IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is the world-recognized authoritative international standard and conformity assessment for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies. Currently, it has 53 member countries, including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. All European countries adopt this testing standard.
IEC 61591 is the 'Rangehood performance testing method' specified by IEC. All FOTILE rangehoods' airflow and noise indicators are tested according to this standard (The corresponding noise testing standard is IEC60704)
Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDCM), compared to ordinary motors, has advantages such as high efficiency, good speed regulation performance, low noise, and long lifespan.
Tips
How to compare the airflow of rangehoods from different brands?
Firstly, ascertain the IEC standard and consult sales personnel regarding the product's rated airflow measured under the IEC 61591 international standard. This prevents selection decisions being influenced by non-standardised free airflow values.
Secondly, pay attention to the static pressure value (Pa) in the specifications. Airflow is not the sole measure of performance; higher static pressure translates to greater extraction force. Units rated below 500Pa typically employ weaker AC motors.
Airflow Tips:
Should your selected rangehood lack explicit testing standard references for its airflow rating, the declared figures likely derive from the ‘Free Air Delivery’ (FAD) testing method. This method typically involves measuring the maximum local air velocity at the outlet using an anemometer and performing conversions. However, the testing conditions, point selection, and calculation methods lack standardised protocols. Consequently, the results exhibit low reproducibility and significant deviation, making it difficult to objectively reflect the product's performance in real-world usage scenarios.
IEC 61591 is the globally recognised standard for effectively measuring rangehood performance. All FOTILE rangehoods achieve their rated airflow under this standard, with absolutely no exaggerated claims.
Issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), this standard imposes strict, uniform requirements on testing environments, apparatus, methods, and procedures. For example:
Test Environment: Testing must occur within a standardised laboratory chamber where environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity are precisely controlled.
Test Points: A sufficient number of test points must be collected (e.g., EN 61591:2020 requires a minimum of 25 points) to generate a comprehensive performance curve.
Test Parameters: Performance evaluation encompasses not only airflow rate but also integrates multiple factors including air pressure, efficiency, and noise levels.
