Departmental Honors English These seniors have completed a minimum of four English courses and earned an “A” in each course. English honorees are wearing a solid white cord.
Business & Marketing These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing solid black cords. To achieve this honor they completed the program and maintained an “A” in the course.
Math These seniors have completed a minimum of four Math courses during high school and earned a GPA value of “A” in each course. Math honorees are wearing a solid gold cord.
Foreign Language These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing red, white and royal blue cords. To achieve this honor they maintained an “A” in all levels of the language offered.
Science These seniors have completed a minimum of four Science courses and maintained a GPA value of an “A” in each course. Science honorees are wearing a solid bronze cord. Social Studies These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing royal blue, royal blue and white cord. To achieve this honor they maintained a GPA value of an “A” in a minimum of four (4) Social Studies courses. Fine Arts These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing solid pink cords. To achieve this honor they maintained an “A” in a minimum of four fine arts courses.
Health & Physical Education These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing solid silver cords. To achieve this honor they maintained an “A” in a minimum of four health & physical education, personal fitness or athletic training courses. Band, Music (Choral) and Theater Arts For outstanding contributions to Theatre Arts, these students have earned a minimum of 20 points equivalent to 10 hours per point, working on shows in Theatre Arts programs. They will be wearing blue and gold cords at graduation signifying induction to the International Thespian Society. Honor Thespians have earned more than 100 points or more than 1,000 hours in four years in Theater Arts.
Family & Consumer Science These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing braided red and white cords. To achieve this honor they maintained a 3.5 minimum GPA in the completer subject; they were enrolled in the program completer and /or an internship; they obtained the industry credential. Agricultural Education These seniors are distinguished among their classmates by wearing solid forest green cords. To achieve this honor they maintained a 3.0 GPA in minimum of three consecutive years of agriculture courses. Health & Medical Sciences These seniors have taken the three Health and Medical Sciences courses or two Pharmacy Technician courses and earned a GPA minimum of 3.5 in the courses. They were absent less than 10 days in each course and passed the industry test. These honorees are recognized with a red, red, and white cord. Trade & Industry Education These seniors completed the departmental program and earned a GPA minimum of 3.5 in the completed program. These honorees are recognized with a black, black and gold cord and/or a pewter medallion.
Organizational Recognition FFA These seniors have distinguished themselves during the past four years in FFA. They will be wearing solid forest green cords for graduation Southwest Virginia Governor’s School Seniors who attend the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School are wearing gold cords or recognize their achievements. The National Honor Society The senior class has many National Honor Society members. National Honor Society
members are distinguished among their classmates by wearing blue and white stoles with The National Honor Society Emblem. These students have achieved a GPA of 3.6 or above, were recommended by faculty members and are active participants in community service and volunteer organizations. STEM Academy Engineering Students will receive a pewter medallion indicating their achievements. Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow Students will receive blue and teal cords in-
dicating their achievement. National Technical Honor Society These seniors will receive purple and silver cords indicating their achievements. Students must attain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (unweighted), and be enrolled in a career/technical education program or major. Color Guard Award Students will receive a Color Guard pin indicating their achievement.
Honor Graduates Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 3.6 to 3.79. Students will receive a BLUE tassel and medallion indicating their achievement.
High Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “High Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 3.8 to 3.99. Students will receive a SILVER tassel and medallion indicating their achievement.
Highest Honors Distinction To graduate with the distinction of “Highest Honors” a student must have achieved a GPA of 4.0 or above. Students will receive a GOLD tassel and MEDALLION indicating their achievement.

Virginia Dept. of Education Diploma Seals The Governor’s Seal The Governor’s Seal shall be awarded to students who complete the requirements for an Advanced Studies Diploma with an average grade of “B” or better, and successfully complete college-level coursework that will earn the student at least nine transferable college credits in Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge or dual enrollment courses.
The Board of Education Seal The Board of Education Seal shall be awarded to students who complete the requirements for a Standard Diploma or Advanced Studies Diploma with an average grade of “A.”
The Career and Technical Education Seal Career and Technical Education Seal shall be awarded to students who: (1) earn a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma and complete a prescribed sequence of courses in a career and technical education concentration or specialization that they choose and maintain a “B” or better average in those courses; or (2) pass an examination or an occupational competency assessment in a career and technical education concentration or specialization that confers a certification or occupational competency credential from a recognized industry, trade or professional association; or (3) acquire a professional license in that career and technical education field from the commonwealth of Virginia. The Board of Education shall approve all professional licenses and examinations used to satisfy these requirements.
The Excellence in Civics Education Seal The Advanced Mathematics and Technology Seal Advanced Mathematics and Technology Seal shall be awarded to students who earn either a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma, and: (1) satisfy all of the mathematics requirement for the Advanced Studies Diploma (four units of credit, including Algebra II; two verified units of credit) with a “B” average or better; and (2) either (a) pass an examination in a career and technical education field that confers certification from a recognized industry, trade or professional association; (b) acquire a professional license in a career and technical education field from the commonwealth of Virginia; or (c) pass an examination approved by the board that confers college-level credit in a technology or computer science area. The Board of Education shall approve all professional licenses and examinations used to satisfy these requirements.
The Governor’s STEM Academy Seal The Governor’s STEM Academy Seal shall be awarded to students who maintain a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average and recommendation from the Academy program area teacher and successfully complete the necessary dual enrollment placement test; complete dual enrollment credit courses and earn a “C” or better in the course; achieve passing scores on the highest level attained on the English and mathematics Standards of Learning tests; complete courses within a specific pathway in the STEM Engineering and Technology, Architecture and Construction, and Production Career Clusters; achieve one or more of an industry certification, at least nine transferable college credits or an associate degree; and complete school/community service and a Senior Project, and adhere to the student code of conduct and attendance policies.
Excellence in Civics Education Seal shall be awarded to students who earn either a Modified Standard, Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma; and (1) complete Virginia and United States history and Virginia and United States government courses with a grade of “B” or higher; (2) have good attendance and no disciplinary infractions as determined by local school board policies; and (3) complete 50 hours of voluntary participation in community service or extracurricular activities. Activities that would satisfy the requirements of clause (3) of this subdivision include (a) volunteering for a charitable or religious organization that provides services to the poor, sick or less fortunate; (b) participating in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or similar youth organizations; (c) participating in JROTC; (d) participating in political campaigns or government internships or Boys State, Girls State or Model General Assembly; or (e) participating in school-sponsored extracurricular activities that have a civics focus. Any student who enlists in the United States military prior to graduation will be deemed to have met this community service requirement.
The Seal of Biliteracy The Seal of Biliteracy shall be awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one other language, and meet additional criteria established by the Board of Education – foreign language means a language other than English, and includes American Sign Language; who earn a Board of Education-approved diploma; pass all required End-of-Course Assessments in English reading and writing at the proficient or higher level; and be proficient at he intermediate-mid level or higher in one or more languages other than English, as demonstrated through an assessment from a list to be approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Most Valuable Cougar Nominees Alaina Akers is the daughter of Anthony and Jody Akers. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Alaina serves as the senior class president. She is a fouryear member of the varsity basketball team receiving honorable mention in the River Ridge District. She is an active volunteer with the City of Refuge, Alaina Akers Pulaski, City of Refuge, Jamaica, as well as Bright Futures Atlanta and the “Renew the New” River Clean-up. She is a DAR Good Citizen nominee, the PCHS female B’nai B’rith nominee and is this year’s homecoming queen. She attends Northstar Church. In the fall, Alaina will be attending New River Community College and plans to pursue a career in the medical field. Rachel Bird is the daughter of Dennis and Shelley Bird. She is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and serves as president. She is recognized on NRCC’s President’s List and is a DAR Good Citizen award nominee. Rachel is a four-year PCHS football and basketball cheerleader serving as captain and co-captain since her tenth grade. She Rachel Bird is a strong supporter of PCHS sporting events and activities and was voted Duchess of Homecoming Court. She serves the community by volunteering and participating in the Lew Gale Stroke Group, Relay for Life events, Count Pulaski Day, Pumpkin Patch events and tutoring others. Rachel has been a member of HOSA, FFA, Caving Club and Young Life. She co-organized the new club, Students vs. Cancer for PCHS this year. She is a member of Dublin United Methodist Church and has assisted with children’s activities, vacation bible school, youth events and attended a mission trip to a Native American reservation in South Dakota. Rachel will attend Radford University in the fall where she has been accepted into the Honors College. She plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Allied Health Sciences and later attend graduate school to become a Physician’s Assistant. Tristan Bowden is the son of Jeff and Michelle Bowden. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. He participates in track and football. He serves as captain of the track throwing team and came in first place in the region in discus this past season. He was also selected first-team all-district player in football. Tristan Bowden This past summer he participated in the Virginia Tech Pathways Scholar summer program. Tristan plans to attend New River Community College in the fall and then transfer to Virginia Tech to study engineering.
Gage Mannon is the son of Tim and Melinda Mannon. He is an active participant in multiple sports. He ran track during the 10th-grade year and played basketball during the ninth, 11th and 12th grades. He is a decorated athlete in football. Gage has held a starting position with the varsity football team Gage Mannon since 10th grade. He also received numerous football awards including for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, River Ridge District 1st Team All-District, 4D AllRegion 1st Team Defense and Player of the Year and for 2019 1st Team All Timesland. VHSL All-Star game invitation and defensive starter. He was named Senior Student of the Month. Gage is a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. In the fall, Gage will attend West Virginia State University where he earned a football scholarship and will study education fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing football at the collegiate level. Luke Russell is the son of Dean and Gina Russell. He is a member of the National Honor Society and served as a graduation marshal. Luke is a fouryear participant in basketball and football including being a senior captain of the football team. This year in football he received honorable mention River Luke Russell Ridge District, and 2nd team All-Region in football. He participated in track for three years and made the baseball team as a senior. He is a member of Pulaski Church of God and volunteered with the City of Refuge, Atlanta and Operation Christmas Child. Luke plans to attend New River Community College in the fall.
Evan Winesett is the son of Brad and Martha Winesett. He participates in both indoor and outdoor track and played football for two years. He has served as class president, a student council member and Superintendent’s Advisory Council member. He was a Boys State representative this past Evan Winesett summer. Evan represented PCHS in the Governor’s Economics Challenge in 2019 where he and his team won their region. He is a member of DECA and placed second in the Principles of Finance competition at Roanoke College last fall. He volunteers at Community Table, Radford Clothes Closet and the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread. Evan participates in missions trips with Passport Camps. He plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall and major in accounting.
