Gibraltar

Gibraltar is well known for its iconic rock and the Barbary Macaques that live freely, but it’s not until you actually arrive here that you learn how much more there is to this destination. Those who call it ‘Britain in the Sun’ are not wrong, but there are plenty of Mediterranean influences that make it quite different from a holiday on the mainland.

That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of reassuringly familiar aspects that will be welcomed by British travellers. There’s no language barrier, for a start; your Pound Sterling can make the trip with you and still be useful; and you don’t have to look far to enjoy British cuisine. But you can’t come to this pleasant peninsular and not explore the landmark for which it’s famous - and that means going over, around and through it. Having taken a trip to the top, you can look out towards North Africa, whilst venturing into the heart of the Rock takes you deep into the otherworldly setting of St. Michael’s Cave. Back at street level, there’s VAT-free shopping to enjoy and a culmination of cultural influences to discover.
