2. If you were to be any race in J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe, what would you be? (i.e. elf, dwarf, ent, man, etc.)

Increase communication between officers and MassJCL by sending monthly emails with important reminders and updates.

2. Work with the board to highlight clubs across the state through a club of the month contest similar to NJCL’s but more focused on all aspects of JCL, not just spirit and service.

3. I would go to outside of Fenway Park on October 27, 2004. The Red Sox won the World Series (in St. Lewis) that day for the first time in 86 years. I don’t remember it, but I can imagine how amazing it must’ve felt and how exciting it would’ve been.

My favorite classical author is Sappho because we don’t often hear about female authors. The fact that we only have one complete poem of hers is interesting because it leaves us with a mystery. Her talent was so great that Plato even called her the 10th muse.

2. Being an elf (Quendi) sounds pretty nice since they have cool powers and are practically immortal but if I’m being honest, I’m more of a potterhead than a LOTR fan.

3. Me being the classics nerd I am would want to go to March 15, 44 BC or famously, the Ides of March when Caesar died. I think seeing that famous moment in history in person would be fascinating and I would also get to see what Ancient Rome was like.

Make service more fun and accessible for schools by having service opportunities for each school size, monthly service contests, and seasonal service focus projects.

2. Make spirit more engaging by having a pre-states video contest and an a pre-nationals video contest.

BONUS 1. Catullus 2. Elf 3. I would astral project myself to the time when dinosaurs were alive (apporx. 250-65 million years ago) because I have always been really fascinated by dinosaurs and would love to see them in real life!

Ryan Le Qualifications AKF JCL Secretary 2017 AKF JCL 2nd Vice President 2017 Class Secretary 2015-2018 Congress of Future Technological Leaders 2018 attendee National Honor Society 2017-2018 AKF Student Council 2015-2016 Skills Strong organizational skills, work ethic, and time management (IB full diploma student, student athlete, and employed, whilst maintaining academic prowess, maintaining class rank 1) Plans for Office I want to take detailed, minute by minute, notes of meetings with the help of audio recordings if possible. Additionally, I will include a “highlights” and an “action items” section. I will coordinate with the Technical Coordinator to implement hyperlinks to make navigation through notes easier.

BONUS 1. Vergil 2. I’d say I would be an dwarf. Dwarf technology is too cool not to play around with, better than the magic of elves in my opinion. Ents are too slow and men are too “normal”. Hobbits have a lot of fun though, so being a hobbit is my second choice.

3. I’m a huge FC Barcelona fan, so I’d project myself to Camp Nou to watch the FCB-PSG UCL game, when FCB came back from 4-0 deflect to beat PSG. Otherwise, I would protect myself back to the Trinity Atomic Bomb test to experience the awe of its power.

Lia Van Der Linde

Qualifications BLACC 2nd VP, historian, taken BLACC meeting minutes, 826 Boston (a writing workshop), written multiple articles for BLA classics club newsletter, and a summary for the Forum Factorum Skills Fast typer, very organized, good listener and good writer.

Plans for Office One of my plans for office would be to create a half page summary of key information from meetings and minutes so that fellow officers and others do not need to read so many pages to acquire information.

BONUS 1. I haven’t actually read any classical authors yet, but my dad says Tacitus is really good.

2. I would choose to be an ent because ents usually end up on the good side of conflict, even though they are thought to be the strongest in terms of physical power.

3. If I were to ever astral project myself I would want to travel to the future where we receive proof that another species exists. In addition I would like to meet members of the new civilization and see how they work.

Plans for Office I feel that the treasurer position is not one in need of drastic change.

The position is very specific in its requirements and there is not very much room for any real change. I intend simply to complete all requirements of the job in a timely fashion.

BONUS 1. Homer 2. Ent 3. I would go to 1956 and Witness the first JCL convention. I really want to see if its full of the same fantastic and fun loving people it is today.

Evan Sheridan Qualifications MGJCL Parliamentarian 2017-18 Proposed one state amendment Multiple leadership accolades Skills Experience with the process of creating, proposing, and passing amendments Plans for Office Attempt to promote the growth and development of smaller schools.

BONUS 1. Probably Vergil. The Aeneid is an interesting read for me.

2. I’d be an elf, because they’re the most well-rounded.

3. It would have to be a very crazy situation, preferably involving something defying the rules of human nature and physics. It would be a waste be normal in a dimension with no boundaries.

Elf 3. If I were to astral project myself I would do it during a time of chaos. An out of body experience could create zen and peace of mind. I would probably astral project myself at a place I feel at ease in, which would be on the shores of O’ahi.

Emma Cohen Qualifications AMSAJCL historian 2015-2016, AMSAJCL editor 2016-2017, AMSAJCl co-president 2017-2018 Skills 6 year of photography experience doing senior portraits, family photos, and more. Experienced with photo editing and video editing software such as Final Cut, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, and Lightroom.

Plans for Office Create a network of local historians through a monthly email newsletter with features on the local historians themselves, upcoming deadline reminders, and techniques. In addition, create a series of instructional videos designed especially for physical and digital scrapbook making, video editing, and photography.

BONUS 1. Catullus 2. Elf- they’re mysterious, graceful, magical, and most importantly, aesthetic.

3. I would project myself to anytime before the discovery of electricity to Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand to see the stars without any light pollution. Even the best dark sky reserves don’t compare to what the view must have been like before human interference.

Plans for Office 1) Increase JCLer participation in the FF with pages to showcase JCLers’ talents, as well as perspective articles and interviews 2) Make publications such as the Convention Ear more accessible to JCLers at, and after, convention 3) Interact with as many prospective, current, and past MassJCLers as possible!

BONUS 1. My favorite classical author, while a bit cliché, has to be Vergil, specifically his ‘Aeneid’, which I have read and enjoyed in English, and large sections in Latin. Classical poetry in itself is beautiful, the story is incredible even thousands of years later, and I can relate to his perfectionism.

2. How can I choose? I love hobbits, since I’m all in for a simple, quiet life and second breakfast, but the dwarves also have such a rich culture of creation and camaraderie that I can’t help but admire, and a strength of being that I could only wish to achieve!

3. If I could project myself to anywhere in Classical Greece OR Rome - rubbing shoulders with great writers and philosophers, seeing what are now ruins in their full glory, even witnessing such brutality as the Games - it would honestly be one of the greatest experiences I could ever hope to experience.

Ryan Browne Qualifications I was the BLACC Editor for 2 years. I attended various editor workshops at State and National Conventions.

Skills I have a very strong sense of proper grammar - ask anyone; I’m constantly correcting people. Also, I’m very outgoing, which helps for getting people to write articles.

I’m avid at using Lucidpress, and learning InDesign.

Plans for Office I want to add new kinds of articles to the Forum Factorum. I’d love to have classics-related fiction short stories, interviews, and maybe even comic strips! Also, I want to create a video series about creating the FF. BONUS 1. You’re making me choose? Cicero for orations, Ovid for poetry.

2. Admittedly, I’ve never read the books or seen the movies. But I guess I’d be Golum.

3. I’d project myself to before August 2007 so I could spend my time with my grandpa. I miss him every day.

I plan on communicating more with other chapters to help those who are interested in creating a chapter website.

2. I plan on creating the website from HTML, CSS, and Java Script if I am able to do so, so then I would be able to customize the website without any restrictions.
