Discover the legendary Mississippi as we explore the origins of jazz, Civil War history, and delectable cuisine. Our resident musicians and experts connect each day “rolling on the river” with the historic towns and epic shore excursions along the way. Itinerary
Day 1-2. Depart UK > Memphis
Fly from UK to Memphis where you transfer to your hotel for a complimentary overnight stay. The following morning embark your magnificent American Cruise Lines paddlewheeler river cruise ship for a sevennight Mississippi cruise to New Orleans.
Day 3. Cruising the Mississippi River
Bask in the warmth of the Mississippi River sun as we cruise from Memphis to Vicksburg. Relax in one of the many spacious lounges or enjoy a gentle breeze on the sun deck. There are a variety of activities scheduled on board when the ship is underway, which vary depending on the itinerary and scheduled date. Enjoy destination-focused enrichment programs with special guest speakers who present topics related to the region and ports of call, including Art Classes, Cooking Demonstrations, Mixology, Trivia, Game Shows, and more.
Day 4. Vicksburg
The city of Vicksburg served as a pivotal turning point during the American Civil War. An informative historian will leads you through the National Military Park, commemorating the campaign, siege, and defense of Vicksburg. The expert guides and park rangers will take you to battlefields, the USS Cairo gunboat and the most significant historic places.Also on offer are excursions to the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum, the Old Depot Museum or the Old Courthouse Museum.
Day 5. Natchez
Settled in 1716, Natchez is rich in history and southern hospitality. Enjoy a guided exploration of this fascinating city which has retained its antebellum charm since its surrender during the Civil War. Visit Frogmore, a historic cotton plantation still in use today. Alternatively join an excursion to the Longwood mansion or Monmouth Historic inn & Gardens.
French Quarter
Day 6. St. Francisville
This southern town charms with simple pleasures and unique treasures. Located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River, St, Francisville has been described as one of the most beautiful small towns in America. Take a stroll through its historic centre where two centuries of architecture and lifestyle are on display. Enjoy free time here or take an included visit to the Greenwood Estate, Rosedown & Garden, the Myrtles Plantation or the Audubon Historic site.
Day 7. Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge features all the history and wonder you would expect in a state capitol, but with an added down-home flavour that makes it truly unique. You local expert guide will take you on a tour of the cities most famous attractions including the old and new state capitols and the interactive Louisiana State Museum.
Day 8. Houmas House or Oak Alley
Houmas House and Gardens is a historic plantation complex established in the late 1700s, with the main house completed in 1840. Once the home of a wealthy sugar baron, this “Sugar Palace” features 16 rooms filled with period antiques and Louisiana artwork. Alternatively you can visit the impressive Oak Alley Plantation with it’s stunning tree lined drive, and immerse yourself in its rich history and the beauty of the surrounding gardens
Day 9-10. New Orleans > Arrive UK
Today disembark the incredible paddlewheeler river cruise ship and transfer to the airport for your overnight flight home.
