Creating New Stories The Campaign for a New Library in Silverdale
2/12/2021
A New Story for Silverdale For over three decades, Central Kitsap has needed a new library. Since then, Silverdale has flourished from a sleepy, mostly rural area to a thriving regional marketplace.
Now, this long held dream is close to becoming a reality. In the fall of 2018, Kitsap Regional Library launched a partnership with the Central Kitsap School District to relocate the library in Silverdale to the south end of the Central Kitsap High School campus. With a high school and middle school, multiple sports fields
and tennis courts, a 900-seat auditorium and a family-friendly walking trail, the campus is expertly focused on enriching our kids. With a new public library, this campus will be an invaluable place for the whole community.
Overlooking Dye’s Inlet and Mount Rainier, and more than double the current
library’s size, the new library becomes the “front porch” of the campus. And with dedicated space for children, tweens and teens and community meeting and study rooms, it will dramatically improve the experience of visiting patrons.
Patrons will enjoy increased access to computers and more books, music and movies and much needed parking.
Through the generosity of our donors, we have raised 84 percent of our
5.5 million dollar goal and we are now in our fundraising campaign’s final
phase, the Community Campaign for a New Library in Silverdale. To kick off the Community Campaign, the Friends of the Silverdale Library raised $100,000
toward the campaign and have challenged the community to match their gift. Kitsap Regional Library and Kitsap Regional Library Foundation are proud to serve the community, especially the hundreds of students on the campus, with this inspiring and impactful investment in the community’s future.

Common Questions When will the new library be open? Currently, the new library is scheduled to open in late fall of 2021. Unexpected changes to the construction timeline could affect this date.
Will this library replace the school’s library? No, they are already doing outstanding work! The Central Kitsap School District will continue to provide library services specific to their students’ needs. While also serving the broader Kitsap community,
Kitsap Regional Library will support the school’s efforts by offering students a place to go after school and additional homework support and resources.
What will happen to the current library building and the property on Bucklin Hill Road? Owned by Kitsap Regional Library, the current building and the Bucklin Hill Road site will be sold at fair
market value. While most of the new library is funded by donor contributions through the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation and the Friends of the Silverdale Library, profits from these sales have been factored into the funding needed to build the library.
