Impact Report Letter March 23, 2020 Dear Library Supporter, As a donor, you are a vital and valued member of the Library family and your generosity has a profound impact on the patrons we serve. Because of your support, Kitsap Regional Library is able to expand services and programming year after year and engage our community in new and exciting ways. Last year, more than 87,000 community members attended library programs, our cardholders borrowed more than 2.3 million items and our Home Delivery team made 2,665 home visits. Your gifts make these accomplishments possible, plus so much more. You create opportunities for our youth to excel in reading, ensuring they develop a life-long love of learning. You empower our teens to explore new ideas and learn first-hand about topics they find interesting, topics that can lead to future educational and workforce opportunities. You help us engage in conversations that lead to better understanding and compassion; and often new friendships. Thank you for investing in our community, helping each of us to dream more, learn more, do more and be more. With gratitude,

STEM MEGAN BURTON, STEM AND LEARNING SUPERVISOR: “STEM is more than science, technology, engineering and math, it is about building the skills it takes to be successful in 21st Century jobs.” Beginning in 2013, Kitsap Regional Library took steps toward becoming a local leader in informal STEM education. At Kitsap Regional Library, we provide interest-based, community-led, informal STEM learning opportunities through a variety of modes: through public programs facilitated by librarians, in clubs or classrooms at all of the Kitsap-area school districts and through intentional outreach to local service organizations to meet people where they are in our community. One of the best illustrations of how we are applying our work in collective impact is during Camp Create. In partnership with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, US Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport, SEA Discovery Center, Puget Sound Navy Museum, USS Turner Joy and U.S. Naval Undersea Museum we co-design and implement a summer camp that features exciting STEM activities for tweens. Campers participate in various STEM activities, librarians act as the social glue to connect the tweens to what they’re learning and to each other while community partners facilitate engaging, hands-on STEM activities.
Libraries play an important role in facilitating learning environments outside of the classroom, but we couldn’t do it without you. Camp Create is an example of how your support helps youth in our community connect their interests to career pathways. Thank you!

Creating New Stories EACH OF US HAS A LIBRARY STORY, SOME WAY OUR LIVES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED, CONNECTED OR ENRICHED. More than 30 years ago, the need for a new, expanded library in Silverdale was identified. Since then, it is estimated the population in Central Kitsap has tripled, while the community has transformed into a thriving hub for Kitsap. Operating out of very limited space, Kitsap Regional Library has reached the limit of possibilities in the current Silverdale location. In order to meet the ever-growing community needs, it is time to write a new story by building a new library in Silverdale. In 2018, Kitsap Regional Library and Central Kitsap School District joined in partnership, creating a new story for Silverdale with the renovation of an existing building on the Central Kitsap High School campus. This new story includes exciting chapters such as: more than doubling the size of the library, dedicated space for children and teens, indoor and outdoor space for programming, meeting rooms available to the public at no charge and much needed additional parking.
“We know that this community has been waiting for a new library for generations. This will set a new standard in Kitsap County for what a library can be. Jill Jean, Library Director

Legacy Giving One of the most powerful ways to invest in the future of your community is to give back through your estate. Leave 10 Kitsap is a movement to educate and inspire people in our community to leave at least 10% of their estates to nonprofits they care about. A Transfer of Wealth study completed in 2018 estimated the net worth of households in the Kitsap area to be $93.6 billion and that approximately $12 billion of those assets will be transferred between generations in the next 10 years. If everyone in Kitsap leaves just 10% of that $12 billion, it would provide local nonprofits an additional $1.2 billion to support their amazing work over the next 10 years. Imagine… your planned gift to Kitsap Regional Library could help:
► Fund an endowment to provide annual operating and programming dollars forever.
► Fund the purchase or construction of a new Library. ► Provide a revenue cushion during hard economic times. ► Sustain programs into the future and allow for the launch of new major initiatives.
