Azle and Springtown both have museums that show off the area’s rich history dating back to the days of the Native Americans. Reno offers rolling pastures and a rural setting, Lakeside has all the waterfront you could want between Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth, and Poolville is a secluded gem. The city parks offer walking trails, skate ramps, beaches and more. Azle and Springtown both have state-recognized school districts with outstanding athletic programs.

sTing fling The Sting Fling festival is an all-day event held on the second Saturday in September. Sting Fling boasts many festivities such as the 1K Family Color Run, a parade, wiener dog races, car show, petting zoo, and live entertainment. Food and other vendors will be located all along Main St., 404 W. Main St., in Central Park, and at the Azle Memorial Library. CHrisTMas on Main sT. The Christmas on Main St. event is held at 404 W. Main St. and the Azle Historical Museum on the first Saturday in December. It’s hosted by the Azle Chamber of Commerce with assistance from several other community organizations. The festivities consist of photos with Santa, tree lighting, live entertainment, a car show, and children’s events. MusiC in THe Park Free music every Friday night during May and June tempts hundreds. Concerts are held at the amphitheater in Central Park, 263 West Main Street, next to the library, offering a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to gather and listen to an enjoyable evening of music and entertainment. folloW THe flag Follow The Flag is hosted by the Azle Ministerial Alliance on July 4 in Central Park. The event consists of Christian music, food and drinks, and family friendly entertainment. Follow The Flag is free to the public and concludes with an amazing fireworks show. 4

City Parks asH Creek Park This 31-acre park is located at 605 SE Parkway, the Hwy. 199 access road. This park features an 18-hole disc golf course that attracts players from the DFW area and beyond. Additionally you will find a soccer field, baseball practice field, basketball court, two volleyball courts, two playground areas, a pavilion and picnic areas. CenTral Park Located at 263 West Main Street, this 28-acre park offers volleyball courts, basketball courts, a pickle ball court, a covered playground, a skate park, walking trails, pavilion, picnic tables, and an amphitheater. The park hosts community events such as Music in the Park and Follow the Flag each summer. Melanie Park A small, 3-acre park located at 122 N. Melanie Drive offers a ball field, playground and picnic area.

Azle Area Chamber supports local businesses The Azle Area Chamber of Commerce supports all local business owners with services and events to supply them with the tools they need to be successful. Executive Director Shelia Pippins and the Board of Directors work hard to offer numerous networking opportunities through monthly luncheons, business after-hours mixers, and annual fundraiser events which allow members to socialize and talk business in a more casual setting. Annual events include the awards banquet and annual meeting in February, a clay shoot competition each spring, a golf tournament, Small Business Saturday, and Christmas on Main Street in December. The chamber allows members to in-
crease their visibility by sponsoring these well-planned community events, serving on specialized committees, sharing posts on social media, and allowing businesses to post information at the chamber office. In addition to the numerous networking functions, the chamber is dedicated to building on the success of its main event: Azle’s annual Sting Fling Festival. “There is nothing we enjoy more than providing a great festival to the residents of this community,” said Pippins. After a year off due to COVID-19, the next festival is set for the second Saturday in September 2021.

The event is kicked off with a 1K Family Fun Color Fling, followed by a parade on Main Street. Classic cars fill the 404 Main Place parking lot for the annual car show, and the annual Wiener Dog Derby and cornhole tournaments are held in Central Park. Sting Fling attendees enjoy live entertainment, delicious food and beverages from local vendors, boutique and handmade crafts vendors, and many familyfriendly activities along Main Street. eagle Mountain Lake Eagle Mountain Lake spans across 8,694 acres with Azle sitting just on the edge. The lake is available for recreational uses such as fishing, skiing, boating, and relaxation. There are several parks bordering Eagle Mountain Lake. The City of Azle owns Shady Grove Park that features a free public beach and swimming area with picnic tables, fishing dock, and a boat ramp with trailer parking for public use. Twin Points Park opened in 2016 and is located on the south end of Eagle Mountain Lake. For an entry fee by the carload, you’ll enjoy a sandy beach area, with volleyball and covered picnic pavilions. Twin Points also offers boat ramps and docks, plus individual boat slips for picking up passengers. The swim beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and the boat ramp open year round. Eagle Mountain Park is located on the east side of the lake and offers numerous hiking trails with captivating views of the lake.

Azle Historical Museum Two stories filled with memorabilia and artifacts await you in the lovely rock building that houses the Azle Historical Museum located at 124 West Main Street. Admission is always free, and the museum is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday from the beginning of March until the first week in December, The building itself was built in 1936 and has housed a general store, a speech therapy studio, a barber shop, and a beauty salon. It was the first home of the electric service provider that became Tri-County Electric Cooperative, and was also the home of the Azle Women’s Club. Until 1976, the Azle Public Library was housed in the building. When the library moved, the newly-formed Azle Historical Society acquired the location to operate as a museum, and the rest, as they say, is history. Cory Aberl is the Regional Director of the North Texas Region of Modern Woodmen. Cory grew up in Montgomery, Texas, a small town just north of Houston, but now calls Parker County home. Cory likes to stay active and loves to be on the water wake surfing with his wife and three boys, and in the winter months you bet he will be out deer hunting!
Tyler Larson is the Managing Partner for the North Texas Region. Tyler wasn’t born and raised in Texas but got here as soon as he could. Tyler resides in Boyd and enjoys team roping and rodeos. He is a member of Texas Cowboys Against Cancer.
Mandy Nichols is an Administrative Assistant and Springtown native. Mandy is very active in the community and her church. She enjoys a good DIY project, and you can usually find her in her free time watching her kids play sports or refinishing furniture.
Alisa McChristian is the Senior Administrative Assistant for North Texas. Alisa grew up in the small town of Hutto (yes, the Hutto Hippos) just north of Austin. Alisa is active with The WARM Place, and sits on the board for Communities in Schools – Greater Tarrant County.
Jennifer Smith is a Financial Representative for Modern Woodmen. She was born and raised in Springtown. She enjoys watching her kids play sports and is a member of the Optimist Club and the Springtown Chamber of Commerce.

Cross Timbers Golf Course offers exciting challenge
Wide open spaces await golfers at Cross Timbers Golf Course.
One of the DFW Metroplex’s premier public golf courses is located just outside of Azle. Cross Timbers Golf Course opened in 1995 and has become renowned for its hilly topography and excellent conditioning. The Jeffery Brauer design stretches to 6,734 yards from the back tees. Large, quick greens with Champion Bermuda grass provide a short-game test for golfers of all skill levels. There are four sets of tees, providing playability for beginners, experts and those in between. There’s also a wide variety of holes, from risk-reward par5s to long and demanding par-3s.
There’s great value to be found at Cross Timbers. Players can pay $38 to play on weekday mornings and $35 to play in the afternoons – including a cart. Weekend and holiday tee times are $47 in the morning and $42 in the evening. The PGA-certified staff is led by General Manager/Director of Golf Keith Harris. The all-day celebration on the town square provides live entertainment, vendors, food and beverages, and a 5K Fun Run. The event is held the second Saturday in December. CHrisTMas Parade and Tree ligHTing In December of 2019, Springtown held its inaugural Christmas parade along with its annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree. The city plans to continue this new tradition each year on the first Sunday in December. Wild WesT fesTival On the third Saturday in September, the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce holds Springtown’s largest event. The all-day festival includes a parade, BBQ cook-off, live entertainment, vendors, a children’s area, and a rodeo show featuring bull riding. suMMerfesT on THe sQuare This event is held by merchants each year on the square. It features vendors, live entertainment, activities for kids, disc golf demonstrations, and a car and motorcycle show. Summerfest takes place on the first Saturday of June. 18

Springtown Area chamber of commerce
Chamber of Commerce helps boost community The Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce understands that developing strong, meaningful relationships with business owners and community members is the key to creating a thriving town. That’s why the Chamber, under the leadership of Director Amy Walker, hosts several events throughout the year to foster those relationships. The third Saturday in September is the usual date for the Wild West Festival, which begins with a parade and ends with a thrilling bull-riding competi-
tion. There’s also live music under the Square’s Tabernacle, children’s activities, arts and crafts booths, puppet shows, rides and a IBCA-sanctioned barbecue cookoff that’s sure to knock your socks off. Some vendors have maintained a spot at the festival for over 20 years, which just goes to show how ingrained the Chamber has become in the community. The annual Clay Shoot in April also offers camaraderie and competition. Then there’s the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in August, which recognizes the
outstanding educators in Springtown ISD, and the All-American Bike Rally in June, which is open to bikers of all abilities. These events help raise money for chamber operations and fund scholarships for local students. The fourth Thursday of most months is set aside for a catered member luncheon, which gives members an oppor-

tunity to hear speakers with years of expertise and network with others in the community. Area vocational students are also honored at the luncheons. The Chamber also hosts an annual awards banquet that recognizes the stars of Springtown. At Christmas, the Chamber puts on an angel tree program that collects gifts for young and old alike. The gifts are hand-delivered to ensure that all have a happy holiday season. Walker and Administrative Assistant Marcia Garcia are part of a team that includes a 20-member board of directors. Springtown Parks & recreation Springtown’s 33-acre park, with an entrance just off the town square, is one of Springtown’s scenic treasures and was built in 2005. Besides plenty of grass and mature trees, it boasts a 5,000 square foot pavilion, soccer and baseball fields, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, a skate park, playground equipment, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a walking/jogging trail that winds through the park. Springtown Legends Museum The City of Springtown takes pride in its Legends Museum, located in the cheery yellow house at 839 North Main Street. The historical museum, which had a grand re-opening in April of last year, hosts rooms with a variety of memorabilia including area fossils, farm tools, World War II items, arrowheads, and various local pieces and artifacts. The museum also offers rotating exhibits, special memorials, and events such as the Dino Dig for children in September. On display in time for Independence Day is a veteran’s memorial on the lawn which includes an Honor Wall listing the names of local veterans. reno seeks to preserve green spaces If you love rural, chances are, you’ll fall in love with Reno. The acres of mature trees and lush grass. Horses and cows contentedly snacking the days away. An exciting glimpse, every now and then, of an exotic llama or alpaca. Businesses are few, and that’s just how the residents like it. A recently-imposed one-acre minimum lot size for new residential buildings is aimed at preserving the wide-open spaces and green fields of Reno. A part of the Springtown ISD, the town has a soft spot for its own Reno Elementary School, home of the Rockets.

Civic Clubs azle lions Club www.facebook.com/azlelionsclub The Azle Lions Club, 412 Commerce St., was chartered in 2001. They are active in the community with a backpack program that aids Azle youth. An Angel Tree project is popular and covers Azle. The club has an eyeglasses drive for youth. The Azle organization also conducts an electronics collection day.
