Class of 2023
![]()
We grew up with “2023” engraved in our minds. In kindergarten we were all thinking “That’s so far away!”
Thinking back, our parents always told us “Stop wishing time away” and “Goodness, I wish you would just stay little forever.” We thought they were crazy but now here we are with those same thoughts in mind and wishing for that time back. It’s funny how that works, isn’t it?
Throughout these last 14 years we’ve accomplished a lot, from getting that first A on a test, or maybe getting your first B, to our first heartbreak, or getting our first job.
We’ve had so many firsts, and have so many more ahead of us, but we’ve also had many lasts and didn’t even realize it. We played kickball outside at C.W.C. or John Adair. We had our last “Fun Friday,” we attended our last pep rally, and competed in our last sporting events.
Some of us had to say goodbye to that childhood best friend because they moved away, or maybe we said hello to a new best friend who was having a hard time trying to find a place to fit in. Somewhere between then and now we grew up, we’re not the little bright-eyed kindergartners that walked through the big doors excited or maybe even scared of what was to come.
Although we still may be scared, it’s no longer who we were going to sit with during lunch, or who we were going to swing by outside, it’s now shifted towards what are we going to do with our lives and are we making the right choices?
School has been the only thing we’ve known, our schedules have revolved around the 7 hours a day we’ve spent in various classrooms learning new things.
Although the excitement of freshman year was downed by Covid, sophomore year came, and many of us chose to stay home and battle it out with online school. This consisted of making group chats to get the answers for the day’s math assignment and using Socratic on that week’s odysseyware assignments, however staying home meant that we didn’t have to walk half a mile in a single-file line to the football field during a fake fire in the literal snow, or sitting under a table protecting ourselves from the tornado that never came. Then, junior year rolled around. We fought to learn and struggled to figure out what we wanted to do when we graduated. However, for most of us, our junior and sophomore years were a blur. Now senior year has come to an end, and we’ve realized how fast a school year goes by. After 14 years of our lives, here we are, saying goodbye. We’ve had so many firsts together and now we’ve had our last, it’s sad to say but this could be the last time some of us will see each other. We hope each and every one of us has a successful future, and with that being said, it’s now time for us to take life into our own hands. Go do big things, Class of ‘23!
