escape Welcome to the Spring Edition of our Escape Magazine. We hope to bring you some inspiring offers, destinations and holiday options which might be of interest for your next trip away. I had hoped that by now I would be able to go into some detail on what the travel industry looks like after the Brexit deadline of 29th March, but as of writing this with the deadline extended, there is still no clarity in what will or wonâ€™t ultimately happen. However, with assurances that flights will still travel in, out and across the EU zone with no visa restrictions for up to 90 days, hopefully customers are now confident to book their upcoming 2019 & 2020 holidays. There is a lot of doom and gloom around on how Brexit is damaging the country financially so I just wanted to outline how the travel industry and Fred. Olsen Travel Agents have seen 2019 go so far. UK outgoing tourism, ie people travelling out of the UK on holiday, increased by 1% against 2018 in the first two months of 2019 whereas at Fred. Olsen Travel we have seen business grow by 12%. The ocean cruise sector is performing well and accounts to 47% of our overall business in our branches. A real growth market for us and the industry as a whole is river cruising, where our sales so far in 2019 have already surpassed the total levels of 2017 and already half way to the total sales in 2018. Luxury Holidays and Cruises are also hugely in demand with customers wanting the most for their money. Outbound travel to the EU zone has struggled so far in 2019, but hopefully now we have some more clarity about travelling in the EU, this will increase the demand for Europe again. So for the travel sector, business is still growing and for Fred. Olsen Travel our business is booming. This is thanks to you our customers, and I sincerely hope you will continue to trust us with your future travel plans. Also thank you for recommending our experienced staff to friends and relatives. We receive so many recommendations, which for me highlights the trust you have in our knowledge and service.
