Academic Concentrations ANIMAL SCIENCE | THE ARTS GLOBAL STUDIES | STEM

Foxcroft School’s academic curriculum was designed to provide a wide array of course options in core liberal arts subjects — English, History, World Languages, Mathematics, Science, and the Arts — that students may take to fulfill the credit requirements for graduation. For those who want an extra challenge, Foxcroft’s Academic Concentrations program allows students to focus their studies in one of several specific areas above and beyond the graduation requirements, providing the opportunity to learn and develop their passions outside of the traditional classroom experience. The Academic Concentrations that students can choose from include:

Animal Science

The Arts

Global Studies

STEM

Students who successfully complete the requirements for an Academic Concentration are honored with special designations on their diploma upon graduation.

Students who are not pursuing an Academic Concentration may still enjoy the various opportunities of the program, including individual classes (with the Academic Dean’s approval), internships, community service, and in some cases, independent research/capstone projects.

How it Works ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS A student may apply to participate in any of the Academic Concentrations programs in the spring of her first year at Foxcroft, usually freshman year. Continued eligibility is reviewed annually. To be eligible, a student must: • Have a proven record of motivation and achievement • Demonstrate competency in the Concentration Requirements to earn the Academic Concentration diploma designation vary from discipline to discipline but generally include the following: • Rigorous coursework at a high level of achievement • Internships each year that a student is enrolled in the program • Annual commitment to community service in the concentration field • Independent study and/or a capstone project In some instances, a student who enters Foxcroft after her freshman year may be eligible to transfer courses, internships, and community service from another school in order to meet the requirements. The final approval for all transfer credits rests with the department chair and Academic Dean.

PROGRESS AND SUPPORT In order to nurture our students’ learning experience, each student will have the support of: • A Concentration Mentor Each student will choose a faculty member who will be responsible for guiding the student through the three-year program and tracking her progress towards meeting the Concentration requirements. • A Concentration Committee Comprised of the Concentration Mentor along with two additional faculty members, a student’s Concentration Committee provides support in reviewing project proposals and a capstone presentation. • Internships and Community Service All students in an Academic Concentration will have access to a variety of internships and community service opportunities to enhance their learning through a hands-on, experiential approach.
