VISION & CONCEPT of the FOTOfactory Technical knowledge is a good base but ultimately only a tool used in making a good photograph.

We therefore give special attention to image communication and how to give a visual message more expressiveness. This is a vital aspect of all our photographic courses.

Besides these assignments part of your lessons will include; art history, film techniques, lightroom & photoshop, graphic design, image analysis, camera & lens knowledge, styling and studio.

Five day workshops and intensive courses lasting several weeks cover areas from studio lighting for beginners to digital capture with camera movements for professionals.

The FOTOfactory uses modern teaching methods. We show you various aspects of photography, related to different photographers. All our courses include supervised photography on location in or near Amsterdam. We will provide you with all the necessary technical and compositional information to help you to become confident with your digital or film camera. All the instructors of our courses are professional photographers as well as good trained teachers.

Basic Photography Course & Summer Photography Course ( preparatory process - FASE I) This is the complete course for starting photographers for learning basic photography techniques.

Designed to give you the necessary information and help needed to become confident with your digital or film camera. All aspects of basic photography are covered including technical and compositional know-how and skills. This course is for beginners or photographers who are moving from film to digital.

It aims to demystify your digital camera and the basics Adobe Photoshop by concentrating on practical, real world problems, enabling you to shoot more and worry less. During the course picture taking sessions are included.

The first day you will concentrate on the camera, aiming to give you the confidence that you are getting the most from it. Topics are : Exposure, Iso, depth of field, movement, composition.

Day two you will learn the fundamentals of composition and visual storytelling. You will will be taught how to develop a personal project, how to make best use of instagram and how to create a stopmotion.

During day three, you will work with Photoshop and learn to basics of producing and correct/ manipulate images, working with layers, making selections, adjusting colorbalance, retouching etc.

Pop-art, panning technique, abstract photography, sequences, you will learn it all.

During day four you will start working and shooting a street photography project, it can be photography or film related. All day we will be improving the results, by analyzing and discussing and of course reshooting. The last day you finish your portfolio in post production and present it to the other students and teacher(s).

LOCATION COURSES 2019 Neighbourhood We are located in the heart of Amsterdam. The FOTOfactory lies in the historical center of Amsterdam, approximately 750 meters south of the main transportation hub, Centraal Station, at the original location of the dam in the river Amstel.

All the main attractions are on walking distance, like the Dam Square, the New Church, the Palace, Foam, and Huis Marseille, the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk, van Gogh Museum, but also the famous shopping areas like nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat, Waterlooplein Market and and Nieuwmarket.

Being located just around the corner of the Red Light district brings an extra vibe to the location.
