olive Branch. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Goodman of Wetumpka, Alabama, and Mrs. Gay Brassell and the late Mr. Sam Brassell Sr. of Wetumpka.

Those standing with the bride included Lindsey Simmerman as Maid of Honor and Cortney Harden as Matron of Honor.

Bridesmaids were Morgan Neese of Batesville, Grayson Pickett of Pope, Skylyn Irby of Batesville, Jessica Reeder of Jackson, Chantryce Morris of Batesville, Reiss Farris of Batesville, and Amy Richey of Batesville. The flower girl was Mary Evelyn Richey, daughter of Amy and Jeremy Richey. Mr. and Mrs. Brett Gammill of Batesville were Honorary Parents of the Bride.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a beautiful dress and tiered veil from Low’s Bridal and Formal of Brinkley, Arkansas. The bride and bridesmaids carried beautiful bouquets of white roses designed and made by the mother of the groom, Mrs. Cindy Brassell. The bridesmaids wore shimmering dresses of rose gold, navy, and gray colors. These dresses were hand-picked individually by each bridesmaid to bring their

personalities to light in the beautiful designs. Kelli Rae of Accents Hair/Nail Studio attended the bride and bridal party for hair and makeup.

Philip Brassell of Jackson, served the groom as the Best Man. Groomsmen included Jeremy Richey of Batesville, Matthew Alford of Clinton, Josh Thweatt of Oxford, James Hudgins of Oxford, Avery Ruth of Clinton, and Kameron Morgan of Oxford. The groom and groomsmen wore suits from Men’s Wearhouse.

Mathis Roberts, the son of Brent and Candie Roberts of Batesville, served as ring bearer. Conner Richey, son of Jeremy and Amy Richey, and Miles Roberts, son of Brent and Candie Roberts, served as program attendants.

Jill Roberts of Batesville was the wedding coordinator. Invitations and wedding programs were supplied from Magnet Street. Ashlea Scola of AMPV provided photography, and Dalton Scola of AMPV provided videography for the special day.

Following the ceremony, a reception was hosted at First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center.

Family and friends gathered to enjoy cake and refreshments in celebration of the newly wedded couple. Catering was provided by Carlotta Hickman Gibson, and cakes were provided by Tresah Chrestman Harden. At 5:30 p.m., family and friends gathered outside to send-off the couple following the celebration. The couple drove away in a white 1954 Ford Victoria that belonged to the bride’s late grandfather, Mr. Elvis Potts. The newly wedded Brassells traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for their honeymoon. The couple now resides in Birmingham, Alabama, where Kyle serves as a Youth Minister at Indian Springs First Baptist Church, and Jordan attends the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Amelia Belle Bailey of Pope and Joshua Ervin Byers of Olive Branch united in marriage on June 6, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. at Pope Baptist Church in Pope, Mississippi with Dr. Gary Berry officiating. Ms. Beth Carver of Pope was the wedding day director.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Bailey of Pope. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eugene Bailey of Tillatoba, Mr. Corley Thompson of Scobey, and the late Ms. Peggy Thompson of Pope.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Byers of Olive Branch. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Snipes of Olive Branch and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Byers of Ingrams Mill.

The bride’s bouquet was a hand-tied arrangement of nikko blue and pink panicle hydrangeas, pink peonies, white veronicas, Queen Anne’s lace, zinnias, baby’s breath, pink and white roses, lemon leaf, and white poms. Several of the flowers came from the garden of the mother of the bride, Mrs. Margo Bailey. The bouquet was wrapped in burlap and lace ribbon, adorned with a picture pendant of the bride and her late grandmother, Ms. Peggy Thompson. Her bouquet and other flower arrangements were created by Mrs. Debbie Wigley of Batesville.

Bridesmaids carried similar bouquets that contrasted beautifully with their dusty rose dresses. The groom and groomsmen wore boutonnieres made from baby’s breath and white roses.

Mason’s Printing of Batesville created the elegant wedding day programs and Porch Swing Films, LLC of Kosciusko was the wedding day videographer. Mr. and Mrs. Bubba Karr of Pope and Mr. and Mrs. Jason Robertson of Batesville, friends of the bride’s family, assisted with the decorations.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant gown of ivory with a lace overlay and a cathedral length train.

The open back was adorned with fabric buttons. The Symphony of Venus wedding gown was from Low’s Bridal Collection. Mrs. Martha Hubbard of Pope altered 28 Batesville & Beyond

the dress and added pearl beads and a rhinestone belt to the customized wedding gown. Mrs. Alexis Anderson of Batesville was the wedding day hair and makeup artist.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was her sister, Annah Bailey, of Pope. Bridesmaids were Haley Payne of Plymouth, Minnesota and Christy Kains of Oxford.

Serving as the flower girl was Reeves Drumheller of Courtland.

Tommy Byers, father of the groom, served as the best man. Groomsmen were Aaron Payne of Byhalia and Jason Rodgers of Olive Branch. Carson Stewart of Batesville served as the ring bearer. Ushers were Tim Goss of Batesville, Ryan Moss of Batesville, Kyle DeVazier of Batesville, and Tyler Allen of Pope.

Program Attendants were Kelsie Fisher of Starkville and Anna Katherine Baker of Batesville. Guest Book attendant was Mrs. Andrea Slater, sister of the groom.

A rendition of “Be Thou My Vision” was played in memory of loved ones before the ceremony. The wedding party entered with the song “Mrs. Darcy” by Dario Marianelli from the motion picture Pride and Prejudice. The couple asked the congregation to pray with them after the candle lighting ceremony while the song “I Get to Love You” by Ruelle was played. The bride and groom read their handwritten vows to each other before exchanging the rings, and Mrs. Diane Hendrix of Pope shared scripture.

The congregation sang “Victory in Jesus” before the couple was announced. Following the ceremony, “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley was played for the recessional.

The reception was hosted by the bride’s parents, Jeff and Margo Bailey, at Pope Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Reception food was catered by Ollie Rose Catering

The couple resides in Pope. Amelia teaches music at Batesville Elementary School, and Joshua works for the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Northwest Mississippi as a Soil Conservationist.

Teylar Brooke Patton and Tevin Tyrell Bobo were united in holy matrimony at 1 o’clock in the afternoon of August 16, 2020 at New Growth In Christ Empowerment Church in Hernando, Ms. The intimate ceremony was officiated by Rev. Alphonso Parker.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Sanford of Courtland and the late Thedrick Patton. Her grandparents are Ms. Cecil Mae McGhee of Batesville and Annie and Robert Gross of Pope.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tyrone Bobo of Arkabutla.

His grandparents are Earline Bobo of Coldwater and Ethel Johnson and the late Leroy Johnson of Coldwater.

During this intimate quarantine ceremony, the bride was escorted down the aisle by her stepfather to the tune of “As” by Anthony Hamilton and Marsha Ambrosius. She wore an eloquent, off-theshoulder, ivory white gown with a beautiful and unique singular ruffle running down the center.

This stunning attire was complimented with a dazzling pair of diamond earrings and a diamond necklace, both gifted to her by her mother. The bride carried a bouquet of

vibrant red Rosenfield peonies that featured a small, unique keepsake picture of the bride’s late father---all designed and gifted to her by Kelsey Baker.

The ceremony was very intimate and romantic.

Though there were factors limiting the capacity of the venue, the ceremony was filled with joy and love.

The ceremony reflected the bride and groom’s deep emotional connection to each other and their sacred relationship with God. Their intimate vows radiated their love and respect for family values.

Such an elegant ceremony was perfect for a pair whose love was written in the stars.

After the ceremony, the couple joined their families at the home of the groom’s aunt for an outdoor celebration. The couple was able to dance the night away and enjoy their families despite the mandates that were put into place due to covid.

The couple have made their home in Courtland, Ms where Teylar is a Sheriff’s Deputy for Panola Co. Sheriff’s office and Tevin is a certified personal trainer. The couple welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Teighan Tyrell, this past February.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nolan West of Sardis. His grandparents are Mrs. Grace West and the late Hal West of Sardis and Mrs. Georgia Evans and the late Billy Evans of Como. Mrs. Georgia now resides in Batesville.

The bride was escorted by her father in a beautiful embellished, candle light lace with a sweetheart neckline and sleeves that fall off the shoulders with a long cathedral train. She knew it was made for her the moment she tried it on.

Attending the bride as Matrons of Honor were Julianna Guckert and Hastings Neal.

Bridesmaids included Delaney Miller, Marley Gant, Caleigh Gant, Meri Maci Autrey, Tabitha West, Kayla Dunlap, Madelyn Lawrence, Callie McRight, Anna Sloan Clayton, Kayleigh Mitchell, Laney Shemwell, Erin Snider, Laura Beth Parker and Emily Wells.

The flower girls were Elyse & Audrey West, nieces of the bride and groom, Ruth Sawyer Hallmark, Georgia Petit, Anniston Nickle, Louise Burke and Leah Klytta.

The ring bearers were Sawyer Moore, Rhett Nickle, Jensen and Landry Wells and Harper Carson.

The ceremony was a long awaited one as the Bride and Groom had it postponed once already due to the pandemic. It was an elegant and beautiful ceremony.

Soloist, Suzie Van Dyke did a wonderful job with the music along with Shelby Grace Boone. The day was captured perfectly by photographer and Aunt of the Bride, Lori Anderson.

After the wedding, a reception was hosted by the Bride’s family at the Panola Country Club in Batesville.

The bride and groom celebrated with dinner and dancing with their friends and families.

The band, The Groove Factor, put on a wonderful performance that had most of the bridal party, guests and the bride and groom jumping in the pool by the end of the night. Let’s just say it was a hot and humid July night!

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents honored the couple with a rehearsal dinner at Chickasaw Lodge in Sardis. The ladies of the Heflin House in Sardis prepared a wonderful meal.

The couple are at home in Sardis, Miss. Where Claire is in sales at Dunlap & Kyle in Batesville and Hunter works on the family farm.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Gray of Batesville.

His grandparents are the late Ms. Mary Ann Wilson, the late Mr. Jack Wilson, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gray.

Escorted by her father and her grandfather, the bride wore a Crisp Mikado strappy- ballgown, featuring an illusion bow at the back and a rhinestone belt around the waist.

The dress was complimented with a cathedral-length veil featuring a sparkled floral border. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses wrapped with lace from her mother’s wedding dress.

Attending the bride as maids of honor were MaryAlden Sullivant and Jayni Claire Linder. Bridesmaids included Allison Heppner, Anna Lloyd, Charley Ann Nix, Ginger Stephens, and Jenny White. The junior bridesmaids were Rylee Bright, Alaina Brooke Masterson, and Riley Sullivant.

Haven Hardenburgh and Annie Sullivant served as flower girls.

The bridesmaids wore steel-blue off the shoulder gowns with crepe bodices featuring trapunto satin sashes and matte charmeuse skirts.

Ricky Gray, father of the groom, served as best man.

Groomsmen included Addison Andrews, Josh Cobb, Reed Davis, Peyton Douglas, Kent Hill, Tyler Mize, John Jeffrey Nelson, Zach Parisi, Hunter Robison, and Blake Sullivant.

The couple recited their vows surrounded by beautifully lit Christmas trees. Mrs. Jill Roberts directed the wedding.

Following the ceremony, a reception was hosted by the parents of the bride at the Wilbourn Building. The bride and groom were chauffeured to the reception by Terry Williams in a 1957 Blue Chevy. Friends and family of the newlyweds enjoyed dinner catered by Simply Sullivants and danced to the music of the Tatum Shappley Band. The evening ended with guest’s giving the couple a sparkler sendoff. Due to the circumstances surrounding the pandemic, the couple has postponed their honeymoon to Cancun until August.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner for the couple and their wedding party at the Wilbourn Building.

The couple is at home in Batesville, MS, where Maddie is a Registered Dental Hygienist at Lakewood Dental, and Cody is employed at his family’s business Batesville Overhead Door.

Makes 2 cups

In a large bowl, combine oil,
