We’ve spent the last year getting our ships ready to sail again and we are all excited for you to see the changes.

You can get a preview of what to expect on board your ship in this guide, and some help to make the most of your cruise with us.

We’ve also included some useful information on new procedures in line with government guidance, to help keep you feeling safe and comfortable as you embark on your voyage.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME As you know, travelling is a little different at the moment to the way it was before. The purpose of the next few pages is to tell you everything you need to know and what you need to do before you leave home.

Complete your pre-departure health questionnaire We require all guests to complete a pre-departure health questionnaire which you will soon receive via email. Please send this back to us no later than one week before you travel. If you haven’t already told us about anyone in your booking who is classed as clinically vulnerable, please call us on 0800 0355 145 in advance of completing your questionnaire.

Please check your travel insurance Before embarking on a Fred. Olsen cruise, please make sure that all guests on your booking have a comprehensive cruise insurance policy in place, with any pre-existing medical conditions declared.

The policy must also cover repatriation, including airlift at sea.

In addition, your policy must also feature Covid-19 specific cover. This needs to include both pre-departure and post-departure cover to ensure you are protected in case you test positive for Covid-19 during your sailing, have to disembark the cruise for medical treatment, or have to travel back home.

Arrive at the port at your allocated time We are staggering all of our guests’ arrival times to minimise the number of people in the cruise terminal at once, helping to keep you, our crew and the rest of our guests safe.

We will allocate you with a specific check-in slot and your luggage labels will be colour coordinated to your time. To avoid being asked to return later on, please be sure to arrive within your allocated time slot. For more information on our updated arrivals process, please see the ‘Arriving in Liverpool’ section of this onboard guide.

Bring confirmation of your vaccinations with you The safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew is always our utmost priority. We have been monitoring national and international scientific research closely and it’s become clear that those who are fully vaccinated are much less likely to spread Covid-19. As a result, all guests will be required to be fully vaccinated before boarding. This means both doses of your vaccine are required for travel and you must have received your second dose at least ten days before departure.

Please ensure you bring proof of your vaccination status, which you can obtain via the NHS app (please note this is a different app to the NHS Covid-19 app), or by showing a downloaded or printed copy of your vaccination status; available by calling 119.

Please note that printed copies of vaccination status can take up to seven working days to receive.

For residents of Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland, please check with your regional health authority or government website for details on how to obtain your vaccination status.

Keep your Covid-19 testing up to date As part of the government guidelines for the cruise industry, we will be testing all guests before embarking the ship. If your test returns a positive result, you will not be able to board the ship. You will then need to make your way home in a Covid-19 safe manner and our team will contact you within a few days to let you know how to rearrange your cruise.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME

Please take Covid-19 lateral flow tests twice a week in the lead up to your cruise; just as the government recommends we do in our daily lives. This way you can be more confident that you are safe to travel.

Download our app Download our helpful app to your smartphone or tablet before your cruise (and bring it with you). Once you have logged in you will find lots of useful information about what is happening on board during your cruise.

Remember your passport All guests (including those sailing around the UK and on mini-cruises) need to have an undamaged passport with at least six months’ validity from the date of return.

Let us know if you feel unwell If, in the three days prior to your cruise, you experience any symptoms of Norovirus (diarrhoea or vomiting), or Influenza (fever or feverishness, cough, runny nose or sore throat), please contact our team on 0800 0355 145 and they will help you rearrange your cruise.

When packing your bags...

Although cruising does mean you can bring whatever you need with you, unfortunately you can’t quite bring the kitchen sink. For the comfort and safety of our passengers and crew, there are some restrictions on what you can bring with you. This includes alcohol and some electrical appliances, such as kettles and irons. Let us know if you require assistance Please check that all guests in your booking can use a stepped gangway or stairs, and move around the vessel safely. If anyone in your party uses mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and scooters, let us know as soon as possible as there is a limited number we are permitted to carry on board.

Allergies and any dietary requirements Our on board chefs aim to cater for everyone. Just make sure to let us know of any allergies or dietary requirements in advance of your cruise via our Guest Services department on 0800 0355 145. Guests with food allergies or intolerances will also have the opportunity to speak to the Maître d’ or Executive Chef.

Prescription medication If you are taking any prescription medication, we recommend you bring double the amount needed for the duration of your cruise, just as a precautionary measure.

Please also bring a print out of your medical summary and any recent test results, (easily obtained from your GP Surgery) this will assist our medical team should you become unwell on board for any reason.

ARRIVING IN LIVERPOOL

As we restart cruising, we’ve made some changes to our check-in procedures to help keep everyone safe.

Please arrive at your allocated time Your cruise ticket includes a web link that will provide you with details of your allocated arrival window, to help steady the flow of guests checking in for a smooth and safe embarkation. We kindly ask that you only arrive within your dedicated arrival window; if you arrive early we will ask that you come back again during the time specified for your arrival. If you get delayed for any reason and miss your arrival window, our check-in will be open for late arrivals from 15.45hrs.

Please travel directly to the ACC Exhibition Centre, rather than travelling to the cruise terminal.

ARRIVING IN LIVERPOOL

Arriving by your own car If you are arriving by your own car, please follow signs for the ACC Exhibition Centre Kings Dock car park. You will be directed to where to park your car. Your luggage will be collected at this point and delivered straight to your cabin. From here there is then just a short walk to the check-in area in the ACC Exhibition Centre.

Arriving by other transport If you are not arriving in your own car, please head directly for the ACC Exhibition Centre drop off area where you will be directed by our team to the arrival area, which is a short walk away.

ARRIVING IN LIVERPOOL

Testing Upon arrival at the Exhibition Centre, you will be greeted by a member of our team who will ask you to complete a health declaration and present confirmation of your vaccination status (please see the ‘Before you leave home’ section for more details).

You will then be guided to our lateral flow testing stations where you will be asked to complete a Covid-19 test with our team’s guidance, and also have your temperature taken.

You’ll then need to wait in a socially-distanced waiting area for a short period until your test results are ready.

Following confirmation of a negative test result, you will be directed to one of our dedicated shuttle buses, which will take you the short distance to the cruise terminal for check-in.

If your test returns a positive result, you will not be able to board the ship. You will then need to make your way home in a Covid-19 safe manner and our team will contact you within a few days to let you know how to rearrange your cruise.

Checking in At check-in, you will be asked to present your passport. You will also need to register a credit or debit card to open your on board account. To keep things simple, all purchases you make during your cruise will be added to your account.

‘TraceSafe’ bands When you check-in, you will be given one of our new TraceSafe bands to wear.

Please wear your band at all times, so that in the unlikely event that anyone should test positive for Covid-19 during your cruise, our medical team will be able to identify anyone who may have been in contact with them.

Please wear your mask To ensure the highest standards of safety and in keeping with government guidance, please wear a face mask during check-in.

If you are exempt from wearing a face mask, please let us know before your cruise. We will ask to see a letter from your GP at check-in and will then give you with a card to carry with you at all times explaining your exemption.

Before the ship sails A Passenger Muster Drill (safety briefing) will take place on board in a socially distanced manner before the ship sets sail. It is very important that you follow the instructions given to you during this briefing.

You will also see an important safety notice on the back of your cabin door which will tell you where your assembly point is on board.

Please also take the time to watch the important safety video which will be shown on the screens around the ship and inside your cabin.

SAFETY ON BOARD YOUR SHIP We can’t wait to welcome you and want you to feel at home straight away.

As you may know, we have to adhere to some new government health and safety measures to help keep you safe. Here’s everything you need to know about your time on board Borealis.

Space for social distancing This summer, we will initially sail with a reduced capacity on each ship, creating plenty of space to comply with social distancing guidelines.

Your social bubble We know that for many, meeting new people and making new friends is an important part of their cruise. This is why we have introduced ‘social bubbles’ on board. You will have up to five companions with whom you can dine, drink and enjoy our entertainment, should you wish to, for the duration of your cruise. You will not need to socially distance from anyone in your social bubble.

If you are travelling in a group with separate bookings, please let us know and we will do everything we can to ensure you are in the same social bubble.

Guests will need to remain socially distanced from anyone who is not in their social bubble.

Our furniture has been arranged to assist with this, and you will also find helpful signage around the ship to remind you to keep a safe social distance.

Face masks Based on the current government guidelines for the cruise industry, all guests will have to wear a face mask when moving around inside the ship and where social distancing is not possible (we do ask for a mask, rather than a shield or covering). You will not need to wear a mask when you are out on deck or sitting down, for example when you’re enjoying something to eat or a drink in one of our new bars or lounges.

Additional entertainment performances To ensure that as many of our guests who wish to join our entertainment can do so, we will be adding additional performances if required.

You will be seated by our crew to ensure that social distance guidelines are met. You will be able to sit with members of your household, or your social bubble if you wish.

SAFETY ON BOARD YOUR SHIP Seated bar service We will be offering seated service in our bars and lounges, so once you’ve found your ideal place to sit and relax, our friendly crew will be over to take your order.

Shore tours Currently, on sailings with port calls, guests must be part of one of our organised tours in order to disembark. If the guidelines change nearer the time, we will of course let you know.

Other measures we have taken to keep you safe Up to date information throughout your cruise can be found in the Daily Times (which will be delivered to your cabin each day), our app, on your WiFi Portal, on your in-cabin TVs and at Guest Services.

Please refer to your Journey Guide for any destination-specific Covid-19 measures if you are visiting ports of call.

What happens if you fall ill If you feel unwell at any time during your cruise, please stay in your cabin and call our medical team for assistance.

If you test positive for Covid-19, you will be required to self-isolate.

Our medical team are able to identify those who have come into close contact with someone who tests positive for Covid-19 on board. These guests will be notified and asked to quarantine in their cabin.

Our crew will be on hand to ensure all guests are well looked after. We have an extended room service menu, for both food and drink, which can be ordered throughout the day.

YOUR SHIP BOREALIS With just 700 cabins, Borealis is much smaller than most other cruise ships. However, she is large enough for you to find plenty of restaurants, lounges and even a relaxing spa with hydrotherapy pools on board so you can enjoy your well-earned rest.

If you want to enjoy a swim during your break, you will find the all-weather pool under a retractable dome which can be opened when it is sunny and closed when the weather is not being kind.

Borealis, like all Fred. Olsen ships, also has her own elegant design touches which you will see everywhere as you explore.

Even the design and weave of our British-made carpets on board our fleet are chosen personally by Fred. Olsen Jnr. and the placement of the artwork has been meticulously planned by the Olsen family.

DINING OPTIONS With a number of different restaurants on board, you will be spoilt for choice when you sail with us on Borealis.

BOREALIS AND AURORA RESTAURANTS

MAIN DECK 4 / LOUNGE DECK 5 Our beautiful main restaurant has two tiers, Borealis on Deck 4 and Aurora on Deck 5.

Every evening, you can enjoy a delicious five-course à la carte menu, created, prepared and cooked by our team of chefs.

You will be taken care of by our wonderful waiting staff at your own table – which will be allocated to you and your social bubble at the start of the cruise and is yours to use every evening if you wish.

In the evenings, in line with the elegant atmosphere and décor, the dress code is smart casual. During the day, when things need to feel more casual for breakfast and lunch, the restaurant is run a little less formally.

At these times, the seating is open with full waiter service and an à la carte menu.

VASCO LOUNGE DECK 8 Vasco, named after the famous explorer Vasco da Gama who was the first European to reach India by sea, offers a modern take on Indian cuisine.

The menu has been inspired by our chefs from Goa and focuses on the unique culinary traditions of that area; a place where the tastes of Europe first met the tropical warmth and spices of Western India.

Here, you can enjoy delicious seafood, spiced curries and grilled meats, all cooked fresh and to authentic recipes by our Goan chefs.

Vasco is open only in the evenings, and bookable in advance via the Maître d’ or Guest Services.

MAIN DECK 4 Our vibrant Colours and Tastes restaurant offers modern Asian-fusion dishes which are a real talking point.

The décor is colourful, the mood cheerful and the food offers stimulating new taste experiences.

Our specialist chefs will create a selection of dishes to share at your table including spiced grilled meats, seafood, gyozas, dim sum and sushi, as well as classic Chinese and Thai favourites.

Colours and Tastes restaurant is available for dinner in the evenings and bookable in advance with the Maître d’ or Guest Services.

AFTERNOON TEA Each day, complimentary afternoon tea will be served in The View. With sandwiches, scones and cakes, accompanied by fresh tea and coffee.

For something extra special, book ahead for our Premium Afternoon Tea with the Maître d’ or Guest Services.

You’ll enjoy beautiful views from the stylish Crow’s Nest Observatory Lounge, with musical accompaniment from our on board pianist and the careful attention of our crew.

Your choice from a selection of premium teas by Taylors of Harrogate is served, along with elegant finger sandwiches, pastries and warm scones with jam and clotted cream.

The View restaurant is a wonderful treat created to be just right for the relaxing feel you often want from days away and at sea. It is designed to be easy-going: light, open, with beautiful views of the ocean; no formal dress-codes; no set tables; no standing on ceremony.

Instead, delicious breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners are laid out as the most generous buffet and served to you by our crew. You can come and go as you please and eat whatever takes your fancy. And, when you are feeling peckish in the late evenings, you’ll find The View is open for a delicious late night buffet and bedtime snacks.

ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT Whether you prefer filling your time with exciting experiences and physical activity, or would rather do as little as possible, our ships have plenty of activities on offer.

The Auditorium is a small theatre venue which we use for fascinating talks, demonstrations, or even as a cinema during your cruise. There is also the swimming pool, which sits under a retractable dome, making it enjoyable, whatever the weather.
