ExploringtheMultifacetedTones ofBlackCulture

The Create and Be Studio in Stroudsburg, PA celebrated 6 years of Black Culture in the Burg (aka Stroudsburg)SaturdayApril26th.Thevenuewasfilled to near capacity with attendees who explored the historyofhiphopthroughaliveinterviewwithspecial guest Floyd Simmons (aka90Degrees)whoisknown for his Big L mural in Harlem andasakeyfigurein streetartandhiphopdesignsinthe1990s.Theevening also presented live performances and visual art along with some tasty victuals provided by Nishi’s Vegan Creations who provided vegan baked goods and pastries Shelleez Delicacies who offered some Caribbeancuisine

Afteraperiodofbeingimmersedbytheofferingsof the venue and the sharing of enchanting conversation they inspired, the co-owner of The Create and Be Studio, SylviaThompson,tookthestagetoinitiatethe evening’s festivities She began by introducing the venue’sco-ownerCourtneyLaurenNatt,whoservedas sound technician for the evening Ms Thompsonthen introduced Associate Professor of Sociology of The Northampton Community College’s Monroe Campus, Andrew McIntosh, who conducted the interview with Mr Simmons(90°)

Theconversationprovedtobeanenrichingonefilled with thoughtful insightsalongwithnumerousamusing and meaningful anecdotes which provided a comprehensive understanding of the musical form of hip hop and all the many genres of the arts that it inspires. The intercourse also explored the nature of artistic expressionandhowaninspirationisconceived and made manifest through the creative process This led to a sense of wonderment for the audience that encouragedthemtofurtherexplorethedeepermeaning of art and the essence of their own individual and collectiveexistence.

Astheinterviewconcluded,Ms Thompsonretookthe stage to share her appreciation to Associate Professor McIntosh and Mr Simmons (90°) for sharing their words with theaudience ShethenintroducedSeththe

Drummer and Michelle Rescigno whose mixture of familiarsongsandlesserknownpiecescreatedagentle sensation among the denizens oftheroom.Theywere followedbysongstressRozsewhowasaccompaniedby GuitaristMaximilly Theircollaborationcreatedamood that was enjoyable and whose selections touched the heartofeachlistener

Maximillyremainedonthestageattheconclusionof Rozse’s set and he entertained the gathering with a mixture of hip hop stylings and guitar riffs. He was followed by Singer-songwriter Bekah Elaine whose brief time on the stagecreatedarichresonatingchord within the souls oftheaudience Shewasfollowedby Mac Vill whose thought-provoking music with powerful messages mesmerized his audience as they traveled through the envisionary transformations his presenceandwordsinspired.

MacVillwasfollowedbyNiaTheSongPoetwhose congenial style and delightful countenance brought a healingsmiletoeveryheartwhoheardher Itwasafter her performance that Ms Thompson returned to the stage to, once again, share her appreciation to the evening’s attendees and to allwhosharedtheirtalents during their performances. She then conveyed some closing thoughts relating to the event’s theme before bringingtheownerofTribeMeditations,Kengela,who providedthegatheringwithameditationtolightentheir paths as they continue the many life journeys they wouldencounterafterbeingtouchedbytheexperiences theyembracedthroughouttheevening.
